*Smirks* Hello everyone! I left you on a little cliff-hanger last time didn't I? Anyway! I'm updating now! I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while, I was meant to update last month but I had a bit of a tough month. Anyway! This is the chapter that you have all been waiting for! Here we go...

Disclaimer: *Finally stops crying* I don't own Young Justice or any of the characters! *rocks in corner*

Dick's P.O.V.

My heart was thumping like a lion trapped in a cage as I ran along the corridors of the hospital. All I heard were Paula's words ringing through my head: 'She's dead, she's dead.' I raced along, no emotion on my face, hoping for the best but knowing of the worst. It can't be true, it can't be. Not now, something must've happened, a fault with the machine, something. I stopped. I stared at the number, 317, before knocking on the door.

"Come in." The familiar voice of the nurse answered. I pulled a deep breath in before opening the door. Paula was sitting in a chair in the corner of the room, looking almost white, her hands were shaking vigorously and her breathing was uneven. The nurse turned towards me, looking sympathetic. She had been rushing around Artemis, moving quickly.

"Richard. We're just doing some final tests, just in case. But so far... I'm sorry it's not looking good."

"Thanks." I mumbled. I walked over to Paula, trying to avoid looking at Artemis.

"I'm sorry, I- I feel like it's my fault. I shouldn't have let her taken it. I knew it was dangerous and I- I didn't stop her." I whispered to Paula, stammering as I remembered the reason why she took it.

"No, it's not your fault. It was Artemis' decision, she wanted to do this. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I'm her mother, I could've stopped her, bu-but I didn't I th-thought it was best, I let her die." Paula burst out crying as she finished talking.

"Don't say that. Like you said, it was her decision. You know how stubborn she is, she would have taken it anyway. No matter what you said."

"Was." I looked at Paula quizzically.

"How stubborn she was."

"Is, how stubborn she is." Both our head snapped to face the nurse who had just spoken up.

"What?" We said in unison.

"She's still alive, I don't know what went wrong but she's still alive." She ran over to the other side of the bed and pressed the bell. She had a stethoscope in her hand and she repeatedly pressed it against Artemis' chest, as if she didn't believe what had happened.

Soon enough, four or five doctors came rushing in, quickly shoving us out of the way and into the corridor. Paula was trying to wheel through them all, but one old, skinny doctor with thick rimmed glasses said to her: 'I'm sorry but you can't be in here at the moment; relatives or not." And turned her around, giving her to me. The door closed and we were left in silence. I wheeled her towards a few waiting seats, situated just outside the door. I sat down and sighed deeply. I ran my hand over my face and through my hair.

"How? How could this have happened?" I glanced over at Paula; her voice was shaking as she spoke. She saw my questioning look and explained,

"She was my last daughter. Now she's gone too. My husband left me, my other daughter ran away and I never know if she's alive or not. Now Artemis is gone, she's dead."

"She's not dead, Paula did you hear the nurse? She said she was alive, Artemis is going to be alright."

"I don't believe it, I don't believe that she's alright. Nothing can be alright after someone has died."

"Artemis isn't dead though Paula, she's fine." At this point I realised Paula was in some major denial. I quickly realised that something similar must have happened before but with a bad ending, maybe a close friend was in a similar situation and they were announced alive, but died. Maybe, I'm just guessing but I've been told that I'm a brilliant guesser.

"No. She's just going to die again, just like my mother." Mother. That explained it.

"Listen Paula, this is different. Artemis isn't your mother, she's strong and stubborn and you know she can survive this. Artemis is going to be fine; she's going to survive this."

"No. No, you're wrong. Stop saying that, stop lying!" Her voice rose significantly and she wheeled herself away, down the corridor.

"Paula! Paula wait! What about Artemis? Paula!"

She was gone.

I waited in the corridor for two and a half hours before the doctor that had pushed us out walked out, sweating. He pushed his glasses up his nose and breathed in.

"She will be fine," He said, his voice raspy, as if he hadn't spoken for a while, "She's sleeping now."

"What happened?"

"Well, she wasn't actually dead in the first place, just unconscious. The machines that monitor whether she's alive or not weren't working properly. Now, that doesn't happen unless they've been tampered with, by someone who is good with electronics. Would you have any idea who could have done something like that?" My blood boiled with anger, why would someone do that? And Paula, she still thinks her daughter is dead, she wouldn't be in this state if that person hadn't messed around. I thought; who could have done this? Well, all of the league have enemies, but why would they just make the monitoring machine fail, why wouldn't they just kill her?

"I'm sorry, I don't know. If it was just the machine, why did you take so long in there? Wouldn't it have been obvious?"

"Yes, it would have been. But while we were checking over her, we noticed something called a Subdural Haematoma. It's acute, so we have been able to see it a few hours after her injury. We hadn't seen it before in her MRI scan, but it has developed. It is a blood clot in between two layers of meninges, which form the protective lining that covers the brain. The blood clot forms in between the Dura mater and the Arachnoid mater in the Subdural space. The Dura mater and the Arachnoid mater are two layers of the meninges. We have made out that it is, fortunately a small case and we shouldn't need to do any operations; however we will need to do repeated physical examinations to assess her level of consciousness and to look for any symptoms that may appear, such as headache, limb weakness, etcetera. We will also have to do repeated CT scanning so we can be sure that the Haematoma isn't increasing in size. Only if her symptoms worsen will we have to perform a surgery, but at the moment we are going to leave the blood clot to re-absorb and clear by itself. Artemis should make a quick and full recovery, as there is no brain tissue damage, but if it grows in size, and becomes a large Haematoma, there is a chance her brain tissue will be damaged and she could pass away." I took a deep breath, taking this all in.

"Okay, so it had nothing to do with the Venom?"

"No, that's working fine; in fact it's working better than usual." I nodded, my head feeling heavy.

"Thank you, doctor."

"No problem, but I'm afraid no one can see Artemis for a while, until we're sure she is okay."

"Okay." I stood up and walked down the corridor, breathing deeply.

Time to find out who tampered with that machine.

Me: TADA! What did you think? Did you like it? I hope you liked it! Please review!

Wally: Phew! Artemis isn't dead! I would have lost my favourite person to wind up!

Me: No wonder you don't have any friends...

Wally: Hey! I do have friends!

Me: If you say so... Anyway! Love you lots and don't forget to review!

Wally: If you review, I'll be your friend!

Me: Thanks, now no one wants to review.
