Down a highway drove a black Nissan Altima in which Ben and Gwen were seated in. A week had passed since the incident with Kevin in which Ben had gotten his driver's license and the two paid a visit to their old friend Cooper. Being a powerful Technopath Cooper had the ability to manipulate mentally merge with and control electronic devices which led to the creation of the sweet ride to which Ben dubbed Sheila.

"If you found this message you're probably in pretty deep. There's not a lot I can tell you right now, not enough time but I must caution you to avoid doing this alone. By now you're probably meeting some of the Plumber's kids, but you need to find more."

His mind kept drifting back to the other message Max had left behind.

"Ben, Ben, Ben," Gwen repeated, each word spoken with a varying intonation. "You ever notice if you say a word enough times it loses its meaning?"

She leaned forward, waiting for a reaction. When Ben didn't say a word, she took this as a signal to continue, "Like when a concerned girlfriend is worried that her boyfriend might not be paying attention and he's supposed to be the one driving."

Her lips were curved into a frown, arms folded stubbornly across her chest. She wasn't angry at Ben inasmuch as she was frustrated that he wasn't letting her in. They were supposed to be partners yet everything she thought she made progress he seemed to retreat into his own thoughts about the situation without consulting her.

"I'm sorry, I'm doing It again aren't I?"

Gwen was caught off guard for a moment, but didn't falter. "The fact you keep worrying me like this is not good for my nerves."

The sound of blaring horns and cars skidding drew their attention to what was occurring up ahead. The two of them opened their cars and caught sight of a section of the freeway began to crumble indicating that something must have happened to the overhead bridge's support column.

Traffic had come to a screeching halt. Moving to the side Ben could make out the outline of an unconscious body of an overturned truck down before, unaware of the crumbling danger above him. The drivers and riders screamed as they felt the bridge beneath their car's tires give way. Without wasting time, the Tennysons jumped into action. "Make a way for them to get down I'll act as support." Ben shouted to Gwen as he began going through the dial.

"Trix I'm going to need something that can hold a freeway section."

"The Vaxasaurian is the most optical choice for this situation. The upper limits of this species strength lifting feats has been calculated to be twenty thousand tons with the ability to grow up to sixty feet in height making it the optical choice to change into."

With that the Omnitrix showed an icon of the Dinosaur alien. Leaping over the side of the bridge Ben changed into the Vaxasaurian landing on the road below causing foot shaped indents from his landing. Ignoring the screams of terror he raced to under the bridge and began growing in size. Once he was just under the bridge in terms of height he stretched out his arms using his shoulders and arms to keep the crumbling bridge maintained. Using her mana Gwen created a series of platforms and began directing the people to safety.

Ever since the ever growing rumors of strange incidents that occurred during the summer last year along with the reveal of aliens herding people to safety was much easier as they tended to freak out less as the knowledge of not being the only ones out there allow members of the populous to adjust to the strange occurrences to a slight degree.

That didn't mean by mass they still didn't panic or such, but it was easier when they weren't asking who they were or how they were doing what they were doing when the Tennysons were occupied by getting civilians out of harm's way. In the distance Gwen made out the form of a teenage girl who was stumbling into the middle of the road of an incoming vehicle. "No!" Gwen cried out as she realized they were too far away to reach her in time.

Without warning something or someone had swooped in and saved her. The floating figure was practically radiating in gold with flaxen hair.

The last of the civilians on the bridge was let down meaning Ben could return to his human form.

The blonde new-comer approached the duo, smile radiating nothing but gratitude. "Whoever you guys are, whatever you are, thanks." He began. "Something strange has been happening to the girl's at our school lately."

"You shouldn't sell yourself short; after all you did your share of saving too. If anything we just happened to be in the neighborhood." Ben replied before noting the familiarly shaped buckle the young man wore. "You've got a Plumber's badge!"

The blonde glanced down at the aforementioned object and beamed in pride, "Yeah my dad gave it to me. You guys know about the Plumbers?"

"We have ties to the Plumbers as well," Ben spoke, retrieving the device from his pants pocket as if to prove the truth in his words.

"I'm Ben, and this is Gwen."

"Wait, Ben as in Ben Tennyson?" A golden brow cocked in curiosity before recognition dawned on his features, "I am a huge fan of yours! I heard you disappeared. I'm Mike Morningstar." He introduced, shaking the hand of the brunette with the enthusiasm as one who had just met their idol.

Releasing his hold on Ben, Mike turned towards Gwen to which when he took Gwen's hand into his own that sparks flew, literally. The instant their skin touched, energy crackled in the air until they broke contact.

"Oh," Gwen gasped softly as she pulled away. The sensation didn't hurt in the least but it was the strange thrill that shot up her spine that made it so unnerving.

"Wow, that's never happened before," Mike stated as he stared at the young woman's hand. He sounded confused though not upset, if any he even seemed intrigued.

Gwen was the first to offer her opinion on the matter. "Maybe it's because we both have powers?"

Mike looked thoughtful before giving her a disarming smile, "That's a theory." It could certainly just be a feedback or a clash of their energy-based abilities, but Mike had felt something else and was hoping there was more to it than just simply that.

