A/N: I'm back! It's my cake day so I wanted to post something for both my stories. I'm sorry it took so long to update and that you're only getting a short chapter right now, but I'm working on fleshing out the outline for the next big job the girls are gonna pull, along with I haven't quite figured out how to not procrastinate. :P I really hope you bear with me because things are gonna start picking back up real soon.
Once again a huge thanks to people who have left reviews, and one to The Great Weiss Shark for looking it over. Also big thanks to those of you who have followed and favourited and have been waiting patiently for the next chapter.
As always I hope you enjoy it and tell me what you think in the reviews.
Two weeks.
That was how long it took Ruby to find a clue.
Either this guy is really good, or I'm slipping.
She stopped for a moment and looked back at the thin teenager behind the cash register she had just convinced to explain how a printer worked while she slipped three different hard drives into her bag, all with an undone shirt button and some light flirting. He waved at her as she made her way through the door and she winked at him, chuckling at the confident smirk on his pasty, acne-riddled face.
Never mind, Bowler Hat Guy is just really good.
She walked to the silver Toyota parked a couple of blocks from the Best Buy she just robbed and smiled at the platinum-haired woman leaning against the hood. Her heart fluttered as the older woman noticed her approached and smiled softly before returning to her usual scowl.
"Do we have everything we need?" Weiss asked as she entered the passenger side of the car.
"Just about." Ruby replied, she turned the key in the ignition and allowed herself a moment of peace in the familiar rumble of the engine. "I just need to pay a friend a visit and pick something up."
She felt Weiss glance over at her with a raised eyebrow, but didn't answer the unspoken question. Instead she pulled onto the busy Montreal streets and drove further into town.
They drove in comfortable silence for twenty minutes before pulling up in front of a large office building and Ruby cut the engine, before turning to Weiss.
"Alright, here's where your business expertise is gonna be needed."
Weiss nodded with a determined look in her eye. "What do you need me to do?"
"Stand still and look annoyed." She giggled as perfect silver eyebrows bunched in annoyance. "Yeah, like that."
Weiss didn't seem as amused.
"Alright, this place holds the blueprints for a lot of important buildings. Y'know, banks, prisons, the vault where they keep KFC's secret sauce." She grinned as she heard the muffled snort of repressed laughter. "Anyway, a contact of mine works here, but getting to see her can be quite difficult as security is tight. So, what we're gonna do is pose as a foreign business partner, you, and her assistant, me. And cause enough of a commotion to get into her office. Here," She handed Weiss various forms of ID to put in her purse. "You said you speak German, right?" Weiss nodded. "Good, that'll help you sell it."
Ruby ruffled her clothes and exited the car adopting a stiff yet clearly exhausted posture before walking around to open Weiss's door. Weiss climbed out of the seat and Ruby was impressed and slightly saddened with how quickly the shorter woman adopted a cold glare to go with the mask of calmness she now wore.
They entered the building and rode the elevator up to the seventeenth floor. She watched as Weiss pulled out the burner Ruby had given her before they left the cottage and pretended to fiddle with it.
The doors opened to reveal a large office space with a receptionist sitting at a desk with a bored expression on his face. She hurried ahead of Weiss and tapped on the desk to get the man's attention.
"H-hi," she stuttered. Based on the way he eyed them both, and the way he perked up at the sound of her faux nervousness, she knew the illusion of vulnerability would have him eating out of her hand in no time. "Miss Dietrich has an appointment with Velvet Scarlatina. I called ahead to schedule it."
The man looked between Weiss, who was standing a few feet off, tapping quickly on her phone with a stern look on her face, and Ruby who leaned slightly more over the desk, with a scared look on her face as she glanced between her friend and the man they were conning.
His eyes roamed over Ruby's body and she fought to keep the shiver running down her spine from showing. Finally he turned back to his computer, tapping a few keys as he looked for an appointment that did not exist.
"Sorry, honey. It doesn't look like there's anything here about a meeting with a Miss Deitrich."
"Are you sure?" Ruby whispered nervously.
"Yeah, Ms. Scarlatina is completely booked today," Ruby noted the hint of venom in the man's voice when he referred to his boss.
"Oh this isn't good." Ruby whined quietly as she turned and walked over to Weiss.
"So here's the thing." She whispered in flawless German. "I need you to pretend to be mad at me like I just ruined your day."
"Alright," Weiss whispered in a deadly calm voice.
Ruby gulped at the way her friend's scowl deepened. "I'm gonna get you in and I need you to tell Velvet that Mademoiselle Adalise sent you and I need her to use the program. When she asks who it will be, tell her the receptionist. She'll know what to do."
"So do you plan on telling me what these things mean?" Weiss asked with a slightly raised voice.
Ruby bowed her head as if she'd been scolded and replied. "All in due time."
With that she turned back to the receptionist, forcing herself to look close to tears as she swallowed her disgust at the man's hungry look. She approached the desk and put on her best damsel-in-distress face before speaking. "C-could you maybe call in at least and let Ms. Scarlatina know that Ms. Dietrich is here about the Lapin project?"
"I dunno, sweetie." The man said. Ruby could tell he was just waiting to see how much she'd beg. "Ms. Scarlatina's currently in a meeting."
Ruby leaned forward and placed a hand on his arm. "Please." She begged, discreetly she pulled out a tiny thumb drive and plugged it into the back of his computer. "If I mess up one more of Ms. Dietrich's meetings, I'm gonna lose my job, and I'm barely making ends meet on my own as it is."
"Well, maybe I can help you, in exchange for, say, your phone number?"
Ruby giggled to cover up the inward eye roll at Casa Nova's attempts to be suave. She wrote down a dummy phone number and handed it to him as he picked up the phone and called Velvet's office. He muttered into the phone with a slight scowl on his face before hanging up and turning back to Ruby with a smile.
"Ms. Scarlatina says that Ms. Dietrich can go right on in."
"Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Ruby cried as she wrapped the man in a hug before turning and hurrying back to Weiss and speaking in German.
"I've got some errands to run. After your meeting with Velvet, head back to the cottage and wait for me there."
"Are you at least gonna tell me what all this has to do with the guy who stole our money?"
Ruby smiled devilishly as she made her way to the elevator. "Easy, we're gonna rob a bank."
