Ron's POV:

Hermione's fingers interlocked with my own. She, Harry and I stood on the bridge leading away from the castle, walking mindlessly across it and away from the aftermath of the battle. We didn't know why, or understand it. But it just felt kind of right for us to have a minute alone together, just the three of us, now it was all over.

I was in two minds about the bridge, it looked as if it were going to collapse and crumble beneath us. The stone railing had been blown to pieces in some parts, cracked statues were laid out before us, they'd lost their already limited lives keeping us real people alive. It hadn't saved my brother though, had it? Nothing had.

- I tried to ignore the bodies that were human. Iron knights were charred and burned, their armour flaking in the slight breeze, the smell of smoke and magic in the air; with a layer of dust and ash to coat it all.

Harry stood on a piece of debris, watching the horizon carefully, the elder wand hung between his fingers.

He looked destroyed. His already pasty white skin was scathed in purplish bruises, dirt and his dried blood. His jacket was torn and scorched by curses that narrowly missed taking his life. His hair looked even more ruffled then than it had in the almost eight years, I had known him.

"Why didn't it work for him, the Elder wand?" Hermione questioned. I glanced her way but it was hard to see her through the flare of the bright sun. She was a sight too. Like Harry and me, her clothes torn, her hair a tangled mess, her jaw bruised. She still looked beautiful to me.

"It answered to somebody else. When he killed Snape, he thought the wand would become his. Thing is - the wand never belonged to Snape; it was Draco who disarmed Dumbledore that night on the Astronomy tower, from that moment on the wand answered him." He glanced down at it, turning it over in his hand. "-until...the other night when I disarmed Draco, at Malfoy Manner."

It took me a minute, "So that means?"

"It's mine." Harry echoed my thought. The most powerful wand in possession was now Harry's. It seemed almost fitting, that in the end the wand just happened to belong to him, he was the chosen one, after all.

"What should we do with it?" I asked.

"We?" Hermione shrilled.

With a shrug, I turned to her, "I'm just saying, that's the Elder wand. Most powerful wand in the world. With that, you'd be invincible." Harry twirled the wand between his fingers, his eyes lingered on the finely made wood for a longer moment, a million possibilities.

Then he snapped it.

I gasped at the same time Hermione did, the two of us stepping forward in shock as Harry launched the pieces into the great void of the chasm below. I wanted to argue, to ask Harry what he was playing at but from the look on his face, he was in no mood to argue. Honestly, now I think about it, I wasn't either. I realized what Harry was thinking, that there would always be witches and wizards who go dark, who'd try to conquer the wizarding world as well as the muggle one. There would be a constant, never ending battle for the Elder Wand - for the title of Master of Death.

Harry had done the right thing. Hermione glanced my way, smiled and held out her hand. With a sigh, I took it, finding warmth and comfort in her roughness of her dirty palm. I gave it a squeeze and the two of us stepped forward as Harry stepped down. He spun and his eyes lingered on Ron and me for a second.

So this was it. It was over. Felt too surreal to be true. Voldemort was dead. Really dead. No more horcruxes, no more death eaters, no more snatches. No more death.

For the first time in a long time, I smiled an honest smile.

FanWriter's Note:

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the long wait, I just kind of lost my inspiration for this story! I feel really bad but recently re-watched HP and decided to continue! So this is why I am posting two chapters tonight instead of just one. This one is pretty short the but the next is longer! Hope you enjoy!

Responding to your reviews:

Heronlove: Thank you. It was quite a sad scene and I cried in the theatre when they left Harry to walk to his death. As for explaining things to Ron, I'm sure Hermione would do at some point.

BeckNiece: Thank you :} Hope to hear what you think.
