1 HOUR LATER AT THE BEACON ACADEMY AUDITOURIM

Alfred sat in the room with all the other first year students and waited they were called up four at a time as teams and Alfred hated every second of it. He hated all the attention that was being drawn to the team on the stage and knowing all that attention well soon be on him.

As his father once said, "A man in the shadows can accomplish twice what a man in the limelight can do." That saying was one of Alfred's favorites, its meaning was so simple, if you are famous, sure you have influence but everyone knows everything you do. But if you are nobody, no one knows what you are doing and you can do whatever you what without interruption as long as you have the mindset to do it.

Alfred sighed, he reached for a pocket on his vest on the left side and pulled out a journal. He flipped through the pages till he got to one titled "Sayings." The next five pages were filled quotes that Alfred lived by. 80% of them were by Alfred's father, the other 20% were from various books, movies, speeches, and songs. Alfred's father were always his favorite, he just had the perfect way with words.

He took out a pencil and looked down the list till he found the quote he was just thinking of. Below it was 28 tally marks. He marked one more tally mark, each signifying a time when Alfred thought of that specific quote. Alfred smiled as he closed the journal and put it back in his vest pocket.

He looked up as four students walked down from the stage. Ozpin looked out towards the crowed.

"Will these four students please come up? Vladmira Fammus, Eaton Shork, Oculus Titan, and Koi Sakana" Ozpin asked as the students pictures appeared on a monitor behind him.

Alfred watched as Vlad walked on the stage. One day in she has already made a name for herself. Apparently she and her team took on 20 Ursa Majors and walked away victorious. A tale that is already going down in legend. Alfred could tell that the attention was already going to Vlad's head. Alfred examined the rest of Vlad's team knowing that one day he was probably going to fight them.

Oculus was a normal sized guy, maybe 6 foot tall and had to weigh 185 pounds. He had blond hair similar to Jaune's and brown eyes. He had on a navy blue military cap that had the universal computer power symbol on it, a navy blue jacket with a black shirt underneath, black pants, and black gloves that had blue lines running up the fingers that seem to pulsate.

Eaton had to be the exact opposite of Oculus, he had to be at least 6' 7" and had to weigh at least 200 pounds. He was wearing black and orange samurai armor except for the helmet. He had pale skin and a brown buzz cut with gleaming orange eyes. He had two swords sheathed on his back, both with different hilts. Alfred could tell by the shape that one sword was a Katana and the other was a broadsword. The end of the hilts of each sword shaped like puzzle pieces and looked like the fit together. Something told Alfred that's exactly what they did.

Koi, a name that Alfred could stop laughing at, a girl about 5' 4" with long black hair tied up with a knife holding it up and bright blue eyes. She was wearing a black gothic-Lolita jacket and cream colored samurai pants (Like Terra from Kingdom Hearts) with black fingerless gloves that were connected to what look like gauntlets. She was licking a sucker with a childish grin on her face. In her other hand she was twirling a kunai.

Ozpin faced the team, "You guys have already gained some fame among your peers. A pretty impressive feat to be done so quickly. You guys should persistence and dedication to each other and to the tactic that you were using which ultimately led to your victory. A trait that is much admired here. I expect great things from you four. From this day forth, you will work together as Team KOVE led by Koi Sakana"

A cheer rang through the crowd as the four walked down the stage back to their seats.

Ozpin looked back at the crowd, "Lance Python, Vincent St. Clair, Nathan St. Clair, and Alfred Caponen."

Alfred took a deep breath and got up from his seat. As he walked towards the stage, he was joined by Nate, Lance, and Vincent. When they got on the stage, Alfred took off his hat and held it behind him.

"You four are also a team to watch out for. When you gentlemen faced a challenge, you did the exact opposite of what Team KOVE did. Instead of sticking with a strategy and adjusting it to fit the situation, but realizing that your tactics weren't working and trying a new one. By thinking on the fly, you were victorious. From this day forward you will become Team ANVL, led by Alfred Caponen" Ozpin declared.

A roar of applause rang through the building as the heaviest weight dropped on Alfred.

"Leader huh, well crap" Alfred said out loud.

Lance laughed and patted Alfred on the back, "Congrats man, you deserve it" he said as the four of them got off the stage and went back to their seats.

