Chapter 22
"Honey, can you stop with the tossing and turning? I'm trying to sleep." Callie whirled, blindly wrapped her arms around the woman laying next to her, trying to hold her down.
"I'm sorry. I just can't sleep." Arizona tilted her head to place a soft kiss on Callie's jaw, and then pulled herself away from the embrace. But the Latina tightened the hold.
"Where are you going?" She murmured in her sleeping voice.
"I'm just going in the living room, you go ahead back to sleep." Arizona said softly, before kissing the sleepy woman one more time.
"Stay." Callie sighed lightly. Her eyes were still closed, but her mind was slightly awakened. "I didn't mean to kick you out of your own bed."
"No. You just… go ahead back to sleep, and I'll just go get some water, clear my mind then I'll come back, ok?" When she felt the arms around her loosen, Arizona gently pulled away from her girlfriend. She went out of the room after putting on a tank top and a pair of shorts.
Callie happened to roll over in order to sleep on her stomach, then glanced at the clock before trying to get back to sleep. The next time she opened her eyes again, it was a half an hour later. And she was still alone in the bed. Groaning into the pillow, she pushed herself up. She put on the long sleeves shirt and jeans that she shed off earlier and fumbled to the living room to find the blonde sitting on the couch with a laptop in her lap.
Arizona heard the sound, and turned to smile sheepishly toward her girlfriend. But her smile fell when she found the woman fully dressed.
"What… why are you dressed? Are you leaving in the middle of the night?"
Callie gave her a small smile, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as she walked toward the couch slowly. The blonde quickly put the laptop on the coffee table before the brunette flopped down next to her, resting her head on her shoulder.
"Nope, I just picked up the clothes that were laying around on the floor. I was too lazy to get some pajamas." Callie smiled when she felt a kiss on top of her head.
"I'm sorry I woke you up."
"Don't be." Callie swiveled around to lay down on the couch, she used the blonde's lap as her pillow. "Why are you so nervous? Is it about the clinic?"
Arizona nodded slowly. She brought a hand to run through the raven hair spread over her lap. "I know I don't have to. I mean everything's ready. Bailey and I dragged the contractor in to fix the few little problems we found in there. The equipment had arrived and the medicine is fully stocked in the cabinets. A couple of the drug reps came over to give us more than enough samples than we need…" Arizona counted out softly. "My favorite scrub nurse is coming back to work in the clinic. The high profile nurse that Bailey and Carol appreciate so much is gonna arrive in the morning and Alex and his interns will be in there. Everything is set. But I am just so nervous, that I couldn't help but picture the worst."
Callie entwined her and Arizona's hands and put them on her stomach, then looked up to her girlfriend with a smile. She couldn't get over the fact that the blonde was so cute when she was fidgeting .
"As you said, everything is set, and remember you are not the only one in charge. Bailey is gonna be in there too. You know that, Bailey can deal with any unexpected situation."
Arizona chuckled lightly.
"There will be a grand opening of the clinic, and it will be great. Do you know why?" Callie continued after knowing the woman was intrigued. "Because I'll be in there too."
"You will?" Arizona's smile spread wider. Her hand was still running through the dark hair gently.
"Yes, of course I'll be there for you." Callie gave her a matching smile. "Besides, Mark told me the qualities of the nurses in your hospital are pretty high, I wanna go check it myself."
"Hey!" Arizona let out a playful yelp, and lightly shoved the brunette off of her lap. Callie rolled off of her, but quickly shifted to straddle the woman. She grabbed the surgeon's hands when she was trying to push the strong woman off again. Finally Callie successfully grasped her hands and drug them behind her back, pulling the slim body closer to her. They both laughed merrily.
"Seriously, you have nothing to worry about. You should go get some sleep. I know you wouldn't want to greet the patients with bags under your eyes."
"I know, but I couldn't shut my mind off." Arizona leaned forward to rest her head on the crook of Callie's neck, she then closed her eyes to enjoy the closeness that they were sharing.
"You know what? I have a cure for sleeplessness." Callie whispered into the blonde's ear, smiled when she felt the woman shivered.
