I'm so sorry you guys. I'm so, so sorry for this one.
Love, Essie
And so we'll hold
Each other close
And then we'll know
We're standing by.
~Standing By, Pentatonix
Two days later, Dany's perfect little bubble popped in the most dramatic way possible.
"Someone come help! Someone's hurt!" Someone yelled and Dany and Sirius exchanged looks and started to push through the crowd. No one else tried to intervene. Dany was by far the best at first-aid in the Department and they all knew it. They walked in and Dany automatically started to pull her hair back. It was Elizabeth. Kingsley was trying to help her, but he quickly backed off, realizing that he was no longer in control.
"Where was she supposed to be?" Dany asked and knelt down to look at her friend. She checked her pulse and started to pull the other woman's clothes off to get to her obviously severe wounds.
"Just a routine job in Godric's Hollow. It obviously went sideways…Dan she went with someone else. She went with Simmons and no one's seen him." He said slowly and Dany nodded as she felt for her wand.
"Great." She said and waved her wand and some of Lizzie's joints lit up. "Shit. Go get a first aid kit. I need something to stop the blood." She snapped at no one in particular. Sirius walked off and grabbed one before handing it to her. Dany checked her pulse again and she felt her stomach drop. "Fuck. Come on, Lizzie. Come on." She murmured and pointed her wand at her chest. She shocked her. She had flat lined. She checked her pulse. She did it again. And again. Finally, she found a pulse and started to work on her wounds.
"Sirius, go get Moody. She needs to be transferred. Now. She needs a healer." She said and Sirius all but ran out of the room.
Dany was up to her elbows in her friend's blood by the time he got back. She was running out of ideas. Nothing she did was sticking. Nothing magical could get her to stop bleeding. She had to have lost at least two pints of blood by now, maybe three. One of the old spells could get it to stop but they came at a price. If she touched the old magic, she was risking the baby's safety. She knew what would fix it; she knew the exact spell. She couldn't do it. Well, she could—but she wouldn't. She wouldn't risk her baby like that.
"Sirius, please remove your wife." Michelle said and Sirius helped Dany up, her hand smearing blood down his forearm. Somehow Michelle had been here. "It's okay, dear. We've got her. Alastor, please contact the hospital. Tell them that I'll be coming through with an emergency Floo." She said and Alastor walked out.
"She's going to die. She's not going to make it. I kept losing her. I had to bring her back four times." Dany said quietly and Sirius put an arm around her. It was just like old times, she thought suddenly.
"You did everything you could, Dan. Let Michelle do her job." He said quietly and she nodded, her eyes trained on the woman on the ground. Alastor came back in and helped Michelle get Elizabeth to the Floo.
"Masters. You're in charge of getting Simmons back." Moody said and they vanished and everyone exchanged looks.
"We have to tell Parker…he's going to want to go on the rescue." Sirius said and Dany nodded.
"I know he will…but what if—?"
"Times are different, Dan. Capture isn't an automatic death sentence anymore." He said into her hair and she nodded. Parker walked in.
"I saw Moody taking Lizzie to the hospital…where's Simmons?" He asked and they all looked at him. "Oh no…no, no, no." Dany felt her heart squeeze. "I want to come. I know you two are going to be heading it up and I want to come."
"Parker—" Sirius started.
"I know you do. And you're coming. He's your partner. Get Shacklebolt. It's going to be a four-person job." Dany said and before he could leave, Sirius interrupted.
"Dan, maybe you shouldn't…" He trailed off and she turned on him.
"Shut up, Sirius. Moody left me in charge and I will leave your ass here if I so desire. I'm your wife, not a child that you get to order around." She hissed and turned back to Parker. "Let's go. Get ready." She said and then she realized that the town was Godric's Hollow, James' hometown. The last time she had been there was the night Lily and James had died; she had never seen Lily and James' house in ruins, she had never wanted to go back. It was time to suck it up and do her damn job. "I want to know everything about what they were doing in Godric's Hollow." She added on and one of the newbies left and brought her back a folder. She skimmed it.
Someone had reported suspicious activity to the Ministry and because of the political significance of the area, Aurors had been sent instead of Law Enforcement. That was probably fortunate. Dany thought that anyone who was from the more mundane half of the law wouldn't have survived at all. The report said that several people said that they had seen suspicious people around some of the older, abandoned buildings.
"Godric's Hollow? You know it?" Kingsley asked, just reappearing with Parker. Dany nodded.