Alfred leaned back in his seat and examined his hat. Leader... didn't see that one coming.

Alfred took a deep breath and put his fedora back on. He looked up towards the stage and watched as Ozpin announced the next team.

"Cardin Winchester. Russel Thrush. Dove Bronzewing. Sky Lark" Ozpin said.

As Alfred watched the four boys walk towards the stage, someone cleared their throat very loudly in the back of the room. Alfred didn't know why this noise bother him but it compelled him to look back to see who made the noise.

Alfred looked to see who made the noise and when he saw who did it, a bead of sweat came down his forehead.

It was man who was about 17 years old and looked exactly like Alfred except for a few things. He had on an eye patch over his right eye, his tie was black instead of red and the card on his hat was the ace of spades instead of diamonds. The boy looked at Alfred and smiled.

'Soon' the boy mouthed.

Alfred rubbed his eyes real quick and looked back to where the man was to see him gone. Alfred's breathing became shallower and he started to shake a bit. Lance must have noticed because he put his hand on Alfred's shoulder.

"Hey are you alright?" Lance asked concerned.

Alfred feigned a smile and nodded. "Yeah, just been a long day," Alfred lied, "Hey I'm going to get some fresh air. I'll see you at the dorm room"

Lance nodded and moved so Alfred could move out the row. Alfred wandered around Campus for a while before finding a balcony near the cafeteria. Alfred leaned along the center railing and took a deep breath.

Alfred took out the journal he used earlier today and opened it up to a part past the quotes. You could technically call it a "diary", but Alfred preferred the term "collection of personal experiences." Alfred flipped to an empty page and took out his pencil.

'Hey mom, I know it's been a while since I've written in here but today seems like a good time to update you on the recent events that have taken place. First off, I'm finally got accepted in Beacon Academy. I got a team and everything. First is Lance Python, now I know that his name is familiar but he is good guy. The next two are actually brothers, Nate and Vincent St. Clair. They looked nothing alike but they have a bond that I haven't seen in a long time. Yeah, it will be interesting working for them for the next 4 years. I suppose I ought to thank you for inspiring me to do this. All your stories of legends and heroes you told me before I went to bed. Maybe one day Mothers will tell their children about Alfred Caponen and his story. Just maybe.'

"Whatcha writing there?" a girl voice asked behind him.

Alfred immediately closed the journal with a solid thud and turned around to see Velvet in the doorway.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," Velvet said.

"It's alright," Alfred said putting away his journal, "just writing myself a reminder"

Velvet nodded, "Mind if I join you?" She asked.

Alfred gestured to the spot next to him on the Balcony. Velvet walked over and leaned on the railing. She took a deep breath and looked at the moon.

"So Miss Scarlatina, what are doing you over here?" Alfred asked her.

"I was walking when I saw you looking distressed. Just wanted to make sure you were alright" she replied.

"Yeah I'm fine, just had a long day y'know" Alfred said sighing.

"Yeah I remember my first day, nearly died 5 times"

Alfred laughed. "Really, you got me beat. I only nearly died 3 times"

Velvet chuckled before sighing. "You sure are different than that man I caught half naked in the girl's locker room" she noted.

"Any man would act differently if they were half naked in the girl's locker room" Alfred replied, "I'm sure you're not the same woman who caught me half naked in the girl's locker room"

"I'm suppose that's true" Velvet agreed.

"Alright, Then what type of person are you then?" Velvet asked.

"Smart, friendly, a bit shy to people I don't know, huge fan of carrot cake, and a believer in hard work and dedication. How about you?"

Alfred thought about this for a moment, "Methodical, classy, a master of card games, motivated, and loves nicknames" He answered.

"Nicknames huh" Velvet noted

"Yep"

"Well in that case, Welcome to Beacon academy," Velvet said putting out her hand," Mafia Boy"

Alfred shook her hand, "Thank you… Bugs"

Velvet laughed, "That's how it is?"

"That's how it is"

Velvet nodded, "In that case, I bid you adieu. Good night" She said before turning around and leaving.

Alfred smiled as he watched her leave the balcony, he looked at the moon and chuckled. "This is going to be a fun time" He said to himself before he left the balcony to find his dorm room.
