"You're running for Homecoming Queen?" Tyler exclaimed as he stared at Ruby in shock.
"Will you shut up?" Ruby hissed as they skated around school. She looked around to see if anyone had heard him and turned back to him. "It's not Homecoming Queen, it's Homecoming Junior Princess. Only seniors can be queen." Ruby explained and Tyler just stared at her dumbfounded. "My mom is making, okay?" She sighed.
"I hope you win." Tyler smirked and Ruby glared at him.
"Shut up." She muttered before pushing him.
"What? You don't want to win?" Tyler asked quickly regaining his balance.
"No! It's bad enough I have to wear some frilly dress." She told him while she grinded a rail.
"Oh c'mon! I bet it's not even frilly and I bet you'll look good." Tyler said as she rolled her eyes. "I bet Shawn will like it." He smirked.
"Oh my God! He's going to see me in some stupid dress!" She groaned.
"And he's going to like it on you." He told her reassuringly. "I really think you're being overdramatic about the dress. I really doubt it's that bad." He shrugged and she just glared at him.
"I hate Homecoming." She muttered. Once class was in session, the halls were empty except for one lone person walking through them. He was a red hedgehog with white and black markings on his arms and face. His eyes pitch black and he held little expression in his face. His phone started to ring and he answered it quickly.
"Hello?" He answered in a monotone.
"Razor it's me, Damian." Damian said on the other line. Razor continued to walk the halls of the school looking right and left for any sign of witnesses.
"What is it, Damian?" He asked as he started to walk through the main hall.
"Have you checked out the school?" Damian asked as Razor looked up and down the halls.
"Yes." He said stopping in the middle of the hall.
"So, can you join us?" Damian asked.
"Yes." Razor said.
"So, the job can be done then?" Damian asked. Razor peeked down another hall and saw Lazarus walking with AJ. He smirked and turned back around holding his phone.
"Consider it done." He said before hanging up. He ran out of the school and super speed and it didn't go unnoticed. Lazarus turned around at the sound of someone running away, but saw no one. He shrugged and turned back to AJ who was still moping.
"I'm telling you AJ, it's all going to be worth it." Lazarus said as walked with AJ back to class.
"Whatever." AJ said before walking back into class. Lazarus sighed heavily and hoped that AJ would at least be pumped when they perform tonight.
School ended relatively quickly and everybody was practically sprinting out of the school to prepare for tonight. The bands competing in Battle of the Bands were quick to head to practice while the football players headed to their practice. AJ showed up to Derek's house to practice and pack their equipment after school since Lazarus had football practice. Derek wasn't in school today, but AJ figured it was because he needed some vocal rest. His voice had been a little hoarse this week.
"Derek, c'mon! Open the door!" AJ shouted as he banged on the door when he didn't answer for several minutes. Derek opened the door and coughed.
"I can't sing." He choked out his voice sounding rough and scratchy. "I have laryngitis." He said as AJ groaned.
"What are we going to do?" AJ asked before he called Lazarus. He hoped Lazarus was on some kind of break that he'd answer his phone. Luck was on his side today. "Lazarus! We have a problem. Derek has laryngitis." AJ spoke into his as he walked into Derek's house.
"Shit! What are we going to do?" Lazarus asked.
"Why do you think I'm calling you?" AJ exclaimed. There was a long pause and AJ didn't say anything because he knew Lazarus was trying to figure out how to fix this mess.
"I think I have an idea. Just practice the song and bring everything. I'll see you guys later." He told him before hanging up. AJ sighed while Derek looked at the clock nervously. At the Mondair home, Andrew was pacing in his room thinking about how he could ask Ebony to be his girlfriend. He and the band weren't meeting till later and were practicing all the way up to game so he had to figure out what he was going to do now.
"Hey Ebony, good game, do you want to be my girlfriend? Nah, that's lame." He muttered shaking his head.
"Having girl problems, Dandy Andy?" Nicole asked leaning against his doorframe.
"Do you really have to keep calling me that? It's bad enough that Mom does it still." Andrew mumbled and Nicole laughed before walking into his room.
"Do you want my help or not?" She asked leaning on his desk.
"Depends, if it's any good." He said as she bent down and whispered her idea in his ear. "And that is very good indeed." Andrew said leaning back in his chair.
"I'm your sister, I always have good ideas." She said as he rolled his eyes.
Back at the school, the players were working hard. And I mean hard. With Shadow and Knuckles as the new coaches there was no slack being had. The two of them worked the players as if they were drill sergeants in the military.
"Run the play again!" Knuckles yelled pointedly looking at Shade. Knuckled sighed before turning to Shadow. "Shadow, he's your son and it was your position. Please, tell Shade to work harder and clean up his passes. He's being sloppy and taking too long to throw the ball." Knuckles told him.
"Talk to the defense players. I'll talk to the offense." Shadow said as Knuckles blew his whistle.
"Defense players come with me, offense go with Shadow!" He ordered as the players walked to the coaches. Bolt, Shade, and Ebony went to Shadow and Brice, Conner, Julian, and Lazarus went over to Knuckles.
"What is the objective of the offensive players?" Shadow asked as all the offense players kneeled around him. An orange hedgehog raised his hand timidly and Shadow rolled his eyes. "This is not a classroom! Just say it!" Shadow scolded as the hedgehog's hand fell back to his side.
"To score touchdowns." Ebony said answering her father.
