"I got it. Your first name is Calliope. What I wanna know is what is the 'I' stands for?" Arizona asked when she got out of the taxi. Callie already ran to the back to grab their bags.
"I am not going to tell you that." The brunette handed a bag to Arizona before closed the truck.
They just came back from the airport. Even though the two of them spent days together, Callie was not ready to let go of the blonde yet. She lured her girlfriend to come home with her by a home cook meal. Arizona was happily followed, of course.
"So, in your whole family, only your dad calls you Calliope?" The two of them walked hand in hand up to the stairs.
"Not at first. My cousins prefer to call me Callie. Little by little, even my aunts and uncles call me by the short form. Except my dad. He said he gave me a beautiful name, it's a shame not to call me by that."
"It really is a beautiful name."
"Yea, tell that to a bunch for 2nd graders." Callie sneered to her girlfriend over the shoulder, who raised her eyebrows back at her.
"Come on, Calliope is not as terrible as Arizona. I took a lot of school yard craps as well."
"Whatever. My dad is the only person alive who's calling me by that name." Callie said casually, fishing the keys out from her bags to unlock the door.
Arizona stepped closer, wrapped her arms around Callie from behind. The brunette smiled when she felt the hot breath against her ear.
"Seriously, Calliope," the blonde breathed out her most seductive voice. "Your father yelled your middle name yesterday. Tell me, what was that?"
Callie couldn't help to burst into laughter. She whirled within the embrace of the fair arms, leaned back against her front door.
"Iphegenia." She said to the smiling woman.
"Come again?"
"Iphegenia. Same as Calliope, both were coming from Greek mythology." She smirked at Arizona's perplexing face, turned around to open the door. "My father was obsessed with Greek mythology, you should google…"
Callie was frozen in the scene unfolded in front of her after she got the door opened. The living room was like a war zone, a complete mess. Couch cushions everywhere. Take out containers piled up on the kitchen counter. Clothes tossed in every corner. A vase was broken on the ground. Coffee table moved to another side of the living room… The worst of it, there was a man walking away from the kitchen toward the hallway, wearing nothing but… nothing.
The man heard the sound from the front door, stopped midway and turned around with wide eyes. His face changed to pale and then to deep red in a second. Hands flew to cover his groin in an instant.
"What the hell?" Callie exclaimed. Arizona bumped to her back that made her tumbled a step forward. But she managed to keep her balance and turned around to cover her girlfriend's eyes by a hand while the other pulled the blonde head to her shoulder.
"What?" Arizona asked and struggled with the hands holding her down, but the brunette was strong.
"Don't look!" She yelled to the blonde, then turned to the man. "Hunt! Why are you… What are you… Where's Cristina?"
"I'm so sorry, so sorry, Torres. I… I… didn't know you're coming home today. Cristina didn't say anything about that." Owen had never been more embarrassing than this moment in his entitle life, that's for sure. He kept looking back to Cristina's bedroom hoping the woman would come out to save him. His face fell when a loud bang came from that direction, indicated that his wife had shut the door.
"What is happening? Let go of me Callie." Arizona was still trying to wrench herself free, but Callie just tightened the grasp.
"Stop it! I'm saving you from a haunted image. Owen Hunt is naked in my living room." Callie said between her clenched jaws. "Cover yourself, Owen! Not my cushion! Cristina!"
"I'm so so so sorry Callie. I'll dry clean your cushion, promise." Holding a cushion to cover his manhood, Owen was backing to the bedroom slowly. He just wanna run into the room to curse his wife who left him hanging out there.
But Callie wasn't finished yet. Finally let go of the blonde, she dropped her bag by the door and walked deeper into the living room. Hands on her hips with fire in eyes, she looked around the apartment in distaste.
"Not just the cushion! The couch! The kitchen! The whole place! Damn it!" She growled lividly.
"Sure sure." Owen leaned against Cristina's bedroom door, answering Callie's scold, a hand on the knob trying to open it subtly. But it was locked. "Cristina!"