"Yep. I haven't been there since…well, it's been a long time." She said and handed the file to Sirius. He read it quickly and she watched his face. He nodded and he handed it to Kingsley, who read it with Parker. "Parker, you know Simmons better than anyone. If he was in trouble, real trouble that could cost him his life, what would he do?" She asked and he thought about it.
"If he couldn't fight his way out, he'd probably hide and try to get out unseen. Why? Dan, there's no way that he's being held hostage; I know you two are still thinking that we're in a war but we're not. It's probably just some jackass that thinks he's being funny." He said and Dany rolled her eyes and Sirius groaned.
"This is what's going to get you killed. Someone almost killed Elizabeth. She's highly trained and careful and someone damn near took her life. That's not the work of some relatively harmless idiot." Sirius said and Dany thought about Godric's Hollow. She roughly remembered the layout.
"Sirius, you know Godric's Hollow. Do you remember any shady abandoned buildings?" She asked and he shook his head.
"No, not really…but it's been a long time Dan. I wasn't even twenty last time I was there and that was when Lily and James—" He stopped suddenly and she nodded. "Outside of that, it was probably Dorea and Charlie's funerals that took me there last and we were only eighteen." He said and she nodded again, unsurprised. Moody suddenly appeared.
"Masters. I'm assuming that you're getting ready to go?" He said and she nodded. "You're taking Black, Shacklebolt, and—wait don't tell me—Parker."
"I'm nothing if not transparent…alright, everyone get changed and ready." Dany said. She and Sirius broke off from Kingsley and Parker. "See you soon, yeah?" She said to her husband before she walked into her office. He nodded before she closed the door.
She pulled a drawer open and looked at the clothes that she had worn so much before Voldemort's fall. No one ever bothered with the tough and flexible clothes anymore. Usually jeans, some boots, and a shirt were more than enough protection. But this was unknown and Simmons was missing. As much shit as she gave him, he wasn't a baby; if he was gone, there was a reason other than he was simply hiding.
The tight, black leather pants had obviously seen some rough times and were broken in. The black shirt was really just toughened cotton. She pulled out her old combat boots and they, like the rest of the clothes, were broken in and had clearly been loved (and abused) by their owner. She knew Parker, Kingsley, and Sirius were all doing the same thing she was doing right now, except Parker and Kingsley would have stiff clothes that were virtually unused. She pulled her hair up in a tight ponytail and took a deep breath. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror she had quite forgotten was in her office. She looked how she remembered herself from the war. Harsh, severe, and (frankly) frightening. The door opened. It was Sirius.
"Damn…I haven't seen this part of you in a long time." He said and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind her. She looked at them in the mirror. These were the people that Death Eaters had feared, not the people they were today. The people looking back at them weren't expecting parents. Dany heard the little voice in the back of mind whisper 'murderer'.
"These clothes have seen some serious shit." She said and he nodded.
"We've seen serious shit. I like these clothes…they're part of us." He said.
"Are you going to be okay? Going back to Godric's Hollow, I mean. Potter Manor is still there and I know you haven't really been back since Dorea and Charlie died. Not to mention Lily and James' old place. I just want to make sure that you'll be here and now…not back a decade ago." She said quietly and he squeezed her waist.
"Yeah, I'm okay…besides, someone's got to watch your back." He said and she smiled. "We'd be dead meat without each other." She laughed in agreement.
"Well, I'm betting my life on you keeping your head in the game. We both are." She said quietly as she put a hand on her stomach, which was still flat. There had been no change thus far in the pregnancy—at least visible change, which was good because no one knew she was pregnant and a baby bump would have given up that charade pretty quickly. He turned her around and pulled her shirt up to expose her stomach. He leaned down and kissed her stomach, just below her belly button.
"The little grape thinks that Mommy and Daddy are going to do a kickass job today." He said and she laughed.
"I'm sure. Come on, let's go raise a little hell." She said as she doubled checked her wand and grabbed a couple of knives off her desk, strapped one to her leg and put another in her boot for temporary safekeeping before pulling her shirt back down. They walked back out and Parker and Kingsley looked up; Kingsley grinned and Parker looked kind of scared.
"There they are. These are the Aurors that trained me…righteous Danilynn Masters and fearless Sirius Black. I really thought that you two had settled down since the war, but alas, I was wrong." He said and they both shrugged.
"It's the clothes, Shacklebolt." Sirius said with a grin. "Really, they make the Auror." He said and suddenly, Rhaegar walked into the department.