"Right. Now what is so Goddamn hard about that? What I'm seeing here today is horrible! All your passes are sloppy, you're relying too much on time that's not there, and don't even get me started on your guys' catching!" Shadow shouted as the players' heads dropped. "You guys want to win this game?" Shadow asked as they all nodded. "Then get your asses together and play your heart out!" He yelled as they all stood up.
"Tornadoes on three!" Shade shouted as he put his hand in the center. Everybody shortly put their hands in and started moving them up and down.
"One! Two! Three! Tornadoes!" The players shouted as they returned to the field for practice.
Suzy was standing with Emily Romaro before the big game started in her cheerleading outfit. The stands were filled with students and parents waiting for the game to start. Suzy was cheering along with the others keeping the crowd entertained, but she was trying her hardest to find Shade. She soon spotted him on the side of the bleachers motioning her to come over. She slyly walked over to him to see him dressed in his uniform.
"Hey, good luck tonight!" She smiled before kissing him on the lips. She was about to pull away, but he wrapped his arms around her waist bringing her closer to him. When he pulled away she felt light headed and dazed. "Wow, if I get that kind of reaction. I'll say good luck to you everyday." She said and he laughed.
"I just wanted to see you before the big game." He told her looking kind of nervous. She noticed and held his hand in hers.
"Don't worry, you'll do great. I know you will." She said as he smiled. She kissed him on the lips one more time before she walked back out.
"Hmm? What was that?" Ivy said stopping Suzy before she could get back to the other cheerleaders. She turned around to see Ivy and Flash there both smiling smugly.
"Nothing." She said blushing as Ivy laughed.
"You better be carful. AJ may be in a rut now, but if he sees you two together, he'll explode." Ivy said as Suzy rolled her eyes.
"He's not even here yet." Suzy waved dismissively as Ivy shrugged her shoulders and walked to the bleachers holding Flash's hand. Derek and AJ were on the side of the stands where Derek was trying to get AJ hyped because he was supposed to announce the teams.
"AJ seriously you have to do the announcement of the teams in like five minutes!" Derek wheezed as AJ shrugged. Todd, Jillian, Alex, Juliana, and Alena walked by and spotted AJ looking down and Derek about to die from talking so much with a hoarse voice.
"Still in a rut?" Todd asked as Derek nodded.
"He has to do the announcements and he's not even making a move." Derek explained and Todd looked over at his son who was staring at the ground. Todd shrugged before handing Alena to Jillian and stretching his arms.
"I guess I'll have to do it." Todd sighed and AJ's eyes widened.
"No! I'm going! I'm going!" AJ yelled running up to the announcer's box. He took a deep breath and put on his happy façade. Trying to forget about Amber and get excited for the game.
"What's going on CMHS?" He yelled into the microphone as everybody in the stands cheered and screamed. "Who's going to win tonight?" He asked as everybody on the home side stood up and cheered.
"Tornadoes!" Everybody yelled as the cheerleaders jumped up and down encouraging them to cheer on their team.
"I can't hear you!" AJ shouted.
"TORNADOES!" They all yelled and AJ smirked.
"That's right! Let's bring 'em on out!" He cheered as he pointed to the banner that the cheerleaders were holding that said, "Tornadoes!" Rap music began to play as Shade led the team through the banner and onto the field. All the players could be seen and everybody erupted in loud cheered.
"I love you Bolt!" A girl yelled right behind where Chrissy was seating. Chrissy turned around and glared at the girl while wearing Bolt's jersey.
"Excuse me?" She asked while glaring at the girl.
"Nothing." She mumbled cowering under Chrissy's glare. Chrissy rolled her eyes before turning around and Lauren just looked at her.
"What?" She asked and Lauren just shook her head and laughed.
"Now let's bring out the visitors! The NYMS Tigers!" AJ announced while the visitor's side cheered and the home side either clapped politely or booed. The quarterback of the team was a very muscular, light blue fox with gold eyes. The team's school colors were black and orange and they stormed onto the field.
"Let's get this game started!" AJ shouted as everybody cheered again. AJ handed the microphone off to the official sports commentators before leaving the booth. He met up with Derek and returned to his slump making Derek roll his eyes.
The game started and Shade stayed focused on the game, ignoring the cheers and jeers from the crowd. Once he had the ball he looked for his opening and threw it to Charlie the Cheetah who made it passed the mark for a first down before he was tackled. On the next play Shade passed the ball to Ebony who bobbed and weaved through all of the Tigers' defenses and scored the first touchdown of the game. Everybody cheered loudly and Andrew was practically ripping Roddy's arm off as he pointed and cheered for Ebony. Ebony smiled as she ran back towards her team, but not without a guy from the other team slapped her butt. She immediately turned around and grabbed his helmet and shoving him on his ass.
"That's my girl!" Shadow cheered from the sideline as Knuckles rolled his eyes. The offense and defense switched out and the Tigers' had control over the ball. The quarterback was snapped the ball and he passed it to his running back, but he didn't make it far before being sidelined by Brice
"That's my boy!" Knuckles smirked as Shadow rolled his eyes. They started again with the quarterback faking a pass and running down the field. Conner and Lazarus were hot on his heels and both tackled him at the twenty-yard line. Lazarus cursed as he got up. He could've gotten him a lot faster if he didn't have the stupid inhibitor bracelet on him. Before the game the whole team had to put a bracelet on to stop their powers since the visiting school was not super powered. He returned to his position and waited for the play to start. The quarterback was about to pass the ball to a coyote, but Julian sacked him. Julian smiled in satisfaction as he got up and looked at the quarterback on the ground.
