Chapter 51

Doctors really do make the worst patients, it's not a joke.

"Come on, sweetie. Take a shower first. You'll feel better afterwards." Callie stood by the bed, pulling the hand of the blonde who collapsed on the bed as soon as they entered the bedroom.

"No." Arizona whined, wriggling her body weakly trying to get comfortable on the fluffy blanket. The adrenalin had gone out and every ounce of energy she had left was used to walk home. Once she arrived in her comfort zone - the home she shared with her love, the exhaustion finally hit her and she could barely open her eyes now.

"Arizona, I know you're tired but please, don't fall asleep yet." Callie kneeled down to peel off her girlfriend's shoes. "You are sticky from sweating. And you're still burning up. Please, take a cold shower and you'll feel much better. I promise."

"No. I just wanna sleep." Arizona whined again, but she didn't fight Callie when the brunette unfastened her belt buckle and pulled down her jeans.

"Don't fall asleep yet." Callie climbed onto the bed, pulling the feeble body to sit up so she could take off the jacket and shirt. "God, you're heavy. Stay with me, Arizona. Take a shower, and I'll get you something to eat and then you can rest, ok?"

"No. Sleep." Arizona protested with a pout, but Callie had already dragged her out of the bed and pulled her on her feet. The freakishly strong brunette wrapped around her tightly and walked them toward the bathroom. Knowing there was no point of fighting now, Arizona shed off the rest of her garments and stepped in the cubical.

Callie was right, a shower did made her feel better. Wrapped herself with a towel, Arizona drug her tired body toward the bed with half closed eyes. But she was stopped by her caregiver who just returned to the bedroom in time.

"No no, you are not sleeping with damp hair." Callie placed a bowl on top of the nearby cabinet hurriedly, and then strode toward the blonde before she could hit the bed.

"Please Callie, I can barely open my eyes. I can't even hold a hairdryer now." Arizona pursed her lips. She was about to burst into tears because all she wanted right now was to sleep on her bed, but Callie just kept denying her wish.

But her whine quickly turned into a content sigh after Callie settled her on the closed toilet, to blow dry her golden lock and used the free hand to massage her scalp.

"Hmm... I can get use to this." Arizona moaned with her eyes closed.

"What?" Callie asked over the loud hairdryer, she couldn't really catch what her girlfriend was saying.

"I said," Arizona tilted her head to smile to Callie. "I am happy that you're here to take care of me."

Callie smiled back and gave a little peck on the fair cheek. Once the hair was done, the two went back to the bedroom and the blonde finally settled in bed after putting on the sleeping clothes that Callie prepared for her.

"No, don't close your eyes yet." Callie sat down on the edge of the bed with the abandoned bowl. "Have some warm soup before go to sleep."

"I am not hungry, Callie."

"You haven't eaten anything the whole day. You need to put something in your stomach." Callie scooped a spoonful of soup, blew it gently before holding it in front of the blonde.

"What is this?" Arizona pursed her lips tight and frowned at the spoon.

"Cream of chicken." Callie answered innocently and placed the spoon closer to the zipped tight lips.

"Canned soup? You're feeding me canned soup when I'm sick?" Arizona wrinkled her nose as if she was about to throw up. Callie put down the spoon quickly.

"I... I don't have time to cook. And you like cream of chicken soup."

"No I don't." Blue eyes rolled to the ceiling and her head turned to the side. Callie had to bit her lips to repress the snicker.

"Since when?"

"Since I'm sick." Arizona cast a cursory glance at the brunette, then turned her head further away from the stunned brunette.

"Come on, Arizona. Just a few spoons, ok?" Callie pulled her lips to a wide grin coaxing the childlike blonde woman. "I will make you something healthy tonight. You're a doctor, you know that you need to eat."

"You're a doctor, Callie. You know that I need to rest."

Arizona cocked her head to stare at the woman before her, that made Callie chuckle involuntary. She knew the blonde could act childish from time to time, but this level of antic was new, and adorable.