"Rhaegar?" Dany asked blankly and no one responded. Everyone stood up as a sign of respect. He said hello to a few people and started to talk to Moody quietly. He shook his head and gestured to Dany and Sirius. Rae raised an eyebrow. He walked over and Moody was unabashedly bitching his ear off.
"…You are doing no such thing, Rhaegar Nathaniel. She's under orders and I'll be damned if you start pulling Aurors from the field purely because they're family." He snapped and Dany was intrigued by this but not nearly enough to consider staying to listen. "You may have the title of Minister but you don't get to dally in our daily affairs unless we're in a state of emergency. Even under martial law, you can't completely control us and you know it. You have little authority here and even if you did, it wouldn't stop me from smacking you into next week."
"Dan, you need to come with me. I need you for something…" Rhaegar said.
"What do you need that no one else could give you?"
"I need advice. You can't go today." He said and she didn't miss the way that his flicked down towards her stomach. She wasn't surprised he already knew what was happening: he would be notified immediately that there was a missing Auror and it didn't take a genius to figure out who would be going to Godric's Hollow.
"The only thing you need is a good hit to the head for trying to keep me out of the field. I'm sure Alastor would be more than happy to help." She hissed. Moody obliged her almost immediately. Rhaegar glared at him.
"That's nice of you, Alastor. Really, I can feel the love, you two. It's palpable."
"I'm your Godfather; it's my job to smack sense into you. And so help me if you pull her from the field because unlike everyone else, you don't scare me and I won't run away from the mighty Masters temper. It's hard to scare someone that's changed your diapers." He snapped. Rhaegar returned his attention to his sister.
"Danilynn—"
"You're not Dad, Rhaegar. So stop trying to tell me what to do." She snapped.
"I'm just worried about—"
"I know you are, and I appreciate it, but there's lives at stake and it's my job to get them back. It's not your place to interfere." She said and Rhaegar looked like he was going to protest but thought better of it, instead glancing at Sirius.
"You going to back me up?" He asked and Sirius shook his head.
"I was told the same thing. Only thing I can do is go with her and do my job. Don't piss her off anymore, Rhaegar…she's reckless when she's mad." Rhaegar looked like he had finally resigned himself to defeat. He kissed his sister's forehead.
"Be safe. I love you, little sister." He said quietly. She nodded and hugged him.
"Love you too, Rae." She said and her brother clapped Sirius on the back before leaving.
"Well, now that the Minister has tried and failed to go on a power trip, I think we can all get on with it." Moody said gruffly. Everyone exchanged looks like they had no idea what had just happened. "Black and Masters, you know the deal." They both nodded and Dany started to flip a knife around in her left hand.
"Well, we don't know the deal, so please elaborate, Moody." Kingsley said.
"Simmons is the priority but eliminate threats if you encounter them. You have no reason to try and clear the town that we know of. Whoever this bastard is almost killed an Auror and is in all likelihood holding another against his will. If this is confirmed and there is a clear and present danger, you have permission to kill on sight. If you have reason to kill on sight, you also have reason to evacuate the town. Call in reinforcements if you need them…we don't need anyone else in St. Mungo's." He said and they both nodded. "Good luck." He said and Dany, Sirius, Parker, and Kingsley all nodded.
"See you, Moody." Sirius said with a grin.
"Oh, Masters. Black. This isn't wartime. We don't have to make sacrifices; this is no man left behind. You're not going to cut people loose to save each other." They both nodded and exchanged a glance before they all Apparated.
Godric's Hollow looked how Dany remembered it. It was picturesque and full of people. Some of whom were obviously muggles; others noticed them almost immediately, eyes flickering between their clothes and their faces. They knew they were Aurors here on business.
"Let's start walking." Kingsley said and they all started down the main street, looking for anything that stood out.
"What the hell is that? Who leaves their house like that?" Parker asked. Dany followed his line of sight and felt her stomach drop to somewhere around her feet.
"That's where it happened. That was Lily and James' home." She said softly. Suddenly, an older woman, probably late-forties or early-fifties, walked up to them. Dany jumped when she grabbed her arm. Sirius pulled out his wand.
"Hey, back off of her." He said sharply and the woman rolled her eyes, turning to look at him. She looked vaguely familiar when she did this. Dany noticed that she removed her hand, despite looking like this was all very ridiculous. It wasn't a huge secret that Aurors weren't very into touching.
"Sirius Black, you ungrateful little shit, don't you sass the woman that gave you firewhiskey when you were underage." Dany's mouth dropped open.