"Welcome to the West Coast!" He smirked as he ran off to his position. The quarterback faked again and ran into the end zone and Brice cursed scoring a touchdown for their team. The game continued with Ebony scoring one more and Bolt scoring one with Shade getting their team to field goal range once. The other team was right on their trail scoring though making this game even more intense. At halftime, the score was 24 to 21 with the Tornadoes leading.
Lazarus, Bolt, and Shade ran into the locker room to change quickly since they were performing during the half-time show, but they still had to sit through the halftime ripping that the team received from Knuckles and Shadow. Lazarus raced out of the locker room before Shade and Bolt and pushed through the sea of people to find Topaz. When he spotted her, he pushed her way more aggressively calling her name. She turned around and looked at him confused while Tsunami stood next to her proudly wearing Lazarus' jersey.
"What is it?" She asked once Lazarus reached them. He put his hands on his knees and was trying to catch his breath. "Are you alright?" She asked and he raised a finger up signaling her to hold on. He quickly stood back up and kissed Tsunami who smiled happily.
"Okay, I needed to do that. Anyways, we need a lead singer and Tusi told me you're a great singer." He explained and she looked at him in shock.
"Uh yeah, not happening. Tsunami, why would you tell him that?" Topaz asked glaring at her and she rolled her eyes.
"Because you're an amazing singer and need to show your talent to the world!" Tsunami told her and Topaz frowned.
"Please!" Lazarus pleaded getting on his knees and bringing his hands together.
"I'm sorry Lazarus, but there's no way I'm doing that." Topaz told him crossing her arms.
"Please!" He and Tsunami begged together and they both made kitty eyes. Topaz rolled her eyes and stood her ground.
"No!" She told them firmly before turning around. What she saw when she turned around though was some cheerleader talking to Onyx and obviously flirting. She was twirling the hair from her ponytail and tilting her head back and forth while Onyx looked at her uncomfortably. "Who is that?" She asked narrowing her eyes towards the girl.
"That's Onyx's ex. She broke up with him last year for the captain of the soccer team." Lazarus explained. "Seems like she's interested in him again." He mused purposely trying to egg Topaz on. Topaz fumed silently in her spot as she glared daggers into the girl's head. "The song we plan to perform would be the perfect way to stick it to her." He murmured. She whirled around and looked at Lazarus and Tsunami.
"Fine! I'll do it!" She agreed before stomping off towards where the bands were meeting and Lazarus and Tsunami high-fived. Julian walked out onto the stage they had set up in the middle of the football field wearing jeans and his other jersey. Since AJ was performing he couldn't be the MC for the halftime show and Julian was happy to accept the position.
"Who's ready for Battle of the Bands?" He asked as everybody cheered. "Man I am too, but first!" He exclaimed holding up his hand. "We have to announce the winners of the Homecoming Princesses!" He announced as people cheered. Ruby was standing off to the side and she cursed everyone who had voted for her. It wasn't even required! Who cared enough to even vote for something like this?
"Freshman Princess is Anne McCurry!" Julian announced and Ruby walked out as she walked onto the field nervously. Ruby looked at herself one more time that someone had brought and sighed. Tyler was right when he said the dress wouldn't be that bad, but she really didn't feel like herself when she was all gussied up like this.
Ruby was wearing a strapless black dress with a sweetheart neckline. The dress was floor-length and covered in a lace design with some sequin detailing here and there. Her dreads were unwrapped and Rouge had curled them and they were all pulled to the side. She was wearing a lot more makeup than her usual eyeliner and while she had to admit, she did look pretty, she also felt uncomfortable. That could also be due to the platform heels she was wearing. She sighed when she watched the Sophomore Princess walk out and could only hope that Shawn was too busy with his band to be paying attention to this.
"And finally, please help me welcome our Junior Princess, Ruby the Echidna-Bat!" Julian announced and she was handed a bouquet of flowers and directed to walk out. Shawn had only been half-attentive to what was going on, but he practically choked on his saliva when he heard Ruby's name.
"Dude, is that your girlfriend?" Bolt asked as he stared at her in shock. Shawn placed his hand on Bolt's face and shoved him away as he stared at Ruby, who looked absolutely stunning. Everybody was cheering for her, even Knuckles came out of the locker room to cheer loudly for his daughter. Rouge was on her seat clapping happily and taking pictures while Tyler and Onyx were whooping and holding up her board. Julian hugged her and she elbowed him in the side for his snide comment, but kept smiling for the crowd.
"Give it up for our Homecoming Princesses one more time!" Julian announced as the crowd cheered and all three of them walked off the stage. "Now, let's get this Battle of the Bands started!" Julian shouted as the crowd cheered louder. "Our first band is comprised of Senior Derek Stanson, Sophomores Lazarus the Panther and AJ the Hedgehog, and Junior Topaz the Hedgehog." He said and Onyx whipped his head up in confusion. "Please welcome, Absolute Fire!" He announced before running off stage.
"What?" Onyx babbled hopelessly with his jaw slacked. Topaz, AJ, Lazarus, and Derek all walked onto stage and took their places and Onyx was still staring slack-jawed. Tyler looked over to him and pushed his jaw up, but it just fell back down. Topaz took a deep breath as she looked out at the crowd in front of her, but she quickly steeled her nerves and grabbed the microphone in her hands. AJ hit his drums once before Lazarus and Derek joined him shredding on their guitars. Topaz pulled the microphone off the stage as she spotted Onyx in the stands and pointed at him.