If it was, the blonde assumed he'd be flat on his back or gotten decked for being too friendly with Gwen. At least that was how Mike understood things. He turns to Ben, "Anyway, I should see that Trina makes it home safely. But after that, why don't we meet up at my place and talk?"

"Sure," Ben grinned, liking the idea of finally recruiting someone for the team.

"Sounds good." Gwen agreed, genuinely looking forward to getting to know the blond.

Mike's "place" as it turns out, was a large estate guarded by tall walls and heavy, grilled gates with perfectly manicured lawns, a topiary zoo and a fountain at the main door, essentially the home of someone who was from money.

Mike was in the midst of explaining that his mother and her new husband lived in the main house and left him to his devices.

The spacious interior contained computers and monitors and screens, police scans, radio waves, even intergalactic reports were broadcast. Maps and precisely scaled three-dimensional models were projected in mid-air. It looked like something out of a super-hero comic book.

"This is quite the collection of gear." Ben noted, taking in the assortment of equipment.

"It belonged to my dad. I brought most of them over from his headquarters." He seemed to beam with pride. "I could take there later if you want."

Ben turned to Gwen who nodded. "Looks like we're in."

Mike explained the gear, how they were set up and what their functions were.

"So you keep an eye on things with this stuff and you use your powers to help people. You're like your neighborhood's very own superhero." Gwen noted.

"Superhero? No, it just comes with the badge." Mike waved in dismissal.

I see, I have to say Mike I'm pretty impressed by what I've seen so far which is why I'm extending this invitation to you. What do you think about joining our team?

The invitation came as quite a surprise to Mike and it was evident on his face.

"Wow, I just, wow. That's sudden." He was stunned say for sure.

"Are you sure Ben?" Gwen asked, wondering if he was moving too fast inviting Michael like that.

"He has the powers, the gear, and the knowledge its just a matter of who he really is." Ben reasoned. "Like for instance, I want to know the true nature of your powers. There's more to them then you've told us." The expression on Mike's face was a mix of alarm and surprise. "If you heard of me then you know about one of my enemies Kevin E. Levin."

Morning Star had indeed heard of the criminal. He had always dismissed those like Kevin as brutish thugs who had no sophistication behind their methods.

"The way you and Gwen reacted to each other, it reminded me of his ability drain energy like he did from my Omnitrix. For a moment I almost accepted Gwen's theory when I remembered we've had contact with others in the past with power, similar to Gwen's and otherwise and she never had that sort of a reaction which leads me to believe it was from your end. You seem like a decent guy Mike, which is why I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, but if you try to lie to me and the nature of your power is harmful to others than I will have to do something about it."

Mike seemed hesitant; no one else knew the true nature of his powers, not even his own mother and certainly not his stepfather. He had been rather foolish in his desire to test his theory of that spark that occurred when he shook Gwen's hand that he was putting himself in a complicated position and if half the stories he heard about Ben Tennyson was true he had no choice but to comply.

"It appears you live up to the hype." He began with a wan smile, "Those who know of my powers thank its mere energy displacement like shooting rays and flying but they're a side effect of my true ability."

He held out his hands, palms faced upwards to reveal what seemed to be an ordinary pam. Slowly but surely thinly faint, matching scars appear: A line, cut from the tip of his wrist and ending just below his middle finger. But the flesh on his hands began to pull apart, the line opening, widening into twin gaping mouths with jagged teeth. "You two are the first to hear the true nature of my power. The power to siphon energy from living beings to which I use to empower myself to gain the ability to fly and shoot energy blasts. So tell me Ben, now that you know my dark secret what do you intend to do?" The mouths sealed shut as he closes the flesh back over them.

"To be honest that's far from the strangest thing I've seen. This also means what happened with that Trina girl…"

Michael had looked regretful upon mentioning the girl's name. "My desire to feed strikes at me like a homeless vagabond when he sees a meal. The incident with Trina was without a doubt a regretful result of my over indulging. Would you still invite me to your team even knowing that I would be useless to you without feeding?"

"While the nature of your power isn't something I'm happy about, you could still be more useful as an ally. I rather leave here today with a possible ally then a new enemy, I have enough of those."

"Would you consider it if I offer some of my mana as a payment of sorts?" Gwen suggested, having gone over the pros and cons of having Morningstar join them and as Ben noted, the last thing they needed right now was to make a new enemy.

Mike turned away from them, as if to contemplate the offer but in reality was hiding the smirk on his face. "That is a rather tempting offer. You two have given me a lot to think about. If you're willing to come back in a week I will have an answer for you then."

"Very well then, we'll see you then." Ben replied as Mike escorted them to the estate gates. Bidding their good byes Ben drove out of there. "You okay Gwen?" he asked upon noticing the red-head was noticeably quiet.

"I keep…I keep thinking about to that Trina girl. To about how she seemed to be in a daze and that she could have gotten herself killed. I don't think Morningstar told us everything."

"I know," he admitted, "…but I rather keep him right where we can see him then having to worry about what he might do when we're looking for Grandpa and besides, we might be able to sway him over to our side, if not the very least this temporary alliance could prove rather useful."

"I sure hope you're right." Gwen replied while hoping they didn't make a mistake.
