Chapter 27

"So, have you talked to cousin Andrea lately?" Carlos asked his daughter after taking a sip of his beer.

"Yeah, it seems like she's doing great in London." Callie answered with a smile on her face. Her father arrived about 10 minutes before 6, so she showed him the apartment and some old photos she had in the house. Now, they were sitting side by side on the bar stools in Horizon.

"Of course she is. Your mother was thrilled finally have Andrea joining the firm. She has quite a reputation in the business." Carlos chuckled and shook his head lightly. "And you know your mother always loves her like another daughter. As soon as the office in London set in motion, she sent Andrea there overnight. She said that she'd not trust another one that is not a Torres."

Callie chuckled along and rolled her eyes at her father.

"I thought mom was gonna come with you. How is she?"

"Oh… She had to meet an important client in London. She took a flight last night." Carlos smiled at his daughter, and patted her hand that rested on the bar top. "She's good, little problem with her blood pressure. Other than that, everything is good. She misses you a lot."

"Okay." Callie nodded slightly, and then looked at her father with an amused smile. "Wait, mom took a flight yesterday to London. I assume we are talking about the time share, right? And you took another one today? Another time share?"

"She took our private jet, I took a time share. What?" Carlos raised his eyebrows to his little girl. No matter how many years had passed, Calliope Torres was always his little girl.

"Nothing. Just… Arizona asked how rich you were. Now I have an answer." The Latina giggled while picking up her glass of white wine. Carlos just shook his head. He missed the girl's wicked sense of humor.

"Speaking of Arizona, where is she?"

"Ah, what time is it?" Too engaged in the easy conversation with her father, Callie didn't even realize her girlfriend was late. Glancing at her watch, she saw it was already a quarter to 7. "She was supposed to be here an hour ago. Would you mind if I go make a call?"

Carlos shook his head and waved his hand gesturing that it was ok. Callie pulled the cell phone from her back pocket and dialed the number of the blonde doctor. It connected after few rings.

"Hey hon…" Callie was about to greet her girlfriend, but she got cut off instantly.

"Callie, you're on speaker." Arizona said quickly before the pet name finished coming out from the other side of the phone. From the sound in the background, the doctor must have been in surgery.

"Oh, I'm sorry Arizona. I just called to see what time you were coming. Are you busy?"

"No. I mean, I should apologize. A kid from the clinic has Cystic Hygroma, and had to rush into emergency surgery before his trachea completely closed off. I should've called, sorry." The surgeon was talking to her girlfriend, but her hands didn't stop. She needed a good margin to cut off the hygroma.

"Don't be. You're saving a life." The brunette said, making sure the other side could hear the smile in her voice.

"Callie, I don't think I'll make it to dinner tonight. Are you ok with your dad?" Even though Arizona really wanted to be there to support her girlfriend, the boy on the table needed her more.

"Don't worry. Dad and I are catching up." Callie winked at her dad, who was waiting and listening to her conversation patiently.

"Great. I'll call you later?"

"Yes, call me later. Love you." The L word came out of her mouth before she could stop herself. Giggles came through the phone from the other side. Apparently the team in the OR shared and enjoyed this phone call as well. Callie heard her girlfriend clear her throat to cut off the giggles.

"Hmmm… love you too, bye Callie." Then, one of the scrub nurses ended the call for Dr. Robbins.

Callie put her phone back in her pocket with a smile. Her father looked at her with a matching smile, but said nothing.

"Sorry daddy, Arizona is in surgery and won't be able to join us tonight. I made the reservation at my favorite Italian restaurant in town. Shall we?" Callie said, putting both of her hands on the bar top, waiting for the old man. Carlos drank up the rest of his beer in response.

"Let's go. Hey Joe, nice to meet you. See you around?"

"Yes Mr. Torres, nice to meet you too." The bartender gave the man a gentle smile. But his smile froze when he saw the new incoming customer from the corner of his eyes.

Callie saw it and turned around to follow Joe's line of sight, it was George who was passing through the door.

Before she could find an excuse to pull her father out through the back door, Carlos had already turned around and found a fine looking young man standing in front of him with a smile.

"Hi Callie." He greeted the brunette, and then turned to face the older man and stretched out his hand. "Hi, you must be Mr. Torres. I'm George. George O'Malley."

