Throughout the rest of the summer, many of the friends had come to help with the babies. Having so much more help, Blaine's family went home after the 4th of July weekend. Burt and Carole said their goodbyes at the end of July.
By August Blaine and Kurt decided to look for nannies for when they went back to work.
"Blaine, I don't want to go back to work." Kurt whined.
They were sitting on the couch while Blaine looked up nannies on the computer and Kurt fed Emma.
"Kurt, I know that you don't want to, but we talked about this." Blaine began to explain. "I don't need to go back to recording studio right away and I can put off the music lessons until further notice."
"I know, but I'm going to miss the babies so much." Kurt whined again, looking down at Emma slowly falling asleep.
Blaine kissed Kurt on the cheek. "I know, but you can call I'll take plenty of pictures and so you won't miss anything. I promise."
Kurt smiled. "Have you found anyone yet?" he asked, pointing towards the computer.
Blaine shook his head. "No, not yet. But I remember Lucy mentioned she had some friends that were willing to take care of the babies. She emailed me their names and I already contacted them, explaining our situation."
"Do they know you'll be here the whole time? And Mackenzie is on an apnea monitor?" Kurt asked quickly.
Blaine laughed. "Honey, don't worry. I explained everything in detail. So there is nothing to worry about."
Kurt sighed and looked down again at Emma who had fallen asleep.
"I also thought that we should go through an agency. That's why I'm looking online." Blaine added.
Kurt leaned over Blaine's shoulder and stared at the computer. "Have you found any potential nannies?" he asked.
Blaine continued to look at the website. "A few." he replied. "This one seems like a good one."
Kurt continued to look at the page. He saw the profile of a young woman who had previous experience in childcare along with her picture.
"She seems nice." Kurt admitted.
Blaine nodded. "There's also this one." he said, clicking on another window.
They continued to look at other nanny profiles until a few faint cries were heard coming from the baby monitor.
"We should go see if Sam and Mercedes need help with the other babies." Kurt suggested.
"Yeah." Blaine let out a yawn. "It looks like Emma's already asleep." he pointed out.
Kurt smiled at Emma, sleeping in his arms. "I'll put her in a baby swing and meet you up stairs."
Blaine nodded, standing up and making his way upstairs.
The next couple of weeks Blaine and Kurt were not only busy taking care of six babies, but also interviewing potential nannies.
"How many more do we have to see?" Kurt complained, leaning his head on Blaine's shoulder.
"One more." Blaine replied.
The two had been interviewing nannies all day downstairs, while Sam and Mercedes took care of the kids upstairs and Kurt was getting tired. All he wanted to do was spend time with his kids.
Kurt looked over Blaine's shoulder at the resumes of the women they had already interviewed.
"How many nannies were you thinking of hiring?" Kurt asked.
Blaine shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not sure. Maybe two or three."
"And how much are we going to pay each of them?" Kurt added.
Blaine shrugged his shoulders again. "Ok, maybe I haven't thought all of this through, but we really need to find someone to help take care of the kids while you're at work. I mean, I can't take care of six babies on my own."
Kurt placed a comforting hand on Blaine's knee. "Honey, calm down. I know you need help and that's fine. But maybe we can start out with just one or two." he suggested.
Blaine sighed. "Okay."
Kurt smiled and heard the doorbell ring.
"After this one, we'll make our decision." Blaine insisted.
Kurt nodded in agreement and both got up to answer the door.
"Hi, are you the Hummel-Andersons?" the young woman asked.
"Yes." Blaine replied.
"I'm Hannah Davis, I emailed you about being a nanny." she stated.
Blaine and Kurt smiled. "Yes, come on in." said Blaine, leading her into the house.
"Please have a seat." Kurt insisted, walking into the living room.
"Can I get you a glass of water?" he asked.
"Oh no thank you I'm fine." Hannah replied, sitting down on the couch.
"Well Hannah, I'm Blaine and this is my husband Kurt." Blaine introduced. "Like I said in the email, we have 5 month old sextuplets."
"And one of them is on an apnea monitor and oxygen." Kurt added.
Hannah nodded in understanding.
"If hired, you would be working with another nanny to help me while Kurt is at work." Blaine continued.
"My work days are Monday through Friday." Kurt started. "I usually leave here around 6:15/6:30 and come home between 5:00 and 5:30" he explained. "Since I've been with the company so long, my boss doesn't mind me leaving early every once in a while." Kurt added with a smile.
"Which means we would need you to come around 7:00 am and stay between 6:30/7:00." Blaine added.
"Do you have any problems with that?" Kurt asked.
Hannah shook her head.
"I'm sorry Hannah, but I have to ask you some questions since you will be dealing with several babies at once." Kurt asked, concerned.
Hannah smiled and nodded again. "Sure, but before you do." she took out a piece of paper from her bag. "I want to let you know, I am CPR certified and I know first aid." she said, handing Blaine and Kurt the paper. "Just in case you were wondering. I make sure to renew it every year."
Blaine and Kurt looked at the paper and smiled at Hannah.
"This is very impressive." Kurt insisted.
"Thank you." said Hannah. "I'm sorry, what were those questions you wanted to ask me?"
Kurt shook his head. "Oh right." realizing he forgot what he wanted to ask. "Umm...Like I said earlier, one of the babies, Mackenzie who is the smallest, is on an apnea monitor and oxygen. There have been a few times where she forgets to breathe. The monitor beeps, alerting us she needs to be restimualted to get her heart beating again." he explained.