"Oh really? What is that?" Arizona pulled back, raised her arms to wrap them around the Latina's neck, and looked into the brown eyes with a matching mischievous smile.
"How about… an awesome, earth-shattering orgasm, that makes you come so hard, so hard that you can hardly move your limbs afterwards?" Callie breathed out as her hand slowly snuck it's way under the tank top, kneading her way from the fair skinned hip up to the side of swelling flesh.
"Oh," Arizona pulled up the corner of her lips and smiled slyly. "Is that a guarantee?"
"That, is a guarantee." Callie laughed and stood up to pull her lover toward the bedroom.
By the time they went back into the room, their clothes had been shed off completely. Callie gently pushed the blonde on the bed, Then she bit the corner of her lip, watching her girlfriend as she seductively wriggled her way backward until she was laying in the middle of the bed. She choked on her breath when she caught the wink from the woman in bed.
Remembering her mission, Callie crawled in bed slowly. She picked up one of the creamy legs, kissed her way from the ankle, up along the inner thigh to her apex. She could feel Arizona's breathe increasing rapidly, she grinned on the silk like skin, and continued her way up to the torso, ignoring the place that the blonde wanted her to kiss the most.
Tanned hands followed the track of the lips, tenderly caressing the smooth thighs, the stomach, and the hips. Skilled hands kneaded the swollen breasts followed by a warm mouth gently nibbling and licking the other one. Arizona let out a shaky breath, hands flew up to tangle in the raven hair. Her breathing became more uneven when she caught the brown eyes gazing at her with fire.
After one last suckle, Callie lifted herself up to lock lips with the panting blonde. She slipped her thigh between Arizona's while gently nibbling the pink lips. But Arizona didn't have the patience for the tenderness anymore, she reached a hand up on the back of Callie's neck and thrust her tongue between the plump lips. The brunette moaned at the suddenness, but happily twined her tongue with Arizona's.
The passionate kiss continued for a while until oxygen was needed. Hips bucked together seeking friction on the throbbing parts. But Callie intended to drag on the direct touch, to build up the anticipation, to blow the woman's mind. She promised an earth-shattering orgasm, and hell she sure was going to deliver. She kept a hand on Arizona's chest, kneading and tugging on the peaked bud, her lips traveling between the earlobe and the jawline, then sucked on the pulse point lightly.
Slowly, the hand started to shift south. Arizona shuddered in the gentle touch, she took a sharp breath when the finger teasing her opened her so lightly. She shut her eyes from the sensation but could feel the lips on her skin spread into a grin.
"Calliope..." She moaned the brunette's name when the lips slid to her chest. A warm tongue drew circles when the finger continued the featherlike touch. She bucked and wriggled her hips to try and gain more of a connection, but Callie just kept retreating her finger.
"Calliope, please…" The blonde breathed out. She ran her hand through the raven hair when she felt the woman shudder. She locked eyes with her lover again, and found mixed emotions whirled in those brown eyes. "Please..."
Lifting herself up again, Callie hovered over the blonde with a sly smile, their faces were just centimeters away from each other. She shifted the finger to rub tight circles on the sensitive nub, making Arizona throw her head back in ecstasy and moan out loudly.
Callie lowered her head to capture the sweet lips fiercely. When their lips parted, she opened her eyes to gaze into the sparkling blue eyes, who staring back at her with a love, and a naughty dimpled smile.
"So you're going to use my name to get whatever you want, huh?" The brunette raised her well shaped eyebrows to look at the panting woman, adding more pressure on the finger between Arizona's thigh.
"I don't... I don't know what you're talking..." Arizona panted out. And as the magic between her center started to faint when Callie lightened the touch again, she brought a hand to run up and down Callie's spine, whispered to her ear, "I love you, Calliope..." She wanted to say more but she lost the ability to speak when two fingers plunged into her depth suddenly.
One last nip on the pink lips, Callie licked her way down...
"Hey Callie," Joe greeted his boss when the woman stepped into Horizon. "Why are you here?"
"I am not allowed to go to my own pub anymore?" Callie faked a shocked expression, and rounded the corner to step behind the bar to give Joe a playful punch on the shoulder. "I just went upstairs to check on the apartment, and do some laundry."