Carlos Torres was not born yesterday. Of course he could pick up the change of atmosphere after this man showed up. Putting on his serious face, he shook the offered hand.

"Are you friend of Calliope's?"

"I'm…" But George got cut off before he could reveal himself.

"Oh my… look at the time. I have the reservation at 7, we have to go daddy." Callie linked her arm with her father's, gracefully and forcefully dragging the man to move before anyone said more than they should. "Bye Joe. Bye George."

"Callie," George called after her. "I'm here to tell you Dr. Robbins was in surgery…"

"I know, George. Thanks anyway." Callie answered over her shoulder, and then led her father out of the pub to their waiting car.

"What was that?" Carlos asked after they settled in his rental car. Callie gave the address to the driver and they were on their way to the restaurant.

"What was what?" Callie played innocent. She looked out of the window and started to make presentations. "So, here's the hospital that Arizona, and our best friend Mark work. And over there the building, the one with braze door frame is where they live…"

Carlos smiled at his daughter. He knew this girl well, very well. He knew his daughter was trying to change the subject and he decided to let her. Tonight was about reconciliation. He wasn't going to let it be ruined.

"Okay, I approved." Carlos wiped his mouth with the napkin. His daughter looked at him with a knowing smirk.

"I told you the food is good here. This is one of the best restaurants in Washington." Callie picked up her glass of wine, and winked to her old man before taking a sip. "Arizona took me here on one of our dates."

"She really likes you." The man mimicked his daughter, taking a sip of his wine.

"She loves me, and I love her too." Suddenly feeling embarrassed of declaring her love for her girlfriend, Callie wet her lips and put the glass down. She was happy to see that her father was smiling to her.

"So, are you two going to get married? I'm still trying to catch up with the whole same sex marriage thing. But, are you two going to… you know, spend the rest of your lives together?"

Callie was really surprise in how much her father had changed. Weeks ago he was still questioning her 'life style', and now, they were sitting here having a candlelight dinner, sipping wine and talking about his daughter marrying a woman.

"When the time comes… I don't know, maybe." The brunette shrugged. "My life has been a roller coaster these last few years..."

"I'm sorry, mija." Carlos cut her off. He reached out to put his hand over his daughter's on the table. "I shouldn't…"

"No daddy. It's fine." Callie stroked her father's aged hand by her thumb. "Things happen for a reason. If I didn't run away, I wouldn't have meet Malena, Mark or Addison in New York."

"You've talked about Mark, the plastic surgeon who gave you the idea to move to Seattle. But what about Malena and Addison?" The man asked. He wanted to know everything that had happened to his little girl when he wasn't there to protect her. He already met Arizona and Joe, and heard about the stories about Mark. All those people were there to do the things he failed to do as a father.

"Addison and Mark worked together in New York. They were a couple back there. I knew them at the same time. She was like a sister to me before she moved to LA. She's running her own practice out there now." A small smile came to her face when she recalled her time with Addison in New York, the good times.

"So, she's a doctor too?"

"The best OBGYN and neonatal surgeon in the US." Callie said proudly. "That was why we met in LA. I went there to visit Addie with Arizona."

"Remind me to thank her later." Carlos laughed lightly. "And Malena? Another doctor friend?"

"Malena… She was my girlfriend in New York. She was the first woman I ever loved." Callie tweaked the corner of her lips to suppress her emotion. Even though it had been a while, and she had found an equally amazing woman in her life again, the dead girlfriend still held a special place in her heart.

"She died of cancer?" Her father asked softly. He saw the sadness in his little girl's eyes.

"How did you know?" The brunette's eyebrows rose up to her forehead in surprise.

"Arizona told me. She said you were devastated because of that." Carlos gave his daughter a bitter smile. "In my whole life, I thought I was a good father. I brought bread to the table. I gave you the things that I didn't dare to dream of when I was little. I thought that was enough. I failed you, Calliope."

"Daddy..." Callie put her free hand over her father's, and gave it a squeeze to try to soothe the man.

"I should've been there to hold you when you wanted to cry over this girl, mija. Instead, I turned my back on you because I didn't agree with you. I should've protected you but I didn't." Carlos shook his head while sighing deeply.

"You don't have to protect me, daddy." Callie said sincerely. "I'm a big girl."

"Yes I do, this is my job. No matter how old you get, it's still my job to keep you safe." Carlos looked deep into the brown eyes. "And I promise you, I'll make it up to you, mija."