Onyx was still watching her slack-jawed while everybody around him was cheering her and the rest of the guys on. Tsunami was jumping up and down cheering constantly feeling immense pride for her boyfriend and one of her best friends. Liecy and Tyler looked over to Onyx again and he still looked like he was stuck in some kind of daze.
"Should we help him?" Liecy asked and Tyler shrugged.
"I'm not really sure what to do." He mumbled and Liecy waved her hand in front of his face and nothing. "Ruby in a dress, Onyx turning into a zombie, weirdest Homecoming yet." Tyler muttered making Liecy laugh.

Topaz held out the note at the end of the word "so" before singing the next line softly while people went crazy for her. She was singing looking straight at the cheerleader who was Onyx's ex and Suzy seem to pick up on that. Suzy smirked before walking up to his ex all the while Topaz smiled.
"You know, Kara, that's Onyx's new girlfriend." Suzy told her pointing to Topaz.
"What?" Kara gasped and watched as the gum dropped out of her mouth.
"Yeah, he's the happiest I've ever seen him." Suzy smirked and Kara sneered at her.

Topaz was pointing to Kara and Kara sneered and glared at her, but Topaz just smiled and had her fun. Once Topaz finished the bridge the guys all rocked out on their instruments while Topaz danced around stage and amped up the crowd. Derek bent forward while Lazarus flipped over him all the while they continued to play. Derek and Lazarus dropped out while AJ wailed on the guitars and Topaz brought the microphone to her lips.