"I just went away for a couple days, what did you do to my home?" If looks could kill, Owen believed he was dead from the daggers shooting out from the brown eyes. He chanced a gaze to his fellow surgeon by the front door, silently pled for help.
Arizona quickly strode to the furious Latina, a hand on her back rubbing up and down to smooth the anger. "Come on, you stay in my place tonight, ok? Give him time to tidy up the place. He'll clean it up." She shot a shape stare to the poor man, who nodded eagerly.
"Yes yes yes, I'll clean up everything." Bowed slightly to try to hide more of his body in front of the 2 women, Owen kept twisting the door knob, but there had no sign of opening in any time soon.
"You better disinfect my place or I'll… I'll cut you! I'm not joking!" Callie pointed a finger to the poor man's cushion covered area. His swallowed hard, forehead was beaded with sweat.
Having pity of her colleague, Arizona promptly grabbed the shaking hand to pull her girlfriend away. On the way out, Callie cast a glance to the kitchen one last time and saw a black briefs lying on the floor. She roared over her shoulder again, "Not in my kitchen! You…"
Owen jumped in the snarl. Luckily Arizona's hand clasped with Callie's tightly, she pulled the angry woman to stop her from going to punch the pale man. "He'll disinfect the place! He'll disinfect the place!"
"You better! And tell that woman in the room, she can't hide from me forever!" Callie yelled to Owen, and Cristina, who obviously hiding in the room, before picked up her bag to leave. And she purposely left the door open.
On the way went downstairs, both women could hear Owen banging and shouting to try to get Cristina opened the bedroom door for him. Despite the fact that her girlfriend was in an infuriated mood, Arizona couldn't help to burst into a convulsive laugh.
"This is not funny! Didn't you look at the living room? And the kitchen? They knocked down the spice rack!" Callie rolled her eyes to the blonde, stood face to face to the woman who bowed down laughing after they arrived on the ground floor.
"Yes I saw that." Arizona wiped the tear off the corner of her eyes. "But you have to admit Owen's face was priceless. Really, can you imagine how embarrassing he would be to see me at work tomorrow?"
A smile slowly pulled to her face, Callie shook her head more to the childish antic in front of her. "Come on, I need a drink before we go to your place." Without waiting for an answer, Callie grasped her girlfriend's hand and headed to Horizon.
As soon as they stepped in the pub, the two of them were greeted by the staffs and a couple of early customers. Arizona settled on one of the bar stool, while Callie took their bags to place under the bar, and gave Joe a kiss on the cheek.
"Callie, you look great. You too, Arizona. How was LA?" Joe asked.
"Great! We spent some times with Addison and Henry. You have no idea how cute is that boy. Just hope Addison is not going to ruin him. You know, she's terrible with men." Callie joked, picked up a shot glass to pour herself a stiff drink.
"You are terrible. Addison is a good mother. And we met Callie's fa…" Arizona was about to tell Joe about meeting papa Torres, but she met the frown from Callie, signaled that she didn't want to talk about it... "F… Friends when she stayed in there. Turned out one of them was my old colleague."
"Small world." Seeing Callie downed the shot in one gulp, Joe frowned. "Hey, easy, tiger. You just came back from a holiday, why are you drinking like this?"
"She saw a naked Owen Hunt upstairs." Arizona finished with a smirk on her face. She really found the whole situation very funny.
"Huh?"
"Owen Hunt. He was standing in my living room, butt naked when I opened the door. His… thing was there in front of me." Callie waved her hand in a gesture which indicated what she saw.
"Why? I mean… why?" A furrow formed in the big man's face, but the ghost of smile in the corner of his mouth showed that he was intrigued.
"Well, according to the situation we saw, he and Cristina probably were banging each other, in the living room, in the kitchen… Ugh! My kitchen!" Callie groaned, and poured herself another shot of tequila.
