It's been a while since they been in this place. It brought back memories. Max's favorite old fishing hole. The two of them were currently sitting on the bank as they peacefully fished. Max was supposed to be meeting them there, but something had come up so that left Ben and Gwen to enjoy their day.

"You know, Grandpa once brought me here when I was five and I caught a teeny tiny fish but he wanted me to release it."

"I'm guessing you fought for it?"

"Yeah," Gwen nodded, "It was my fish you know, but in the end he convinced me to come back when it was bigger."

"You know, did the secret place always get this much traffic?" Ben asked Gwen, watching as a cloaked figure dropped something on the base of the tree not far from them and upon closer observation, it was a strange rose-like flower.

"Have you ever seen a flower like that Ben?"

"No, I haven't. Hey! Excuse me, you over there in the cloak!"

Seeing that they grabbed her attention, the teens jumped down from the rock and made their way towards the cloak figure who chuckled at them before walking around the tree and by the time the group reached, they found nothing there, much to their shock and wonder.

The following evening they were out on a stake out. "I'll be right back." Gwen needed to use the restroom.

Not too long after Gwen left Ben caught sight of the cloaked figure. Exiting the car he gave chase as he began chasing after them. It looked like no matter how fast he was, the figure was faster and was apparently having fun at his expense however in the end though, the main battle was fought on land.

Later to be revealed as a female after her hood came off. "You're getting in my way kid. Now go along and stop getting in my way." She stated with a smirk as each of her hand held a transparent opaque sphere the size of a basketball.

"Well if that's how you want to play." Tossing a plumber concussion bomb Ben attempted to blast the old woman off her feet. Once the debris and dust clear he was surprised to see a pink shield had shielded her from the attack.

That pink shield was followed by a pink beam of energy hitting the female on her side during said brief surprise.

"Hey you're right on time." he turned towards Gwen who had her own opaque sphere surrounding her right palm.

"Five minutes sweetie." Gwen answered, "Five minutes and trouble has already found you." Gwen once more continued her attack only for the old woman to easily absorbed them within a small sphere.

"Incredible," The old lady gasped, at Gwen ignoring Ben altogether.

"Gwen, her power, is just like yours. Grandpa Max never mentioned to you that he knew someone like that right?"

"Max? How do you know Max?"

"Max Tennyson?" Gwen asked. "He's our grandfather."

"Did you say Max is your grandfather?" the lady asked, walking towards the teenagers, stopping in front of Gwen and looking down at her with a smile on her face and at the redhead's nod, she grew excited, "Kiddo!" she hugged Gwen tightly realizing who she was standing in front of. "Gwendolyn, I'm Verdona, let's talk again soon." Her eyes glowed pink as she said that before she disappeared in a pink flash much to the shock and awe of those around them.

"Ben, I think we just found our grandmother."

That evening Gwen decided to confront her parents about what she learned."Dad, we need to talk."

"In your room?" Gwen's father gasped in surprise looking down at his daughter, "I'm honored; when was the last time you let me in here?"

Gwen went to shut her room door as he asked that before walking over to her study table, "I've been keeping a big secret from you," She started avoiding her father's eyes as she opened her drawer from her table and her father saw the book of magic placed in there and unknown to her, he was starting to get nervous in the inside. "Magic powers."

He smiled but inside he was crying at the unfairness of it all, "So you're what? Some kind of wizard in training?" he brought out his hands from his pockets, "Come on Gwen, there's no such thing."

"But, there's more." Gwen raised her palm to her chest and faced it to her father, "Are you ready?" with a nod of her head, her entire palm was covered in an opaque sphere before she manipulated the energy around her father who watched in shock and resignation as it moved to close the drawer.

"That's a big secret," Mr Tennyson moaned, holding his head in pain at the headache he knew this would cause and listened as his daughter continued.

"I met grandma Verdona today." Gwen explained, expecting her father to do… anything.

"I was afraid this would happen, but you never showed any signs of having any powers." He looked at the image of a 10 year old Gwen with her family and a separate one where she was with a 10 year old Ben, "Your mother and I thought we were in the clear."

"Magic runs in the family?" Gwen asked in surprise before exclaiming in excitement, "I knew it!"

"Honey, there really is no such thing as Magic," Mr Tennyson explained, calming his daughter down, "You're grandmother is an alien."

Regardless of what her father believed and her grandmother being an alien, Magic did in fact exist. Charmcaster and Hex were proof of that.

"I'm overloading with questions," Gwen shook her head as she said that, "but first," She looked towards her opened window, "Come on out Ben, you might as well come in."

Ben easily hoisted himself in through the window.

"Hey Uncle Frank," Ben greeted with a wave.

Gwen cleared her throat, "So, here's the thing," She started, "My Grandma who I never knew, wants something from me but I don't know what."

"Let's ask her." Frank responded looking at Gwen before looking at a corner where he suspected his mother to be hiding, "Your cousin wasn't the only one eavesdropping on people, isn't that right, Mom?"