Lazarus and Derek joined right back in and they finished the last chorus, together as a band, strong. Topaz wrapped her arm around Lazarus' shoulders and belted out the words and notes while everybody jumped onto their feet and cheered for her. Tyler looked over to Onyx to see him still in a state of shock and slapped him across his face. Onyx snapped out of it to see Topaz singing her heart out on stage. He smiled before standing on his chair and cheering loudly for her.

They all finished rocking out three more notes before tossing their hands up in the air. Everybody was on their feet cheering from them and AJ walked out from behind his drum set. They all stood together in a line holding their hands up before bowing while people cheered again. Onyx was jumping up and down from his seat while Tyler watched in pure fascination. This was probably the most alive he has ever seen Onyx.
"Whoa! Now that was a performance! Let's give it up for Absolute Fire one more time!" Julian said into the microphone while walking back onto stage. The crowd cheered for them one more time while they walked off stage. Julian introduced one other band who performed a slow song that didn't exactly pump the crowd up, but they weren't bad. Julian got back on stage after them and Flash started to hyperventilate because he knew they were next.
"Oh God, this is it. We're going to go out there and I'm going to ruin my high school career before it even started." Flash groaned and Shawn and Shade exchanged the same confused look while Bolt rolled his eyes.
"Stop being so overdramatic, Flash." Bolt told him and Flash was literally buzzing with electricity. Bolt sighed and neutralized him before slapping him across the face. "Calm down man! You're going to be great! We're all there with you!" Bolt yelled shaking him by his shoulders.
"Okay, okay, stop shaking me!" Flash yelled pushing his cousin off of him.
"Sorry, but I had to get you to calm down somehow." Bolt shrugged while Shawn and Shade shook their heads.
"Please help me welcome our next band consisting of Junior Shawn Romaro, Sophomores Bolt Solari and Shade the Hedgehog, and Freshman Flash Storm," Julian said as the crowd got back onto their feet. "Give it up for The Dark Matrix!" Julian exclaimed while the guys took to the stage. Flash stood in front of the microphone, guitar in hand, and a panicked look on his face. Ivy noticed this and was quick to hop onto the bleacher.
"Woo! Go Flash!" She cheered loudly and Flash spotted immediately and smiled. Shawn started in on the drums while Shade and Bolt followed up with their instruments. Flash started a clap and soon the audience picked it up and he grabbed the microphone.

Flash let go of the microphone and started to play his guitar while singing the chorus. Ivy was going out of her mind while she cheered on her boyfriend and Flash used her as his anchor to not let the nerves get to him. Ruby was peeking from the side of the stands and smiled happily as she watched Shawn wail on the drums.

