Disclaimer: not mine (mostly)
So...it's been over a year and I'm officially the worst at this updating thing. I keep promising that I'm going to update more and I haven't and I'm just going to blame university and assume that likely no one's still reading but whatever.
Anyways, here's a pretty lengthy chapter to make up for my (tragically) long absence!
Read and review!
Love, Essie
Lights flash and we'll run for the fences
Let them say what they want, we won't hear it
Loose lips sink ships all the damn time
Not this time
Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it
My love
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
Baby, I know places we won't be found
And they'll be chasing their tails tryin' to track us down
Cause I know places we can hide
I know places
~I Know Places, Taylor Swift
"Hey, Masters. There's a reporter here that wants to talk to you." Kingsley said as soon as Sirius walked into the Auror Department. Sirius fought the urge to roll his eyes and just drag his wife home and out of the public eye.
"From where?" She asked.
"Witch Weekly." He said and she looked like she wanted to vomit momentarily.
"Did she say what she wanted?" She asked tightly. Sirius knew that Dany had a long and varied history with Witch Weekly and most of it wasn't positive.
"Said she wanted to talk to you about Rhaegar and Shay." He said. Kingsley had met both and had taken greatly to Rhaegar's wife. He claimed that she reminded him of his mother, who he was eternally fond of. Dany obviously hesitated.
"Let her in." She said finally and Sirius raised an eyebrow.
"Are you sure about that?" He asked and she shrugged.
"Rae can't really afford to have a bunch of cagey family members right now. Just please don't say anything. The people from Witch Weekly are catty bitches and guys…usually don't notice until they've stuck their feet in their mouths." She said quickly as the woman he assumed was the reporter approached. Parker and Simmons happened to be nearby and seemed intrigued.
"Hello, I'm Madison Smith, reporter with Witch Weekly." She said and Sirius automatically saw what Dany had said about them; she was looking Dany up and down, judging. His wife ignored this, even though he was sure she'd seen it too.
"Danilynn Black. How are you?" She asked cordially.
"I'm splendid. Now I have a couple of questions regarding the article that was in the Prophet this morning."
"I'm sure you do. Please, ask away." She said and the woman seemed encouraged by this.
"So is your sister-in-law really American?"
"Yes, she's American. She's an absolutely lovely woman." Dany said airily. Parker and Simmons were still standing off to the side, watching. No one had any way of knowing that voice; it meant that she was neutrally and politically fielding questions. Nothing was a lie but nothing was the whole truth.
"What's she like?" The woman pried.
"Oh she's nice and she and my brother are just too cute together. They both just dote on their kids. They're a sweet little family." She said and the reporter took a few notes. Neither Parker nor Simmons looked like they knew what to do with that. They were accustomed to Dany barking orders at them and telling them exactly what she thought when she thought it. They weren't used to the disarming and charming face she could put on at any given moment. They weren't used to her light and airy comments.
"What can you tell me about their marriage?" She asked and Dany raised an eyebrow.
"If you're asking me how long they've been married, it's public record." She said and the woman, Madison, shook her head.
"I'm more curious about the wedding itself. Did you attend?" She asked and Dany shook her head.
"No, I wasn't able to attend. Rhaegar was in hiding and even I didn't know where exactly he was. He did write me to tell me that he was engaged though and then again once they had been married." She said and the woman nodded.
"It's been a great mystery as to why exactly Rhaegar Masters went into hiding in the first place. Could you give our readers an explanation?" She asked and Sirius saw one of Dany's hands clench.
"When Death Eaters attacked our home in the raid that killed our parents, I was already married and I was of little to no value to the Death Eaters but Rhaegar was a man who would have children with our family name. So my father asked him to leave the country and not to return until he was sure that it would be, at least relatively, safe. He left out of respect for my father's wish that both of his children survive the war, which we fortunately did." Dany responded and Sirius thought that she had given a relatively neutral answer that couldn't be taken out of context. Apparently Madison Smith disagreed with his assessment.
"So Minister Daniel's primary interest wasn't the Wizarding Community that Rhaegar was supposed to have led, but his own children?" She asked and Sirius saw a muscle in Dany's jaw jump. The woman was verging on dangerous territory; only the very foolish or the very ignorant dared to imply anything negative about Daniel Masters to his daughter. She had tried to kill people for much less than criticizing her father.
