The dreaded first encounter

AN: *looks down at feet* I'm sorry my readers… I know many of you probably gave up on me, and although it has been a long time *coughsixyearscoughcough* I never actually forgot about the story. I am hoping to post more, my muse came back to me and I was going to start something new, but I went back and re read what I had here and couldn't give up on it… I'm actually thinking that I may be able to combine the ideas and just keep it as one story, but I'm not sure yet. Thank you all for reading!

"Why that stupid, arrogant, ego inflated dog!" Kagome grumbled as she climbed out of the well in her own time. She was just getting back from a 2 week stretch in the past, and she just finished a battle with none other than Sesshoumaru. Who just so happened to be InuYasha's brother. His brother, of all things. He thinks I can just forgive him because he was nice to me on a date! I don't think so.

Kagome stomped into her house and saw her mother waiting for her. Once she fully took in her mothers presence, she dropped her bag and ran over and flung herself into her mothers waiting arms and started crying. Her mother just stood there holding her gently rubbing her back waiting for the right time to ask about what was wrong.

After about 10 mins Kagome finally got herself composed enough to talk to her mother without crying again. "Are you up to talking now my dear," her mom asked. After watching her give a small nod, she led Kagome over to the kitchen table and sat her down in the closest chair. Then without much thought she poured them both tea.

Kagome grasped her warm cup with both hands and lifted it up inhaling the calming aroma, then blowing the steam off the top, took a small sip letting the hot liquid burn her mouth in a familiar soothing way. Lowering the cup back to the table, but keeping hold of it. She looked at her mother, then back at the tea and began telling her what she had just been through.

"It was horrible," she started saying and kept looking into her tea, almost as if scrying the story from there, "first there was this carriage floating in the sky. InuYasha noticed it first and when he looked up he swore he saw his dead mother." Taking another scalding sip she continued, "A giant demon hand then came out of the sky and hit the carriage, the demon had a firm grip on the woman. InuYasha jumped in immediately and tried going to save her. I on the other hand stayed put, there was nothing I could do just now, I would have only been in the way. The longer I watched the harder it became to bare, once the demon came fully into view, you could see he wasn't alone," she stopped, tears threatening to escape, as she steeled herself to keep talking by taking another drink.

"Standing on the demon's arm, it was him, Sesshoumaru. He stood there, talking to InuYahsa. InuYasha even called him by name. Sesshoumaru called him his little brother. I sort of blanked out after that, I don't know what happened for quite some time. I was lost, how could this be the same man who just a mere 2 weeks ago had given me the most romantic date I could have ever dreamed of."

Her mother reached over and placed a comforting hand on Kagome's arm, giving her courage to continue. Kagome however kept looking at her tea, tears now streaming slowly from the corners of her eyes. "This man, he had a cold and calculating expression. He was cruel to that woman he had with him. The next thing I remember, I was waking up chained to the ground and Myoga the demon flea was sucking my blood."

She looked up for a moment and let out a small, but only half hearted laugh at the look her mother was giving her. "Don't worry momma, believe it or not he is actually a good guy, he was helping us at the time," but as soon as she said it her gaze travel back to her tea. "As soon as I could move again, I found InuYasha and I was horrified all over again. He looked to be melting into the woman he thought to be his mother. I tried to get over to him to help him, but just before I could reach him, Sesshoumaru stepped in and killed her and grabbed InuYasha by the neck. He started talking about their fathers grave and how it was hidden, InuYasha was trying to free himself, but he couldn't."

Kagome still looking at her tea was seeing the sadistic pleasure on Sesshomaru's face as she told the next part, "Next thing I knew he took his other hand and gouged out InuYasha's right eye. When he was done, he had this pearl that he kept talking about belonging to their father. He used this staff he had and opened some kind of portal. I couldn't help it I followed InuYasha right through it, I wanted some kind of answer."

"Inside the portal was something I never expected, it was a grave. A grave for their father, made from the bones of his true Inu form. It even had his armor on it," she let out another small laugh. "I followed them inside the bone grave to find a platform with a sword sticking out of it. It was something straight out of fairytale. Sesshoumaru wanted the sword, but he couldn't pull it out. InuYasha tried, he couldn't either. So," she sighed, "they fought. Sesshoumaru has quite a few deadly moves, I was almost hit by them many times. I fell from my hiding place at one point and somehow landed by the sword they now both wanted. I was about the be in the line of fire again, so I grabbed the sword he help get myself up faster and, just like that, it came loose." She paused giving her mother a chance to take in everything that had happened.

"The fighting stopped just like that both of them staring at me like I grew another head. Then Sesshomaru turned his full attention on me. My shirt had ripped in a few places and the necklace he gave me was showing through it. It was the scariest thing in the world, he was looking at me with the intent to kill me. He raised his hand, green poison was oozing from the claws, but he stopped just as suddenly as his eyes spotted the necklace. He looked over at InuYasha and the fight escalated quickly with Sesshomaru saying that he was tired of playing games. He the transformed into a giant Inu, although it wasn't quite as big as his fathers. They fought more, Sesshomaru seemed to be fighting harder, but it didn't feel like he was fighting only for the lost sword. I was again almost hit many times but InuYasha ended up using the sword and it transformed into something magnificent. He used it to cut off Sesshomaru's left front leg and the battle was won shortly after that. As soon as we left the grave, we headed right back to the village. I didn't even tell InuYasha I was leaving, I just needed to come home." Just as she finished telling the story, she also finished her tea.

Kagome's mother didn't even know what to think anymore. She wanted to help her daughter, but this was out of her hands. Then an idea struck her. "Kagome, dear, I know this has been hard on you. Why don't you go take a nice long hot bath and see if you don't feel just a little better. You had some tea, go relax."

Kagome smiled, that was her mother. She might not be able to help, but she could be an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and could make you feel better anyway. "Thanks mom."

As Kagome walked up the stairs, Ms. Higarashi seached for the card that Sesshomaru had given her with his contact information on it. Then as soon as she heard the water running, she picked up the phone and called. She had a feeling this was something only he could help with and, as much as her daughter would hate to see him so soon, was the only option she had.

The phone only rang once and a smooth baritone voice answered the phone, "Shes met me now, hasn't she?"

Shocked, she answered honestly, "Yes, she has."

A sigh answered her first then, "I'll be over shortly. I know she has questions. She has the right to know everything now." With that the phone was disconnected.