"Come on, it's a good thing." Arizona propped her head up on the elbow, smiling to Callie and Joe.
"A good thing? That they banged on my couch?" The bar owner scrunched her face after downed another shot of drink, looking at her girlfriend liked she was nuts.
"They have sex with each other. That means they are getting back together. We should be happy for them." Arizona said matter-of-factly, but Callie exclaimed.
"But not on my couch!"
"Owen promised to disinfect it. Just, be happy for them." The blonde shrugged a shoulder casually, placed her hand over Callie's on the bar. "Stop whining, it's not sexy, you know."
Callie stuck out her tongue at the woman, but couldn't help to smile to her as well. Finally, she turned around to Joe to ask about the business while she was gone. In the meantime, her hands were busy.
"Oh right, our new bartender Lucy. She is doing fine. She is not really good in mixing cocktails, but she's eager to learn. And the customers like her." Joe answered while pouring beer for customers.
"Is she coming in tonight?" Callie placed a Manhattan with few extra cherries in front of the blonde. "I may stay to work if necessary."
Joe was about to answer, but Arizona interrupted them.
"Hey, you still remember my choice of drink?"
"I thought I made it clear that, I remember everything you like." Callie grinned to the woman, who returned a dimpled smile and leaned forward. They met between the bar top to share a chaste kiss. Earned a couple of whistles from the customers around the bar.
"What? Jealous much?" Callie smiled cockily toward her customers, she didn't have a problem to show the people that she was in love with this wonderful woman. So did Arizona.
Joe looked at them with a smile on his face. He loved Callie, very much. It pained him a lot to see the woman was so miserable in the past years. Seeing the smile found the way but on the brunette beauty's face made him felt extremely happy. So, he decided not to tell her someone came by, just… not now.
"You take this night off, it's still your holiday. Lucy will be here later tonight."
"OK, this is all for the meeting, thank you everyone, have a good day, try not to kill anyone." Chief Webber wrapped up the morning meeting. Every attending was about to leave the room for the day, he spoke up again. "Another thing. The clinic will be opened tomorrow afternoon. There will be a simple opening ceremony. It's not mandatory but it would be really nice of you all to be present, showing the support to your colleagues Dr. Robbins and Dr. Bailey, and the hospital."
All eyes were on both doctors, they were beaming with joy while the fellow doctors congratulated them with words and applause.
"Just a small ceremony, but there will be photographers taking pictures. So make sure you wear your nicest scrubs, and shave." Bailey said with a small smile, but the serious tone in her voice told everyone she wasn't joking.
After another round of chitchat about the clinic, the doctors started to depart the conference room. Arizona walked with Bailey as they were heading to have another meeting about the clinic, but she was stopped by someone calling her from behind.
"Dr. Robbins."
Arizona turned around and found the very embarrassing Owen standing there, hand behind his neck.
"Hi Dr. Hunt, good morning." Seeing the uneasiness in the usual tough trauma surgeon, Arizona gave him a toothy smile. "How are you today?"
"I… I'm fine. Dr. Robbins." A slight flush on Owen's cheeks, he continued. "I am so sorry about yesterday. I didn't know you and Torres were coming back, and I was going to clean up the place after the first night but Cristina distracted me…"
"Hey hey hey…" The blonde put a hand on Owen's shoulder to stop him from talking too much. "I don't need to know the thing happened between you and Yang, ok? Just… the place was like a mess, what had happened? And… after the first night? You mean you were there more than a night?"
"We… uhh… ya… well… I brought over some of her stuffs. One thing led to the other, we… uhh… got carry away." Owen grinned sheepishly, hand still scratching the back of his neck. "I am so sorry about the mess."
"Don't worry about that. So, you and Yang, getting back together? That's very good."
"I don't know. We haven't talk about it. I mean, we talked, but didn't really get to…" Owen was happy to have someone to talk to about the situation with Cristina, but he was interrupted by an unimpressed Bailey, who stood not far away from them.