"So, they cleaned up the place?" The big man asked while stocking the liquor shelf. Callie rolled up her sleeves to place the glasses on the rack.
"Yea. I could smell the lemony detergent everywhere." The brunette showed a face of disgust, and Joe chuckled lightly. "I thought it would be gone after 2 days. But on the bright side I can go home tonight."
"How's it going with you and Arizona?" The man asked casually.
"Great! Really, really great." Finishing up the glasses, Callie turned around to face Joe fully. A hand on her hip and the other on the counter, she had a toothy smile plastered on her face. "I just… It's been a long time since I felt like this, you know. I miss being happy. And loved."
Joe didn't comment back he just stood there, smiling along.
"I'll go to the hospital at 4, her clinic's opening and I promised I'd be there to show my support. But I'll come back to work later, is that ok?" Callie asked a moment after they both returned to the task of preparing the night. Joe gave her a side-glance.
"We both know who signs the pay checks. Are you asking for my permission to play hookey?"
"Hey, you know we are equals in here. I never want you to feel like…"
"I am just messing with you, Callie. Of course it's OK. You go have fun. Enjoy the time with Arizona. Its a Tuesday night so it's not going to be so hectic tonight."
"Thank you Joe."
Joe opened his mouth about to say something, but the land line started to ring. The two of them looked at each other in surprise. It was not at their open hours yet, kinda odd to have someone calling the pub.
"Horizon." Joe went to pick up the phone, and then handed it to Callie. "It's for you."
Callie frowned slightly before took the phone.
"Hello?"
"Mija?"
"Daddy? How did you find this number?" Callie chanced a glance to Joe, who was looking back at her with wide eyes.
"Mija, knowing you are in Seattle, gave me enough information to track you down." Carlos Torres chuckled lightly on the other side of the phone. "How are you?"
"I'm fine." Callie answered before taking a deep breath.
"Calliope, we used to talk. Ever since you were a little girl, you used to call me when I was away on a business trip. You called me every Sunday morning after you went to college, you'd tell me everything that was going on with you and your crazy adventures." Papa Torres talked in a calm voice, but with a hint of sadness behind. "Ever since you started…"
"Being a sinner?" Callie couldn't help to sneer.
"I know you are mad at me, but you need to understand. You changed. You dated boys all types of boys, and all in a sudden there was a girl on my doorstep, claimed to pick you up for a date. I was shocked."
Callie gestured to Joe that she'd go to the back to her office while listening to her father on the phone. The tall man nodded in understanding.
"Daddy you cut me off, you rejected my calls. You cleared out my bank account." She protested as soon as she shut the door. Even though Joe was a close friend, there was some things she didn't want to share with everyone. That included the problem between her and her family.
"You didn't give me time to process it, Calliope."
"I thought 6 years was long enough. You were the same a few days ago." Remembering the reaction she got from her father, Callie couldn't help to act a bit hostile toward her father.
"You never gave me a chance to understand it. There is no difference between 6 years or 6 hours when I didn't know anything." Carlos sighed over the phone. "Your mother always said you are MY little girl. You are a just as strong minded and hotheaded as me."
Callie chuckled along with her dad. She remembered her mother, and even her abuela said it on numerous occasions. And she remembered the proud smile on her daddy's face.
"I was angry, so I shut you out. I thought that would teach you a lesson. But you just took off. You didn't even leave a word, you just disappeared. You didn't think about me, or your mother."
"Daddy, I was… I thought… I thought you didn't love me anymore. I thought you didn't want me around." Callie flopped down on her chair, and sighed deeply.
"Of course I love you. You are my daughter, Calliope." Papa Torres answered without missing a beat. "I have a job. As a father, I have a job to catch you whenever you leap off the bridge, or get on the wrong path, I have to catch you."
"And you still think I am walking on a wrong path." Callie said in a small voice. She didn't know where this conversation was heading to, but hearing her tough old man open up to her after some many years, stirred up her emotions and she didn't trust her voice to speak up.
