Alright Alright Alright~~ Here's number 4/5 my Angels! Honestly this was the first time I got this ship. I love it and find it adorable to be honest!~ I couldn't think of anything at the top of my head on how to do it in the One Piece story, so I decided to make this an AU! Which it turned out just as good!
This was a request made by a guest! (Once again please try to put a name with a request) I hope you like it my Angel!~ I certainly had fun making it for you!
Remember to put a name/title to your request if you make one! It doesn't have to be your real name, just something you can be called.
"Hyah! Hyah! Hyah!"
A kendo member practices in the dojo early in the morning in white pants and his bare chest glistening in the light. His green hair was slightly spiked and his eyes shined fiercely as swing after swing he stepped forward one step and then back, practicing with ferocity. Sweat was dripping off of him everywhere showing he had been at it for awhile.
"Do you ever stop practicing Zoro?"
Zoro turned to find a woman with dark bluish black hair standing there with shining eyes of her own in excitement. She was about two years older than Zoro, but much smaller in stature and much more petite. If anything Zoro looked like he was the older one with his broad angled face and sharp features while the woman had soft delicate features and a feminine body.
"Why stop? Kuina you know better than that." Zoro teased her, giving her a cocky smile as he rested the bamboo swords down by his side and relaxed his stance.
The two had been friends since they were children. When Zoro stumbled upon the dojo ran by her father Koshiro, he had finally met his match in sports. At first he wasn't sure about swordsmanship and the like, but after sparring with others he felt invigorated by the feeling of hitting another with the bamboo sword. As children the two of them would spar and Kuina would win every time. To the point of winning 2001 consecutive wins against Zoro who was one of the best in his class.
"You'll never defeat me," Kuina teased, knowing there were times he came very close, and sometimes he actually got her to give. She knew Zoro was growing in power in the art of Kendo, and her father favored him over everyone else due to his abilities.
"We'll see about that," Zoro said with a smirk, tossing an extra bamboo stick at her.
Kuina got the hint and smiled back at him cockily. "Don't cry when you lose again," She took off her shoes and socks, walking across the wood floor with bare feet, which was custom to do in dojos.
She took a deep breath in and as she let it out she raised her sword up, putting it in front of her. Zoro smiled and wiped his forehead, clearing his eyes of the sweat that was trying to fall down and block his view. He lifted his three swords and put one in either hand and the last one in his mouth.
"Three swords again? You sure are stuck on mastering that technique." Kuina laughed, shaking her head slightly in exasperation. "Y'know first you're supposed to master one sword and move up."
"Shut up," He chuckled back at her, knowing it was her way of trying to irritate him and throw him off his game. She acted cocky and tries to distract him from what his goal is.
"Any rules?" She asked, moving her eyebrows up and down, making him shake his head in disbelief at her antics.
"None," He told her, bracing his feet shoulder length apart and slightly hunching his body so he had the right position to attack any time he needed to. Kuina smiled mischievously, loving the sound of anything goes in any kind of duel. The thought of using whatever skill she needed reminded her of the time her and Zoro fought and she wanted to give up her dream of becoming the best. He ended up knocking some sense into her with telling her it was skill that made a swordsman and not strength as her father told her all the time.
"3….2….1….GO!" She shouted, launching off of her back foot and going for an attack straight off the bat.
Zoro dodged effortlessly, hitting her sword with one of his own and twisting around in a circle, trying to clip her on the shoulder in a surprise attack. She saw it though and swiveled her sword quickly knocking one of his swords away and blocking the other two in one swing. Zoro gritted his teeth on the sword in his mouth, struggling to push against her as she had her feet spread evenly and could use more pressure on her sword. They jumped away from one another and stood ready for the next attack from either one.
"One sword down," She teased, glancing at the sword that was no on the floor away from him.
Zoro grabbed the sword in his mouth and put it in his other hand. "Hmph, only means you have more to worry about."
"Yeah, right." She said, rolling her eyes.
This time Zoro was the first to attack as he pushed off his foot and launched towards her with his swords out on either side of him. His arms lashed out every which way, attacking her from every angle and trying to find some kind of weak spot in her defense. She walked backwards as she blocked every hit with her sword, following his movement with her eyes as if it were going slowly in front of her. She smirked and planted her foot slightly past her shoulder and swung it towards his right hand, watching as he instantly went to block and in accordance to that her sword hit his at the right angle, flinging it away from him also.
"Oh~ Too bad," She said with a grin that spread from ear to ear.
