Elena didn't give him a set date for her arrival, but he knows. Caroline begins to fuss with a guest bedroom suspiciously close to his and she's humming as she does it. Caroline catches his eye and winks.
The next day, Elena knocks on their door after breakfast, tucking hair behind her ear as she waits. He opens the door and she kisses him. After traveling the world alone, living in different cities and countries, she knows home isn't a place.