"Someone has to work, you know." Bailey said coldly. "If I have to stand here waiting for you to finish your gossip, I rather go to do my charts."
"Of course, of course. I'm sorry Bailey." The trauma surgeon apologized. "Sorry again Dr. Robbins. I'll leave you to work. And, can you tell Torres for me, I had sent someone to clean up the place this morning. I made sure they'll disinfect the couch and the cushions, and the carpet."
After they shared one last smile, Arizona followed Bailey walking to her office for the meeting.
"What was that about?" Bailey asked nonchalantly..
"Oh you won't believe it." Thought back about it, the blonde started to giggle. She met the grimace from Bailey. "Callie and I returned home yesterday, walked in on a naked Owen in the living room. It seems like he and Yang are getting back together."
"Good for them." The shorter woman nodded as she took in the information.
"That's what I said. Owen was miserable without Yang, it was awkward when the two of them stayed in the same OR, glad that it's over now." The Peds surgeon continued to talk with an animated expression. "So happy for them."
"Do I look like I care about their personal lives?" Bailey turned to look at her colleague when they stopped outside the office of the head of Peds, waiting for Arizona to open it.
"You asked." Arizona shrugged and unlocked the door to let Bailey in.
"I don't need the details. And we have more important thing to deal with." The general surgeon gave a deadpan as she sat on the chair, dropping the files on the desk. Arizona rounded the desk leisurely to sit down on her own chair.
"Hey, you suggested me to take the holiday. You can't blame me for not being here to deal with the works."
"I am not. Just saying the holiday is over, you have to work now." Bailey said as she passed some information to her co-administer. "Don't worry, things are going smoothly. The construction had finished. Most of the supplies had arrived. Carol already hired the 2 nurses. Before we got the in-house physician, we may use a resident and the interns to run it. What you and I have to do now, is to pick a doctor to run this baby."
"Carol already hired the nurses? Wow she really is efficient, no wonder you like her so much. Have you met the hires?" Flipping through the files, Arizona was impressed that almost everything's in place and really ready to open.
"Yes, I was in the interviews with Carol. We hired Ann Henderson. Remember? The scrub nurse quitted two years ago, because she wanted to have more time with her daughters?"
"Really? She was my favorite. I am glad she's coming back to work." Arizona looked up from the file, with a big smile on her face.
"I know you would. And we hired a male nurse. It wasn't in my mind before, you know. Male nurses are sloppy and cocky. But this guy, O'Malley, is actually pretty good. He was working in St. Francis Hospital in New York. He has 7 reference letters from the doctors in there included the head of Cardio. He said he has to move to here because his wife relocated in Seattle recently. So, St. Francis's lost is our gain." Bailey started to fumble with the folders in front of her, looking for something to show to her colleague.
"Sounds good. So he's in Seattle already?" A small furrow formed on her forehead as she was taken in the information about this nurse.
"Not yet. He flew in from New York 2 days ago for the interview. We made the decision right away. So, he went back to pack up, should be back in here tomorrow morning for the opening." Bailey said with thrill in her voice, obviously happy with this new staff. "I couldn't find his resume in here, must have left it on my desk. I will show it to you later."
"I don't mean to dampen the enthusiasm. But he moves all the way from New York to Seattle, with such a high profile, will he settle for a job in a clinic? Don't you think he's just... marking time?" Arizona leaned back on her chair after finished the file. Looked at Bailey with a raised eyebrow.
"We talked about this. Actually Carol wants to put him in the hospital instead but there has no opening for the moment. And O'Malley wants to spend some time with his wife since they just moved in here. He has no problem to work in the clinic," Bailey handed another stack of folders to Arizona, the folders that contained the resumes of the applicants of the physician position. "He said fixed hours and the location were his concern."
"OK then." Arizona looked at the folders she just put in front of her, took a deep breath, and smiled to the woman in front of her.
"I still can't believe this is happening."
"This is happening." Bailey smiled back. "This is going to be great."