"My father not only had our safety in mind, which he always took very seriously, but the longevity of our family as a bloodline. He knew that the best thing for everyone would be for Rhaegar to flee and return once his life was not in immediate danger. There was nothing my father wanted more than for my brother to be Minister but it just wasn't feasible for him to follow in his steps with the violent political climate that existed during the war. We were the last and my father wanted to make sure that it wouldn't stay that way forever." She said and the woman nodded. She didn't seem to notice that Dany looked like she wanted to reach over and strangle her. Sirius noticed.
"Of course. Now, people have been curious for ages about how exactly your parents were killed all those years ago, do you mind telling the readers—?" She asked and Sirius winced. That was a big misstep. No one dared to ask Dany about how Daniel and Rhea had died. Sirius hadn't even known the whole story until the night Harry had accidentally spilled her memories all over and they had gotten trapped in that night. There was no way that she'd decide to share that with the general populous when she wouldn't even tell her own husband.
"I mind very much. If you have any questions regarding my parents' deaths, I suggest directing them to the Head of the Auror Department, who handled the raid. I think that's enough. It was a pleasure, Ms. Smith." She said, her eyes darkening for a second. The reporter looked surprised at the sudden turn of events. "Parker, Simmons. If you wouldn't mind helping Ms. Smith locate the door?" She asked and both men nodded and escorted the woman out. Dany put her hand on her hip and groaned.
"You alright?" He asked and Dany nodded.
"Brilliant. I'm so excited right now, can't you tell? No more reporters." She said and Sirius nodded.
"I'd talk to Moody. He can come up with some bullshit secrecy line and no one gets the heat for it." He advised and she smiled.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea." She said and they walked through the Department, breaking away from each other for their offices. Sirius sat down at his desk and thought about the way her face had pinched. She was losing her patience with all of these political moves and it hadn't even really started.
Dany was a good politician and she probably would have done beautifully at being Minister, but she didn't like it. Sirius knew that she didn't like playing mind games and lying professionally to slip things by people unnoticed. She didn't like the pettiness and the backstabbing. She had told him all of this one night when they had been in bed. She would stand with her brother one last time and then she was done with the politics. She said that she would allow herself to be at the heart of the scandal and the whirlwind politics to restore her family's place in society, and in the Ministry, but then she was done. She had chosen to be an Auror for a reason; she wanted to indiscriminately help. She had always said that she never wanted it to be her job to judge or to ask if someone deserves something; she always said her calling was to protect the innocent.
"Black?" A voice said from the door. It was Parker.
"Parker. How can I help you?" He asked and motioned for him to come in. The younger man walked in and sat down in front of his desk.
"I was just curious if—if her life has always been this public." He said and Sirius was surprised.
"Is there a particular reason you're asking?"
"I just…I'm too young to remember when her dad was Minister and she was always in the news. I didn't want to ask her directly because I didn't know if she wanted to talk about it. I've never really seen her do anything more than yell at people and be loud, blunt, and demanding. What just happened out there looked miserable, is all. I couldn't imagine having to dance around people's questions like that." He said softly and Sirius nodded.
"Yeah, it's always been like that for her. When Daniel was Minister, there was criticism on just about everything…looks, dates, haircuts, places she went with her friends, weight, clothing, manners, you name it. It was the worst when we were dating, in my opinion. Then again, I might just think that because I was involved. It was a huge scandal and plenty of papers and magazines were more than happy to comment on how she was dating the heir to a dark family."
"You've got to be joking. That's terrible." He said and Sirius was very surprised by this turn in events. One of the boys that refused to listen to his wife and spent most of his time doing shit that could get him fired looked genuinely concerned and sorry for her.
"Yeah, it was awful. A lot of people called her a traitor to her family among less kind things. And when we got married, and decided to take my name to boot, it was…broadcasted. No one knew Rhaegar was alive and it was everywhere that the last Masters was now a Black. Then when I was arrested, the big scandal was that Dany Masters was married to a raving, murderous, lunatic. And then it became very hush-hush after a bit because she just up and vanished for about a year. When she came back, it was like everyone had forgotten that she was anything but Danilynn Masters, daughter of the dead Minister…until now, of course." He said and Parker looked generally disturbed by that.
"I never knew any of that." Parker said and suddenly, Simmons walked in.