Zoro shook his head and furrowed his brows, unbelieving that she was actually getting to his head. She had a sneaky way of doing that to him. He wasn't backing down though as he began swinging his one sword left with both his hands, using swiftness and strength, along with speed to his advantage. Swinging three swords was so different from one sword and left your mind more focused on the one sword left while also not having to disperse your efforts and skills to three different ones. Back and forth they walked as they attacked and defended one another.
Their skills were nearly equaled out as neither was giving and it seemed like the battle would never end. Kuina however could feel the tiredness hit her, and her speed was decreasing as she swung repeatedly. This was why Zoro trained so much in the more with his swings. He was building muscle and getting his body used to the repetitive motion of swinging back and forth, and up and down.
Zoro took the moment of her mind wander to hit her sword hard, she blocked as he expected, hitting his sword up with a clack. He spun the sword in his left hand to where he was holding the hilt back handed, before spinning and hitting her in the side. The last thing you hear is the clack of bamboo hitting something solid and its echo in the dojo before silence fills the room aside from their heavy breathing.
Kuina straightened up, as did Zoro, as they faced one another and bowed, a respectful way of saying thanks for the battle. Kuina stood up again and smiled before dropping to the floor on her butt, out of breath and sweating heavily.
"What's wrong? Couldn't keep up?" Zoro teased, doing the same across from her. It wasn't until recent years that he was able to stay on par with her. Every other battle was a mystery on who would win now, and sometimes it was due to pure luck that he would win.
"Shut up!" She laughed, tossing her sword at him jokingly, making him catch it and put it down with his other one.
"Ah! There you two are!" Koshiro said excitedly, walking into the dojo with his arms out wide. His smile was wide as he looked at Zoro and then landed on Kuina and sighed, giving an exasperated look towards his daughter who was covered in sweat. "Kuina, I told you that you have to be ready for that meeting." He put his hands up and flicked them towards her, shooing her from the dojo. "Go, go, you must look your best for this interview."
"Hai, hai," She sighed, looking completely unenthused about the idea of going to this interview. She got up and walked to the back of the dojo where the door connected to her house.
"What interview?" Zoro wondering, thinking it was something with her kendo skills that would help her improve her dream.
Koshiro looked down at Zoro once more and smiled widely, placing his hands on his hips with excitement. "A marriage interview! My little Kuina will get married soon! All she has to do is approve of one of the candidates from other dojo's and we can combine the two together!"
Zoro was left speechless as he stared at his teacher. Kuina had never mentioned anything about a marriage interview. Did she not want him knowing that bad? Or was it something she thought he shouldn't know because of their relationship with one another? It was true that him being her childhood friend could ruin a romantic relationship for her marriage partner, but he thought she would have at least warned him before it all happened.
"Oh," Was all he said as he stood up and began to clean up the swords from the floor. He quickly cleaned up the swords and wiped the floors of his sweat, making the dojo completely clean once more.
"Ready!" Kuina said with a smile. She hopped from the doorway in a white dress and a blue ribbon in her hair, which was finely kept neatly, and a little amount of makeup was on her face. She stopped and her smile dropped from her face as Zoro stood there in shock, looking at the feminine Kuina who he had never seen before. "Oh, Zoro, you're still here."
She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and shuffled her feet in embarrassment while she looked down at the floor. Zoro's eyes darkened as he grabbed his white shirt and black belt. "I was just leaving." He grumbled. "See you tomorrow Sensei." He bowed to Koshiro and slipped on his shoes quickly.
"Ah! Zoro! Wait!" Kuina pleaded, quickly running across the dojo towards Zoro who was standing up and beginning to walk away.
"Have fun at your marriage interview," He said in a low voice, trying to keep his irritation at bay. He didn't even turn to look at her as he walked off with his back towards them.
Zoro didn't go early the next morning to the dojo, instead he waited till the afternoon to finally show up. He didn't want to run into Kuina there and have to deal with the awkwardness between them. The look on her face yesterday was all Zoro needed to see to show she didn't want him knowing she was having marriage interviews.
"Kuina! You must choose a partner! If you don't I won't have anyone to take over the dojo!"
Zoro stopped as he was sitting in the dojo taking off his shoes. The shouting was getting louder as they barged through the house loudly.
"I told you I don't want to choose any of them!" Kuina shouted back to her father, just as close as he was.
