Hey guys, MT here!
I'm sorry but this chapter's going to be a bit short. I've been a bit sick (hey just like Saito) and couldn't write as much as I would have liked.
Also, I'm kind of surprised Saito's sickness was a surprise considering the next thing I did but I guess that isn't really a big factor. I'm pretty finicky about that so I would be like 'Oh no! He's sick'.
Anyways, I ramble, ENJOY!
Chapter 48
"SAITO!" shouted Louise, extremely worried by Saito's conditions. "What's wrong with him? What did you do to him?"
"I didn't do anything! What could I have possibly done to make him like this?" shouted Asuna, annoyed. She began to sniff Saito, causing Louise become more annoyed and Asuna growled at her, silencing her, before continuing. "He's got something. I've never smelled something like this so it isn't a simple cold."
"Siesta, go and get Gwen. Maybe she can help," ordered Louise, causing Siesta to nod before running out of the room. A few minutes later she came in with a half drowsy Gwen. When Gwen saw Saito, her eyes widened and she perked up immediately.
"Saito-san?!" shouted Gwen before rushing to his side. She ran to his side, pulling out her wand, and immediately began to chant her healing spell. The spell released a golden light that encompassed Saito and she began to try and heal him, her face contorting in confusion and then understanding in a few moments. "I can't heal him."
"What? Why not?" shouted Louise, confused.
"When I heal someone, my magic usually lets me see what's wrong with them. I can even heal minor sicknesses. I can't, however, deal with complex diseases. Whatever Saito-san has, we need to get him to a specialist immediately," explained Gwen, seriously. Asuna perked up and she leapt from the bed and began to put on her clothes.
"Louise, help me start to dress Saito. We're taking him to Japan," said Asuna, causing Louise to pout but follow her orders.
After dressing Saito, Louise opened a world door and Asuna, Gwen, and Siesta helped carry Saito onto his lawn. His parents had come out moments later and called an ambulance to pick him up to take him to the hospital.
Louise, Asuna, and Gwen were sitting in the ambulance, next to Saito, and they watched him, worriedly, as the paramedics checked him over.
They arrived at the hospital after only a few minutes and Saito was immediately rushed into the room.
"Please, girls, wait here. You can't enter while the doctor is working," explained the nurse, infuriating Louise.
"I'm his wife! I demand that you let me stay with him," shouted Louise, annoyed.
"Miss, you can't go in because it may distract the doctor. Please be patient," said the nurse, trying to calm Louise down. Louise growled and her and turned from away from the nurse before running away, Gwen and Asuna glancing at each other before following her. They went into a less populated area of the hospital and Louise quickly chanted open a World Door, revealing a startled doctor and a different nurse than the one from before.
"Saito!" shouted Louise as she ran into the room, followed by Gwen and Asuna.
"H-How did you…?!" said the doctor, obviously startled by what had just occurred.
"We will explain later, sir. Can you please tell us what is wrong with Saito-san?" asked Gwen, seriously. The doctor saw the worry in the girls' eyes and sighed before turning to Saito.
"We were just about to examine him. Since you're here, can you please list the symptoms you have noticed over the last few days? Anything strange," said the doctor.
"Well, there wasn't anything very noticeable until this morning when he had a high fever, was sweating, and breathing hard," said Asuna, counting each off on her fingers.
"Don't forget the rashes, Asuna-nee," said Gwen, glancing at her sister and then the doctor.
"Fever, sweating, possible difficulty breathing, and rashes…anything else?" asked the doctor as he checked Saito. The nurse brought over a thermometer and began to check Saito's temperature as the girls thought of anything else.
"Ah! For the last couple of days Saito was having some pain in his neck. He said it he might have just slept wrong but I wasn't sure if that was it," said Louise, drifting off in thought.
"What? Neck pain?" repeated the doctor. He moved to Saito's neck, massaging it, and frowning when he felt how tense the muscles were. "He may have a case of meningitis. This could be very dangerous. What is his temperature?"
"It's 105, doctor. We need to get his temperature down," said the nurse before rushing over to a large metal bin. Above it was a large ice dispenser and she hit the button to begin filling it before helping the doctor bring Saito to it. They put him in it and the ice flowed over him, encasing him in ice.
"W-What can we do for Saito-san?" asked Gwen, worried.
"You said that it's only been a couple days but meningitis usually becomes apparent over the course of 2 weeks or more. This could be a more advanced form. Also, has he done anything that could have strained his health?" asked the doctor.
"Well, yesterday was Saito's birthday and he drank a lot," said Louise before turning to glare at Asuna. "And then this harlot slept with him while he was drunk. I still can't believe Saito conceded even if he was drunk."
"A high fever, as well as meningitis in general, affecting your decision making. He may have been delirious for all we know. The alcohol could have weakened him to the disease so it affected him more as well as the intercourse. Your body generally ignores the symptoms of your sickness in order to successfully perform intercourse so that probably instigated the sudden fever. We will be able to treat him but it's a good thing you got him to us when you did. His life could have been in danger otherwise," explained the doctor, causing everyone to sigh in relief. The doctor waved the girls out, Gwen asking to stay so she could observe Saito's treatment under the pretense that she is studying medicine and was interested in the process.
Louise and Asuna found Saito's parents and Siesta sitting in the waiting room, worried expressions on their faces.
Louise ran over to begin explaining everything to them and Asuna used that chance to slip away, transforming into a cat as she did so.
Some hours later, the doctor and Gwen came out to beckon everyone to follow him to Saito's room.
As they walked, the doctor and Gwen's silence made everyone a bit antsy but as anxiety was washed away when they found Saito sleeping peacefully in a hospital bed.
"We gave him quite a few injections to help get rid of the disease. This girl also used some kind of magic to heal his fatigue and such. I don't really understand it but he recovered very quickly because of it.
"So he's going to make a full recovery?" asked Aki, her eyes a bit puffy as she had been crying earlier that day. The doctor smiled and nodded and she sighed in relief as she leaned into Kurata for support. The doctor left the group to themselves and silence remained as Louise sat next to Saito, caressing his cheek, lovingly.
"Um…where is Asuna-nee? Didn't she stay with you?" asked Gwen, wondering where her sister was now that the situation had calmed down.
"I saw her disappear while Louise was explaining what happened to Saito. I'm assuming she went home since that was the only place she could really go," said Kurata.
"We should go make sure she's okay after Saito-san wakes up. Before we move him back home, of course," said Gwen, a bit worried for her familiar. Everyone nodded and they relaxed around the room, waiting for Saito to awaken.
So? What did you guys think?
For any of you who looked up neck problem symptoms, you would have found out about the meningitis. Otherwise, surprise surprise! xD
Anyways, now Asuna is reacting and I think you all know how she's going to react, otherwise, I will be getting back to the main events soon! Gotta continue into the current segment.
Until next time...byeee :D