"She never talks about before she joined up with the Aurors…she never talks about anything before the fall of Voldemort, really. Except sometimes she shouts at us that we'd be dead meat back then. Other than that, we know almost nothing about her…any of us. Of course, Moody knows her but she's a great, big, secret to most of us." Simmons said.
"Both of you are like one big secret. When we were in Hell Month, we all thought that she didn't have a soul. No offense." Parker added and Sirius laughed.
"Oh please. You should have heard the shit we said about Moody when we were in Hell Month. I remember that we'd run with Lily and James, you know when you run for like five hours straight?" He asked and they both nodded and looked like they'd never be able to forget it. "All four of us would run together and come up with different and inventive ways to kill Moody. It was fun." He laughed and the other two chuckled.
"You know we were both on shift in Azkaban when you were released." Parker said suddenly. Simmons looked like he wasn't sure he wanted this advertised.
"You were?"
"Yeah…we never told anyone, it didn't feel right, but we were there. You look better now than you did when Kingsley opened up your cell." Parker said and Sirius nodded. "It was quite the emotional reunion." He added on quietly and Sirius looked at him sharply.
"You saw that?" He asked and both of them nodded.
"Yeah, we saw. Well, we best be getting back to work before your wife comes in and berates us for doing nothing."
"I'm always berating you both for something." A female voice said from the door. "I didn't know that you three boys sat around and talked about me when I wasn't there." Dany added on with a smile. She was leaned against the doorframe.
"I can't stop talking about you, Dan. It's a condition and I think that people are starting to become concerned." Sirius said, faking concern. Dany laughed.
"Uh-huh. Sure…now if you two were so curious, you could have just asked me. I would have answered." She added on and Parker and Simmons shifted around.
"Oh, well…it's just, um—" Sirius took mercy on the both of them.
"Believe it or not, some people think you're scary and unapproachable." He taunted her and she smirked.
"I am no such thing. I'm not scary. You're scary, Sirius Orion Black. I wasn't the one that sent someone to St. Mungo's for two months in Fifth Year." She countered and Sirius rolled his eyes.
"I'd forgotten about that…I probably just should have killed him. James stopped me because apparently he 'wasn't worth Azkaban', but I ended up there anyways. It was a lost opportunity." He said dryly and Dany rolled her eyes.
"You had no business being sent to prison over my asshole boyfriend." She said and both Parker and Simmons looked intrigued.
"So, you actually dated and did normal teenager things?" Simmons asked and Dany looked amused.
"Yeah, I did normal things like date and go to Hogsmeade and Quidditch games. I know it's hard to believe." She said dryly and they both laughed.
"It kind of is…now not to pry but why were you hospitalizing people when you were fifteen, Black?" Parker said.
"Dany's boyfriend was a scumbag and we're going to leave it at that." He said, not particularly caring about the details. He really did regret not getting another kick in at his head, in retrospect.
"I still think that you and James overreacted at least a little." Dany said, knowing full well that she wasn't going to win this.
"Your brother was right, you know. You've been spoiled by different men your entire life. You should be used to it." He teased. Parker and Simmons laughed.
"She doesn't strike me as a spoiled type."
"I'm not."
"Oh, she totally is." Sirius said and Dany looked like she wanted to smack him. He ignored that look. "First, it was her dad. Daniel doted on her and gave her everything she wanted; he could never deny her a thing. So did Charlie Potter, he was her Godfather, and Moody. Not to mention Rhaegar, who was so bloody overprotective that I thought it was going to kill me. And of course, James adored his little Godsister and then, well, there's me. My uncle loved you too, now that I think about it. My uncle, Dan. You won Alphard over." He said and Dany rolled her eyes.
"It's not my fault that I'm lovable." She said airily. Sirius snorted and Parker and Simmons were laughing pretty hard.
"If you two want to come over for dinner tonight to wrap up this conversation, it's fine with us." Sirius said suddenly and Dany glanced at him and nodded.
"Uh, are you sure about that?" Simmons asked and Dany nodded.
"Yeah…I mean you two aren't really fresh meat anymore, so I think it's socially acceptable." She said with a shrug. "Besides, the kids are always really excited to meet Aurors. You should have seen their faces when they met Kingsley." She laughed.
"If that's alright, we probably shouldn't intrude…" Parker trailed off.