"Sherri?" He asked blankly and she nodded.
"The one and only…good to see you kids. I never got to say how sorry I was for Lily and James…and right after Dorea and Charlie; Sirius, dear if you ever need a drink, the first few are on the house." She said and Sirius nodded, still wary. "But judging by the clothes, I'm assuming you're here for work?" Dany nodded.
"Would someone like to explain to us who she is?" Parker asked.
"This is Sherri. She's a bartender in town." Dany said and they all nodded. "She was a family friend of the Potters. We got a call about some sketchy folk around town…you wouldn't happen to know about that, would you?"
"Can't say I do. Anything else to go on? The town's changed a lot since you were last here; kind of a destination after, well…Lily and James." She said quietly.
"Yeah, abandoned buildings; something about them hanging around old and abandoned buildings. Neither of us could remember any." Sirius said.
"I suppose you wouldn't…the only truly abandoned building around is Potter Manor. Of course it wasn't abandoned when you lot were here, but it definitely is now. Apparently Harry Potter's guardians don't want him living there." She said pointedly and Dany and Sirius exchanged looks.
"Sorry, but it's a little painful." Dany retorted.
"I'm not saying I blame you, hon. But if you want an abandoned building, that's what you're looking for. I'm sure you know the way. And Sirius? I was serious about those drinks. Especially if you're going up there." She said and drifted off.
"Why does Black get free drinks?" Parker said, like he wanted free drinks too.
"Because I lived with the Potters." He said quietly and they walked towards the gates to Potter Manor. "This was my home when no one wanted me."
"Do the honors." Dany said and Sirius pushed the gates open. They all started to walk up the drive and Dany felt like someone had slapped her in the face.
She had practically grown up here and now the house was overrun with weeds and looked like it was an inch away from collapse. They slowly walked into the house and it looked the same inside. The piano was still there and there were still papers on the stand. Pictures were still up and coats were on the rack where their owners had left them. Dany caught Sirius' eye he nodded at her unspoken request. He shifted down into Padfoot and Dany shushed the other two before they could react. He sniffed around a little and appeared to be listening. He shifted back and shook his head.
"No one's on this floor. Simmons has definitely been here though. His smell is all over." He said and Dany nodded and pointed up the stairs. They all slowly climbed the stairs in front of her, first Sirius, then Parker, and then Kingsley. She was a step up before someone grabbed her around the neck from behind and started to drag her back. She gasped not only in surprise, but also in an attempt to breathe. She elbowed whoever it was in the face and turned around as the attacker yowled. She held off on just stabbing whoever it was through the eye; she had no clue who had grabbed her. It was a woman. She looked like she had been living in the sewers for the past year. Other than that, it was hard to tell much as she clutched the side of her face Dany had cracked the cheekbone of.
"I'm okay." She said quietly to her husband before magically restraining the woman. "Watch her." She said to Kingsley and he nodded as the other three continued up the stairs. They started to check rooms, rooms that Dany recognized.
She hoped that Simmons would be in a guest room; she didn't want to have to open up James and Sirius' old rooms, especially with Sirius with her. They made it through the floor except for James and Sirius' rooms and Dany slowly opened the door to her husband's teenage bedroom. There were muted sounds coming from inside. Parker's eyes lit up. "Simmons" he mouthed and Dany nodded before quickly opening the door all the way and hoping that she wasn't killed. There was no one there except for Simmons, who had been tied to the desk chair and gagged. Parker ran forward and cut the ropes and Simmons pulled the gag off of himself.
"Thanks…now, as much as I appreciate the rescue mission, we need to go. Now." He said and they all exchanged looks.
"I'm assuming that there's more to this than it appears?" Dany said.
"That's an understatement. They grabbed me and sent Lizzie back hurt to get you here. They knew Moody would send you because you know the area. Dan, they think that you're pregnant. Mental, right?"
"I'm eight weeks." Dany whispered, putting a hand on her stomach.
"Wait, you're actually pregnant?" Parker asked. Dany nodded.
"They can't know for sure though. No one knows outside of family." She said and Sirius moved much closer to her, covering the hand she had on her stomach with his own. Paternal instincts at their finest.
"Well they definitely know. The guy said that your combined bloodlines were perfect for what he needed it for…I don't know anything beyond that. He said it was for some spell, I think. But we need to go because he definitely isn't alone. There's a bunch of them. She needs to leave before they know that she's here." He said, turning his attention to Sirius who he was sure would agree with him immediately.
