Marceline wandered into the dark alley, her curiousity once again getting the better of her. It was almost surreal, the harsh shadows grabbing her attention and drawing her in, further into the shadows. She let out a shakey breath, worried that she might be caught, before carrying on. She'd been walking back from school, trying to get home before Marshall went out looking for her again, but the night seemed to overtake the day and quickly after Marceline left the building it was dark and silent.
The walls were grimey and the floor was damp from the storm that had only just subsided, leaving behind a few drizzles of rain. Marceline looked over her shoulder, the strange feeling she was being watched nagging at the back of her mind.
As soon as she looked forwards however, she was met with a small figure of a girl at the end of the alleyway. Marceline halted, surprised at the sudden appearance.
"Are you okay?" She asked shakily, squinting into the shadows.
"Are you okay, Ahriman?" A voice whispered from beside her. "You are an Angel now afterall, the complete opposite of what your body wants."
"H-How do you know my name?"
"How did you get here?" Marceline blinked, unsure of how to answer the question offered to her.
"I don't know." The figure moved, shifted as the wind picked up. Almost as if it were merely a page in a book, flickering about wildly in the breeze.
"I'm not a normal human like you think I am. I am here for Charlie McQueen, the girl in our class."
"Our? You go to my school?" Marceline frowned, starting forwards towards the strange shadow but soon stopped when she saw the two red glowing eyes and manic grin on her face. Jo. The thought boomed in her mind, echoing out into the cold night with a small gasp.
"Help me," Came the innocent plea. "Please Marceline, help me." She sounded normal again now, a hint of white glistening in the dark red. Her grin faded into a sad smile.
"What are you?"
"Bring me Charlie McQueen. I will repay you with information." And with that, she was gone. She dissapeared into the wind, the shadows lifting like fog around her. Marceline found herself able to back away from the alley way, her eyes wide and mouth open in an attempt to cry out for help, for safety. Something cold ran throughout her body, something that seemed to suck all the happiness out of her soul.
My stomach lurched as I walked into the house, my eyes following the large trail of blood from the living room into the kitchen.
"Dad?" I called out. "Dad, what the fuck is this?" A small clatter sounded from the kitchen as I stepped forwards, trying not to get my shoes in the puddle of blood.
As I drew nearer to the kitchen door, I braced myself for what was behind it.
What i wasnt prepared for was seeing Hudson standing over my step mothers body, the pan in his left hand raised. He turned to me, covered in blood, and smiled apologeticly.
"This uh, This isn't what it looks like."
"It looks like you just killed your wife." I spat, trying not to look down at the dismantled corpse.
"Okay, so maybe it is what it looks like. But i swear it wasn't supposed to end up like this, She came home and we-"
"We?" I turned to see my real mother sat in one of the chairs, blood splattered slightly over her pale face. "You were the one that decided to murder her!" She shrieked.
"I was simply trying to get her off our tail, she didnt need to know that i'm converting so I simply killed her."
"Both of you just shut up. Do you want the whole fucking town to know what you've done?"
"It was him!"
"You're a witness!"
"And now you are too Marshall," I sighed and finally let my eyes flicker to the dead body.
"Oh my god, just get rid of it before Marceline comes home."
"What the fuck?!" As if on cue, my sister stormed into the kitchen, mouth open and brows furrowed in utter confusion. Then she saw the body and looked up at Hudson, then me, then finally mum.
"Hey sweetie," Lucy sang, eyes ligting up at the sight of her daughter. "What would you like for lunch?"
"Bonnibel." I quickly replied with a smirk. "Am I right sis?"
"Shut up, ass hat."
"Who's Bonnibel?" She asked quietly. Marceline blushed slightly and looked around the room, ovbiously uncomfertable with the question.
"My girlfriend."
"Oh wonderful, why don't you bring her round for tea?"
"No."
"No." I blinked, unaware of how in sync me and my sister both were, before going back to glaring at the man infront of me.
"Fine. Now help me clean this mess up or I'll bring her round myself." Marceline paled, mouth opening slightly before she reluctantly nodded.
"You and that Emmett boy are close?" Charlies head snapped up off of the new desk she had bought, spinning around on her chair and swiftly grabbing her knife from its hidden place underneath it. "There's no need to be scared." Jo whispered. Jo. Why was Jo here?
"Yeah well, you broke into my house."
"I simply climbed in through the open window." Charlie blinked. "Answer my question. You and Emmett are close?"
"Uh, sure. Yeah we're okay." The girl tilted her head, frowning as she stared at her.
"You like him."
"... A bit, yeah." Charlie swallowed and waited for the other girl to respond, but instead she just looked around the room, now tidy and back to normal from Eros' rampage. "Why are you here?"
"Your cute." The younger girls mouth dropped open when she saw a tear slowly roll down Jo's cheek.
"You like me like i like Emmett?" A nod. "That's why you came here? To... Tell me."
"Yes, but it seems your heart already belongs to somebody else." The knife that was still in her hand dropped to the floor with a small clang.
"My heart belongs to no one,"
"If that's what you want to believe." It's what I know.
"You've only known me for a day."
"You've known Emmett for a week," She shot back, eyes filled with anger. "How is this any different?" Because I can feel it.
"I'm not saying it is, i'm just saying that there are plenty of other people at our school that you could have a crush on and you choose me?"
"Yes, I suppose it's funny isnt it? Me falling in love with an Angel, Cupid no less, when she's falling for one of her own kind."
"Ex Angel." Charlie corrected automatically before realising what the girl in front of her had said. "Emmetts An... Angel?"
"Yes." Traitor, every last one of them.
"Fuck him." She spat, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. "I hate him."
"This is what it feels like to have your heart broken, I'm happy you share the same pain as me now." And with that, Jo turned and clambered out of the window. Charlie sat alone, the necklace around her neck shattering and scattering out on to the floor. She stood, lurched forward in an attempt to follow Jo, before collapsing onto the ground.
And everything went black.