Bolt watched his cousin while playing his bass and was happy to see him having fun and enjoying himself. He was so nervous, but now he could see that he really was talented. Suzy watched Shade shred on the guitar and she was trying to cheer as much as she could without it being suspicious, but she was extremely proud of him. Flash held out a guitar note while Shade and Bolt dropped out. Shawn was tapping against the rims of his drum while Flash went into the bridge. Shade and Bolt slowly joined back in while Flash held his microphone out to the audience to sing certain parts.

Flash belted out a long note falling onto his knees and Ivy's mouth—along with a lot of other people's—mouth dropped. Bolt, Shade, and Shawn all cheered while giving it their all on their instruments. Flash hopped back on his feet and sang the chorus with power and excitement while the crowd cheered from him loudly.

Flash held out the note on the last word before all the guys dropped out and finished. The audience erupted into applause and cheers as the guys all bowed. Bolt shoved Flash playfully as if to prove his point and Flash just laughed and followed him off stage while Julian came back up. As soon as they were off to the side of the stands Flash passed out and Shawn caught him with a sigh.
"Well, that was some performance. The singer just passed out right now!" Julian exclaimed and the guys rolled their eyes.
"All right! Next band is made up of Juniors Hydro Storm, Andrew Mondair, Roddy the Hedgehog, and Sophomore Lauren Romaro!" Julian said as people began to cheer. "Everybody out of their seats for Bold & Pure!" He announced jogging off stage while they took the stage. Lauren took a deep breath before looking over to Hydro. He smiled at her reassuringly and she smiled softly back. She closed her eyes and held the microphone between her eyes, but they popped open when the guys started to play their instruments.

"Did you know your sister could sing like that?" Bolt asked when he looked at Shawn.
"Where did you think all those genes went? She can't play an instrument for shit, but I can't sing for shit." Shawn explained.
"So what does Ginger have then?" Bolt asked.
"She's the smart one." Shawn said and Bolt snorted. Lauren was bouncing up and down on the stage and danced all across the stage while everybody rocked out to the catchy song. She kept looking over to Hydro who just smiled at her and she couldn't help but feel like the song she was singing a little relatable to her.

Lauren wrapped her arm around Hydro's shoulders while she sang to him and he laughed while playing his guitar. She kissed him on the cheek playfully before walking over and dancing beside Roddy. Hydro could only be so glad that the audience was far away from them so they couldn't see the blush that stained his cheeks after she did that.

"Do you think they're going to make us choose between them?" Reese asked and Luna laughed.
"I think our children are smart enough to know that we won't give them a straight answer." She told him.
"Why is she kissing Hydro? That's weird." He murmured eyeing him suspiciously.
"Please just enjoy your daughter's performance." Luna told him and he grumbled. The music slowed down a bit with Hydro and Roddy dropping out and Andrew keeping a steady beat on his bass drum. Lauren walked up to the front of the stage as she sang softly, but then belted out a note that rivaled Flash's previous one. Hydro watched her totally love struck almost missing his cue to join back in.

They all finished strongly, the guys dropping out while Lauren sang the last line acapella. Similar to Absolute Fire and The Dark Matrix, the crowd cheered and screamed loudly for them. Lauren laughed feeling the adrenaline rush through her and the guys were quick to surround her to take their final bow. They walked off stage while Julian took the stage fanning his face.
"Man, what a show, am I right?" Julian asked the crowd as they cheer. "The winners will announced after the game because, you know, we have a game to finish." He shrugged as people laughed. "But first! We have to announce our Homecoming King and Queen!" He announced excitedly as the crowd clapped happily. Ruby walked out one more time because she was a part of the Homecoming Court and she needed to be there while the Queen and King were announced. She personally didn't know any of the nominees so she kind of just tuned it out while she just stood and smiled.
"Damn, dude, your girl cleans up nice." Bolt told Shawn and Shawn glared at him.
"Don't you have to get ready for the game or something?" Shawn scowled and Bolt snickered before walking to the locker room with Shade. Shawn went back to staring at her dreamingly while Flash laid next to him on the ground, still passed out. The Queen and King were announced and Ruby did her best to get off the field as fast as possible. Unfortunately for her, her change of clothes were in her parents' car and the stadium didn't allow for reentry—once you were in, you were in. No coming back if you leave. She sighed and decided to watch the second half of the game from the side of the stands where hardly anyone could see her. Let's just hope this game finishes fast.