"Dan, you take Simmons back to the Department. He's hurt and you're what they want. You both need to go." Sirius said.
"No, we're going to go get Kingsley and we're all going to leave together. I'm not leaving you, any of you, with a bunch of psychos on your hands." She said and it looked like Sirius was going to argue but didn't get the chance. Kingsley had just been forced into the room by a man that looked just as dirty as the woman had. They were followed in by a number of others. Dany sized him up; he wasn't as dirty as he looked. Everything about him sent up red flags. He was dangerous. Very dangerous.
"That's very noble and brave of you all, but I don't think anyone is going anywhere." He said and threw Kingsley towards them. Sure enough, he had a posh accent. It vaguely reminded Dany of her husband's accent that marked him as old London money. Dany helped Kingsley up from where he had fallen. Kingsley inspected Simmons—making sure their friend who had been held hostage was also okay. "Now, Danilynn I think we need to have a talk." He said cheerily.
"I don't really have much to say to people that try to kill my friends. No offense or anything."
"Not very friendly, are we? Where's that sweet little girl that was the apple of her daddy's eye?" He asked condescendingly.
"She's not here at the moment. Now may I ask who exactly is trying to kill me?" She asked tightly.
"Just some people that seemed to have escaped your notice for quite a while. Believe me dear, the only reason you know about us now is because we needed you here…" He said. "It's very inconvenient that you brought so many extra people, really. I thought it would just be you and your darling husband, who would of course be driven mad by your sudden suicide and the loss of his unborn child—in his teenage home no less; he wouldn't know what he was saying when he claimed that you had been murdered." He said. Everything he did seemed condescending. Dany felt Sirius' arm wrap around her and he started to slowly pull her wand out of her back pocket, obviously hoping that no one would notice. Kingsley looked over at her—shocked by the pregnancy announcement. Dany shrugged at him a little.
"Sorry I'm not easier to kill." She said and the man laughed.
"It's just an…unfortunate side effect, really. We'd keep you if we could; you would sell for a small fortune to the right people. I'd be a rich man if I sold the beautiful Danilynn Masters to the highest bidder—of course, I'd have to market you without your married name. No one wants a married woman."
"Because buying an unmarried woman is so much more respectable; don't want your conscience to kick in." Kingsley commented sarcastically. He was ignored.
"I hear Lucius Malfoy is currently looking for something new play with. He'd give a kidney to have a plaything that was worth so much. He likes the strong ones too—they're fun to break, he says. From what I hear, you're about as strong as they come, aren't you?" He said and Dany noticed just how close he had gotten to her. He ran his finger down the side of her face in a creepily soft way and Sirius grabbed his hand and twisted his wrist short of breaking it before Dany could do anything outside of think that this was seriously disgusting.
"Get your hands off her." He snapped and shoved the man before wrapping his arm back around her. The man rolled his eyes as if this was quite ridiculous.
"This doesn't have to be violent. Or rude." The man said. Sirius was becoming pissed and worried, which made him a hazard to everyone nearby.
"Let me rephrase that then. The next time you put a hand on her will be the last time you have hands." He hissed and Dany's eyes flicked to the windows. There were five Aurors and seven people between them and the door.
Being outnumbered was always a shitty situation. Fighting their way out might be possible, if they got lucky and the other three caught on before people started dying. They had been in tighter spots than this with more powerful enemies. They could handle it. Still, Dany had to fight the urge to turn to her husband and let him do what he always wanted to do and protect her—protect their little grape.
"So protective; it appears what they say about you two is true…so, let me make this easier, Danilynn. Either step up and forfeit your life or they all die with you. Either way, you're not leaving—it's up to you how high you want the body count to be." He said bluntly and Dany examined the man's face. There was no way everyone would be leaving here, even if she gave in.
She shifted her hand on her knife and looked at Sirius. He looked back down at her and his eyes softened; he knew what she was thinking.
"Dan…there's no way that I'm going to let you—" He started and she shook her head. Parker, Simmons, and Kingsley all exchanged looks.
"This isn't your choice to make." She said. "My life isn't worth all of yours."
"She's right. This is her choice. Be flattered; it's a rare person that would give themselves up for others." He said. "Come, Danilynn." Dany looked up at Sirius, looking like she wanted to cling onto him and never let go. The man rolled his eyes. "Honestly, love is nauseating. Say your goodbyes and kiss your wife, Black. You won't get to touch that pretty body ever again, so make it good. Give her a nice last memory and don't forget to say goodbye to your baby too. It's good to get closure." Sirius looked like he wanted to snap the other man's neck.
