Chapter 59
Hinata and Naruto
Naruto woke up early again so that he could make it to breakfast with the Hyuga family. He felt that having a relationship with Hinata's family helped him to be closer to Hinata. Being around them when she was gone showed him the traits of her personality through Hanabi and Lord Hiashi and in turn they became sort of a support network as well.
He quickly got ready as he did every morning and headed over to Hinata's. When he got there he knocked on the door and Lord Hiashi answered.
"Come on in Naruto," he said as he held open the door.
"Good morning Lord Hiashi," Naruto replied. He could hear Hinata and Hanabi in the kitchen.
It was hard for him to believe that he was able to bring Hinata back from the Sand when he thought he might have lost her forever. He leaned against the doorway to the kitchen and just looked at Hinata. He wondered why he hadn't noticed how pretty she was years ago. When she talked to her sister she had a big smile on her face as they told each other jokes back and forth. She hadn't noticed Naruto looking at her until her dad had walked back into the kitchen.
"Oh, Naruto," She smiled as she said his name and her face lit up.
"You can come sit down you know," Hanabi offered.
"Thanks Hanabi," he said as he sat down next to Hinata. "Hi Hinata," he said as he looked over at her.
Lord Hiashi placed the food on the table and sat down to join.
"So, Hinata tells me you two have a big day today," Lord Hiashi began to ask Naruto.
"If you aren't already busy…" Hinata asked.
"I can't wait!" Naruto replied. Although he liked what he did to help her in the garden, it wasn't exactly his thing and he was happy to be doing something different with her. "I was hoping we could spend the day together." He added.
If Naruto had been any other boy, her father wouldn't have let Hinata even leave the house with him. But he trusted that Naruto would keep his daughter safe, and he trusted that Naruto liked her for the right reasons. He could also see the change in his daughter when Naruto was around, and although he liked it, it took some getting used to. It was still difficult getting used to the idea that his daughter was old enough to date.
"Before you came in Hanabi was filling me in on things I missed while I was away. Is it true about Kakashi and Kurenai?" She asked him. She wanted to go visit Kurenai and bring Naruto so she could get to know him better. After all, Kurenai did encourage her to pursue Naruto.
"It's true, believe it. I saw it with my own eyes! And they're pretty happy together." He added.
"With your own eyes…what do you mean Naruto?" She asked.
He knew the answer might lead to more questions, so he prepared to tell her the story if she wanted to hear it. "The short version is that I woke them up in the middle of the night after you left, so technically I've been to their apartment." He replied as he adjusted in his chair.
"You really woke the Hokage up in the middle of the night?" Hanabi asked, realizing that Naruto truly had no boundaries.
"Maybe you could visit Kurenai today while you're out and apologize," Lord Hiashi offered.
"Oh, well Kurenai wasn't upset with me, I think she was more worried that Kakashi hadn't mentioned that Hinata left in the first place." He added.
After this everyone was silent for a moment before Lord Hiashi spoke again.
"But you really should apologize to her," Lord Hiashi repeated.
Hinata looked over at Naruto and nodded her head. "Plus, it will be nice to see my Sensi again and talk about any plans for her wedding." Hinata smiled at him.
"Okay, I'll apologize," he said reluctantly. "Is Konahamaru still babysitting his nephew?" Naruto asked.
"Konahamru?" Hanabi asked as she started to blush.
"Yeah, the 3rd Hokages grandson, do you know him or something…" Naruto asked her.
"No," she said as she got up from the table, laid her dish in the water and started to clean it.
Naruto could tell from her blushing that she was lying, and he looked over at Hinata who smiled at him.
"You ready to go Naruto," she asked. She had eaten pretty quickly in the excitement to start her day.
"Sure," he replied "what's first on the list?" He asked her.
