Chapter 2 - Truth is Out
"So, let me get this straight?" Stan said rubbing his temples. Trying to ease the pain of an on coming headache, "Molly's not Molly. In fact her name isn't even Molly but Eva!" He looked to Koji to confirm, when he nodded he continued on, "But no Eva isn't just Eva! No, our lives couldn't be that simple for once! Eva is the only child of the famous Maya Wei! Also known as Don Wei's wife! Making Eva his daughter!" He had enough! He had to rest his head between his knees. As he relived every dangerous stunt Eva pulled during the races! And it made him question the sanity of the Wei family! If his daughter was that wild! He was sure no one on board their shuttle ever wanted to see Don Wei cut loose. The very thought made him shiver in fear.
"Wow, you are taking this harder than I did!" Jordan commented, he had never seen the guys like this.
"You weren't in charge of her safety!" Koji shouted, feeling queasy at what the Crogs did to the ship. During one of their earlier races. He knew that the trick nearly killed both pilot and gunner when the ship was cut in two. They were lucky! But then luck seemed all they had to go on back then with Molly/Eva's pure talent. He finally swallowed his guts and asked the question that he wanted to know the most. "How long has he known?" That got everyone's attention. Even Stan managed to pull his head from his knees to stare at Jordan.
"Officially...only a few hours", they all stared at him as if he had grown a second head, "What! Would you want to ask, if the girl, you've had working for you, for months, I might add, if she is the daughter you abandoned at a boarding school nearly what twelve years ago." He asked, "Then to have the nerve to not recognize her." They still gapped at him, it wasn't his fault Don didn't recognize her. Hell, he should have known by the way they went at each other's throats. "But then again how could he not the stubborn streak; it all but matched his!" Thinking back to every argument that the two had. From how she piloted to how he coached.
"Yeah, that's right!" Koji said, "Between her temper and his it was like walking on eggshells for the longest time."
"Yeah, surprised we didn't see the similarities." Stan commented as he gently flipped a wrench in the air and caught it on the fly, "but you know what really gets me is the fact, that I never even heard of Don Wei having a daughter till now!"
"From what Molly, I mean Eva said He wanted to forget she ever existed after her mother's death." Jordan said as he hunkered down on a crate.
"I guess grief makes a person do crazy desperate things." Koji spoke aloud as he thought of his family and what kind of pain would course through him at the thought of his family dead or broken apart, "But then again, love makes fools of us all." He sighed.
"I wouldn't know about that," Jordan comment rubbing the back of his neck, "never had that kind of itch, if you know what I mean."
"RIGHT!" the two mechanics chorused, distinctly remembering the gunner having come back to base camp with some bruises after a slight altercation with the 'Prince', as Jordan constantly referred to him as.