Zoro stood up in confusion, yet at the same time he wanted to run off at the sound of Kuina's voice. Before he could turn and leave the back door to the dojo flew open with an enraged Kuina standing there in the doorway. Her eyes connected with Zoro's as he took a step back in surprise. Her eyes lightened up and she smiled as she speed walked over to him quickly, leaning towards him with glee in her eyes. He leaned backwards as his mouth was clamped shut. He wasn't sure what was going on, but the gleam in her eyes told him he wasn't going to like what she was going to do next.
"Kuina! Why can't you just choose one!?" Her father shouted as he appeared in the doorway as well. He spotted Zoro and sighed. "Oh! Hello Zoro, time for practice?"
Zoro began to nod, but was cut off as Kuina turned to look at her father with determination. "I don't want to choose any of them because me and Zoro are together!"
Zoro stood stock still in his spot as the words sunk into him. He stared at Koshiro and vice versa as both men were unsure of what was just said. Zoro began to sweat, and Koshiro must have taken that as agreement (aka, nervousness of boyfriend meets father). Koshiro slumped his shoulders and let out a deep breath as he pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to take it all in.
"So you're saying you and Zoro are in a romantic relationship?" Koshiro asked, looking back up at the children who were standing there looking at him. "How long?"
Zoro opened his mouth to argue against what Kuina had said when she grabbed his hand and squeezed tight; her way of saying shut the hell up. She gave him a glance out of the corner of her eye and shook her head ever so slightly, showing her signal was right.
"About a year now," She lied straight through her teeth, showing no sign of what she said was false.
"Why should I accept that as an answer at all?" Koshiro asked, walking towards them with his arms crossed.
"You accept Zoro as your top student, do you not?" Kuina argued, standing her ground with her foot planted and her chin in the air. "Besides, Zoro could easily defeat any of the other dojo's, AND he's defeated me already, countless times! If Zoro isn't acceptable, then none of those interviews are!"
Koshiro looked from Kuina to Zoro repeatedly, making Zoro's head spin in disbelief. Since when have him and Kuina been dating?! What the hell was going on in this conversation? Was he being put into a battle between dojo's? Was he having to face Sensei? He wasn't sure what was going on. And Kuina hanging onto his hand made it even more confusing.
"Prove it," Koshiro said, narrowing his eyes at his daughter who faltered for one moment. She wasn't sure exactly to prove it. Obviously Zoro wasn't going to help her in any of this due to him being in utter confusion, and she knew that she'd have some explaining to do with him later if she made it out of this alive against her father.
"Fine," She grumbled, turning on her heel and standing on the tops of her toes. She leaned up towards Zoro as she pulled his neck down towards her. Their lips connected gently as Kuina pushed into Zoro. His hand automatically went to her hip, clutching onto her in confusion as his head tried to make sense of what she was doing.
He pushed her away from him slightly, making Koshiro raise an eyebrow in question to his behavior. "Why…..? in front of sensei…..!" He couldn't make complete sentences in his head as he so many questions running amuck in his brain. But to Koshiro it sounded like a question towards Kuina about their PDA (public display of affection).
Koshiro let his smile crack across his face before a boisterous laugh erupted out of him. He patted Zoro on the shoulder, his eyes beaming in pride and joy as he looked at Zoro. "It's okay Zoro! No need to hide your relationship now! It seems Kuina is hooked on you and won't take anyone else!" He laughed again as he made eye contact with his daughter who smiled innocently as if she wasn't lying to him. "She's right though. If I had to choose anyone, it would be you! Good luck to you both! I'll be looking forward to having you as a son!"
Koshiro patted him on the shoulder once more before walking off out of the dojo, ready to tell people about the outcome of Kuina's marriage proposal. The door shut loudly in the quiet room and finally snapped Zoro out of his stupor. He snapped his head towards Kuina with his jaw agape as she smiled and wiggled her fingers at him, trying to play off the innocentness that she supposedly had in all of this.
"What the hell is going on?!" Zoro shouted loudly, wanting explanations then and now about what was going on in this situation.
"It's a long story," She said, giving a cheeky smile and pushing her pointer fingers together. "For now, come with me,"
She grabbed his hand before he could argue and pulled him into their house. Up the stairs they went and down the hall before entering her room where she looked up and down the hall before slamming her door shut and locking it. Zoro didn't like the look of the situation already.
Kuina turned to look at him and giggled as he was splayed against the wall, trying to keep out of her reach. She waved her hand at him, showing nothing was going to happen. "Oh, don't look at me like that. Nothing is going to happen now." She sighed and sat on the bed, patting the spot next to her, so he would sit with her.
