I spend all day at the bakery on Saturday. I bake and bake and decorate and mix and bake. I'm so concentrated; I don't even notice Leo when he comes in for his shift at 2:00. I rush around the kitchen, making sure nothings burning, and crash into him.

"Oh, sorry, didn't see you there," I mumble, slipping past him.

"Rye, I've been here for half an hour, where's your head at?" I glance at the clock and see that it is, in fact, 2:30. He crosses his arms and looks at me, a concerned look on his face. I look back at him blankly. Where is my head at?

My head is everywhere. My head is at school, thinking about how cute Mad and Jack are. My head is in the bakery with Marina. My head is in the kitchen, now, with Leo. But mostly, my head is on the porch, last night, with Finn and the almost kiss.

"Rye?" he asks. "please talk to me," Leo begs. "I'm worried about you."

"I don't know what's happening to me," I whisper. "I used to be so together and now… it's like I don't even recognise myself."

Leo wraps his arms around me, not saying anything. We stand in silence for a while. It's a beautiful kind of silence. One that has been needed after these last couple of weeks. No teasing about my crush on Finn, no listening to the cute romantic shit from Mad and Jack, no taunts from Marina. Just silence.

But soon I feel the silence has gone on for too long, so I clear my throat and speak up.

"I spoke to Bree." Leo pulls away and looks into my eyes, curiously. "She likes you, Leo."

He's still for a moment, taking in what I said, before his whole face breaks into a smile. Then he gets down on one knee, takes my hand in his and says, "Orion Mellark, will you do me the honour of breaking up with me?"

I start to laugh. "Well that's definitely more romantic than how you first asked me out but," I pause for effect. "Yes, I will!" Leo jumps up and picks me up, spinning me around, before dropping me back on my feet. "How are we going to do it?" I ask.

"Well, we have to do it somewhere public, but not too public that you'll get embarrassed when I dump you."

"When you dump me? No way, jockstrap, I'm dumping you," I argue stubbornly.

"Why?" he whines.

"Well, firstly, because I'm your bosses daughter so you have to do as I say." He rolls his eyes, but I can see his smile. "And secondly, because if you dump me, you'll look like the bad guy. So, if I dump you, point one to me for dumping the quarterback, and you can play the 'I'm upset, comfort me' card. Everybody wins."

He laughs, "See, this is why you're the smart one in the relationship."

"Where should it happen, then? Somewhere where Bree is close by probably."

"Like a party?" Leo asks. I shake my head.

"No, too public."

"What about after the first game?" he asks. I smile at him.

"Perfect. See, you can be smart when you try." He throws a cheesebun at me.

The first game of the season had been postponed due to the other school's football team all coming down with food poisoning after eating some funky Taco Bell the previous night. Though a lot of the school where disappointed, we were relieved as it gave us more time to plan the break up.

We had decided that it would happen after the game, where people could see us talking and then, when I walked away, he would go back to everyone else to announce we had split up. What we hadn't planned on was Marina walking up to us on Monday morning.

"Hey, Leo! How are you, Rye?" I stare at her in horror and confusion, not responding. But she doesn't wait for an answer anyway. "Excellent. Anyway, I'm having a little campfire after the game next week to celebrate Finn's first game and I was wondering if the school's cutest couple would like to come."

I don't say anything, with so many questions running through my head, it's impossible for me to. Why is Marina acting so lovely? Since when have Leo and I been the cutest couple in school? Is this going to affect Bree's opinion of Leo? And since when was Finn on the football team?

Leo grabs my hand and squeezes it, trying to calm me and replies, "We'd love to, but-"

Again, Marina doesn't wait for a full answer. "Great!" she squeals. "I'll see you there then." Then she spins on her heels, and is gone.

I wait a beat before asking, "Finn joined the football team?"

"He didn't tell you?" I give Leo an 'are you actually kidding me' look and he sighs. "Tommy broke his leg and Finn volunteered as replacement seeing as we seem to have no subs. He's actually a pretty decent player."

I know he is. We used to play in the garden with our dads. He probably played with Finnick in District 4 all the time. I tell Leo this and he nods. "How much do you want to bet Marina had some influence too? Wanting her new boyfriend to be a football player." Leo snorts, pulling me down the hall as the bell rings.

I walk into Chemistry but stop at the door. Finn is sitting back beside my seat, looking nervous. I slowly make my way to him and sit down.

He opens his mouth at me as if he's going to say something, but shits it again and turns away. He does this three times before I start to laugh at him.

"You know," I say. "Most people start a conversation with 'hi'." He lets out a breathy laugh.

"Hi, Riley."

"Hi, Finn."

We just look at each other for a while, oblivious to the class around us.

"Riley, are we ok?" Finn asks quietly.

I ponder it for a moment, give him a half smile and nod.

"Yeah," I tell him. "We're ok, Finn."

Hey... so it's been a while...

I'M SO SORRY!

I've had no time to write and alongside that I've had no inspiration to either. I love this story but I just had no idea where I was going with it. I understand this is slightly a filler chapter, but I felt like it is long overdue. I will try and update more often and I'm sorry for my absence. Also apologies for any typos, it's twenty to two in the morning and I'm very tired after being at work from half six until half ten.

Happy 1st of December everyone!