"Ok, 5 spoons sweetie. I can get you a cracker to go with the soup if you want. Just 5 spoons, then I'll let you sleep." The brunette scooped another spoonful of soup, held it up and looking at Arizona with her eyebrows raised to the forehead. Finally, the patient opened up her mouth reluctantly.

As soon as the warm soup slid down her throat, Arizona realized how hungry she actually was. Callie snickered and fed the blonde spoon by spoon without counting it. Soon enough, more than half bowl of the soup was gone and Callie put it down with a satisfied smile on her face.

After gulping down the meds, Arizona was finally allowed to rest her head on the pillow. Callie tucked her in and kissed her forehead, checking her temperature in the meantime.

Before Callie could turn to leave the room, a hand reached out and tugged the hem of her shirt.

"Please don't go." Arizona whispered.

"I'm just gonna take the bowl to the kitchen and clean it up, ok? You close your eyes and get some rest."

"No, don't go again." Arizona pouted, batting her drowsy eyes looking at her girlfriend. "Just stay with me, please?"

Callie gazed down at the pitiful blonde fondly. Without a second thought, she kicked off her shoes and climbed in bed, holding Arizona from behind.

They both heaved a sigh when the warm bodies molded together. It had been a long 2 days and they were glad that they were back to their comfortable little bubble again.

"Callie?" Suddenly, a mumble rang in the quiet room. Callie left her head slightly to peek at the woman in her arms, who had her eyes closed. "Did I really punch Hahn?"

"You don't remember?" The brunette popped her head up against the elbow, using her free hand brushing Arizona's cheek fondly. "You broke her nose."

"So it wasn't a dream?"

"No, it wasn't a dream. As I've heard it was one single hit. Your dad would be proud." Callie chuckled, but she got no response from the woman. Leaning forward gazing at the peaceful face, she found the blonde was breathing in and out evenly with a content smile on her face. Arizona always wore a smile in her sleep, and Callie could just look at her like this forever. Entwining their hands together gently, Callie whispered in Arizona's ear. "Arizona? Do you remember you asked me to marry you?"

The only answer was an incoherent mutter. The sleeping beauty had already gone to the dreamland.

Burying her nose in the golden locks and inhaled deeply, the familiar scent of body wash and shampoo invaded Callie's every sense. Warmth spread deep inside her and she couldn't help to smile when the body in her arms pushed back and nestled against her front unconsciously. The coziness between them relaxed her and the exhaustion overtook finally.

Callie startled when there was faint music floating in the air. It took her a few moments to realize it was Arizona's ringtone. Their bags were thrown on the living room floor as soon as they entered the apartment and the phones were still in there.

Looking over to the alarm clock on the nightstand, Callie was surprised that this little nap went on for almost 3 hours. Cautiously disentangling herself from the blonde, Callie placed a hand on the fair face to check her temperature before leaving the bedroom. She was searching for the phone in Arizona's bag, but before she located the device, there was a knock on the front door.

Opening the door, Callie didn't expect to see the person standing outside her apartment.

"Pam? What are you doing in here?" Callie asked. It wasn't an accusation but simply a surprise, but that was good enough to make the friend of Arizona's stutter.

"I... I've been calling Arizona all day but she didn't pick up. I just... I know she's mad at me and Nicole. I just want to see if she's alright and..." Pam smiled to Callie timidly. "Nicole was supposed to come with me, but she's not feeling well. She caught a cold from last night."

"Oh, ok." Callie stepped aside and gestured Pam to enter the apartment. "Arizona is sick too. She couldn't answer your call because she's sleeping. You wanna go see her? She's in the bedroom."

"No, if she's sleeping then just let her rest. Actually, I was hoping to talk to you..." Pam turned to face Callie after entering the apartment. "I owe you an apology."

Callie gasped at the woman, not knowing how to respond.