"You always could tell when I was watching baby," Verdona's voice echoed all over the room before she appeared in a pink flash in her cloak, "I had hope that you had the spark, but, no such luck."

With a flick of her wrist, the group of four were all teleported to the downstairs living room much to the surprise of Gwen's mother who dropped the glass she was holding before noticing whom appeared, "Verdona, what a surprise." She greeted sarcastically before bending to pick up the glass that dropped and broke but as it turns out, she didn't need to, because the scattered shards were surrounded in a pink aura before they reassembled recreating the broken glass easily, much to the awe of Gwen.

"Tea dearie," Verdona pulled down her hood, "And something sweet, for the kids."

Minutes later, a plate of cookies and tea sat on the dining table and Verdona accepted a cup of tea from her daughter-in-law.

"It's been a while, mom."

"I suppose," Verdona said, "In human time." She looked at Gwen with a smile on her face from where she sat on the dining table, "Sweetie, your grandmother is an Anodite, and so are you."

"What's an Anodite?"

"Anodites are a race of free spirits with powers humans can barely comprehend." Verdona explained, "And we don't often mess in the affairs of just plain folks, but I fell deeply in love with Max Tennyson."

"Well if that was the case why did you have to leave?" Ben wondered aloud.

"Well after the kids were grown, I needed to reconnect with my Anodite Heritage, and Max was busy saving the universe with the plumbers."

"I thought you didn't know about that." Frank stated to his mother who looked at her tea cup as the tea steamed in front of her.

"Yes, he didn't want me to worry," Verdona replied, "Sweet man, we had many Good years, but we grew apart. Even a fella with as much Mana as Max is just a physical being." Verdona sighed in remembrance before looking at Gwen once more, "Honestly, I'm surprised you're not one of us. Whatever power is flowing through you its rich with mana. I sensed it yesterday and I sense it now."

Ben's eyes widened in surprise. So she knew.

"So what brought you here?"

"Max's near death experience was big news; it even reached my planet." Verdona explained, "By the way," she turned to Ben here who suddenly looked nervous again, "I can't thank you enough for what you did for him; to gave him more years on the planet despite how reckless such an action may have been."

"He's my family I couldn't stand by and do nothing."

"Shag Carpeting," Verdona hummed as she was spinning around under a disco light that was flashing through different colors while listening to the sound track that echoed in the room, "Why do the most backward species make the best music?"

"Don't you ever complain about my Aunt Joyce again." Mrs Tennyson whispered to Frank who just glanced at her trying so much to ignore the way his mother was acting in front of him and his wife.

"Cheer up Junior," Verdona ignored her daughter-in-law, "You didn't have the spark: there was nothing I could teach you."

"You taught me a lot mom," Frank protested lightly, "You and dad both."

"You know what I mean sweetie."

"Mom," Frank spoke suddenly, "If you can give Gwen an opportunity that we can't, we won't hold her back."

"Thank you so much for the offer," Speak of the devil and he, or in this case, she, would answer, "But, I'll just settle for being a gifted human. I want to stay here with my friends."

Verdona snapped her fingers as she finished listening to her granddaughter speak and like magic, the disco ball and the sound track disappeared. "But you don't even know what you really are Kiddo," She lightly protested before smiling a bit, "We belong in Anodine among our kind," she had a serious look on her face, "Let me show you."

Verdona glow pink, flooding the entire room with her aura and as the pink died down, they were shocked to see what happened next.

A being made out of pure energy peeled out of the old lady skin that Verdona previously had and it disgusted some people around her.

"So that's how she always looked so good."

"See," Verdona ignored her daughter-in-law, "Just a disguise. *motioning to her human skin* this is what it means to be an Anodite."

"Whoa!"

"Mature Anodite's are pure energy," Verdona lectured, "We draw life from the Mana around us, and from what I've seen, you're just too young to make up your own mind; let me help you."

"I don't like where this is going." Ben murmured to Gwen who ignored him, listening, as her grandmother spoke further.

"I'll destroy your body and free the Anodite inside," Verdona offered, "It'll be fun, and you'll be able to think, much more clearly."

"No grandmother, I will not let you destroy my body for your own reasons."

"How do you know whether you like something if you don't try it?" Verdona coaxed, trying to get through Gwen's defenses.

"Verdona, she said no." Ben declared, stepping in front of her.

"Another dance?" She directed the question to Ben seeing his stance against her option, "Okay, but just this once."

The mana flared had forced Ben and Gwen out of the house, breaking a section of the wall in the process.

Gwen instantly rushed to her boyfriend's side, checking if she was okay before snapping up at her grandmother's giggle as said woman appeared behind her.

"Now this is what I call a party." Verdona grinned before throwing more Mana beams at the downed teenagers but Gwen, thinking fast, erupted a shield protecting her and her friends from any damages before said teen created pink platforms to run on as she approached her grandmother who was flying on the air.

She threw a pink ball at Mana that was easily deflected back at her by her grandmother's tentacle like pink hair and as Ben approached her, she glanced at him.

