My parents were in shock. They couldn't cry because they couldn't believe it.

"Tai, there has to be some way to get her back.." My mom said weakly.

I looked away, clenching my fist. "If there was, I don't know it."

"Torture them Angemon...find out whose been attacking us..."

I gave a small smile. It may have been the wrong way to go about getting stronger, but we have to do this. Instead of this X Veemon being blue and white, he was red and white.

"I can feel the power Davis, I feel as strong as an ultimate."

"Good, our training isn't over yet, we need to find a way to get to the next level."

"Digivolve to..."

"Exactly. It's the only way we can win for sure. Maybe the only way to save Kari..."

"We'll find a way Davis, and when we do, we'll protect her better than T.K and Patamon ever could."

"We'll do more than that, we'll make sure they never challenge us again."

I walked quietly through the forest. There was nothing left for me. I couldn't protect Kari and now I was alone in the world. I was a digimon without any friends. I had no one to go to.

"Gatomon."

I turned around and saw Gennai.

"What do you want Gennai?"

"I need to show you something, come with me."

"Its getting worse Gatomon."

"What is?"

"The gas's effect, i took a sample from both T.K and Davis and their respective Digimon. The gas's effect does not stay stagnant, it grows. Kari's passing has become a sort of catalyst and now it's going out of control. At this rate, those 4 will end up killing each other."

I thought for a moment on what he said.

"Why are you telling me? I can't do anything about it...I couldn't even save Kari."

"Because Gatomon, you're the only one who was connected to the power of light. You must use the light you have and save the digidestined."

"I can't be of any help to anyone right now, not without Kari. How can I even digivolve without her?"

"A digimon's place is more than just fighting Gatomon. It's supporting the digidestined emotionally as well. You're able to have a connection with your chosen that no one in the world can have."

"What does that matter is she's gone?!" I cried. "You're saying all these things, but don't realize that she needs to be alive for me to matter!"

"Of course you matter Gatomon."

I looked down. It didn't matter at this point whether I matter or not. The group is in trouble. I'm not going to waste time being down in the dumps.

Angemon stopped his staff an inch away from an Ogremon's face.

"Tell us." I said.

"All I've heard is that there's a digimon out there with a grudge. He's not that powerful apparently, so he sticks to the shadows. He's shrewd, and likes to think before he can attack. Or that's what they say."

"Where is he?"

"That, I don't know.." Angemon brought his staff down touching Ogremon's nose.

"But that doesn't mean I don't know who can help you!" Ogremon said in a panic.

"Take us."

"There's a digimon…"

"I said take us, not tell us."

"It'll take a while to get there…"

I heard a knock on the door and went to go see who it was.

"Who would come at this time?"

I opened it and saw a dirty and tired looking Davis and Demiveemon at the door.

"Guys where have you been?"

"Where does it look like Ken?"

"Whatever the matter is Davis, you shouldn't have left. It's been real hard, for everyone…"

"I know…"

"Come in, my parents aren't home.

Davis walked in carrying demiveemon. "Are either one of you hungry?"

"Not really." Both said solemnly. "Where's Stingmon?"

"He's asleep right now."

"Listen Ken, I'll get straight to the point. I need the crest of Kindness."

"What for?"

"I have a theory with the crest of Kindness, the digieggs, and the new digivolving power, I can make Veemon digivolve into the next level…"

"Wait, new Digivolve power? Davis, have you been using that rage form?!"

"Yea, and it's amazing, it gives XVeemon the power of an ultimate."

"That doesn't matter Davis, that can seriously harm the both of you, especially Veemon!"

"No it doesn't Ken, I'm a 100%!"

"You may think that now, but later is can seriously do some harm. You should stop, and if you're going to use my crest with that power then you can forget about me helping you. And on top of that, why do you want to digivolve anyway?"

"To stop whoever hurt Kari. And to find a way to save her."

"Davis, I know it's hard for you to accept that she's gone, but she's gone. We will find the ones who did this and make them pay, and we will do it together. You don't need to use this digivolving power. And I know why you're really going to use that power for."

"And what's that."

"To fight T.K."

Davis stared at me hard.

"He has to be stopped."

"From what?"

"From destroying us!"

"Are you kidding me Davis?"

"He will! Look at what he's done. First he couldn't protect Kari, now he left on his own doing who knows what."

"Davis it wasn't his fault, and you know that. Also even if it was true, which it's not, that doesn't mean he's going to destroy us. You're being insane, that gas has you affected deeper than I thought. Gennai let us know that. Gatomon is on her way to find a cure for the gas. I think we should cure you first Davis."

"And risk losing that power? No way. Just give me what I came for Ken."

"No Davis."

"Ken if you don't.."

"What Davis? You're gonna fight me too?"

"Just give it to me…"

I looked at him in disbelief. "You want it Davis?"

I quickly ran back into my room and fished the crest out of a safe box. I went back to him and threw it on his face. "You want to fight T.K? Go ahead, I won't fightt you to keep the crest, it's not worth it. You fight me, and it will give everyone a reason to hate you. And I can't do that to you. But if you do choose to fight T.K Davis, then our friendship is over."

Davis picked the crest off the floor. He looked back at me. "You'll see I'm right." He walked out the door.

I punched the wall. "Damn it...Kari I wish you were still here…"

"Here we are, Desert Moon Inn. The guy likes the drinks here."

We stood behind some trees taking cover.

"And who is this guy?"

"Well, he's flying in right now."

I saw a small Digimon, that looked like a bowling ball with wings.

"No it can't be…"

"Demidevimon…" Growled Patamon.

We both rushed over to him, Patamon quickly Digivolving to his rage form.

"Demidevimon…"
