Here's Chapter 7 guys! Enjoy!
Scarlett's POV
I stared nervously at Eleazar as he came towards me and sat in the chair that Carlisle had placed next to the bed. Leaning forward he shook my hand and smiled warmly at me.
'Hello Scarlett' He said smoothly 'My name is Eleazar and I am a close friend of Carlisle's.'
I awkwardly shook his hand back.
'Hi' I said quietly. I don't know why I felt so nervous.
Carlisle sat down in the other chair next to my bed and squeezed my hand reassuringly.
'It's okay Scarlett. Eleazar is only going to help you answer some of your questions' Carlisle soothed.
I nodded and took a deep breath.
'I have the ability to sense gifts' Eleazar started 'From what I have heard, you know about almost everything in this town in quite a bit of detail.'
I nodded again, wary of how he would react to this. But he simply smiled and continued on.
'Since you have been able to just appear in this world I would like to ask you a few questions if that is alright' he said.
'Okay' I answered, feeling a little more at ease.
'Can you remember the last thing you were doing before you woke up here in Forks?'
I knew exactly what I was doing. I was running from the police, I wasn't sure if Eleazar knew about the Janice situation and I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell him about it. I glanced nervously at Carlisle for some help out of this awkward question.
Carlisle gave me an understanding look, 'It's okay Scarlett, you can tell Eleazar. He knows the gist of the story and he will not judge you.'
I glanced at Eleazar who was comfortingly smiling back at me 'I know about the Janice situation Scarlett and I do not blame you' he said softly.
I was instantly reassured.
'Well I was in a tree, hiding from the police' I said 'they arrived too quickly for me to climb down and there were dogs and a helicopter. I was trapped. My only way out was this fast flowing stream on the other side of the tree. I thought if I could jump in then I would be carried away and would be able to hide somewhere along the embankment. But the dogs and noise startled me as I tried to climb nearer the water and I slipped and fell in'
'What happened next?' Eleazar asked me curiously.
'I am not sure, I could feel the freezing water and I couldn't swim because the current was too strong. I think there were rocks in there because I felt my head hit something but I couldn't tell which way up I was. Everything went black soon after that and I guess I lost consciousness.' I finished.
'And you don't remember anything after that? There were no weird sensations, visions or bright lights?' Eleazar queried.
'Nope, the next thing I remember was the hospital and meeting Carlisle for the first time'
'I see' he said. He seemed a little shocked.
'Is there something wrong?' I asked, jogging him out of his thoughts.
'No, no. Not at all.' He reassured before standing and looking to Carlisle. 'Would you excuse us for a moment while I talk to Carlisle?'
'Sure' I said, feeling uneasy.
Carlisle rose up out of his seat and walked with Eleazar to the door.
'We won't be a minute' Carlisle said before they both left and shut the door behind them.
I lay there in bed for what seemed like ages. I was getting fed up and I wanted Carlisle to come back. As time went by I decided to check for myself what was going on. I started to sit up and had just swung my legs over the bed, when I heard the door open. I quickly tried to jump back into position but jolted my ribs and I cried out, nearly falling off of the bed.
Carlisle rushed in followed by Eleazar. Carlisle picked me up and set me down back in the appropriate position, once I was settled he gave me a stern but caring look.
'Scarlett.' He said firmly 'You promised me you wouldn't get out of bed'
I sighed. Why did things always go wrong for me? I hated being scolded, especially by Carlisle! He had put himself out for me and accepted me into his home and all I was, was a huge problem for him.
I glanced up at him nervously and he had his 'doctor' look on, which was a strange mix of compassion, fatherliness and authority.
'Sorry' I said 'I was just desperate to know what was going on'.
Carlisle sighed and offered Eleazar to sit down before he sat down himself.
'Scarlett, Eleazar has not seen any gift potential in you.' He said softly.
'What does that mean?' I asked.
'It means we don't know how you got here but it wasn't via you having a power or a teleportation gift or anything. Something strange happened when you fell into the stream.' Eleazar filled in.
'Right... So what happened?' I asked.
'We are not entirely sure but...' Eleazar awkwardly started then paused.
'But we do not think that the change is reversible' Carlisle finished.
I still looked confused because they continued.
'It sounds to me like you would have not made it out of the water alive. Your injuries and what you described sound too fatal to have ended with you being alive' Carlisle said.
'We think that you may have been on the verge of death and something supernatural happened. Like a kind of afterlife or a second chance' Eleazar picked up again.
'So I'm dead?' I asked shocked.
'No, but something happened that transported you here so that you could carry on living happily and healthily away from any problems. We are not sure what saved you but something did.' Eleazar said.
'Do you understand what this means Scarlett?' Carlisle asked me.
I nodded slowly. I was a bit shocked but I was following what they were saying, it needed time to sink in.
'This means you cannot go back to your old life' Eleazar said.
That thought scared me. I was in Forks, in this different world, forever...
'But what do I do? I have no family here, no idea of how to get by. There are no records of me, how can I carry on normally?' I said in a rush. I was flustered and scared.
Carlisle looked at me and then looked to Eleazar sending him a silent request.
'I will leave you and Carlisle to talk now, it was a pleasure meeting you Scarlett and I hope I helped.' Eleazar said standing, understanding that we needed space to talk.
Carlisle rose and shook his hand smiling, 'Thank you so much for coming over here old friend. I will see you soon.'
Carlisle disappeared and showed Eleazar out before returning to my bedside.
'Scarlett?' He said softly.
I removed my head from my hands and looked at him through teary eyes.
'I would like you to meet my family. They will be here tomorrow but for now I need you to get some rest. You have had an emotional past few hours and the medication won't help.' He said, gently picking me up and rearranging me so that I was lying down comfortably.
I was quiet because I was still in shock, a lot had happened and I just didn't know what to say. After I was settled, Carlisle injected a medication into my IV.
'This will make you drowsy so that it is easier for you to rest' he smiled 'and don't worry; I won't let anything happen to you. You are in my care and I will not abandon you.'
With that, he turned and walked out of the room closing the door behind him.
In the short time I had spent with Carlisle, he already felt like a father to me, but I couldn't tell him that. He would think I was just saying it to stay with the Cullens. I didn't want him to think that I was taking advantage of him.
So I simply did the only thing I could do and gave into the soothing drug of sleep yet again...
