Thalia
Thalia almost regretted her choice of choosing Hephaestus as her mentor. It wasn't exactly her idea in the first place. Mother Nynx had insisted that she could learn more from Hephaestus then she thought, Thalia was not so sure.
For her first lessons she had to sit in his work shop and learn how to make a simple pocket knife. It wasn't nearly as simple as he first said.
"This will be easy," He had said in his deep crackly voice, almost oblivious to the fire jumping around his Zeus sized beard. "All you have to do is…" He preceded to go into a long list of instructions that she really could not remember.
"Right." Thalia said after a moment of pause, "Can I have some type of handbook? Or could you maybe write that down..?" She gave him her best clueless Percy look, she hoped it had the same effect that it usually had for him.
He sighed and sat on a rusty metal chair motioning for her to do the same. He mumbled something under his breath as he searched through his apron pocket. "So first design it." He handed her a pen and a stack of paper.
"Seriously?" She asked incredulously taking the offered pen. When she got no response she gave him a sour look and started to sketch out a knife.
...
The designing wasn't very laborious and the picking of materials could be considered fun, but the building made her want to stab herself with dry point of her misshapen knife. She wasn't bad at building, but she was most definitely no child of Hephaestus and all this proved to do was test her nerves.
"Calm down," He grumbled. He did a lot of that she noticed. He wasn't the most social of people she saw, it annoyed her when he wouldn't make eye contact as that was the best way to make her glare affective.
"This is stupid." She declared, a look of defiance taking over her features. "I cant even get it to be the correct shape damn it."
"Language." He tittered. "Your father is watching." He whispered this as he looked down at his hands.
Thalia groaned but looked at what he was crafting curiously. He was fiddling with metallic like substance. "Get back to your knife." He demanded.
She rolled her eyes but went back to trying to make her knife the correct shape. To her displeasure it wasn't going so well. When ever it went to the right shape it just flopped over and fell out of shape. It was fucking metal that shouldn't happen. She looked up to voice such displeasure only to come face to face with a tablet.
"Oh," She said glancing at the corner he had so obviously ignored. "Blind spot huh," She whispered and looked at the screen.
So you want to be an assassin?
Being an assassin is far more labor then you understand Thalia. It takes years of dedication to master these things. After all everything takes time, but time is all we have. Nynx wishes for you to be fully equipped. So you better listen to these digital lessons. I will not repeat these things out side of this room. Now grab that knife and put your power into it.
...
Good. Now do as you may with it. Your training has only just begun.
Athena
Athena was far more worried then she led on to Artemis. Her nerves just screamed at her that something was wrong with those kids. Something had happened that she was not aware of. Something must have happened, her instincts told her so and that was enough to convince her.
She couldn't trust anyone she knew, they were all suspicious. With their keen eyes and their sudden want to know what she was up to. They were keeping tabs on everyone she saw it happen everywhere.
"What has changed?" She whispered to herself. "A shift in the air is what I sense." She turned to glance over her shoulder, in truth the air had not shifted and her nerves were only serving to terrify her. She disappeared into the night reapering at her temple in seconds. Prayers of worship shuddered to a stop leaving her anxious and drained.
"Dionysus!" She screamed clapping her hands. The drunk sod would able to tell her if what she thought was true.
"What the bloody hell do you want?" Dionysus appeared behind her, a look of bored cruelty decorating his face. The slured words came to no shock and she only titled her head at him, not caring to look at him as he spoke.
"Annabeth Dionysus. What has become of her?" She turned to give him her one eyed glare that she was famous for. "Well? Don't just stand there. Speak!"
"The girl is different." He said uncomfortably, his diet coke was clutched unesscarily hard. "Its so obvious, poor thing tries to hide it." He chuckled to himself.
"How different?"
"Not much yet, but give it time and she will change into one of them. And I'm sure mummy dearest wouldn't like that." Though he smirked as he said the words his eyes showed the nerves that hid, his clutch on the soda had only become harder, his breathing was becoming irregular.
"You've been drinking." She said this as if it were a fact and not truly just an assumption from body language.
"Listen-"
"No I wont tell," A look of relief graced his features. "But I wish for you to watch her. Report to me anything else you notice." She turned away waving her hand in dismissal.
She didn't need to turn to know he was gone.
...
She raised a rough hand to her mouth glancing around the dark room she had found herself in. "No..." A deep terror rooted itself into her as she realized what was happening. "Please..."