Reading her mind, he began hurling stream of air palm blasts at the same time Gwen fired her energy, at the old lady and much to their annoyance, it wasn't having an effect on her as the pair of attacks hit her but then the large gravel thrown at her gave them the opening to amp their attacks sending her flying back some distance.

She once more recovered, seemingly unharmed by the attack. Ben turned up his speed only to be surprised that she out speed him and countered him with a mana bolt. 'She can move faster than Hypersonic+ speeds?' This was going to prove to be a dangerous fight if she had that level of speed and was just toying around.

To think he would have to be pushed into using Sage Mode? Thanks to relying more on the Omnitrix the shifter didn't have as much battle experience as he would have liked using the mode, but he didn't want to go into an alien form that would be easy pickings for the anodite.

Activating the accelerator boots he dashed forward with incredible speed.

Using her hair like tentacles they shot out, slashing at Ben who was barely dodging her attacks.

"I think its time we show grandma we're not left handed." Ben told Gwen who nodded.

With that Ben had disappeared in thin air. Verdona was stunned when Ben's signature had vanished only to reappear just seconds before he launched an attack using disruptor gloves to which she erected a barrier to block. He wasted no time in disappearing again, this time attacking from her right. Once more once the attack connected he disappeared only to appear on her left with a kick.

He appeared in front of her turning the gloves up to full power and unlike his other attacks it shredded through her barrier. Her taking the fight like a joke was now biting her in the ass.

His follow up was countered as a pulse of mana energy had sent Ben flying back to Gwen.

"Good effort children," Verdona's voice echoed from the barrier she had generated, "But you're all a millennia to young before you can get one up on this old gal."

As she said that, there was as sudden flash of pink light and everything around them started to leak out Mana was being drawn from the atmosphere.

Ben and Gwen showed a knowing look as they joined hands. A shroud of bright began to envelop them both as Gwen's pink aura darkened to a violet hue. Her mana began to spike to levels far beyond anything she could generate herself.

"Now let's see you handle this."

The oval shaped attack Verdona fired was not only promptly stopped by the blast her granddaughter fired, but it had completely incinerated the attack and blasted Verdona straight out of the sky. The sound of her body hitting the pavement produced a crunching sound and caused a small crater. It took her a few seconds to recover and realize what happened. "That actually…hurt." It had been years the last time she fought someone capable of hurting her. Anodites were known for their great mana capacities and while it may have been someone with anodite heritage that launched the attack, this level of power wasn't something a fledgling should be capable of let alone one in a physical body.

"Grandma Verdona please understand I cannot and will not go with you. I have a life here. I have a family. I have friends. The people I love are here." She sent Ben a look who nodded and smiled. "I am not willing to give that up. I'm not going anywhere."

It seemed Gwen's words finally got through to her. "No…no I suppose you're not."

Reluctant Verdona had decided to relent on trying to force Gwen go to the relief of everyone. Saying a quick goodbye to the Tennyson clan she had left just as quickly as she had arrived.

'Wrecks the house and doesn't even offer to fix it up.' Natalie was of course grumbling over the damage done to the house, she loved her husband, but his side of the family was a stark contrast with her straight laced family.

"I'll have it fixed up right in a jiffy Auntie." Ben had volunteered. Carpentry was of course one of the things he had learned as vast amounts of property damage was of course something he dealt with thanks to his double life as a super hero. That and the money he had won against that lawsuit against that super hero buddies whatever show was either in the bank, in investments, or chunks of it was used to pay for whenever he himself was personally responsible for the property damage during his fights.

"Thank you Ben." The two of them had come a long way since Natalie's initial rejection between the relationship her daughter and Ben. One might even mistake that they were becoming good friends. Then again seeing the blond help knock Verdona down a peg probably earned him some brownie points.

Once the situation had calmed down Carl and Sandra had left for home, after Ben urged to be left behind because he felt Gwen would need him to work through her emotions after the revelation of her heritage. Carl and Sandra, the latter in particular being more free spirited understood with Frank and Natalie being a bit more reluctant and only agreed if Gwen's door stayed opened when he was in there and that he slept on the couch.

Ben understood and respected that, knowing he'd be a hypocrite considering that one mission he led where he had his daughter room with her female team mate over her fiancé during a peace negotiation mission that led him going to another country. No parent wanted to think about their children getting up to funny businesses.

So he waited in Gwen's room until the redhead finally showed up and he nearly did a double take. She was wearing a black shape-wear slip dress. "You're such a pervert."

"I didn't even say anything." Ben responded as a knowing smirk formed on the redhead's face as she took a seat on the bed.

"You were thinking it."

"Only thing I can do lest I occur the wrath of your parents." He said as he placed his hand over Gwen's, gently stroking her hand. "You okay?"

Gwen didn't say anything; she simply rested her head on Ben's shoulder. With that he simply wrapped an arm around her and held her. In time it was all going to be okay.
