Chapter 14: A Walk Through the Valley of Death ~ - . . - ~ Tournament Saga

"So where are we going?" She asked.

"We are going… That's a good question, Yamcha, where are we going?" he wondered.

"That way." Yamcha said, tugging on Goku's leg in the direction of Training Island.

"That way!" Goku said triumphantly, like he knew the answer the whole time.

"And what will we be doing there?" Launch asked.

"Well, here is the deal. You see, me, Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi are all going to be training on the island. But while we are busy doing this, we won't have time to keep the house clean, time to cook food, nor time to wash the cloths. That will be your job. In exchange, we will keep you in the house with us. We are stronger than your other half, we will make sure she won't leave. You can expect to wake up in the same house for the next several months, in the same bed, and be with the same people. Also, it would be my pleasure to befriend you. So, how does having a constant schedule sound?" said Yamcha.

Launch thought about this for a while. A place to call home… How many times has she woken up, and not known were she was? Too many to count. Within the past week? She wasn't really sure, she stopped counting days a while ago. When days could pass without being conscious, and you never had anything planed or anywhere to go, time lost meaning. To keep to a schedule would be… nice. To actually have something to do besides run, hide, and fend for herself all the time would be a pleasure. And to keep her evil half in control is hard, but she thought these guys seem to know what they are doing. Maybe, just maybe, she could live a normal life.

"Yes, I would love that! When would I start?" Launch asked.

"Right abooouutttt… Now." Yamcha said, as the Volcano came into view. Uch, that thing caused a lot of trouble. Thank kami it won't go off for the next couple of years. But hey, as long as it isn't erupting, it makes a nice scenery.

"Woahhh." Goku said in aww, with Launch mimicking him shortly after

Indeed, the whole island is actually a vacation spot for the rich who wants to get away from it all. It has Volcanos, beaches, forests, scattered palm trees, mountains, rivers, shark infested lakes, dinosaurs, saber tooth tigers, grass lands, farms, construction, scattered houses, a quaint little village, and soon it will be inhabited by a Saiyan. And this Saiyan's name is Goku.

"Hey Yamcha, there are houses over there!" Goku said nativity.

"Yes, there are. This is a high profit resort island. And we will be using it to train for the next several months. The houses won't even get in the way, the will be helping us. Oh, and go that way" Yamcha explained

"How will they help us?" The Saiyan kid wondered.

"You'll see." Yamcha responded. That was the last bit of conversation before they finally hit the ground. "It should be around… Ah, there he is!" He said, pointing straight up. Well, almost straight up. Yamcha purposefully put them in the forest underneath the plateau. "No using Kinton. Just get to the top under your own power. Launch, you can climb onto my back. It would be a nice workout for me." He said, turning around and smiling at her.

"But this is so tall! And it's getting kind of dark, we won't be able to see! How can we climb?"

"I agree with… Goku, that's your name, right?" She got a nod of approval. "Are you sure about this?"

"Come on guys, have I let you down yet?" Yamcha said, his smirk showing some ill-meant mischief. "Well, I guess I haven't. At least, not yet. So come on, get on!" he started walking towards the mountain, and feeling it for a good place to start.

Goku and Launch looked at each other. One held a bit of disbelief, but the smaller one just shrugged and went towards the imposing wall of stone. They exchanged a bit of banter, about who would be the first at the top. But she stood back, waiting and thinking.

I know I should go. I trust him. I don't know why, but with him I feel… Safe? Can I even feel that anymore? He seems so reliable, so trusting. Like he is used to dealing with others constantly, and yet continuing to wake up in the morning to continue going on. Like he could always be there.

She started walking towards him, when another thought started to creep into her mind. But I don't know him! I have seen other people who I thought I would trust, but I was wrong! He seems to be ok… Well, I came this far. Might as well go all the way! And I can't stay here. She turned around, to see 2 red eyes glowing at her from the jungle. "EEP!"

She ran to Yamcha and jumped on his back, knowing that at the very least, she was safer with him.

"Oy, he already has a head start. Hold on tight, I'm about to start climbing." She thought she was holding on tight! How much tighter did he want her to hold? He grabbed onto the wall with one arm, then with the next. One foot, 2 foot. He looked up, and then before she could realize what he was doing, they were 10 feet in the air.