Hesitantly he walked over and sat next to her, sitting there for a moment in silence with her before he finally relaxed. "So…."
"I don't want to get married," She said suddenly, making Zoro look at her in shock. "My father set up those marriage interviews hoping I'd choose one, but I never had any intention of choosing any of them." She sighed and stretched her arms above her. "You just happened to be there as I was thinking up an excuse so my father would drop it."
"So I'm a scapegoat?" Zoro asked. He let out a deep breath as she nodded her head. Somehow he was glad that all of that wasn't on something he didn't understand, and that he was just being used to get out of something. Yet at the same time he felt disappointed that he was used as a lie and she didn't believe in any of it.
"I want to continue my dream. But my father won't let me take over the dojo, so I needed to find a way out of it. We can just call it off after a few weeks and my father will probably drop the marriage for awhile." Kuina said, shrugging her shoulders in hope and guessing.
Zoro looked up at the ceiling, thinking it through his head. He glanced at Kuina and looked her over. She was still in one of her dresses that really made her look like a woman, and she had extensions in her hair to make it seem longer. It was a side of Kuina Zoro never knew she had. He knew many sides of Kuina, and thought he knew them all, but obviously he was still learning about the different sides of her that she can only show to one person. Zoro clenched his fist at the thought of that one person being someone other than him. He didn't like the idea of someone knowing Kuina more than he did. He was the closest to her and he wanted to keep it that way.
He shocked himself with his thoughts and the direction that it turned towards. It was probably because of the topic of conversation they just had with dating and marriage…yeah, that's it…..no…..he knew deep down that he had been thinking that way for a long time, he just didn't want to admit it and always shut out the thoughts as if they weren't real and didn't exist. He was so hooked on his own goal in the future and how he was going to achieve it, that he didn't want to see one of the many other goals that was right in front of him.
Zoro took in a deep breath through his nose, before letting it out through his mouth, calming himself in the same way he did with kendo. "Let's get married then,"
Silence filled the room as this time Kuina was left in confusion and shock. The words slowly sunk into her and the silence and wait was killing Zoro with every second. She looked over at Zoro with wide eyes, wondering what exactly he was thinking.
"What?" She breathed out, looking at him with confusion plain across her face.
Zoro breathed in and out again before rubbing his neck and looking over at her. He turned his body so he was facing her head on. "I won't stop you from reaching your goal. If anything we can help each other and push one another to become greater. I can take over the dojo with you in co-ownership, and your father won't argue." He stopped, letting her take everything in that he was thinking. "If we get married, nothing will go wrong with our plans."
Kuina blinked, slowly processing everything as he explained his plan to her. She now felt what he had felt moments ago with the increasing conversation going on that was leaving her in a jumbled mess of muck in her brain. "But why?"
Zoro sighed and rubbed at his neck again, finding this incredibly difficult the more she questioned it. He wasn't good at putting emotions into words, and it was like his brain was having a hard time putting the words together even.
"Because…." He stopped, gulping as his throat suddenly became dry and he felt like there was a frog in his throat stopping all talking. He stifled a cough into his hand, dislodging the frog and looking her directly in the eye. "Because….I love you."
His face had gone completely red with his ears and neck. He felt like his whole head was a volcano that had just erupted and was spewing molting hot magma everywhere. He wanted her to say something, but she was sitting there with her jaw agape as if she didn't know what to say.
"Zoro….." She said, making his heart jump into his throat. He was scared she was going to refuse. It was as if he could already hear it coming from her mouth. "….is that true?"
It wasn't what he expected to come from her. He looked up at her and saw the blush that had crept it's way across her face as well. She looked so feminine right there that it made him even more nervous. He was seeing her in so many different ways in just this past hour than he had seen ever in their lifetime. He nodded his head furiously, unable to make words come out that he wanted to say.
"Really?" She asked, water building up in her eyes. "Really? Really?"
Zoro nodded his head again and again. "yeah," He finally got out. He reached out a hand towards her and wiped the tears that was building up in her eyes. His thumb gently took them away as he held her face and had the courage to place his forehead against hers gently.
"MM!" She said, nodding against his forehead. She was trying hard not to cry. For so long she thought her feelings were one sided with Zoro and now she found out he feels the same! "Let's get married!" She said excitedly, a smile cracking her face in half at how happy she was. "Let's get married!" She repeated.