"I don't know, I'm not sure. But at least now I am learning to understand it. After the talk with you and Arizona, I know that I have to take this step. I am willing to do anything to have my little girl back in my life." Carlos took a deep breath to compose himself. "Calliope, would you give me this chance?"
"Daddy." Callie couldn't hold it anymore, tears started to roll down her cheeks. "I miss you so much. I love you, you know that?"
"I do. And I love you too, mija." Papa Torres breathed a sigh of relief. "I am going reschedule my appointments. I'll go to Seattle in a few days. Can we… spend some time together? To catch up?"
"Yes daddy, of course. Just let me know when you arrive, I'll go to pick you up." She grabbed a tissue to wipe the happy tears on her face. "Dad I'm so happy."
"Me too, me too mija. I have to go. Did your phone display my number? Actually I haven't changed my number after all these year. Can you text me yours?"
"Yes dad, I will."
"And… Last time I saw a picture on your cell phone, of you and Arizona, can you send that to me? I love that smile on your face."
"Daddy, I'll send that to you right now." Callie took out her cell from her back pocket. She knew exactly which picture her dad was talking about. And even though she hadn't call the number in years, she remembered her father's number by heart.
"Good good good. OK, I'll see you in a few days mija."
After hung up the phone, Callie remained in her seat. Leaned back against the back of the chair, she rubbed her face with both hands. It was like a dream. Her father called. He hasn't called to apologize but kind of promised that he is going to accept her sexuality. This was big and it must have something to do with the talk between Arizona and her father.
Callie quickly flicked open her phone to call her girlfriend, but it went straight to voicemail. She pursed her lips slightly. Arizona didn't have a surgery scheduled this afternoon, why would her phone redirected to the voicemail?
A knock on the door stirred her, a second later a sheepish looking Joe stuck his head in the room.
"I saw the phone turn off. Is everything ok?" He asked with concern.
"Yes." Callie grinned. "Everything is great, actually."
"Are you sure? You were crying. And your father never called." Joe frowned.
"No, Joe. Those were happy tears." The smile on the brunette face spread wider. "I think my father and I are going to reconcile, after all these year."
"Really? It's great." The big man walked in deeper to the office, sat himself on the chair in front of his boss. "You never talked about your family, I thought you were an orphan."
"Nope." Callie looked to her phone when it beeped, it was a reply from her father about the picture she sent. "I just... well, they didn't accept it when I started to date women, we kinda had a fall out. I think Arizona helped to mend it. Can you believe her?" She chuckled, threw the mobile on the desk carelessly.
Joe stared at Callie. It really had been a long time since she laughed and smiled so freely. Of course she had laughed and joked around with people, but it never reached her eyes. That made his stomach flip just thinking about what he was going to tell her.
"Callie, I have to tell you something I don't want to, but I have to." Joe said in an uncomfortable voice, making the woman look at him with a frown. "3 days ago, George came by."
"What?" Callie scrunched her face in disbelief.
"You were still in LA, he came by. I told him you weren't here. Well, I didn't lie, you actually weren't here. He said he'll come again tonight."
Still in shock, Callie opened and closed her mouth a couple times but couldn't form a word. So Joe continued.
"Mark and I talked about this. We know we have to tell you but umm… better to wait until the last moment. So you don't have to worry for too long, you know…"
"Yes yes, of course." Callie had to lick her sudden dried lips in order to speak. "Did he… did he say how did he found me?"
"Nope. He just said he'll come again." Joe shook his head lightly.
"Fuck. I couldn't catch a break." Callie lowered her head banging it on the desk and groaned.
"Is there… anything you want me to do? When he comes over?" The big man asked with uncertainty, but his question made his boss chuckle.
"There's nothing we can do, Joe. I can't let you beat him up. Or… have someone guard the door to block his way." Callie sighed heavily. "Maybe it's a good thing. We can talk face to face, giving him closure."
Glanced to her watch, she stood up from the seat.
"I have to go, to Arizona's clinic… thing. And I have to tell her about my father and George. Damn it." She turned around to the man before crossing the threshold. "I wish something would happen in there that give me an excuse not to come back tonight."
