Chapter 57
Asuma's Favorite
Kakashi had a lot on his mind when he had gotten home that night. When he came in he went straight over to Kurenai and gave her a kiss. "How was your day." He asked her.
"It was fine," she replied. Normally she gave Kakashi more details but after her visit today she didn't think she should go in depth just yet. "Dinner just got done," she said as she walked into the kitchen to bring him a plate.
Since Kurenai and him had gotten together his life had changed quite a bit. He went from being a bachelor to having a family almost overnight. He loved his new life and was far less lonely, and Kurenai shared his interests and became his closest friend. He noticed that she wasn't as talkative tonight as she usually was and wondered if something was on her mind.
She set dinner down at the table and sat down next to him to eat. He rubbed his hand across the back of her shoulders, "everything going okay," he asked.
She really wanted her relationship with Kakshi to work out and didn't like the idea of keeping secrets from him. She knew Shikamaru had his reasons for sharing their ideas with her and agreed with them, but had decided after they left that she would tell Kakashi about their visit.
"Yeah," she replied, "I have something to talk to you about…" she broke off.
"Is it about the wedding?" He asked. He hadn't helped very much in the planning and thought that might have upset her.
"No, it's about Shikamaru." She began. By the look on Kakashi's face she could see that Shikamaru had visited him, so Kakashi might be expecting what she was going to say. "So you've seen them then." She asked.
"I see you have too." He smiled. Shikamaru really was the best strategist in the shinobi world. If nothing, he would be able to reach Kakashi through Kurenai, his heart became his only weakness.
"Please don't be angry with him Kakashi, but I was them outside your office this afternoon and invited them over. He and Temari explained their situation and even though everyone knows about the rule, they are right, it is a different world now. You must have seen that they are a perfect match for each other, and Temari, she's adorable." Kurenai's eyes were wide, staring at Kakashi and expecting some response.
"They are, I've know they are a match probably since they have, when Temari didn't kill him after Orochimaru..." He sounded deep in thought as he answered her back. "And they've been holding hands all over the village." He replied.
"Are you going to punish him," She asked, concerned.
"Honestly, I'm closer to asking him to be my advisor. I'm always amazed by Shikamaru and how resourceful he is." Kakashi smiled at her and her look of concern faded to one of content.
"He has a special place in my heart Kakashi," she reminded him.
"I can't blame you, it's no wonder he was Asuma's favorite." He said as he wrapped his arms around her.
I apologize that this is the shortest chapter in the whole story, but I wanted to focus my energy back on the main people. Hopefully you understand. :)
