Chapter 15
A few days later…
Gwen was panting, harshly, after 7 hours of healing injured and sickly people from Tristain as practice for her Void magic training. Saito, as promised, had helped her in focusing and saving up her Void energy with some help from Louise. At this point Gwen was good at focusing her energy but working for 7 hours without a single break aside from bathroom breaks and lunch was a bit much.
"Gwen, I think you should be done for today. It's not good to strain yourself so much in one day," said Saito, a worried look on his face.
"But…*pant*…look at all the…*pant*…people still out there," said Gwen, looking as if she could pass out from exhaustion at any moment.
"Saito is right. You shouldn't have continued after 4 hours, but 7 is just breaking the limits. If you keep pushing yourself you could seriously hurt yourself," said Louise.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. Can you and the rest here please leave? You can come back when we announce another healing session," said Agnes as she directed everyone back outside of the tent. The older woman nodded and she, along with everyone else in the line, left to go about their daily lives.
"Here, have some water," said Saito as he handed Gwen a glass of cold water. Gwen nodded and took the cup before she gulped it down in half a second. After her lips left the edge of the glass she breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed.
"Thank you, Saito," said Gwen, a slight red tinge on her cheeks.
"Ah, how has Miss Gwendolyn been doing?" asked Mr. Colbert after walking into the tent.
"She's amazing. She just finished healing people for the last 7 hours," said Louise in praise. Gwen blushed in embarrassment while Mr. Colbert stared in awe.
"That's amazing! What fascinating powers! You must have healed hundreds of people in such a long period of time," said Mr. Colbert. "I think you may be ready for the next step, finally."
Everyone looked at Mr. Colbert with a bit of a confused expression before Louise's eyes opened wide in shock.
"Wait! You can't mean it's time for her to summon her familiar?!" said Louise, shocked by the sudden situation. Mr. Colbert grinned and all of them stared wide-eyed at him.
"C-Can I really summon a familiar? Do you think I'm ready?" asked Gwen, completely shocked.
"Why yes, Miss Gwendolyn. I believe you have reached an adequate level to summon one," said Mr. Colbert, still grinning. A smile stretched across Gwen's face, her exhaustion suddenly gone as she began to bounce up and down in excitement.
"YAY! Saito! Saito! Thank you so much! Now I can summon my own familiar!" shouted Gwen as she leapt up on Saito and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight hug.
Louise pouted at the two and puffed her cheeks in jealousy but didn't do anything because she reacted similarly when they told her it was time to summon her own familiar.
"Alright, let us meet in the courtyard in front of the castle in an hour so that you may rest up," said Mr. Colbert before turning to leave. Everyone left the tent and proceeded to get some food in town because they were all hungry.
One hour later…
"Are you ready, Miss Gwendolyn?" asked Mr. Colbert as everyone stood outside in the courtyard. Currently, Louise, Saito, and Tiffa were standing a short distance away and Henrietta and Agnes stood on the other side, excited to see another familiar be born.
"Yes!" said Gwen, uncharacteristically enthusiastic due to her excitement.
"Then please begin," said Mr. Colbert before stepping back and ushering her to begin. Gwen pulled out her wand and closed her eyes as she focused.
"I, Gwendolyn di Bellerose di Albion, in the name of the great Five Pentagon Powers, following my fate, summon a familiar," chanted Gwen in a hushed and clear voice. A couple seconds passed before a ray of green light came out of the wand and then arced upward, perpendicular to the ground, and formed a green, elliptical portal that was parallel to the ground. Everyone stared at the portal and waited for someone to fall through.
"Mooom!" shouted a familiar silver-haired girl from Tokyo.
"What is it, Asuna?" shouted Asuna's mother back to her.
"What time is dinner? I'm hungry," groaned Asuna, impatient that her food wasn't ready yet.
Asuna's mom came out of the kitchen and into the bright living room holding a ladle and wearing a red and white checkered apron.
"Stop rushing me, young lady. If you want your food faster, I suggest you come and help me in the kitchen," said Asuna's mother, sternly.
"Fineeee…" said Asuna in defeat, pouting slightly. Asuna's mother wore a look of victory and strut back into the kitchen. A few seconds later she could hear her daughter once again. "MOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!"
"What is it now?!" shouted Asuna's mother as she walked into the living room again, annoyed by her daughter's yelling. "ASUNA?!"
Asuna's mother walked in to find her daughter sinking into a green, elliptical portal, and flailing her arms in panic. Asuna's mother froze in shock and dropped her ladle.
"Asuna! What is that?!" shouted Asuna's mother as she ran to the edge to look for a way to save her daughter. Asuna looked at the portal a couple times and after a few seconds, and when she was already waist deep in it, her eyes widened in remembrance.
"Mom! Wait! I think I know what this is. I remember Saito saying that he got sucked into one of these. I might find him on the other side," explained Asuna, still unsure of what she will find. Asuna's mother stared at her daughter in disbelief, panic still in her eyes.
"If I do find Saito, I'll come back as soon as I can so please calm down and wait for me. I love you, Mom," explained Asuna with a smile on her face. Her mother watched her drift deeper into the portal and watched her wave back before she saw the last bits of her daughter disappear into the portal.