"Once she does she let's out a loud scream letting you know she's here." Blaine teased.
Kurt nodded agreeing.
"Are you comfortable with that?" Kurt asked.
Hannah nodded. "My nephew was on an apnea monitor after he was born because he had a couple of seizures. He ended up having epilepsy." she began.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Blaine apologized.
Hannah shook her head. "Don't apologize. He's fine now. As long as he takes his medication regularly he's fine. He doesn't usually have seizures unless he's really sick or forgets to take his medicine."
Kurt smiled. "How old is your nephew now?"
"He's 12." Hannah replied. "going on 16 and a real ladies man." she laughed.
Both men cracked up at Hannah's joke.
"Since he was on the apnea monitor, I'm sure you know what to do in case something should happen?" Kurt insisted.
"Yes." Hannah nodded. "I know how to check the baby's pulse and gently stimulate her in order to get her breathing again." she explained. "And if worse comes to worse, I call 911."
Blaine and Kurt nodded solemnly.
Blaine looked at the checklist in his lap. "Hannah, since we do have six babies, you may have to feed two at once. And you will also have to multi-task on several occasions. Do you have any problems with that?"
"Of course not." Hannah laughed. "I've taken care of three children at once before, so I am looking forward to the challenge of six."
"Well, they'll be a challenge when they start crawling which will probably be very soon." Kurt teased, earning a shoulder bump from Blaine.
"There also might be light cleaning involved." added Kurt. "By that I mean, changing diapers, making and cleaning bottles and picking up their toys. Also we may ask you to stay later on occasion. Would any of those things be a problem?"
Hannah shook her head. "No, I don't think so."
Blaine and Kurt looked at each other than back at Hannah and smiled.
"Well, is there anything you'd like to ask us." asked Kurt.
Hannah sat quietly for a few minutes, thinking of something to ask.
"Do you have all boys or all girls?" Hannah asked.
Blaine and Kurt laughed.
"I'm sorry. We forget to tell you." Kurt apologized.
"We have three boys and three girls." Blaine replied. "Would you like to meet them?"
Hannah smiled and nodded.
"They're upstairs with our friends Mercedes and Sam." said Kurt. "Come on. We'll introduce you." said Blaine.
The three of them stood made their way up to the nursery.
Blaine and Kurt led Hannah to the nursery and quietly walked in. Mercedes was sitting in one of the rockers, holding Emma and Devon in her arms while Sam was changing Cory.
"Sam, Mercedes, this is Hannah. She is interviewing to be one of our nannies." Blaine introduced quietly as not to disturb the sleeping babies.
Sam looked up quickly from and nodded. Mercedes did the same thing since her hands were full.
"Nice to meet you." said Mercedes.
"You too." replied Hannah.
"Hannah, let us introduce you to the Hummel-Anderson sextuplets." said Kurt, happily.
Hannah smiled.
"Our first born is over here." Kurt stated, pointing to the changing table where Sam was standing. "This is Cory Dalton."
"And he just got a clean diaper from his favorite uncle." Sam chimed in as he lifted the little boy off of the table.
Blaine just rolled his eyes.
"He's cute." said Hannah.
"I think he looks like Blaine." said Kurt. "But he doesn't see it."
Hannah looked at Cory, then Blaine and back to Cory. "I think I see few similarities."
Blaine shook his head. "I think all of them are going to look like each of us."
"Whatever you say sweetheart." Kurt teased, moving over to the bouncy seats by the wall. "And this is the second born and first girl, Elizabeth Anna." he announced.
"Aww." was all Hannah could say.
"And I'm holding the 3rd and 4th born." said Mercedes.
Hannah turned around to face her.
"This is Emma Paige and Devon Michael." Mercedes continued.
"Number 5 is over here." said Blaine, picking up Henry from his crib. "This is our last boy born and his name is Henry James."
"He's so adorable." said Hannah.
"Wait until you meet the smallest and our little fighter." said Kurt.
Kurt carefully picked Mackenzie out of her baby swing and held her close. "This is Mackenzie Rose. Our little fighter."
Hannah smiled. "They are all so adorable." she cooed. "I would love to be your nanny and take care of them, just as if they were my own children."
"Thank you Hannah." said Blaine, placing Henry in his crib and Kurt did the same with Mackenzie.
"Kurt and I have enjoyed talking and getting to know you." Blaine started as they made their way back downstairs. "We will give you a call in a few days letting you know our final decision." he finished.
Hannah nodded. "Thank you Mr. and Mr. Hummel-Anderson."
They stopped in front of the door. "Please call us Blaine and Kurt." Blaine insisted.
Hannah laughed, but nodded agreeing.
Kurt opened the door for her politely. "Again, it was very nice to meet you." he stated.
"You too." Hannah replied, making her way out of the house.
Kurt closed the door behind her.
"So, what did you think?" Blaine asked his husband.
Kurt nodded. "I liked her. She seems very responsible."
Blaine nodded, agreeing. "Are there any other nannies you liked?"
Kurt shrugged his shoulder. "I don't know honey." he rubbed his face tiredly. "Can we make a decision tomorrow? I'm tired and all I want to do is go upstairs and spend time with the babies."
Blaine smiled and grabbed his hand. "Of course." he replied. "Come on. Let's go upstairs and give Sam and Mercedes a break."
Kurt nodded and followed Blaine upstairs.
