Coming Closer

Chapter 7 – The Unknown

Sam carelessly tossed the mail on the table as she juggled Aria in one arm as she held the diaper bag and take out bag from Kelly's. Sam had spent the whole day at the park with the kids and the last thing she felt like doing was cooking. Sam placed her youngest down who immediately tottered over to the playroom that rested off of the living room.

Sam took a moment to flip through the mail and stopped when she came across something from the hospital DNA lab. That made Sam freeze for a moment, no good news ever came from that place and she had no idea why they would be sending something to the house. She opened it and quickly shoved it into her pocket once she heard her daughter's voice.

"Mommy." Aubree called as she followed her mother into the kitchen, "You always said that if we saw something you would want us to tell you." The young girl rambled as she looked down at her feet.

"Angel?" Sam asked as she turned to face her daughter.

"There was a man in the park." Brie stuttered as she moved closer to her mother, "He was sitting at the bench and was taking pictures."

"A man?" Sam asked as she kneeled down on the floor and pulled Brie into her arms.

"He was in the bushes by the slide." Aubree finished as she placed her head in her mother's hair, "Was he a bad man?"

"No, Angel. He was taking picture for a newspaper." Sam lied as pulled her close and placed a kiss on her head, "You know what I was thinking?" She asked as she changed the subject.

Brie pulled back to look her mother in the eye, "What?" Brie asked as she suddenly got a huge grin pm her face.

"I know that you don't really care for your dancing lessons." Sam started, she had entered Aubree in dance classes to get her involved in something outside their family and to meet new people, "I was thinking that maybe we could try horseback riding lessons." Sam finished with a smile.

"Really!" Brie squealed as she jumped back into her mom's arms, "Where Molly goes?" Sam nodded just as Jason came through the front door.

"What is going on here?" Jason asked as his smile grew at how happy his daughter looked.

"Mommy is signing me up for horseback riding lessons and no more dance." The five year old cheered as she ran into her Dad's arms.

"Mommy is the best." Jason smiled as he lifted his daughter into his arms and shot a wink at his wife, "Do you think you can do Daddy a huge favor?" Jason asked as he whispered the rest into the girl's ear.

Sam watched on as she started to pull the food out of the bag and place it on the counter as Jason came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, "Someone is less tense." Sam whispered as Jason placed a kiss on her shoulder.

"Yeah, well you were very helpful about that last night." Jason responded as he trailed kisses up to her hear, "This morning too." He whispered huskily as he pulled her tighter against his body.

"Well that seems to have become my job." Sam laughed as she tried to brush off his arms, "Being a stay at home Mom and dutiful wife."

"You do know that you are so much more than that." Jason demanded as he turned Sam to face him, "Do you want to go back to being a PI?" He asked as he rubbed his arms up and down hers.

"I am just having one of those days." Sam muttered, "Carly does need help at the hotel, with Jax being gone."

"You should take it. I never want you to feel like that's all you are to this family." Jason assured her as he placed a kiss on her forehead, "Though you are a very dutiful wife." He winked.

"You aren't too bad yourself, for an older man." Sam smirked as she turned back to face the counter.

"Four years older and we both know that doesn't slow me down." Jason scoffed as he grabbed her hips and brought her back to him, "I have a surprise for you." He added as tightened his hold on her.

"Jase I am in the middle of dinner, we can do this tonight." Sam dismissed as she grabbed the plates and turned to place them on the table.

"Please." Jason frowned, "The kids went through a lot of work to help with this." Jason explained as he gently pushed her towards the living room.

"Carly, why are you here?" Robin asked as the blonde stood in her doorway, "I have a lot to do before Patrick comes home."

"I need your help and am willing to pay you for it." Carly answered as she barged her way into the house, "Sam and I are best friends and since you two are sisters, which makes us friends."

"I will help you if you help me." Robin proposed as she walked into the living room where there were a whole bunch of bags spread across the ground.

"Help with what?" Carly asked as she looked at the mess.

"Babyproofing." Robin answered.

"Already? I mean you are not even showing yet."

"I watched a special on dangers in the home and here we are." Robin answered sheepishly.

"I am in. Watching Patrick try to use the toilet is going to be amazing." Carly laughed as she remember a similar incident with Sonny when Morgan was a baby.

"What is it you need from me?" Robin asked as she began to unload the bags.

"I need you to pee on a pregnancy test for me." Carly asked straight forwards, "I was just going to ask for your pee, but I figured that would be too weird."

"Right, because a positive pregnancy test is a normal thing to ask for." Robin shook her head, "Why not? I have done crazier things before, after all Maxie is my sister."

"That was easier than I thought it was."

"I aim to please. Plus, while you are here we can work on plan to deal with this detective." Robin mused as she turned to the blonde.

"Surprise." Alex and Aubree yelled as they held up a Happy Birthday sign and Aria held up a huge bouquet of flowers. Michael stood behind the three and held a large box.

"A little early aren't we?" Sam asked as she kneeled down and pulled the three into a huge hug.

"You know how impossible it is to surprise you." Michael smirked as Sam came to pull him into a hug.

"Plus, everyone else is already taking over. So I had to find some way to be romantic." Jason said at the same time.

"This is the best surprise ever." Sam smiled as she looked at Jason.

"You are still twenty nine though." Jason pointed out as he placed a box down on the table with drawings that the kids had made for her.

"For a month." Sam laughed as she saw Jason's serious face, "There is cake right." Sam asked.

"Of course, your parents are bring it over." Jason answered with a knowing look, "But, before they get her I want you to open this." Jason added as he handed the large box to his wife.

"What did you get me?" Sam asked excitedly as she took a seat on the couch and Alex climbed right up on to her lap.

