Here is chapter 5! Happy New Year everyone!
Scarlett's POV
He looked momentarily confused then realisation swept over his face...
'You thought I was going to have you arrested because you thought that I thought you were a murderer' He summarised.
I looked up feeling embarrassed.
'Yes' I confirmed.
He sighed and swept a hand through his perfect hair.
'Scarlett, I would never have done that to you. I knew that you weren't a murderer. You told me what had happened and I believed you, it was an accident.' He said.
'Where did you actually go then?' I queried.
He looked at me through his compassionate golden eyes and I could tell that he seemed to care about me genuinely.
'I went to ring my family' He replied.
'I see' I said feeling stupid, of course he was going to ring his family for advice. I had literally just told him that I know everything about him.
I still had a horrible nagging feeling that I had meant to kill Janice, I didn't care that she was dead because I hated her but should I have stayed and helped her out? I just left my dad there panicking; he doesn't even know that I am safe. For all he knows I could be dead.
Carlisle sensed that there was something up so he lifted my chin with his cool hand and forced me to look into his eyes, like a concerned father would.
'What's wrong?' he asked knowingly.
I sighed.
'Do you think...' I started 'Do you think that it I am a bad person for leaving?'
'Of course not!' Carlisle said with certainty 'you were afraid and that woman was horrible to you. Maybe you should not have reacted so violently to her taunts, however she was wrong to push you that far. Especially considering the trauma you have been through.'
A tear slipped down my cheek from the bottled up guilt I had, but I felt a little better. Seeing my tears, Carlisle gently pulled me up and into his arms, just as compassionately as he was described in the books. He held me closely as I wept against his light blue shirt and rubbed my back comfortingly. He waited until my sobs subsided before gently laying me back against the pillows and handing me a tissue. I wiped my nose and eyes before taking a deep calming breath; Carlisle held the water to my lips again and I gratefully drank. After I had finished I had a few questions to ask him.
'Where am I?' I asked.
He looked at me with confusion.
'No I mean country, I know I am in your house but where am I in the world?' I corrected myself.
'Oh, I see. You're in Forks, Washington, US' He informed me in his British accent.
This was worse than I thought, I had actually somehow teleported into a fictional world.
'So I am no longer in London?' I said in shock.
'No, I'm afraid not.' He said slowly.
'Can I try to ring my friend's number to see if I am still in the same dimension or universe or whatever?' I asked.
'Sure' Carlisle said fishing his phone out of his pocket and handing it to me.
I punched in the numbers and pressed the call button, after a brief pause, the animated phone voice informed me that the number was incorrect. I then tried four other numbers of friends and family, all were not found. I was definitely in another world! At least this meant that no one would ever know about Janice, but did I really want to go back was the question.
I handed Carlisle his phone back, 'No good' I said.
'I don't know how you managed to transport here, however I imagine a friend of mine may have answers. You may have heard of him before-'
'Eleazar' I cut him off.
'Yes' he continued 'he knows a lot about gifts and strange phenomena. If however we find that we cannot get you home then we will have to discuss what will happen to you.'
My face fell. What if I can't get home? Do I even want to?
'Until then, I would like you to get some rest because when you are well enough, I have some people who are anxious to meet you.' He said with a smile.
'Okay' I smiled back, he made me feel safe and reassured.
'Would you like me to give you something to help you drift off or do you think you can fall asleep by yourself?' He asked me.
I didn't feel at all tired but I didn't like the idea of a needle being injected into me again. Carlisle saw my uncertainty and as if he had read my mind he explained to me that the needle would go into the IV and I wouldn't feel a thing. I agreed and he injected the medicine into the thin clear tube. He then made sure that I was comfortable before pulling a blanket over me and ruffling my hair.
'I'll see you when you wake up' he said.
Then as I began to feel tired, he turned to leave.
'Carlisle?' I muttered sleepily.
'Yes?' He paused and turned back to me.
'Where are the others?' I asked.
'I sent them away to hunt in Alaska with the Denali's, I needed you to settle in here first and recover before you saw anyone.' He answered me.
'Oh, okay' I slurred, letting my eyes close.
He started to leave again and he reached for the door handle.
'Carlisle?' I whispered, extremely dazed by the medicine and at on the brink of falling into unconsciousness.
'Yes?' He turned back to me yet again.
'Thank... you...for...for taking care...of me' I managed to mumble.
'You're welcome' I heard his smile 'Now get some sleep' he said gently.
I heard the door click and he was gone. I let go of consciousness and surrendered to a warm blanket of sleep...
