Hermione's POV
Whoosh!
The large, oak doors of the Room of Requirement opened, releasing dust into the air. Out of the shadows, Ginny Weasley ran towards us. My heart leapt when she came into view, a smile forced its way onto my features. It had been months since I had even spoken to Ginny - my friend and Ron's younger sister - and there she was, standing just across the room. She looked tired and worn. Her jeans and purple cardigan were torn and covered in dust. Dirt smudged on her cheek, along with a bruise or two.
Ginny glanced at us all, her eyes wide when she saw us but they stopped, lingering on Harry's. The chemistry between the two was more obvious than the chemistry between Ronald and I.
"Harry?" She asked, as if she couldn't quite believe he was really standing in front of her.
"Hi there..." Harry responded, sounding a little out of breath. His emerald eyes were latched onto the girl with red hair.
"Uh- Hey?" Ron breathed but his vanish smiled as quickly as it had appeared. He dropped his wave and tapped my arm gently, I glanced at him. "Six months she hasn't seen me and it's like I'm Frankie First Year? I'm only her brother." I couldn't help but grin at his reaction.
"She's got lots of those though, only one Harry." Seamus murmured with his same old smirk, which, honestly, I kind of missed seeing. I missed everyone. Ron's brows furrowed when he turned to Seamus.
"Shut up, Seamus." He snapped. Ron knew, just like everyone, that Harry and his sister had feelings for one another. I think he even accepted it.
Neville, beautiful beaten Neville, took a step. "What is it Ginny?" He asked, his voice hoarse.
Ginny let out a heavy sigh she had been holding. "Snape knows." My stomach dropped. "He knows Harry was spotted in Hogsmeede."
The crowd erupted into mutters and murmurs of fear and concern. Harry was snatched away from them by Neville so they could speak privately. Ron vanished from my side when the crowd burst into chaos, people calling out to one another, everyone reaching for and pulling on their school robes? Robes belonging to their houses.
There were no Slytherin Robes.
Ron's hand grasped mine, his eyes were inches from mine. I had to resist the urge to kiss him right then and there. "This way." He pulled me through the crowd to where Neville had taken Harry. I overheard their conversation, something about getting Harry a robe to sneak into the assembly hall, to listen to Snape's speech and then confront him. In front of everyone.
I realized now was the only chance I'd get to freshen up and prepare myself so I hurried out of the way into the corner of the room and pulled off my jacket, grabbed some water out of my bag and untied my hair. I cleaned up the best I could, wiping away the dirt and the dried blood from a few scrapes I'd suffered getting in and then ran a brush through my hair before tying it back. Ron appeared by my side. He glanced over his shoulder one to make sure no one was looking before he forced be back against the wall and kissed me.
I dropped my bag and clung to his jacket, holding him to me. I didn't know why he had decided that was the best moment to kiss me before we headed off into battle, but it felt right. It felt so right to just stand there, in the middle of the war, and kiss the man I loved. "I'm going to go talk to Ginny," He breathed, his thumb caressing my lip.
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak without my voice breaking and he kissed me quickly again before hurrying off into the surging crowd of robes. I smiled and then turned, looking for Harry but instead walked straight into someone else.
"Oh, sorry," I said, but I realized it was Lavender Brown standing before me. She did not look happy.
"Lavender?" I gasped. Her eyes narrowed, her lips pulled into a fine line and she stood with hands on her hips. Out of everyone, I found I wasn't as thrilled to be reunited with her. She took a step towards me but I refused to take a step back.
"Why?" she asked, "Did he do that?"
"Do what?" I asked, barging past her and across the room. I knew she was referring to the kiss she had just been spying on. She followed on my tail, her blonde ringlets bouncing with each exaggerated stride. I came to a stop by a table, on which uneven mountains of books shook under the movement of the surging crowd. I set my bag down on the table and begin to empty it; last minutes check of all our essentials - just in case something went wrong and we needed to disappear. Again.
"You know damn well what I mean, Hermione Granger," She snapped, "Ron just...kissed you!" the sheer disgust in her voice brought a smile to my lips. Now, I'm not one to take pleasure in others discomfort but I have to admit, I was glad Lavender could now see that Ron and I were together, and happier now, during a time of death and war, than she and he were when all they had to worry about was passing their examinations.
"Did he really? Thank you, Lavender, I had been wondering what that was?" The sarcasm in my voice brought another smile to my lips, while she frowned.
"Do not mock me, Granger!"
"I'll do as I please." I snapped, I retorted, turning and barging by once more, almost taking her off her feet, while searching for Harry and the others. Suddenly her hand found my shoulder and surprisingly she spun me and lead me, before I could stop her, behind a pile of old broken pieces of wood, furniture and stacked boxes. Out of view.
"Break up with him. Now."
It wasn't a question.
"What?" I demanded.
She paused, her words slurring. "Y-You heard me, end it with Ron. It won't last and you know it. It's obvious to anyone that he's only with you because he's lonely and upset. When he was with me, he was truly happy."
I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my smirk. I went to walk by but she stood in my way. Okay, now she was beginning to get on my nerves. "Well?" She demanded.
"Not going to happen."
I took a step when over my shoulder I heard, "I'm warning you..."
"Warning me?" I laughed loudly, spinning on the spot. My voice was rising now, catching the attention of passing members of the DA.
She didn't have time to reply before I took a step before her, staring into her eyes. Anger smeared across my features. She took a step back but only found the wall of rubble. "You are warning me? What will you do? Hmm? You'll call me names? Spread rumours through the common rooms? You'll slap me? Do what you wish, Lavender. For no one will pay you any attention. Lavender, if you have not realized we are In the middle of a war! I do not have time to waste by squabbling over who kissed who! I am not breaking up with Ron, nor is he breaking up with me!" I lowered my voice to a near eerie whisper, "Especially...not for you."
I shoved her to the side, out of my way but her hands snapped forward, tightening on my wrists. "How dare you!"
"You have until the count of three..." My voice was low, angry.
"Ron-"
One.
"-Is-"
Two.
"-Mine!"
Three.
I struck. My knuckles collided with her front row of gleaming white teeth, her head snapped back and she lost her balance. Before she realized it, she hit the wall and fell to the ground. Tears poured from her eyes, her nose spilled blood down her chin, past her bust lip. Her trembling hands came up to her mouth, to stop the blood or hide her shocked expression, I didn't know nor entire care.
I tried to hide my aching hand; to now show that punch had not only shocked me but had also sprained my wrist. I did warn her.
Now? Where is my 'Won Won?'