"Open, Open." The toddler demanded as he looked up at his mother.

"Okay, Okay." Sam smiled as she pulled the paper back and opened the box and was silent once she saw the picture that rested inside, "Jase."

"Thirty is a big deal and that means you need a big gift." Jason smiled as he took a seat down next to the two.

"A yacht is a big deal and an expensive one." Sam commented as Aria joined Alex on her lap.

"Money has never been an option for us." Jason said cockily as he placed an arm around her, "I know how much you missed your old boat and thought this would be a good replacement. " He finished just as the doorbell rang.

Alexis was passing out the cake to Michael, Jason and the kids, while Mac and Sam stood outside on the back patio. "Are you okay?" Mac asked as he took a seat on the porch swing.

"No." Sam answered honestly, "I feel like the other shoe is about to drop." She muttered as she took a seat next to her father.

"Honey, I am sure things aren't as bad as you think."

"There is a man targeting Jason and Sonny." Sam admitted as she turned to her father.

"Mob related? You know that you can talk to me about anything, I am a father before I am a cop." Mac comforted as he placed an arm around his oldest.

"He isn't in the business, he is a cop and made it quite clear that if I don't stay away from him that something might happen to the kids."

"Who threatened my family?" Mac yelled as he frowned.

"The newest member of the PCPD, the one from the FBI."

"Ian was never in the FBI, he transferred here from the city after his city died." Mac explained as he tried to claim down, "He is not assigned to any case that has to do with Sonny or Jason. He is basically a pencil pusher."

"Is he a true threat?" Sam asked as she started to feel the weight lift.

"Do you think I would ever let anyone hurt my family, which includes Jason?" Mac smiled, "I will keep an eye on him and you have nothing to worry about when it comes to him."

"There is something else." Sam mentioned as she reached into her back pocket and pulled out the forgotten letter and handed it to her dad.

"What is this?" Mac asked as he looked it over and then back to his daughter, "Who needed a DNA test? I thought that whole mess with Brie was taken care of."

"So did I. That is the only DNA test I have ever had done." Sam frowned, "The only thing I can think about is that the first one was wrong."

"You haven't even opened it yet, there is no sense in worrying over till we know for sure." Mac advised as he opened the message himself and glanced it over.

"What does it say?" Sam asked as bit her lip.

"What does what say?" Jason asked as he came to join the two outside, "Everything okay?"

"Jason did you have a DNA test preformed almost two years ago?" Mac asked the younger man.

"DNA?" He asked with a frown and glanced at Sam, "Brie? Robin ran one when Elizabeth's story came out."

"It's saying that a test you had run, came back with the wrong results." Mac read aloud, "They are sorry, it took so long for them to correct it." He continued to read out loud, "It's not about Brie, it's the one you ran against Damion."

"Damion?"

"When he first showed up in your room I made him take a test to make sure he was not lying." Jason remember.

"So this is saying that he isn't my brother." Sam frowned as she looked at the test, "They took this long to test us they made a mistake," Sam said in a harsh voice.

"Sam,"

"You do realize that my daughter was taken and Lucky was killed all because an enemy of Kyle Prince thought I was his daughter." Sam seethed.

"Something that was very possible." Mac tried to comfort his daughter.

"My own Mother said that Kyle was my father. How does she not know?"

"That was a dark time in my life." Alexis answered from the sliding door, "I was rebelling against the Cassadines and went a little crazy."

"You thought that Kyle was my father."

"I didn't know exactly when you were conceived. There were two men that could have been options, I hoped that it was Kyle because I was actually with him." Alexis explained, "There was another man that I met in the bar and I hooked up with him in his car." She finished a little embarrassed.

"So you have no idea who this man was?" Sam asked.

"I don't and I truly believed that Prince was your father. The test with Damion just proved that." Alexis confessed.

"I can't handle this right now." Sam confessed as she ran back into the house and leaving an upset Alexis and a worried Mac and Jason.

"Mama sad?" Alex asked as he cuddled up to his mother's side. Sam was on her side of the bed with Alex curled up next to her so he was partially laying on her. Aria was next cuddled up next to Nala, Brie was next to her on Jason's side of the bed with Bead laying across the foot of the bed. The girls had fallen asleep the moment their heads hit the pillow, while Alex and Sam were the only ones awake.

"A little bit." Sam admitted as she ran her fingers through his hair as his head rest on against her chest.

"I sorry." Alex placed a kiss where his head rested and slowly let himself be lulled to sleep as Sam played with his hair.

"It's not you Monkey." Sam muttered as she placed a kiss on his head, just as the door opened.

Jason tip toed into the room as he saw the lights were off and thought that everyone was asleep. He moved over to his dresser grabbed a pair of sweatpants and quickly changed. Sam had disappeared thirty minutes ago and he had taken the time to talk with her parents and promised to take care of Sam and said that she just need some time.

"Jase?" Sam whispered as she lifted her head from her pillow and caused the man to stop in his tracks and look at her.

"I thought you were asleep." He smiled as he walked to her side of the bed and knelled down so he could see her better, "So we are having a sleepover?" He asked as he nodded towards his side of the bed that was covered with the girls and the dogs.

"I wanted them close." Sam muttered, "I…" She trailed off.

"I understand." Jason smiled as he placed a kiss on her forehead, "I am going to crash in the guest room."

"No! Please. I … I just need you to hold me." Sam whispered.

Jason nodded before he stood up, pulled the covers back and carefully lifted Sam and Alex into his arms before he climbed into the bed. He them laid down so that Alex was laying on his chest and was partially resting on his other side, "I love you so much." He muttered as he placed a kiss on her forehead, "I love you even more for giving me this amazing family and I promise you that everything is going to be fine."