"It's no trouble, really. And not to mention that I know you both live alone and trust me when I say that Dan and Shay are way better cooks than most men in the world." Sirius added on and they both consented.
"Alright, neither of us can really turn down a home cooked meal." He responded and Sirius nodded in agreement before checking the time. There was about an hour left in the workday.
"I'll go pick the kids up from Molly's early then…those boys can't stay clean for the life of them. I think they roll around in the dirt in their free time or something. I'll tell Shay that we're expecting two more, too. And I'll make Rhaegar clear out anyone from the Wizengamot. There's nothing more dismally boring than politics over dinner." She said walked out of the room.
"She makes dinner? Really?" Simmons asked, disbelievingly. Sirius nodded.
"Yeah, she's actually pretty good. I'm bloody terrible and now with Shay in the house, there's actually a decent meal on the table every night." He said. "You two should probably go finish up your work for the day and then come on back. I'll Apparate us home." He said and the younger men left. Dany had looked like she wanted to whack him over the head for not asking her first but she had consented. He was going to hear about this later. He sat down and finished up some tedious paperwork about a recent job he had worked with Dany, Shacklebolt, and Moody. Exactly an hour later, Parker and Simmons appeared.
"Black? We're back." One of them said and Sirius looked up.
"Alright, I'm done. Let's go." He said and they both grabbed and arm before he Apparated. They reappeared on the front porch. Both men looked around.
"This isn't what I expected…it's very friendly." Parker asked and Sirius laughed before opening the door. "Holy shit. Congratulations on having a great place to live. We live in a gross flat in London together. Rent is hard to make with just one. You married the right family, Man." He said and Sirius shrugged.
"It's been in Dan's family since forever. She grew up here and so did her dad and so on. I'll never forget the first time I saw the place, though." He said and there were audible voices from the kitchen. "Come on, everyone's in the kitchen." He said and they walked towards the kitchen. Rhaegar was talking to Mason, who looked like he was absolutely ecstatic about the one-on-one with his dad. Dany, who had changed out of her work clothes, was at the table with Harry and Lynn, clearly trying to help them with math. Shay was near the stove, looking like she was very overwhelmed by the mass quantities of food. "Hey guys." He said loudly.
"Padfoot!" Harry said, abandoning his math. Sirius picked him up.
"Wow, you're getting big for this. How was lessons today?" He asked and all three kids groaned. "That bad? Come on, Aunt Molly is really nice." He said and Harry looked like there was no possible way for Sirius to understand their pain.
"Aunt Molly is really nice but no one likes her history lessons. They're so boring." Lynn said and both boys nodded.
"She's told us the Weasley Family history seven times. Seven times!" Harry exclaimed. Even Sirius had to admit that seven was overkill, especially for a relatively mundane family.
"Uncle Sirius, you should tell her to not be so boring." Mason said and Sirius laughed as he put his Godson down.
"I don't think I want to be the person to tell Molly Weasley to stop doing anything." He chuckled. "Oh, and everyone this is…actually what are your first names?" He trailed off and they both laughed.
"We go by our last names on purpose, you know. We both hate our first names." Simmons said and Sirius shrugged.
"Whatever…guys, this is Parker and Simmons. They work with Dany and me. Guys, you can take seats if you want. No one here bites. Except maybe my wife." He said and all three kids immediately walked over to them as they sat down at the kitchen table. Dany stuck her tongue out.
"I resent that." She said and Sirius kissed her. "Uh-huh. Be a kiss ass." She said and he laughed.
"You're Aurors?" Harry asked and they both nodded. "That's so cool! Both of my parents were Aurors." He said.
"Do you beat people up?" Mason asked excitedly.
"Mason Daniel, we do not encourage violence in this house so stop acting like it." Rhaegar said from where he was still seated at the table. "This family encourages peace. Right, Danilynn?" He asked and Dany nodded.
"Oh yeah, Rae. Peace is important." She said and glanced at Sirius with a grin. "Actually, you know what our dad used to say about being nice, kids?" She asked and Sirius knew where this was going. Both her niece and nephew shook their heads.
"What did he say, Aunt Dany?" Mason asked. Rhaegar's children hardly ever heard about their grandparents.
"Dany." Rhaegar said, obviously understanding what she was going to say.