"I don't need you to make up anything. Having you back in my life is the greatest gift I could ever ask for." The brunette patted her dad's hand one more time before loosening the grip. She leaned back so the waiter could pick up their finished plates.

"So, life in Seattle is good, huh?" Carlos asked after the waiter left them alone again. He was really enjoying the night so far. Conversation with this daughter was always pleasurable and flowing seamlessly. He was glad they still could do that. "Have you thought about moving back to Miami?"

"I don't think so, at least for a while. Arizona's career is taking off out here. I don't think she'll consider relocating her work to Miami." Callie shrugged, finger roaming the rim of her wine glass.

"What about your career?" Carlos asked after a moment of silence, his eyes following the tanned finger rounding the glass.

"What do you mean?" Callie chuckled, stopping her finger and picking up the glass to take a sip. "I have a business out here."

"I know, Calliope." Carlos mimicked his daughter, but instead of taking a sip, he finished his in a gulp. "Just… don't get me wrong, ok? I just… like every other father, I want my child to be a lawyer, a doctor, a professor, or a CEO of an international corporation. And I know I am not talking crazy because you were half way there."

Callie didn't respond, she just put down her glass, and started chewing the inside of her mouth as she stared at her father.

Their waiter approached them to fill the glasses again.

"You have a family business to inherit if you want it. You went to college. You went to med school. You can do something bigger than... This."

"So you think bartending is not a proper career?" Callie gave her father a stink eye. Carlos couldn't help but spread a wild smile. He was so familiar with this look. The three women in his family gave him this look on numerous occasions.

"I didn't say that." He shook his head slightly. "I'm just saying, if having this pub is what you want for your future, I'm more than happy to invest in it. Make it a pub and restaurant. Multiple locations. I can even give you spaces in the hotels."

"Are you trying to buy your way back to my life, dad?" The brunette gave a short, derisive laugh. Knowing her father, he was not joking.

"Not like that. That is family money, which is your money anyway." Carlos shrugged and picked up his glass to wet the lips. "If being in the catering business is your calling, why not? Putting money in your business is a real investment. Do you know how much your mother spend on a pair of shoes? And she called those investments."

The father gave a deep rumbling laugh at his own joke, Callie chuckled along and shook her head slowly.

"I haven't really thought about it." The brunette took a deep breath. "Actually, I have. But not about the pub."

"What is it then?" Carlos frowned.

"I told Arizona I went to med school but didn't continue the path. She talked to her boss and found out I graduated with flying colors." Callie cast a lopsided smile to her father. "I think he told me my result was in the top rank for 10 years or something."

"That's… fantastic. I always knew you were good in school." Carlos's brows shot to his forehead and his lips spread from ear to ear.

"The chief in Seattle Grace Mercy West made me an offer. He'll recruit me as an intern in his hospital if I passed the upcoming med school exam again." Callie wet her lips nervously. She had talked about this with Mark, Addison and now her father. No matter how many times she told people, it still felt surreal.

"So you are going to be a doctor, after all? I'm so proud of you mija." Carlos picked up his glass intended to toast with his daughter. But Callie held up her glass with hesitation.

"But… I am not sure I want it. I mean, won't that be too late for me? I am 6 years late. If I started my internship now, I'll be working with a bunch of kids. That will be so weird to fight the chance with them."

"Don't be ridiculous." Carlos furrowed his brows, placed his glass back on the table softly. "6 years is not a big difference. And think about the people who went to night school, they took longer time to finish colleges or med schools. Or the people took the time to travel the world. Or the ones who joined the Doctor Without Borders, or the Peace Corps. You won't be the only one who started late."

"Still, it's weird." Callie pursed her lips, finger rounding the rim of the glass again.

"What does Arizona say about this?" Papa nodded slightly, a small smile came on his face.

"She said…" Plump lips tweaked, Callie answered after a heavy sigh. "It's a waste if I don't do it. My score was even better than hers."

Carlos gazed at the woman for a moment. The smile never left his face.

"Remember the time you came to me and told me you wanna open a pub with your two cousins?"

"How can I forget?" Callie cast her father a playful smirk, brought the glass to her lips for a sip. "You told me I knew nothing about running a pub, I didn't even know how to serve people. You basically called me a spoiled brat."

