Ron's POV
They're watching me.
A group of men dressed in dirty, ratty and baggy clothes were stood at the entrance to an old tavern and every few seconds they glanced my way. I knew I should have used Polyjuice potion when out in public, especially in the day. Not that day or night mattered, Britain was constantly under attack from thunder clouds and rain lately. Every time I looked to the sky I wondered if I'd see the sun soon.
The fact it was so dark made me cautious, especially once I realized I was being followed. I turned and made my way down the road, putting as much distance between me and the men. I continued down the road, moving swiftly with my bag strapped to my back and my hood up, Even my ginger hair could get me into trouble now. The men continued to follow me; their hushed whispers making me glance over my shoulder every few seconds. Luckily, the next time I did I noticed a wand being raised.
"Bombarda!" I roared as I spun, raising a wand of my own. The ground beneath their feet exploded, sending dirt and rock and the Snatchers everywhere. While the dirt in the air blocked their view, I spun and started sprinting across the park I had just entered, heading for the forest. I could hear their yelling behind me, getting closer, and the sounds of their spells hitting trees not far from my head!
I made my way into the tree-line and despite of the darkness, I kept sprinting. I knew I could trip and fall and hurt myself but I couldn't risk summoning a light, not when I had a group of Snatchers on my tail. We ran for five minutes straight, my lungs burnt and my legs ached, screamed at me to stop but I couldn't. Once I was sure I had lost them, I came to a slow jog. I had no idea where I was or how close I was to another town, but that didn't matter. What mattered was I was safe.
I heard his war cry before I saw him yet I still had no chance to defend myself. The Snatcher appeared out of nowhere and rugby tackled me to the ground. I roared with pain as my shoulder burnt but I bit my lip and did my best to ignore the pain. I had to get away. Without thinking I slammed my elbow straight into his nose, causing him to curse violently and stumble back to the ground. I scrambled to my feet, turned and came down hard with the bottom off my foot. He grunted and rolled over again but I realized he was reaching for his wand. I went to step on his hand but I was too late.
"Stupefy!" he went to yell but at the same time I raised my own wand.
"Protego!" The air between us was filled with a magical, pulsing energy, the majority of it bright blue, illuminating the darkness of the forest until the ret jet of light that shot towards me from his wand hit the centre of the shield and rebounded. On us both. One minute I was kneeling there and the next my body was flipping through the air and I couldn't hold back my panicked scream.
I clenched my teeth and braced for impact. Thankfully when I hit the ground, I didn't break anything but my eyes were filled with tears and everything was a little blurry. Soon enough I found my wand and lifted it,
"Lumos," The tip sparked with white light and I used it as a torch. I found the Snatcher, unconscious by his own spell, in a ditch by the side of a giant oak tree. I shuffled down the ditch, careful not to slip and I snatched his wand from him and shoved it in my bag. I spat at his feet, turned and continued into the night as I heard the other Snatchers on their way. I wiped away an escaping tear, thinking that if I had stayed with them. She'd be in my arms now.