OH KAMI I NEED TO HOLD TIGHT! She thought, grabbing onto him even tighter and shut her eyes tight. She felt her stomach settle out, but she was still going so fast! She couldn't see anything, hear anything, or taste anything. But she felt a lot. The sudden jerks as he went from right to left, and the hardness of his body… whoa, how did I not notice that earlier?

"Uch, he might beat me. I'm still injured and he got a head start, but I should still be able to catch up with him! Hey, hold on tighter, ok?"

"Ok!" She was starting to get used to this. How much worse could it get? Well as she soon found out, it got much worse, and really fast. The cliff went from being a detailed outline of outcropping rocks to a blur of brown. She instinctively grabbed even tighter to Yamcha's body. Suddenly, there wasn't brown anymore. It was a split between blue, white, and green.

"Wopes, I went too fast. I guess we are flying now. So, how you doing back there?"

Her head was rushing, adrenalin pumping, eyes unfocused, arms and legs hurting, and her hair was a mess. So of course, it was natural for her to say. "That was pretty cool! How did you do that?"

"Well, I did say I am strong enough to keep the other you here. I don't make empty promises, nor do I enjoy to lie. Your safe here." he stated, as if it was a matter of fact.

She loosened up her grip a bit, and took a couple of seconds to view the souroundings. "Well, the view is nice." She said, smiling. They were already falling back down towards the ground. But she thought about her words one more time. Safe… and she clung on tighter again.

Then they hit the ground hard. Some dirt, dust, and pieces of grass were thrown into the air. Yamcha set her down gracefully so that she wouldn't be able to fall off. "Hey, how did you guys get above me?" She heard a familiar young voice ask. But she wasn't really listening. The dust was enough to not only block Goku, the owner of the voice, from sight, it also started to tickle her nose.

"ACHO!"

"ACHO!"

Ok, assess the situation. Where and when am I? Dust? That's not very helpful. Dark outlines of figures. That's never a good sign, especially considering I just robed a train. I didn't wake up in a prison, so I might be getting escorted there right now. They always do this, they don't feel right putting hand cuffs on me once in nice and 'docile'. She thought that last word with a very negative disposition. So they let me go without them. Fools. I'll just get away now. They will never be able to catch me.

He felt her Ki triple, and then some. He sensed it deepen, change, like she was a completely different person. Then he detected her backing away. He still couldn't see because of the smoke, but it was starting to settle. She needs her space. She just changed to her other self, she doesn't know what is happening. She can't get away, Goku and I are both here, and the cliff is on the other side. She should be able to see the cliff soon, the dust is settling. As long as she doesn't make any rash decisions…

Phew, that was fun! I thought I would beat him, but he sped up at the end! He is so strong, I'm happy I get to train with him! And Roshi is close, I can almost smell him! Hmm, what's that sound? Someone sneezed? Hmm, I better cover my nose then. I don't want to sneeze. Not in the mood. I'm also hungry. I can't wait to eat! Maybe I should go find the house. Wait, I can't smell my way to him! Maybe if I listen very carefully… what was that 'tac'? Was that him? I'm-a go that way!

'Tac' she tripped, causing her to fall backwards as she was stealthily sliding her way away from the 2 shadows. Unlike feeling the intense forces of rocketing away from the ground, like her other self-did, she felt the floating, the weightlessness, and then a misplaced stomach. She has been through this several times herself, the whole suddenly falling thing. Usually it's when her other-self sneezed herself backwards, or when she trips over some gem that cut itself free from her getaway bag. Over time she taught herself several ways to keep momentum while flipping one way or the other. These simple techniques have save her from the jail cell and injury several times, and will probably save her from it again in the future.

Except for one little detail that she wasn't aware of. She tried placing her hands down where there was nothing but air and a bit of dust, right off the side of the cliff. She fell hands first down past the cloud of dust. Sharp trees or rocks at the bottom, and nothing to grab onto on the way down. Hmm, I guess I'm not going to make it. Well, at least I get to see my death. Better than dying unaware to the world.