"Nicole and I... we were being rude to you. I really, really want you to know that it wasn't personal. I mean, we didn't meant to irritate you." Pam said hurriedly as the girlfriend of her best friend just stood there with an unreadable expression. She wet her lips and scratched the back of her short blonde hair anxiously.

"I know, you wanted to piss Arizona off." Callie answered coldly, casting a sidelong glance toward Pam before she walked toward the kitchen. "But it really stunk."

"I know. And I am so sorry." Pam accepted a bottle of water offered by the host. "Just... I've known Arizona for so long. This was how we teased each other. Sometimes we just pushed a little too far and didn't realize it. She didn't tell us much about your... you know. It was just fun to have something to taunt her about."

"So you thought it was fun to make jokes about my miserable life?" Callie raised her eyebrows, looking at the short hair blonde with a sneer.

"In my defence, I didn't know that." Pam sighed. "I know, I know. We weren't supposed to make fun of you when we didn't know anything about you. But knowing Arizona fell in love with a woman who was married to a man, we just couldn't pass the chance to tease her."

"What is it so unbelievable? She met someone, falling in love and being happy?" Callie kept her face cold. She had heard from Joe that Arizona slipped out that part of her life unintentionally but didn't get into the details. Still, there had been no point for both Pam and Nicole to mock her about it.

"We've known each other since college. Over the years, both Nicole and I've tried numerous times to fix her up with someone. But those women were either too loud, too dull, too talkative, too quiet, or too straight for her. She actually said that she wouldn't date a newborn at some point. You can imagine the shock I felt when she told us that you were married to a man." Pam shrugged, following Callie to the living room and sat down on the couch next to her.

"Newborn?" Callie frowned before taking a sip of her water. Pam smirked remembering her friend's word.

"Newborn lesbian. The term she used to describe women who just had a new found interest in loving women. I'm not saying she was being arrogant, she just had a lot of ridiculous rules when it came to date someone."

"Why? She'd been burned that badly?"

"Not that I'm aware of. I knew she had a high school sweetheart named Joanne, but they broke up after she went to college. She said she didn't believe in long distance relationships." Pam shifted on the couch. "That's why she freaked out when you went back to Miami. And that was the time we finally knew she was in a serious relationship with you."

"Ah! Me going back to Miami again." Callie titled her head letting out a sarcastic laugh.

"I know, I know. It's a bridge under the water now but you have to understand that, we have never seen Arizona so head over heels in love with someone. She was drunk and crying and she even said that she'd move to Miami if that's what you wanted." The short hair blonde held up her hand and gestured to the bedroom, Callie followed gesture and glanced at the open door, not being able to hold her smirk anymore.

"She actually said that? I didn't know."

"Seriously, she is crazy about you, Callie. Whatever happened between you two, I really hope you made up ok." Pam said sincerely, holding out her hand in front of Callie. "And I really hope you accept my apology. Once again, I am sorry for mocking you and I want us to be friends. Can we start over?"

Callie smiled sweetly and accepted the handshake without hesitation.

"Thank you, for coming over. And yes, I am glad that we can be friends because I'm probably gonna need help from your wedding planner wife very soon. Arizona asked me to marry her."

Callie said with a broad grin. Next thing she knew, Pam was squealing and jumped forward, wrapping her arms around Callie's neck for a tight hug.

"Oh my god! That is so great! Arizona Robbins is getting married!"

"Shh! Pam, Arizona's sleeping." The brunette chuckled lightly and looked over to the bedroom, afraid that the high-pitch scream was going to wake up her sick fiancee.

"I am sorry. I am just so excited for you two. I never thought she'd settle down with anyone." Pam sat straight, still wearing a big smile on her face. "You know, there was once that I told her she needed to find someone, have a family and settle down before she became a lonely old woman stay in the a house full of cats. She just said that at some points, she'd go join the Doctors without borders, saving sick people around the world until she died. She was going to marry to her job. I guess now that means I don't have to worry about her running around in a third world for the rest of her life."