"I thought you were." Let out a couple of laughs, he continued. "You were so angry. And do you remember what you told me? You said there had an opportunity presented itself, you were gonna take it and enjoy the ride. Even if it might not go as planned, you could still be successful because you believed in yourself and gave your very best in everything that you did."

Looking at her father with wide-eyes, Callie couldn't believe he remembered what she said after all these years.

"That was the moment I was 100% certain you were my daughter. I was so proud of you. You spent all your free time in there while your cousins went to parties. And you started to earn money after 6 months."

"Well, the 3 bosses were a part of the college kids helped." The Latina smiled shyly.

"Still, you knew what you were doing and you did a terrific job. So, there's this opportunity presenting itself, a second time. What are you gonna do?"

"Callie?"

Arizona used her key to enter her girlfriend's apartment. It was just passed 11. The doctor was tired from operating for almost 7 hours, but the adrenaline was still coursing through her system. She felt bad for ditching Callie and her father but she wouldn't regret it for the world from seeing the relieved smile on Mr. Baker's face. And the confused look on Mrs. Baker's face…

The last text she received from Callie was about half an hour ago, telling her that they had finished dinner, and that Carlos' driver was taking her home.

The living room was empty. Putting her bags down by the couch, Arizona walked into Callie's bedroom and found the sound of running water coming from the in-suite bathroom. She knocked lightly and then pushed it open. There it was. Her very naked and wet girlfriend grinning at her over her shoulder in the glass shower stall.

"Hey." Arizona smiled back, leaning against the basin directly in front of the shower stall, and watching the brunette as she turned and faced her fully.

"Hey. I missed you." Callie rubbed off the water from her face before tilting her head, and closing her eyes letting the water run down her body.

"I know. I'm sorry." Arizona murmured. Her focus had immediately drawn to the body before her. Watching as the water slowly flew down the well Greek sculpture liked body, she found her throat suddenly so dry that it made her hard to swallow.

"I took dad to our restaurant, he liked it too." As to make matters worse, Callie brought her hands up to rinse her long black hair, opening up her heavy chest completely. It was surprising that the blonde remembered how to breathe, let alone keep the conversation. Hearing no response from the intruder, Callie cracked an eye open and found blue eyes staring at her with a dreamy look. She couldn't help but to chuckle. "Hey, I didn't know I was giving a show in here."

"I'm sorry." With the deepest blushes, the peds surgeon turned her head to another direction. The giggle from the Latina told her that she didn't really mind. The next time she looked back to the glass stall, she found Callie swiveled to face the wall again.

After a couple of seconds, hearing no banter coming from her usual chatty girlfriend, Callie turned her head to see what the blonde was doing. Before she knew it, the glass door opened, and an equally naked Arizona stepped in the shower with a smile.

"Well, I came over here as soon as I scrubbed out," The blonde said slowly, and stepped close behind Callie. Hands landed on either side of the tanned upper arms, then ran up and down gently while pink lips glided along the side of long neck in front of her. "I didn't have time to shower yet. I hope you won't mind if I join you."

The Latina couldn't form an answer, she just hummed her approval and titled her head to the side, giving the hungry lips more space to move.

Arizona placed a hard kiss on the strong shoulder before shifting to pour some body wash onto the sponge. A hand rubbing gentle circles on Callie's back with the sponge, and the other hand roaming around her hip toward her stomach. Her thumb brushed the base of swelling beasts from time to time.

"I thought you wanted to take a shower?" Callie teased her girlfriend, even though she was enjoying the attention, a lot.

"You know I always wanna take care of you first." Another kiss placed on the crook of Callie's neck, the sponge went to the lower back in the meantime. "How was dinner with your dad?"

"Seriously?" Stunned by the question, Callie pulled away slightly and turned her head to look at the blue eyed blonde. "We are naked in the shower. You want to talk about my father now?"

"Ewww…" Arizona scrunched her face and shook her head rapidly. "No!"

Callie swiveled around to face her girlfriend with a naughty grin. Then brought her arms to rest on the fair shoulders. Instantly, Arizona's creamy hands sneaked around the strong hips to pull their bodies together.

"The dinner was great. But I missed you, so very much." The brunette leaned forward to kiss the woman in her arms playfully. She pulled back quickly before Arizona could respond, one time, two times… but before she could pull back the third time, strong surgeon hand came to raven hair to lock her in place. And she was pushed up against the wall in the next second.