"Hush, Rhaegar." She said casually, as if she expected to be obeyed. "He always said to be nice because once you're mean, no one will believe the nice. Makes sense right?" Both kids nodded. "But he always said to be nice until it wasn't time to be nice anymore. And if you're not going to be nice, destroy them." She said and both the kids' faces lit up.
"You did not just pass that down a generation, Dan." Rhaegar said and Dany shrugged.
"It's great advice; it's gotten us through life so far. I can thank that piece of advice for many of my more shining moments." She defended. Her brother simply gave up and started talking to Parker and Simmons, both of whom looked mildly intimidated by the remnants of the Masters family. Sirius sat down next to his wife.
"Hey, love." He said and she smiled as he put an arm on the back of her chair.
"This is really weird, having them here." She said quietly and he nodded.
"Yeah, but I mean I think it's time that you stop shutting people out. Daniel never kept people out of the house." She smiled sadly.
"I know…he always left the door open so people could come in with a funny story or some good news. That was until the war though. The only things that came through our front door was death and sadness after Voldemort made a grab for power. But Dad still kept the door open for everyone who wanted to visit." She said softly. "I miss him so much sometimes…not a day goes by that I wish that he was still here. There are days that I think I'd give up the rest of my life just to hear him laugh one more time." Sirius was unsurprised by this. Dany and her father had been incredibly close and she had never really recovered from losing a man that was her idol, confidant, and best friend. "But enough of that. Shay, do you need some help with that?" She asked suddenly and stood up to help her sister-in-law. This conversation wasn't over.
Dinner was ready not long after Dany had offered to help Shay. All nine of them sat around the dining room table, unable to fit around the kitchen table, which was made for eight. Sirius was sitting between Dany and Mason, who was completely distracted by asking rapid-fire questions at Parker and Simmons, who had warmed up to the children considerably. Dany was silent at the moment.
"Hey Dan?"
"Yeah? You want me to pass you something?" She asked and he shook his head.
"No, no I'm fine. It's just… I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you when you really needed someone." He said softly and he meant it. He hadn't really thought about getting caught when he had gone after Peter. He hadn't thought about how it would affect the rest of his life, and hers. He had been too riddled with guilt, grief, and rage. He'd never forget the way she had tried to cling onto him as he was dragged off to Azkaban for what they had both thought was permanently. He'd never be able to erase the way she had been pulled away from him, crying and screaming, by Law Enforcement Wizards and Aurors.
"Those days are less now, now that I have you and Harry. But there were some days that I was so alone that I thought it was going to kill me. It was a rough seven years." She admitted. Sirius opened his mouth to respond and was cut off by Lynn, who had just returned from the restroom.
"Aunt Dany, there's a tree with flowers in the backyard that wasn't there this morning." She said, like she wasn't quite sure when this had happened. Dany's eyes lit up and Sirius fought the urge to laugh.
"It's Mom's tree, Rae." She said and Rhaegar's face lit up too.
"Come on!" He said and dragged his sister out of the room by her hand. Everyone exchanged looks.
"Um, what…" Shay said and Sirius immediately knew what had happened.
"Their mom had a tree that she grew and babied with magic. It blooms in the winter, which is completely backwards. She always said that she wanted it to bloom in the winter so something was always growing." He said and grinned. "Come on, you're going to want to see this before they get off the porch." He said and they all walked out to the backyard. Dany and Rhaegar were laughing and Rhaegar was trying to coax his sister into putting on shoes. Dany looked up and caught Sirius' eye. Before anyone could stop her, she ran off the porch barefoot and laughing.
"Danilynn! Dany! At least put on shoes!" Rhaegar yelled and followed her out into the yard. Things were definitely starting to change colors except for the pure white flowers on Rhea's magnolia tree. The siblings raced out and stood under the branches. Suddenly, Rhaegar gave his sister a leg up and she vanished up into the branches just before he did. Everyone exchanged looks and a few minutes passed, the only sound was the tinkling laughs of the siblings. Suddenly, they appeared halfway up the tree and sat down on adjacent branches. Sirius had always thought that Rhea had picked this tree because it flowered the same color as her husband and children's hair. They blended right in, the only things making them stand out was their clothes. Dany's jeans and top were visible and so were Rhaegar's dress pants, his white shirt blending in. They all followed them out and soon one of them, Sirius thought it was Rhaegar started to whistle a tune. Suddenly, something happened that never happened. Sirius looked up in the branches. Dany was singing. Shay looked at him. She didn't know what it was, but Sirius sure as hell did.