"She wants to join the Doctors without borders? I didn't know that." Well shaped eyebrows rose up in surprise.

"Well, maybe she didn't really mean it. We were kinda joking around that night. Nick just came to visit after his trip to India, sharing his experience about how he was there teaching those kids, fulfilling his calling which helped change the world and stuff." Pam made a grimace. From the way she talked about Nick - the childhood friend of Arizona's, no doubt that they knew each other pretty well too.

"Right, Nick the savior. Arizona said he is in Tibet now, is he still there?"

"I think so." Pam bounced on the couch enthusiastically. "We need to get him back for your wedding. I know Arizona will be thrilled to have him there. Have you chosen a date yet?"

"Well, we haven't really talked about that yet. Everything happened so fast." Callie grinned while recalling that moment. "She was in the ER after punched my ex-girlfriend in the nose. Out of the blue she asked me to marry her and then I had to take her home..."

"She punched your ex-girlfriend? Rock on Arizona! Awesome!" The short hair blonde couldn't hold her squeak again, holding out her right hand hoping for a high 5 from Callie. But the brunette denied her with a roll of the brown eyes.

"Hey, it wasn't awesome. Violence shouldn't... Ok, it was kinda awesome."

Suddenly, there was a debilitated voice calling from the bedroom.

"Callie..."

The brunette bolted out of the couch rushed to the bedroom in a second. As she reached inside, she found Arizona had woken up and rubbed her forehead with a hand.

"I'm thirsty." The blonde said huskily after she spotted the movement from the door. Callie strode forward and picked up a glass of water by the night stand, helping the patient sit up lightly and brought the glass to her lips. But Arizona turned her head away after a little sip. "No, it's bland. Can I have some juice, please?"

Callie chuckled slightly to the puppy dog eyes in front of her. Her hand caressed the pale cheek fondly before promised for a glass of fresh orange juice. Running across the living room, she met with Pam's questioning eyes.

"She's up and asking for orange juice." Callie opened the refrigerator, pulling out the jug and took a quick look inside, she called over the woman sitting on the couch. "I'm about to make us some dinner, do you want to stay for a bite?"

Pam stood up from the couch and walked into the kitchen, leaning against the breakfast bar and smiled to Callie who was pouring the juice into a glass.

"She's being difficult, right? She's always like a spoiled brat when she's sick. Good luck with that." The two shared a knowing smile and Pam walked backward to the front door. "I'm going to leave you with her. I should go home to my own sick wife. Let's do dinner after she gets better, ok? We need to celebrate."

Callie walked her guest to the front door and shared a friendly hug before Pam walking out of the apartment. Hurried back to the kitchen picking up the drink, she entered the bedroom and met with an adorable pout.

"What took you so long?" Arizona said without looking at her caregiver. "And who were you talking to?"

"Pam was here." Callie set the glass down, helping her fiancee sit up before bringing the fresh juice to the dry lips. "You didn't answer her calls, so she came over to see if you are still mad at her."

Arizona stared at the woman before her while gulping down half of the glass. She was trying to search for any sort of resent from the brunette's face but there was none.

"Did she say anything?" The blonde asked after thoroughly moistening her throat, her voice was hoarse from the flu. "I will go punch her in the nose if she said anything to upset you. I'm on fire, you know."

"You're on fire because you're running a fever." Callie smiled and planted a tender kiss on the creamy cheek. "No, she was very nice to me. She actually came to apologize to me."

"She did?"

"She did. And we had a little talk. Everything's good between us now, so you don't have to cut her off." Callie sat down on the edge of the bed, put down the glass and used the free hand to stroke Arizona's face and forehead, checking on her temperature. The blonde closed her eyes and sighed contently.

"I'm glad because it'll be awkward if I have to find another wedding planner." Arizona smiled.

"You remember you proposed to me?" Callie's small smile spread to a wide grin slowly, her hand dropped on the bed and Arizona entwined their fingers together instantly.