Callie moaned at the sudden movement, but Arizona swallowed it. She slid her tongue between the plump lips, and was immediately greeted by an eager warm flesh. They tangled, entwined, and fought for dominance. But Callie lost it when a creamy hand climbed up to her silken swell, pinched her nipple while a strong thigh slipped between hers.

Arizona absolutely meant business. The surgeon was high from a successful surgery earlier. Especially being that the case was coming from the clinic, her clinic. She wanted to share this with the woman she loved, of course. And a little celebration was in her mind but she didn't think they could get it tonight. After all, the chances of Carlos Torres was still here was high.

Finding her girlfriend alone in the apartment, naked in the shower did elevate her arousal greatly. She planned to take it slow. A little playful caress to tease the woman, to torture her, to make her beg for more… But who was she kidding? She was torturing herself.

Within minutes, Callie found herself enveloped by the shorter woman, a hand snuck around her lower back for leverage, while two fingers from the other hand slid home pumping in a fast pace, all the while a skilled mouth working on her chest nibbling, flicking and sucking.

She knew her girlfriend seemed different tonight. But right now, she was not going to question it. All she could do was brace herself for this intense ride. A hand reached out to grasp the shower head to support herself, the other hand held the blondes head close to direct her to the places in need, and the hips rocked to meet each forceful thrust.

"Fuck… Arizona, I'm close. Don't stop." Callie panted out, her own hips ground hard on the hand. She knew Arizona was grinding on her thigh, but she was too far gone to do anything to help her girlfriend out. All she could do was to tighten the grip on the shower head.

Arizona bit on the side of the jiggling breast inducing a painful but sexy groan from the panting woman. Then she attached her lips to Callie's pulse point sucking gently, as a skilled thumb flicked the bundle of nerves rapidly while slim fingers massaged that sweet spot… The Latina cried out the pleasure, and Arizona's own climax hit her when her fingers were sucked in even deeper while the walls contracted around them.

Arizona withdrew her fingers from the warmth, and rubbed her girlfriend's center with her whole hand to bring the spent woman back down from her height. She pinned the body against the wall with hers to support the both of them while they were trying to catch their breath. The blonde's head rested on the strong shoulder, and with chest against chest they could feel each other's heartbeat as one.

Still trying to even out her breath and heartbeat, Callie found the energy to bring a hand up, brush the damp golden locks away from the angelic face, and she leaned down to place a chaste kiss on Arizona's temple. Blue eyes gazed back at her with satisfaction.

"Not that I'm complaining," Callie said with a harsh voice. She tried to clear her throat and continued. "Not at all. But what was that? The fire in your eyes?"

Arizona chuckled, and nuzzled deeper against the dark tresses with embarrassment. But Callie wasn't going to let it slide.

"Come on, tell me. Did I do something to turn you on like that?" The brunette nudged the silent woman with her hips. "Tell me what it was? Whatever it was I have to do it more often."

They both fell into a fit of the giggles. Their bodies shook together while their hands tightened to hold on to each other closer.

Finally, Arizona lifted her top half but her lower body was still pressed against Callie. She brought her arms up to encircle Callie's neck with a lopsided smile on her face.

"Well, get used to it. I just rocked a surgery and I wanted to celebrate with my girlfriend."

"Celebrate?" Callie questioned with her eyebrows shot to her forehead.

"It wasn't a difficult case, but it was a special and successful surgery." Arizona leaned forward and grazed her lips across the plump lips lightly. She breathed out, "It's the rush, the adrenaline, and the gratification of saving a life."

"So, it's a doctor thing?" Mesmerized by the sensation, Callie breathed out against the lips that were just hairline away from hers.

"It's a doctor thing. We tend to celebrate a successful surgery." The surgeon closed the remained distance. She captured Callie's bottom lip with hers and sucked it softly. But Callie pulled back before she could deepen the kiss.

"You know," The Latina gazed into confused blue eyes with a smirk. "If you told me about this celebration thing earlier, I might have made my decision quicker."

"Huh?" Arizona asked with her mouth agape.

"I talked to dad about the whole retaking the med exam thing... and I decided to go for it." A beaming grin spread on Callie's face when she found a wide dimpled smile on display.

Arizona grabbed her girlfriend's still rosy cheeks with both hands, and pulled the woman close to her for a hard kiss.

"God, we have a lot of celebrating to do tonight."