Good, I made it in time. Yamcha thought, as he grabbed her shod foot. Now, to slow her down by throwing her up and myself down… and now to get a firm grasp on the wall. He thought, while kicking the wall or rock so hard that it left an intent of the front of his shoe inside, and trapped his foot there. He also shoved one of his hands into the face of the cliff to stabilize himself. It hit the rock so hard that it left a 5 finger indent, one that looks very similar to what was left on the Ox-King. She wasn't thrown up high enough for Goku to catch her. Guess I better climb up and catch her myself. So he did.

And she was thrown into the air. She lost all hope of living, but somehow she is still alive. Spinning like a rag-doll, she first set on stopping the spin. Only one thought came to her mind, fire her submachine gun. She pulled it out of the Beta version of a Capsule Corporation Capsule, one she had hidden, sown into the back of her shirt. This edition of Capsule was much flatter then its brothers, and doesn't need to be thrown on the ground to release what was inside. This edition of the standard Capsule was abandon when one of the test modules accidentally went off inside of the tester's pocket and released a house, crushing the leg of the pocket it was in. The company was able to stave off most of the lawsuits that followed, but did the right thing and gave said tester a robotic leg. It is better than nothing, and any lawsuits that got through the company's lawyers are helping the guy live his life comfortably.

With the weapon in hand, she fired a burst in the direction of her spin. Some of the flying bullets cleaved the rocks and burst chunks of the wall out, others flew towards the water, and a few flew over the forest until they lost enough speed and only took out a few branches before stopping. She didn't mean to not hurt anyone, the bullets just happened to not hit any living thing, besides a couple of trees. She released smaller and smaller bursts from her automatic weapon until she wasn't spinning anymore, but she was at the height of the throw. Still not over the cliff, she thought about grabbing onto a root or something coming out from the rocks. Unfortunately, there was nothing of the sort. Well, there doesn't seem to be anyone who can save me. The guy who tried is probably dead by now. I wonder if 2 guns is enough to slow me by the time I fall to the floor. She thought, as she pulled another gun from her back and aimed at the ground.

"Woah, hold on their Launch! Don't go shooting me yet!" a voice said from underneath. He's not dead? Wait, he knows my name. This is bad. But dropping is worse… let's see what he can do.

She was caught princess style, across his arms, much to her irritation. The force of her coming down and him coming up slowed them down a great deal, she realized they aren't going to make it.

So I have two options. One, throw her up and then climb back after falling a bit. But I doubt Goku will be able to deal with her, especially while she is holding two guns out. Or I can push my limits of Ki and make a wall under my feet and jump off. Of course, if I do the second one and it doesn't work, I won't have enough Ki to save both of us… Damn, we are falling. Plan 2.

Wow… that was a pretty intense explosion. Thought some random person on the island, looking at the mighty dust cloud that just formed. Well, I'm sure everything will be fine, it's most likely a capsule opening up. It is not like someone is going to fall off that cliff unaware that it's there… and then someone fell of the cliff. Oh god, this is bad. I should probably call the police and get an ambulance… And then someone jumped off the cliff after them. Nononono you're not supposed to do that, you're not a super hero, you are going to die, where did I put my phone? The second person caught up to the first one, who looked like a girl, up the cliff. Is she going to make it? No, no she isn't. And the other guy? Come on, don't die on me. You're being so heroic. Ah, there's my phone! It looked like he grabbed onto the cliff and instantly stopped. Can... Can people do that? … Oh, my phone. No bars. He jumped almost straight up, catching the person who looked like she was dancing with guns and shooting bullets everywhere. They aren't going to make it. I know a bit about first aid, but if they fall… Did anyone get hit by those? Then they seemingly jumped off of the air. Oh… Well then… Maybe all this fresh air and jogging is going to my head. I might be dehydrated or something. I think it's time to go home.

We just made it… Phew, I'm happy to be alive. But first. She thought, while the 2 guys were talking about something. She then jumped out of his arms, away from the cliff, and leveled the guns at their heads. "Ok, no one is goin to move. I'm calling the shots now. So, why are you here and why do you have me?"

"Ok, I won't move if you won't shoot. And to answer your questions, one, we are here to train and become stronger. Two, we have you because you wanted us too. The other one wanted protection, to always know where she was. We can offer you the same, and also say that while with us that you won't need to steal anything, we will provide. Although I know you would still like to steal things, so if you feel you have to, you can. We can also be friends if you want."

