If Blaine and Kurt thought a sleepless night with five babies was tough, they were in for some rough nights now Mackenzie was home. They both decided to keep her in their room for the first few nights, in case her monitor happened to go off.
After all six babies were fed, changed and asleep, the adults got ready for bed as well.
"Blaine, what if the monitor goes off in the middle of the night?" Kurt asked worriedly, as he climbed into bed.
"Don't worry." Blaine replied, kissing Kurt on the lips. "If it goes off, we know what to do."
Kurt smiled at his husband. "I'm just worried about the first night with Mackenzie home."
Blaine nodded. "I'm worried too. But let's go to sleep. I'm sure we'll be up soon."
Kurt laughed, kissing Blaine on the cheek and the two of them went to sleep.
The two had just fallen into a dreamless sleep, when they were jolted awake by a loud beeping. Blaine quickly turned on the lamp on his bedside table, as Kurt jumped out of bed and leaned over Mackenzie's bassinet.
"Did she stop breathing again?" Blaine asked quickly, making his way to the other side of the room.
Kurt started checking everything that could possibly be wrong with their daughter. "I don't know." he said in a panic voice.
"Blaine, I don't think she's breathing!" Kurt exclaimed.
Blaine placed his hands on Mackenzie. "Honey, she's fine." reassuring Kurt. "She just moved. That's what made the monitor go off."
Kurt let out a sigh of relief. "Are you sure?"
Blaine nodded. "Yes, she's fine."
Kurt wiped the tears from his eyes and Blaine quickly wrapped him in a protective hug. "It's ok. You don't need to cry."
Kurt shook his head. "I'm just so worried about her."
"I know. So am I." Blaine agreed.
"I'm afraid every time that monitor goes off, she's going to end up back in the hospital and may never leave." Kurt sobbed.
Blaine held Kurt close, as Kurt continued to cry. After a few minutes of silence, he stopped crying.
"Are you ready to go back to bed?" Blaine asked.
Before Kurt could answer, several loud cries came from outside their bedroom door.
Kurt let out a small laugh. "I don't think we're going back to sleep for a while."
Blaine laughed with his husband. "I think you're right."
They both got up and went into the nursery to check on the other babies. Upon stepping into the room, Burt, Carole, and Kate were starting to feed the crying babies. Burt was sitting in one of the rockers feeding Emma when he saw Blaine and Kurt walk in.
"Is everything ok with Mackenzie?" Burt asked.
"Yeah, she just moved which made the monitor go off." Blaine explained.
"But she's ok right? I mean she didn't stop breathing?" he asked, concerned.
Kurt shook his head. "Everything's fine." he reassured his father. "We just need to keep an extra eye on her that's all."
Blaine nodded, agreeing.
"Why don't you two go back sleep." Burt suggested. "I think we've everything under control in here."
Kurt shook his head. "Dad, we can't ask you to do that."
"Why not?" Burt replied.
"Well, for one thing, they're our responsibility and two, there are now six babies with very strong lungs." Kurt exclaimed.
Burt scoffed. "Kurt, I know they're your responsibility. We're just trying to help."
Carole walked over and placed Henry in Kurt's arms. "Why don't you finish feeding him?" she suggested.
Kurt looked at the baby in his arms and back at his step-mother. "Thank you Carole."
She smiled back at him. "Honey, we're just trying to help. Really, we don't mean to step on your toes." Carole admitted.
Kurt sighed. "I'm sorry. Now that we have Mackenzie home-" before he could finish his sentence, they heard the monitor go off again, that Kurt nearly dropped Henry.
Blaine ran down the hallway and burst into their bedroom. He leaned over the bassinet and saw that Mackenzie was still sleeping. Watching when she moved again, somehow the monitor didn't move with her. Blaine adjusted the strap monitor so it wouldn't beep every time she moved.
A few minutes later, Kurt came walking in to the bedroom, still holding Henry.
"Is everything ok?" Kurt asked quietly.
Blaine turned around, seeing his husband standing in the doorway. He walked over to him. "She keeps moving and the strap wasn't secure, that's why the monitor kept going off." he explained. "I adjusted it. The alarm shouldn't go off anymore, unless she really does stop breathing."
Kurt sighed. "I don't think I'm going to be able to get any sleep tonight."
Blaine kissed him on the cheek and looked down at Henry, who was now falling asleep. "Why don't you put him back in the nursery and we can try going back to sleep?"
Kurt shook his head. "I think I'm just going to go sit in one of the rockers for a while."
"Why? Both of our parents and Cooper are here. I mean Cooper might be a heavy sleeper, but I'm sure if we place a screaming baby next to him he'll wake up."
Kurt laughed. "It's not that. It's just...I want to be near them incase they need me. They rely on us for everything."
Blaine smiled at Kurt. "Yes, I know. Whenever you decide to come back, I'll be waiting." Blaine wiggled his eyebrows.
Kurt rolled his eyes as he turned around and went back down the nursery.
Early the next morning, Blaine woke up to loud cries coming from the baby next to him. He quickly got out of bed to attend to her.
"Shh. It's ok Mackenzie. Papa's here." he soothed as he picked her up. "Are you hungry? Let's get you some breakfast." he cooed and walked out of the bedroom.
While Blaine walked down the hall, he peeked in the nursery. He saw Kurt sleeping on one of the rockers while Henry was lying on his chest. Blaine smiled at the sight, not wanting to disturb them.
When Blaine entered the kitchen, he found his dad and brother making dozens of bottles.
"Good morning." Blaine said.
They both quickly turned around.
"Hey little brother." Cooper replied.
"Is everything ok?" Jack asked. "I heard beeping coming from your room several times in the middle of the night. Is Mackenzie all right?"
Blaine sighed. "Yeah, her monitor kept going off every time she moved. But I readjusted her strap so it shouldn't go off like that anymore. Unless she really happens to stop breathing."
Jack and Cooper nodded in their heads.
"Did you guys happen to make any bottles with the lactose free formula?" Blaine asked.
The two older men looked at each other confused. "Ummm."
Blaine rolled his eyes. "Mackenzie is lactose intolerant. She can't have the regular formula the other babies. If she does it makes her stomach upset. We spent so long trying to figure out why she wasn't gaining weight-" he started shouting but got cut off.
"Blaine. Calm down." said Jack, cutting off his son's rant.
Blaine took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. It's just if she eats the regular formula she could get really sick."
Jack nodded. "I understand and I'm sorry."
Cooper nodded. "Yeah, me too. We didn't realize."
"We'll clean out her bottles and make some lactose free formula for her." Jack said.
Blaine smiled as he sat down at the table. "I'm sorry I got upset."
"You don't have to apologize son." said Jack. "We all know you and Kurt have a lot on your plate right now."
Blaine shook his head. "It's not that." he said softly.
"Then what is it?" Cooper asked.
Blaine shook his head again. "Nothing, it's nothing." he stood up and grabbed the bottle from Cooper's hand.
"Blaine that's-" Cooper started, but Blaine wasn't listening. He just walked away.
