Hawke could only stare at Kirkwall slowly slip away from the confines of her assigned cabin, the huge glass window much like the one Isabella had on her ship. The boat gently swayed as it rode the waves, heading for Denerim. Trinity rested her back on the window frame as she had perched herself on the window sill; she felt as if she could break through the glass at any moment but right now, she didn't care less. She had angered Carver somehow and he was now ignoring her, causing Merrill to do the same despite having tried to speak to Hawke, but she was dragged away by Carver.
Winter had told both Fenris and herself the good, yet depressing, news about her newly-found relationship with Blaize; Fenris had immediately exploded into rage, ranting on about him being an extremely dangerous mage and the two had been rowing for the past hour. Bruiser was currently with Katherine's other mabari Rex, having soon become fast friends and were probably both rampaging on the deck. Both King Alistair and Queen Katherine had tried to speak with Hawke, sensing that something was wrong, but she just shooed them away. Hawke knew they meant right, but she still had to make up her mind about Katherine; the woman turned her blood to ice and she still couldn't get her head around how an ingenious, yet honest, fool would be with someone as cold and stern as Katherine Cousland.
She could still hear Fenris and Winter arguing in the room next to hers;
"That mage will only hurt you! He is nothing but trouble!"
"You don't know him like I do, and in case you have forgotten; I am a mage also."
She heard Fenris snort with disgust, "I'm surrounded by filthy mages; what has magic touched that it doesn't spoil?"
Hawke's eyes widened when she heard a very loud slap; assuming that Winter had just slapped Fenris across the face. He deserved it of course, even Hawke knew that. What Fenris had said was completely wrong, especially if he didn't want two female mages throwing fireballs at his arse. It was those very same words Fenris had used a couple of years before, and to Hawke it felt like Fenris had just done the same thing to her as he did with Hadrianna.
The door slammed and Fenris immediately came crashing through their cabin door, throwing it back as it almost flew off its hinges. Hawke didn't flinch once and chose to stay out of it, her eyes staring out to the distance, taking in the ocean's serene beauty. She could sense him seething with rage, his lyrium markings irradiating erratically as he paced back and forth. He muttered to himself in Arcanum, not knowing that Hawke was still listening intently.
"You need to calm down Fenris; Winter has made her decision and even if you are her uncle, she will not listen to you," Hawke turned her head to meet Fenris' death-glare, her voice as calm and soothing as she could make it.
"I am the only thing she has!" Fenris snapped, his eyes feral and his breathing rapid.
"And that is why you need to be patient with her."
Fenris sighed in exasperation, knowing Hawke was completely right even (though he didn't want to admit it). His markings slowly faded whilst he took deep breaths before stripping off his armour so he was just in a shirt and his usual leggings, feeling like he needed to get rid of the added weight. Fenris slid behind the gap Hawke had created between her body and the window frame, one of his legs bent as it supported him on the window sill and the other outstretched on the floor. He gently pulled Hawke into a loving embrace, burying his face into her neck.
"I'm sorry…" His whispers always sent shivers down Hawke's spine, causing her to be aroused every damned time. Of course, she rarely showed how much his voice affected her.
"I am not the one who you should be apologising to," Hawke sighed, leaning into Fenris' embrace as his lips traced the curve of her neck, his nose taking in her intoxicating scent of jasmine and rosewater.
Fenris tangled his fingers amongst Hawke's red locks, his other arm wrapped around her stomach. He always loved how soft her hair was, how it cascaded gracefully to her shoulders and how it became a rough, tangled mess after they had made love. Of course, he missed her old hair which hung halfway down her back; but if Isabella hadn't cut it from the grasp of that revenant Hawke wouldn't be here today, and that memory constantly plagued him.
"Trinity…" his voice appeared to be shaking slightly, showing an extremely rare case raw emotion through his voice alone.
"What's on your mind?" Hawke knew this was the question Fenris wanted her to ask, she knew him too well.
"How could you leave behind everything in Kirkwall so easily?" Fenris whispered bluntly, his chin resting on her shoulder.
Hawke frowned, "It wasn't easy in the slightest," she closed her eyes as she fought back tears before smiling sadly, "I left behind my friends, my home, everything. But I must do what is right for my future, and protect those I hold dearest to my heart."
Fenris frowned, trying to absorb the words she just spoke so passionately and calmly, "Your future..?"
"With you, yes."
Hawke smirked to herself as she could feel the surprise irradiating from Fenris, his body had tensed slightly and she knew his eyebrows had disappeared into his moon-white hair, his mouth slightly open.
Fenris couldn't believe what he was feeling; his heart felt like it was about to burst out of his chest but he still felt concerned about what she meant by that. Was Hawke truly serious about their…Relationship? Despite everything that had happened, Fenris was still trying to figure out what Hawke really wanted from him. Of course, he knew that she loved him conditionally; but could he return the love she well and truly deserved? He thought not, but he had always doubted himself when it came to being in love with the only person who had ever shown him kindness without wanting something in return.
Without thinking, Fenris allowed his self-doubt to show; "Why would such a…Beautiful woman such as yourself, want to have a future with an escaped slave like me? An elf no less."
He suddenly felt Hawke burn up in rage, literally. Her skin became painful to touch, as if it scolded him and she turned around, facing him as flames seemed to be dancing in her emerald green eyes.
"Do you honestly think after all these years of all the shit we have been through to get to this point in our lives, that I would just leave you the instance our lives change?" Hawke's voice began strong and angry, but towards the end of her sentence, the fire in her eyes transformed to tears, her words becoming sobs.
"Hawke I-"
"I have loved you unconditionally for so long, and you would just think I would bat it away as if it didn't matter? As if what we have was just been my way of getting the most mind-blowing sex I have ever wanted and craved?" cried Hawke, finally gathering her emotions before smiling reassuringly at him, "Te amo, Fenris. It is you who I am in love with, although your body is a very nice plus."
Fenris smirked before speaking in that low tone he knew made Hawke weak at the knees, "I'm glad my body pleases you in such ways, both to look at and pleasure you."
Hawke instantly crashed her lips against his in a powerful, passionate kiss. She grabbed the collar of his shirt as their tongues delved into the depths of each other's mouths, both fighting for dominance as quiet moans escaped the pair of them. When they finally parted, Fenris opened his eyes to see Hawke staring at his with a look he had only seen from her once before; it was the look that melted his heart in an instant, crumbled down all of his walls and it was full of nothing but love and respect.
For him.
Fenris cupped Hawke's face in his hands, his thumbs lovingly caressing her cheeks, "My home is wherever you and Winter are, and even if it leads us to the depths of the Deep Roads, I couldn't care less."
Fenris' completely unexpected confession caused Hawke's heart to soar into the heavens. She didn't know whether to smile, to laugh in pure happiness, to cry tears of absolute bliss. Her emotions came out all at once and she pressed her forehead against her lover's, her lips kissing his feverishly with tears pouring down her cheeks. Fenris clung onto Hawke as he deepened the kiss, gently biting down on her bottom lip.
"Look at the state you have put me in, you stupid elf," Hawke chuckled as their lips finally parted, wiping her tears before playfully thumping his chest.
