Larry the Cactus did not appreciate moving to such a damp and cold place. He'd really enjoyed the arid climate of their previous home, a land called Arizona. But suddenly one day he was being scooped up out of his nice, dry dirt by his only friend, stuffed into a tiny pot, and whisked through a series of landscapes so terrifying that he wasn't sure his spines would ever fully recover.

However, given the most recent development in the life of his best friend, he would almost rather spend the rest of his life in the tiny, fast moving metal box they were in for 4 days.

Larry noticed the strange creature before his best friend ever did. One of the first nights they were in the horrible new cold place, (it was called something about forks; Larry didn't really understand) BF (as he thought of her) was sprawled across the bed, snoring, when Larry saw something at the window. He didn't know what it was at first, but he stiffened out his spines as much as possible. He was getting a weird feeling from whatever was outside the window.

Just as he was trying to stretch his little cactus body up to it's tallest, most intimidating height (approximately 2.4 inches) he heard a screech coming from the window.

It was opening! And that was when Larry saw it for the first time. The strange creature. Due to his less than substantial size, the creature didn't notice Larry, even though he was puffing out his spines as much as possible, they were really sharp! The creature should be afraid!

Yet, the creature continued to train his gaze on BF. Larry was really confused, this creature was definitely not the same as BF, but he also didn't seem like any other plants or creatures he'd ever seen before. Then the creature smiled, and Larry saw the silvery glint of it's teeth. It was then Larry knew, this creature was going to be the death of BF. He felt it all the way into his wet, squishy insides.

And then something miraculous happened! Larry was so worried for BF, she'd always taken such good care of him (except for bringing him to this awful place), he had to try and get that creature away from her. And suddenly, his little terra cotta pot rattled forward half an inch.

The creature turned toward him. Larry got a clear look at it's face for the first time. There was some kind of giant nest of hair on top of its head and its lips were strangely red, the eyes wild, and grossly pale skin. Like, really gross. Like a jellyfish or something. Larry had seen a jellyfish on the computer when BF was doing research for something called a report.

The rattling of his pot settled, and the creature was right in front of Larry now. It tilted it's head to the side, and reached out a finger to poke a spine. Larry made it as pointy as possible, but it didn't seem to bother the creature at all! And worst of all, it's finger was freezing! Even colder than when BF put his pot next to the window, thinking he'd like the sun. It doesn't help when a freezing cold pane of glass is between him and a weak ray.

Before Larry could summon another miracle dive into the creature's face, BF snored extra loud and flopped over in bed. Larry turned his attention toward her, and when he looked back, the creature was gone, the window shut.

There was no evidence the creature had been there at all, except for the lingering cold on one of his pointiest spines. Larry knew this creature was no good, and if it ever came back for BF again, he would be ready.