Friends, just who does he think he is? He did save me, but… Uch, I just can't believe him. He must have had some special way to jump in air. Well, if he does have some powers, let's see him dodge this! She thought, with her scowl turning into a malicious grin. She fired the gun that was pointing at the guy with the long hair, releasing one bullet, and one only, at the scar faced bandit. Faster then she could see, his hand came up and stopped the bullet, open palm. It cut him, just a bit, but she could see the blood coming out of the wound. He bleeds. He's not god, he's not a robot. Just a man. I still can't trust him though. But it's good to know I can hurt him if I need to.

"Ok, fine, let's go. Take me to where I'm staying. I could use a vacation." She said, so nonchalantly. She slung one gun over her shoulder, and the other she put back into the capsule on her back. "So where are we going?"

"That way" Yamcha said, pointing with the hand that wasn't bleeding. "Oh, btw, there are 2 more guys there. One is a Master of Martial Arts, and the other is a young monk in training."

"More guys?" Launch said, rolling her eyes. "Sigh, that's a pain. I'll shoot them if they start annoying me. By the way, what's your names?"

"I'm Yamcha, this is Son Goku" "Hai!" "The bald small one is named Krillin, and the Old bald one is called Master Roshi."

"And this master is training you? Would I be able to catch bullets if I trained with you?"

"Yes, he is training us…" He said, remembering that Master Roshi didn't want to train a lot of people. "But all of us already came in with prior training. You would need to train yourself up for a bit before you can do something like that."

She didn't trust him. He was really strong, but she was stronger than most people. It made sense though, not even she could stop bullets. But wait. "How do you know how strong I am? I haven't beat anyone up in front of you yet."

"I can sense how strong people are. Most people, like that person all the way over there, are around 5. You are a 20. Goku here is 40. And I'm 70. Krillin is around 40, but weaker than Goku. And Master Roshi is 160."

"Only a 20? Wait, this kid is stronger than me?" And they continued this banter all the way back to the house. In such a way that only good friends could.

~ - . LAD . - ~

I made this on 31-3-14. I edited this on 11-10-14. 6 months later, aka, half a year. I am so proud of myself :')

~ - . Q AND A . - ~

Q - It is a really sad story, for some character who gets blamed and made fun of. He gets sent back in the past since the beginning of dragon ball, knowing what will happen he has to replay legendary encounters throughout his life before he is near his death again. This story is pretty good, you should maybe ask Toriyama for some kind of novelation of this fan fic, because it is beyond expectations of a fiction. Hopefully Yamcha will be at his current time again and it will end in a good way :D.

A – Thank you for loving it! And novelization… I wouldn't ask Akira. This is just a hobby for me, and as good as it is, it doesn't need to be a novel (and I don't think it could be one by the very nature of it, it's based too much off of other people's work.) However, I am glad that a site such as Fanfiction allows me to publish my work here.

Q - Well I haven't read your story in a while because I haven't seen an update but I must say I'm very confused and can't wait how the plot will work out and with Yamcha being from another universe in he's younger body

A – Well, in DBZ, there was never an instance of 2 souls being in the same body (besides fusion), so why not have 3 stuffed in the same body? That is, if there even is 3 full souls (hue hue hue…)
And about the confusion, I can clear that up in the messages, so ask me there.

Q - That cop went through something weird ha-ha and now Launch is in the picture and do you have good idea of the plot you doing or you adding bits in or you just going along with it?

A – Why not both? Lol, but seriously, I have a plot in mind, but if some other ideas come up, or i feel that characters would act differently then i would like them to, then the plot might have to change.

Q - Nice story hope you keep the humans strong throughout this story. Update soon

A – I am hoping to do so. This fanfiction will be moving towards human's their emotions, and their potential. Saiyans will still be over powered, but that doesn't mean humanity won't have an ace up their sleeve.

Q - One of the few authors that recognize that Pu'ar is a boy! Thank you for that! And also I love this story! Keep it up!

A - I didn't really know there was a controversy? I only read the manga, and from there, I always though he was a he.

~ - . POWER LEVELS . - ~
