yeah, yeah, I'm late. so sue me! No, don't sue me. That'd cost money. anyway, I have a legitimate excuse this time. I have been rewriting "Ghost eyes", and it took a little longer than anticipated. the rewritten chapters should be up later today/this week if you're interested, if not, disregard everything except that I had a legitimate excuse.
Linzy
I gasped and staggered forward, only to stop myself a moment later. I brought my fist to my face and bit down hard on my knuckles, breathing in and out sporadically.
Comoro just tossed Kass into a volcano.
This is NOT happening to me.
Judging by my experience, Kass was bound to be freaking out.
Surrounded by thick, red-hot lava, fearing for her life…
"Linzy!"
Or not.
I gaped down at my friend, who had surfaced and was sputtering lava. Her face and nose were scaly and angular; her hair a few shades redder.
I touched my own face; the bridge of my nose was hard and dry, circular scales marching up my forehead and down my cheeks. There was a raised rectangular strip right under my chin and a smooth oval shaped gem embedded in the base of my throat.
I guess Kass wasn't the only one who'd been kaiju-fied.
Said girl bobbed unsteadily in the bubbling lava pit, her arms waiving in the air.
It was only then I noticed that she was clad only in the fire-proof underwear from before, and I thanked the heavens that she had something to wear.
"Um, guys? Think you can help a Kass out?"
I bit my lip- which felt odd and crackly- and I felt my heart twinge.
I wanted to help her…
An unfamiliar feeling tickled my back, and pricks of pain emerged along my shoulder blades. The pin-pricks welled up, growing more intense, and I gasped for air as I fell to the ground. I cried out in agony as my entire body convoluted; my back felt like someone was peeled off my skin and poured lemon juice on what was left behind.
"Linzy? Whats wrong?! What's going on up there?" I heard Kass vaguely say, but it was hard to focus on her voice when my shoulder blades were on fire.
Suddenly two white-hot swords of torture burst out from my skin, piercing the flesh above my scapulae and shooting outwards. I felt the hot air as it rushed over what felt like two new arms, but when I turned to look…
Wings.
I had giant, twice-the-size-of-my-body wings that unfurled slowly, sticky with the sort of residue you'd expect to see on a new born animal.
I stared unabashedly, tentatively attempting to move the new appendages.
They weren't that heavy, and surprisingly were as easy to maneuver as my own arms…as if they'd been there this whole time, waiting on me to let them out.
Not that I'd go through all that pain again, just for a pair of wings. Trust me… it's not worth it.
I furrowed my brow and, with a determined flick, used my wings to stumble unsteadily to my feet.
I heard a sharp intake of breath as my back faced the Femju. I turned and glared at them, daring them with my eyes to try and stop me.
Comoro looked more so surprised than angry though, and I squinted at her for a moment before turning away abruptly.
I didn't have time to figure her out at the a grunt of effort I swept my wings out and flapped them, grinning stupidly for a moment as my feet left the ground.
'I've always wanted to fly.' I thought, amused and slightly disappointed at how easy it was.
My wings- despite emerging only moments before- were strong, and it took little effort to flit through the air. I swooped down towards Kass, whose eyes were wider that saucers, and posed cockily.
"Need a lift, friend?" I asked, giving her a toothy smile before gripping her forearms with my hands.
I pulled her up and encircled her waist with my arms, again thankful for the long johns as we floated back over to the ledge above the pit.
"Linzy…you're flying!"
"Apparently."
We tumbled onto the rock and I let myself roll with the momentum before coming to a stop.
"I guess my landings need a little work…"