"Look! Someone is coming through!" said Louise as they watched what looked like brown designer boots coming through the portal.
A couple seconds later a girl with silvery hair fell out of the portal and hit the ground with a thud. She muttered a quick 'Ow' and rubbed her bottom in pain.
"A-Asuna?!" shouted Saito in complete and utter shock. Before he could run over to her, Mr. Colbert threw an arm out to halt him.
"The ceremony must be continued," said Mr. Colbert, calmly. He nudged his head to notify Gwen that she could move on and Gwen moved over to Asuna who was on the floor continuing to rub her bottom. Gwen knelt before Asuna, who was startled by the new face.
Gwen said a quick hello, to which Asuna could not understand, and continued the ceremony. Apparently, the World Door can translate languages of those spoken on opposite sides of the portal, which is what happened to Siesta and Saito's parents, but Asuna still couldn't understand Halkeginian.
"My name is Gwendolyn di Bellerose di Albion. Pentagon of the Five Elemental Powers; bless this humble being and make her my familiar," said Gwen, calmly. Gwen opened her eyes and hesitated for a moment. Gwen's face relaxed again, still feeling a bit awkward, before she leaned in to kiss Asuna.
Asuna was completely surprised by the sudden kiss, not realizing that, when Saito told her the contract had to be sealed, it had to be done with a kiss, and after Gwen released it she actually remained frozen for a minute. It was only a minute, though, because the rune marking process began quickly.
"AGH!" shouted Asuna in pain as she felt a powerful burning sensation in her right hand. She grasped her wrist and looked at her hand, confused by the sudden burning sensation but quickly remembered what it was from Saito's description.
Saito was finally allowed to run over to Asuna and put a hand on her shoulder and looked at her.
"Saito, it hurts," cried Asuna in pain.
"It will be over in a minute, just wait," said Saito, soothingly, as he gripped her shoulder. Louise had walked over to see how Asuna was doing and just as she arrived, she saw the runes that represented Vindalfr appear on her hand.
Asuna breathed a sigh of relief after the burning sensation disappeared and stared at the strange words on her hand in puzzlement.
"Vindalfr, the right hand of God and the flute of Brimir," breathed Saito after recognizing the runes that were once on the hand of his rival.
"Huh?" said Asuna in a confused state.
"Asuna, meet your master," said Louise, a sly grin on her face before she pointed to Gwen with her face.
"H-Hi," said Gwen, nervously. She had gotten used to her new friends but now another new face was before her.
"Um, master?" said Asuna, still confused by her situation.
"Asuna, you became a familiar like me. Gwen is a Void mage and summoned you. Now you have special powers and have to serve under Gwen," explained Saito, calmly.
"WHAT?! But what about my family and my life in Japan?!" shouted Asuna.
"You can still visit, but the fact that you were called here means you are needed. If you leave after being called we may not make it through the coming storm," explained Saito, coolly. Asuna's face immediately calmed as she took in Saito's calm composition and blushed as perverted thoughts entered her head from past experiences.
"Okay…so…you said something about powers?" said Asuna, a bit sad that she would have to get into some kind of fight in Saito's world.
"Well the last Vindalfr, that's your familiar name, had the power to control any animal. Louise and I also read a book that said that you would be able to use the powers of animals like enhanced eyesight and hearing and stuff. Other than that I'm not too sure," explained Saito, feeling bad that he didn't have more information for her.
"We can have Julio come down and meet with Asuna to see if he can help," said Henrietta as she walked over to the small group, reminding them of her presence.
"That would be a great idea, Princess!" said Louise, enthusiastically.
"Wait, wait, wait! You said control animals?! Does that mean I can communicate with them too?!" asked Asuna, suddenly excited by the situation.
"Uh…I'm assuming, yes," said Saito, a bit surprised by her sudden enthusiasm.
Asuna immediately looked around and then up before whistling, loudly. A few seconds later a small blue jay flew down and landed on Asuna's arm.
Asuna began to whisper to the jay and the bird tweeted back to her.
"OH MY GOSH THIS IS AWESOME!" said Asuna, excitedly, after releasing the bird. "I've always wanted to talk with the animals in my shelter!"
"Shelter?" asked Louise in a confused tone.
"Yeah, Asuna's mom's side of her family has been running a shelter, a place where lost and abused pets go to be taken care of until a new owner can be found, since her great-great-grandmother. Her family has always been good with animals so it's pretty ironic that Asuna became Vindalfr," said Saito, chuckling a bit at the last part. Louise mouthed and an 'Oh' and Asuna continued to flutter about talking to a squirrel in a nearby tree, a couple more birds, and even some large insects.
"THIS IS AWESOME!" shouted Asuna again.
So? Asuna a familiar! Hell yeah!
I have been wanting to make her a familiar ever since I made Gwen and i tried to not give any prior hints as hope that I could shock you guys.
Also please Review because I feel like Vindalfr doesn't have as many powers as they could. Do you guys mind giving me some ideas?
Anyways, until next time...byeeee :D