"What is that?" She asked and Sirius nodded.
"It's 'The Green Fields of France'. She hardly ever sings. I haven't heard anything like this from her in a really long time." He added on. She had a gentle voice and it reminded Sirius of a funeral. Rhaegar picked up the tune during the second verse, but still let her carry the melody.
The sun shining down on these green fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now
But here in this graveyard that's still no man's land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation were butchered and damned
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
Sirius was pretty sure that Rhaegar stopped singing the next verse because he was next to tears. Dany certainly sounded like she was right there with him, about ready to break down. Her voice was obviously quivering a little, but she still sounded good and she wouldn't drop the tune. She'd refuse to drop something of her father's until the day she died.
And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride
Do all those who lie here know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you the cause
Did you really believe that this war would end wars
Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
The killing and dying it was all done in vain
Oh Willy McBride it all happened again
And again and again and again and again
Someone appeared next to Sirius. It was Moody, who had apparently let himself in. He had never been the same after Daniel's death. It didn't surprise Sirius at all when he started to sing along with the siblings. He and Sirius were the only ones other than the siblings that really remembered the war, so he couldn't really help but pick up the end with Moody.
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
(A/N: The sing is an Irish song with like a million covers of it done, so I just picked the one I liked the best)
Everyone exchanged looks. No one looked like they knew what to do with this. Daniel had always loved music. Everything their father had loved had been of peace. This said more about their family than any legislation ever could. It was simultaneously beautiful and heartbreaking. Their entire family was anti-war, something many forgot because of the war they had been forced to fight not so long ago.
"That's heartbreaking." Simmons said and Sirius nodded. Moody looked incredibly sad. Sirius often forgot that he was family to Dany and Rhaegar.
"It's one of the only ways they can be close to their parents…that tree is like Rhea personified, she loved it. And all Daniel ever wanted was peace and love and harmony; he sang it a lot towards the end, when the war was really wearing on him. He wanted that for everyone and he could never really understand why people were so hateful and cruel. Their deaths were…devastating, to put it lightly. Dany never recovered from losing her father. Not completely. None of us ever did." Moody said and Shay nodded.
"Rae misses them. He won't even talk about his mother. I think it hurts too much, honestly." She said and that didn't surprise Sirius in the least.
"Uncle Sirius?" Lynn asked. Sirius looked down. "How can we help them?" She asked and Sirius had no way to answer that. Harry whispered something to Mason and they both nodded before dragging Lynn over to the tree. Shay looked like she was going to protest. Sirius grabbed her arm lightly and shook his head.
"Wait." He whispered and before anyone could stop them, all three climbed up into the tree. "Wow, I wasn't expecting that." He added on. Parker and Simmons looked like they were uncomfortable. "Well, we might as well go in, they'll be up there for a while." He said and they nodded and all four of them nodded and walked inside to the warm house. Soon, Rhaegar returned with Mason and Harry.
"Where's Dany and Lynn?" Shay asked and he shrugged.
"Still up there. Lynn wanted to stay. She said that she liked being one of the flowers. When we left, she was asking Dany to put flowers in her hair." Rhaegar said and Sirius fought the urge to laugh at how much like her namesake Lynn was.
"Sounds like her." Shay said with a laugh. Half an hour later, Dany came in, holding Lynn's hand. True to Rhaegar's word, there were flowers braided and tucked into Lynn's hair with the soft elegance that Dany had used on her own hair before. He remembered his wife putting flowers in Lily's hair for her wedding to James. Lynn smiled at Moody, who smiled back. It was adorable how much he couldn't help but love those kids.
"Uncle Moody!" She said and hugged him. Parker and Simmons' mouths dropped open.
"Hello, Lynn. It's good to see you. You're taller. Just the spitting image of your grandmother, you know that?" He said quietly as he hugged her back. It took Sirius a moment to realize that he meant Rhea.
"Daddy's mom?" She asked and Moody nodded.
"Just like her, except for your hair. Rhea Archibald was a cute little thing when she started dating your grandpa. They loved each other so much." Dany glanced at Sirius and was clearly trying to not laugh. This family was weird.
