Coming Closer
Chapter 3

"Carly, would it kill you to learn how a door works." Jason demanded as Sam under the distraction to slip out from under him and the couch and scurried over to the blonde, "Sam and I were in the middle of something important."

"It wasn't that important." Sam dismissed with a wave of her hand as she lead Carly to the other couch.

"Look this is one of those moments I need you to be my friend and not judge me." Carly started off as she moved her gaze to Jason.

"I don't judge, I just clean up the fall out." Jason protested.

"To be fair this is not my fault and if I had any choice I wouldn't do it."

"Carly, what happened? Are you in trouble?" Sam asked concerned as she sat down next to the blonde.

"I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time." Carly started to explain as the front door
swung open.

"Carly, I know this is not the way you planned to walk down the aisle again but we don't have time for you to talk about dresses." Sonny interrupted as he stood in the doorway.

"No! No! No!" Jason yelled as all the pieces came together, "Not going down that rabbit hole again." Jason declared as he stood up and walked towards the stairs.

"You haven't told them?" Sonny questioned as he glared at Carly.

"I was getting to that part." Carly stuttered as she ran to grab Jason's arm, "You are our best friends and we need your help."

"How many times have you been married? Not just counting to each other but to every other poor soul that gets involved."

"How many times have you been married?" Carly countered.
"Once."

"What happened?" Sam asked as she ignored the bickering pair as she moved towards Sonny.

"There was a dispute at the dock and Carly happened by."

"Why sort of dispute? It has to be something big to include a marriage of convenience."

"An enemy showed up and there was a conversation that ended with him dead. The only problem was a police officer showed up." Sonny started to explain.

"Okay so you said it was self-defense right?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, but it was a new detective on the force and he seemed it was just a little too convenient that I had a gun on me." Sonny frowned as he placed his hands in his pocket.

"So we have to be more careful."

"He was once in the FBI, I think he is going to be trouble." He remarked with a sigh, which caused Sam's eyes to grow wide, "Nothing is going to happen." Sonny promised as he pulled Sam to a hug.

"How many children were conceived before you walked down the aisle?" Carly smirked as she thought of a question she could win.

"Babe?" Jason asked as soon as he turned his attention to the other pair, "How bad it this really Sonny?"

"There is no case, it was self-defense." Sonny answered truthfully as he pulled away from Sam but not before he gave her a squeeze on the shoulder, "Carly and I need this marriage as a precaution. I think that this incident just happened to put us on this guy's radar."

"We need to circle the wagon." Jason remarked as Sam walked to his side and he pulled her towards him and placed a kiss on her forehead, "Which means we have a wedding to get to."

"We have a meeting at the Justice of the Peace, we just need witnesses."

"Do you think that this detective is going to buy you to just getting married on a whim?" Sam asked as she leaned against Jason's shoulder.

"Why not? We do have two kids together and have been know to-do crazy things like this before."

"Plus, if anyone asks we got a little carried away on out trip." Sonny offered.

"What trip?"

"When I told you Joss, Morgan and I were going to the Bahamas for the week, I might have forgotten to add Sonny to the equation."

"We are having a long overdue talk on the ride to the church." Sam muttered as she pulled Carly towards the door just as Michael came in, "Not going to ask why you are home late, so I don't except any from you. The kids are asleep and we'll be back in a few hours." Sam listed as she led the way to the car.

"My Dad and Carly?" Dante asked as he, Michael and Jason walked towards Kelly's.

"Yeah and I advise you don't ask question since this is their first marriage that you have been around for." Jason advised as he pushed Aria's strolled down the side walk. Sam had taken Aubree School shopping and had left the youngest with Jason.

"Daddy." Alex called as he stopped behind the three and looked at the window of the new pet shop.

"What's up Buddy?" Jason asked as he bent down to the boy's height.

Alex didn't say anything and just walked up to the window when a puppy jumped up and licked the window. Jason smiled as he watched the little boy's eyes light up as the Golden Retriever puppy jumped onto the glass. With a sigh he shook his head and looked at Alex, "Let's do this before I regret it." Jason declared as he pulled the door open.

"We're finally getting a dog?" Michael asked as if he was a child.

"Seems that way." Jason frowned as the teen pushed Aria into the store.

"Why are we here again?" Sam asked her sister as she held the door open for Aubree.

"Matt hates cats." Maxie explained as she pulled her purse higher on her arm.

"Still not an explanation."

"I happen to realize I love cats."
"You don't like cats, you said that they will kill you in your sleep and then eat you." Aubree recalled as she looked at the cats in the shelter.

"What are you teaching my kids?"

"The circle of life." Maxie laughed as she zeroed in on the fattest and hairiest cat Sam had ever seen.

"Can we look at the dogs?" Brie asked as she took her Sam's hand and lead her towards the dog room.

Sam followed Aubree down the row of dogs until they came to a man walking by with large black dog towards the back room. "Where is that one going Mommy?" Sam watched the man stop as soon as he heard Aubree's voice.

"Is there something wrong with that dog?" Sam asked as she glanced at the giant dog.

"No he is very friendly, great with kids but, he had been here for a while and people seem to want younger dogs."

"How old is he?"

"Five." The man answered with a frown as he patted the Newfoundland's head.

"Where is he going?" Brie repeated as she walked towards her mother and the man. Before Sam could stop her, she walked right up to the dog. The giant looked at her for a moment before he gave her a huge lick on the face.

"He is going with us." Sam finally answered, there was no way she could leave that dog behind not after it seems Aubree had made a connection to it. She had promised the Alex and Brie a dog after they moved into their new house, which had been months ago, "We want him." Sam told the man who nodded and said something about paperwork as he handed the leash to Sam.

"Why do you have a horse?" Maxie asked as she watched Sam come towards the main office.

"Bear, his name should be Bear." Brie clapped as she buried her head into his fur.

"Why are you buying a hairless cat?" Sam asked as she glanced into the crate that was in Maxie's hand.

"I don't need something that it going to ruin my clothes." Maxie scuffed as she looked wearily at the dog.

"They were going to put it to sleep." Sam muttered as she filled out the forms, "I didn't want to have to
explain that to a five year old."

"How are you going to explain this to Jason?"

"He suddenly wants another child so he gets one." Sam laughed, "He should be happy this one is already
potty trained unlike two we already have."

"I am so coming home with you." Maxie smiled as she thought of the Jason's reaction.