Sirius kissed her hard and she kissed him back before whispering "now?" He winked and then killed one of the men. Dany took her wand back from him as he finally had the luxury of obviously moving around to get his. She killed a woman by the door, using killing curse for the first time since the war had ended. Parker, Simmons, and Kingsley started to duel, now that the element of surprise was gone.
Time passed and the longer they fought, the more Dany realized that these weren't random sewer rats; they were trained. Parker had taken a hit to the head and Kingsley wasn't looking too great either. Dany glanced up from her duel for a split-second to check on Sirius and in the second it took her to look up and look back, someone stabbed her and yanked the knife out, letting the blood start to hemorrhage. She looked down and saw the hole in her chest before everything blacked out. It didn't even have time to hurt.
Everything was in flashes. Sirius was telling her to stay awake. Michelle was there. Sirius was sitting with his head down and fingers laced together.
"Dany?" It was Harry. She blinked a couple of times and squinted at him. "Padfoot! Dany's awake!" Suddenly Sirius was next to her face on the other side.
"Dan? Dany, love, are you here with us?" He asked and touched her face gently. She nodded and touched the hand that was on her face and kissed his palm. It hurt to move her shoulders and arms but she ignored it. He was crying, she realized.
"Yeah…yeah, I'm okay. I'm here. Wha—?" She asked. He shook his head.
"We'll talk later, I promise. I'm going to go get Michelle and tell her you're awake." He said and kissed her forehead before leaving.
"Dany…are you going to die?" Harry asked quietly.
"What? No, of course not." She said as she propped herself up on her pillows.
"I'm really glad you're okay." He said and suddenly looked close to tears.
"I am too…how long have I been sleeping?" She asked and he bit his lip.
"I don't know if I'm supposed to tell you…" He said.
"I understand. Healers' orders are important." He nodded before hugging her carefully. Her chest burned like someone had branded her with an iron.
"I'm happy you're awake." He said. "You're the only mom I've got. I don't want to lose you." He added on and she felt the overwhelming urge to start sobbing at how sad and touching that was. Suddenly, Sirius walked back in with Michelle and Dany kissed Harry's head before he let go of her. Then Dany noticed how shitty Sirius looked; the man looked like he hadn't slept in weeks and clearly hadn't shaved in that long either. He was currently growing a beard.
"Danilynn." Michelle said, shaking her head apparently somewhat bemused.
"Michelle. I'd say it's great to see you, but I think I'll hold off."
"No offense taken. Most people don't particularly enjoy being in your position…now we need to have a little bit of a talk, alright?" Dany nodded.
"Harry, is there someone you can wait with outside?" Dany asked, directing the question to Sirius. He nodded.
"Why don't you go sit with your aunt and uncle, huh? They'll be awfully glad to hear that Dany's awake when you tell them." He said and Harry nodded in agreement before leaving. Dany looked back at Michelle once he was gone.
"Yes, well to put it quite frankly: you should be dead. You come from a family of close calls but this beats your father's bullet to the chest. You were stabbed and whoever did it had excellent understanding of human anatomy seeing that the angle should have punctured both atria in your heart. It obviously didn't and my best guess is that they overestimated your height and stabbed a little too high, only scratching the pericardium towards the atria and not actually puncturing it." She said and Dany nodded. She knew what it meant mostly. The knife had scratched the membrane around her heart. They had been counting on her being taller. Two of the four chambers in her heart were supposed to rupture.
"I would have been dead before I hit the ground." She said absently. Michelle nodded and Sirius winced. "How long have I been out?"
"Dan…" Sirius started and she glared at him.
"How long, Sirius?" She asked sharply.
"Today makes eleven days." He said and sat down in a chair next to her head.
"What? eleven days? Why so long?" Michelle sat down next to her. Shit.
"We kept you sedated at first, just to make sure that things were healing right before we woke you up. We tried to pull you off the sedative about a week ago and you had massive seizures on two different occasions and started to go into cardiac arrest so we put you back on the potions to prevent any further damage to your body and waited for a few more days before weaning you off. The sedatives have been out of your system for almost four days now; we didn't know why you weren't waking up and we didn't know if you'd ever wake up." She said and Dany nodded.
"Well, that's fantastic." She said dryly and glanced at Sirius. He had been way too quiet. "What else?" Michelle looked down for a moment before looking at her.
"It's about the baby."
