Chapter Two
What on earth were her parents thinking? Why were they even so persistent on her getting along with those two boys?
The only people she can fully trust in the Hamada household were the grown ups, and that's only because they were best friends with her own mom and dad. When she asked Aunt Cass this, the older woman merely gave her a smile and said it was because of their work, which is something similar to what her own parents said. Yui might have been in a bad mood after that because, just because the grown ups got along doesn't mean that she and those boys were. Their logic didn't make any sense to her.
She still gets stuck with Hiro and Tadashi either way.
She's been stuck in their home for a week now, and she's starting to get cabin fever. If she had to stay with them any longer, she might have to have an unavoidable tantrum.
It's raining heavily outside, so she, Hiro, and Tadashi were stuck indoors. The two boys were playing a video game, and she's sitting nearby, having an imaginary tea party. Yui stops playing with her dolls to glance over at the rain that's pouring all over the streets.
Truthfully, she's been uneasy ever since it began raining. She couldn't explain it ... but she knows something's wrong.
"Here you go, Yui, one hot chocolate," Aunt Cass greets her with a tired smile.
"Thank you, Aunt Cass," Yui smiles sweetly as the older woman hands her a cup.
"You're such a spoiled princess, like in those movies you make us watch," Hiro rolls his eyes. Yui glares at him.
"Play nice, Hiro, she's our guest here," Aunt Cass warns the small boy who scoffs. The phone rings in the kitchen, startling the four of them. Aunt Cass heads for the other room with a startled expression she's never seen on the older woman. "I'll be back in a minute, behave, you three. Oh, I just know I'm going to stress eat later, your parents make me worry too much."
" Yeah, Hiro, I'm also older than you," Yui sticks her tongue out at Hiro, who frowns at her. "That means I'm smarter and can boss you around."
"And I'm older than the both of you combined," Tadashi intervenes before Hiro says anything he'd regret. "Keep it down, will you? You're gonna bother Aunt Cass."
"Sorry, Tada!"
"Sorry, Tadashi."
She and Hiro realize they've spoken at the same time and give each other stern glares. Tadashi stares at the two in disbelief, muttering a soft, "unbelievable!" Under his breath.
"Wonder why the phone's been ringing so much today?" Tadashi asks the two younger children, who both shrug their shoulders.
"Who knows?" Hiro asks. He's now fully invested in the game on television, pressing buttons harshly as he struggled with the boss level, and trying to rescue the princess.
The door creaks open, and the three children turn in the direction of the noise to see Aunt Cass with tears in her eyes, and her face all scrunched up. The three kids stare at her with worry, wondering what was wrong to make her cry that much.
"Hiro ... Tadashi... " Aunt Cass says, and she hugs the two boys tightly. "I'm so sorry."
Both boys are confused and give each other looks. Yui stands in the sidelines, unsure and awkward as she watches the family hug .
"What's all this about, Aunt Cass?" Tadashi asks softly.
"It's about ... your parents," Aunt Cass mimics his tone.
It's still raining at Hiro and Tadashi's parents funeral.
She's starting to despise the rain.
She doesn't understand what's going on or why there were so many people crying, dressed in black, and offering flowers to the gravestones. She's standing in between her parents with her mother hugging her tightly from behind her, and Hiro and Tadashi are standing with Aunt Cass who's being overwhelmed by floods of strangers. They told her to go distract Hiro and Tadashi, but both Hamada brothers had scary faces she's never seen on them before, and they seemed plenty distracted enough by their relatives.
After watching them interact with strangers she's never met before for at least an hour and a half, they're back at Aunt Cass's cafe. Her parents were discussing things over with their aunt while she, Hiro, and Tadashi were sitting at one of the cafe booths, their hot chocolate and donuts are untouched in front of them. The brothers sat across from her, and their silence is making her uncomfortable(it doesn't help that Hiro is glaring at her every so often either), so she chooses to watch the people walking in the rain outside.
She doesn't know what's more stupid, seeing Hiro happy, or that scrunched up face he's making. What could she possibly do? What could she say to make them feel better? She's five, not a miracle worker.
"Why do her parents get to live and ours don't?" Hiro asks suddenly. Yui recoils as he glares daggers at her as if it were somehow her fault the accident happened.
"Hey, cool it, you knucklehead," Tadashi warns, "Yui and her family are trying to make us feel better. We should be grateful."
See, this is why she liked Tadashi better. Tadashi made an effort to be nice to her and didn't hold a grudge from when they were a bit younger.
Then again, she never really made the effort to get to know Hiro better either.
"Bribing us with food isn't going to bring them back!" Hiro argues. "Maybe they're being so nice because they're the ones that killed them!"
"Hiro!" Tadashi admonishes.
"My parents aren't bad people," Yui argues. "They want to be friends with you and your parents!"
"I never wanted to be friends in the first place!" Hiro shouts. "Our parents made us!"
"Neither did I!" Yui exclaims.
Her parents must have heard the commotion because they enter the room with Aunt Cass to break up the fight. This all felt way too familiar to her.
"Honestly, what are we going to do with you two?" Her mother scolds.
Hiro scoffs at Yui's mother before racing up the stairs towards his room, with Tadashi following closely behind, calling after Hiro.
"I'm so sorry about this, Cass," her mother apologizes, and bows.
"It's alright," Aunt Cass reassures with a weak laugh. "Those boys can be a handful. Let me try and talk to them, okay?"
"No, we should probably get going, thanks for watching over Yui while we were away," her mother says.
"It's honesty no trouble at all!"
During their whole conversation, Yui's eyes keep wandering over to the stairs leading up to the boy's room. She thought about apoapologizing for a fight that she didn't really start. But ... she knows better.
Despite their fight and everything that's happened, Yui wishes she knows how to make the two brothers feel better.
A/N: Wow, it's been so long since I've thought about this story. I've recently seen the Big Hero Six TV series on Disney XD and got inspired to check this fanfic out again. This story is mostly based on the film as I've never read the comics and only seen some of the show, so I don't know how different it will be!
Why do I have this weird headcanon image that Hiro probably does remember his parents even though he said he doesn't in the film? I think I must have upped Hiro's age for this fanfic so that he does remember what happened to his parents.
Funfact: Yui calls Tadashi "Tada" because he reminds her of a magician, and in her eyes magicians always say "Ta-da!" after finishing up a magic trick.
Thank you so much to everyone who followed and faved this story!

KoolKat189: Thanks so much for your review! Also, If you're still reading this, please feel free to call me out on my grammatical mistakes, because I do add an extra comma or two and switch tenses by accident, lol! Yes, it will be a slow burn oc shipping story, hope that doesn't scare you off too bad! Also, it's been awhile, did you get to see Big Hero Six in Kingdom Hearts 3? That world was absolutely wild!
Reader: Thank you so much! I actually haven't seen that many oc scientists or science nerds, so I will have to go search for them! I hope you're still sticking around for this one, I know it's been awhile!