"Of course I remember. What? You're gonna take it back?"

"No, I just... you didn't even remember you punched Erica, I thought you..."

"Not that I don't remember, I just didn't believe I really did it. You know that I'm against violence." Arizona giggled foolishly. "But marrying you? It's in my mind all alone."

Callie couldn't help herself. She leaned forward wanting to kiss the pink lips of her fiancee's, but Arizona turned her head to the side avoiding the kiss.

"Not on the mouth, Calliope. I'm sick."

"I don't care. I want to kiss my fiancee." Callie whispered and lunged forward again. This time Arizona didn't deny her and let their closed lips pressed together. They both couldn't suppress their smile into the kiss.

After they pulled apart, the blonde shifted in the bed to give room for Callie to lie down next to her. They snuggled against each other as the blonde head rested on the strong shoulder, and Callie's arms wrapped around her tightly.

"So, we are getting married." The brunette dipped her head to kiss on Arizona's forehead one more time. "Should we talk about when and how are we going to do it?"

Arizona tilted her head to gaze into the brown eyes.

"Calliope, I wasn't just saying it when I said we need a wedding planner. I want a white wedding. I know, I know. You were married once and already did the wedding thing but for me, this is important. Not because it is my first, and hopefully the only one, it's because I'm marrying you. When I picture you and me getting married, I want to see you in a white dress walking down the aisle to me. Vow to each other that we would dedicate our lives to the other in front of our families and friends. Can we do that? Would you mind... having a wedding party?"

"Oh Arizona, I love you so, so much." Callie breathed out and tightened her arms around the vulnerable woman. "To be honest, I don't even think the one in Vegas with George could be categorized as a wedding. I've told you, I was so drunk that I didn't even know what had happened until the next morning I woke up with a ring on my finger."

Arizona didn't say anything but sighed lightly. And Callie continued.

"And I've told you, anything would make you happy, I'd do it. So, I don't mind having a big wedding party as long as you're my bride. We'll both wear wedding dresses in front of the people we love and care for. We're going to have a big reception that we're going to dance as wife and wife for the first time. We're going to have a 4 tier wedding cake with a blonde and a brunette doll on top. How'd that sound?"

"It sounds amazing." Arizona nuzzled deeper into Callie's neck with a beaming smile. She closed her eyes and let the imagination running in her head. But her mind was interrupted when the body next to her shook from snickering.

"And I can't wait to rip the wedding dress off of you on our wedding night." Callie blurted out when she met with the confused blue eyes. The blonde smacked her chest playfully before both of them broke into a fit of giggles.

"Well, you'll have to wait then." Arizona said softly after they fell back into the cozy embrace. The talk had tired her that made her let out a small yawn. "I don't want to rush it. Call me selfish but I don't want the intern exam to distract you from planning our wedding."

"Anything you want, Arizona." Callie picked up a soft hand and brought it to her lips. "But first, I'm going to get you a perfect engagement ring. As Beyonce said, I need to put a ring on it."

"Really? Engagement ring is in your priority? I'd think engagement sex or make-up sex would be the first in your mind." The blonde smirked lightly, and tried hard to suppress another yawn. She was enjoying the little pillow talk with her lover next to her. She had missed it while the tension of having Erica between them ran high in the last few weeks, but her tired body had betrayed her and her mind was drifting away.

"You're sick. And we are going to have 3 uninterrupted, no paging days ahead of us. We'll have all the time we need for that." Tanned hand stroke her fiancee's back up and down tenderly, relaxed her body and luring her closer and closer to the much needed snooze. "And now, we're going to have a make-up snuggle. I'll call Joe to bring us some foods after we wake up, ok?"

Arizona nodded her head slightly, sank deeper into the warm and soft body next to her. The last thing she heard before falling into a slumber was Callie's soft whisper.

"Sleep like an angel, my fiancee."
