Chapter 50

Two days later…

"How do you feel, Saito-san?" asked Gwen after another of her healing sessions.

"Great, Gwen. Thanks so much. Your spells really help to take away the fatigue. I think I might even be able to go home tomorrow," said Saito, happily, smiling brightly at Gwen. She blushed at how cute she thought he looked while he smiled at her and she backed up behind Louise who had just entered.

"Louise, did you talk to Asuna?" asked Saito, worriedly. Said girl crossed her arms and 'Hmph'ed.

"She didn't want to talk and I wasn't going to force her," said Louise, annoyed, before muttering 'Stupid harlot' under her breath.

"Louise…" said Saito, sternly.

"Well what do you expect me to do? Sure, I feel bad for her with how she reacted and all but she still slept with you Saito. She slept with my husband. You should understand while I'm not in a rush to reconcile," said Louise, sourly. Saito sighed, knowing that she has every right to be annoyed.

Once Gwen had brought Asuna home, and her mother forced some food into her, Louise and Gwen had gone over to check up on Asuna at random intervals. Whenever Louise was over she was supposed to be reconciling with Asuna but neither tried to start a conversation and Louise just ended up coming back with a sour expression.

"Well, either ways we have to do something about your relationship with Asuna," said Saito before the room was silent. After a moment, just when Louise was going to say something, a loud beeping rang in the room and everyone looked around before Saito realized what it was. He turned to the nightstand and picked up the trans-dimensional emergency alert device, or T-DEAD for short, and he turned it off.

"What could be happening in Halkeginia?" asked Gwen, worried. Saito looked over at Louise and she sighed.

"Saito, you still can't fight because you're recovering. You should stay here and rest and I'll go with Gwen. Saito gave her a hard look and she smiled and rolled her eyes. "You're so stubborn, you know that?"

"How do you think I made you fall in love with me?" retorted Saito, slyly, while wiggling his eyebrows. Louise rolled her eyes again and she turned to open a World Door while Gwen helped Saito into his wheelchair. "Gwen, I think you should stay here to keep an eye on Asuna. I don't trust her staying put while we're gone."

Gwen nodded and stepped back from the wheelchair as Saito rolled himself forward. Louise walked through the World Door and waited for him on the other side before he rolled into it. Both waved at Gwen before the door closed with a 'pop'.

Louise had brought them to Henrietta's castle in Tristain and they were on their way to her office. They had to get some help along the way, since Saito can't really go up stairs in a wheelchair, but they finally made it.

Louise knocked on the door to Henrietta's office and a 'Come in' could be heard not long after. The two entered the room and Louise closed it behind them.

"Ah, Louise, Saito-dono! Thank you so much for coming," said Henrietta as she got up from her desk. Louise and Saito moved towards her desk and stopped in front of it. "I'm very sorry for bringing you back here while you were recovering Saito-dono but there's been an incident."

"What kind incident could have happened, Princess-sama?" asked Louise, wondering what could have happened in the relatively peaceful times that have been going on since the war had ended.

"Well, there have been several incidents, however we were investigating who the culprits were and another incident occurred that finally shed light on who was doing it," said Henrietta, seriously. Saito could see the seriousness in her eyes and he stared at her with a fierce expression.

"What's been going on, Henrietta?" asked Saito, seriously. Louise was surprised that Saito used Henrietta's name when he usually said 'Your Majesty' or something similar.

"Four cities have been burned to the ground and everything that was alive in the towns were slaughtered. Men, women, children, animals, dragons, even pixies and gnomes. The cities were from Germania, Tristain, Elvenheim, and Freiheitus and all along the northern border. Another city was just attacked, this time in Albion, and the culprits have finally been revealed," said Henrietta, her expression now grim.

"Who is it, Princess-sama?" asked Louise, worried by Henrietta's expression.

"The Dwarven kingdom, Lukamagiska, has declared war on every magical being in the world," said Henrietta, causing Louise and Saito's eyes to widen in shock. "They made it very clear when they took the heads of an elf, Valkyrie, gnome, human, and dragon and impaled them on stakes in front of the entrance to the town they burned down. They also created an enormous sign, written in blood, that said 'Death to All Magic'."

Louise and Saito merely stared in shock for a few minutes until Saito managed to regain his composure.

"Louise, call Gwen and Asuna back here and take them to Albion. They should be there for the people of Albion," said Saito, sternly. Louise glanced at him and saw the extremely serious look in his eyes before leaving to follow his orders. When the World Door closed, Saito leaned forward and leaned his chin into his hands while he thought.

"What are you thinking about, Saito-dono?" asked Henrietta, curious but worried.

"They're about to commit genocide," said Saito, catching Henrietta's attention. Saito stopped to think about something and then he looked up at her. "All cities along the northern border should be evacuated and a defensive line should be made along the northern borders. We need to create an information network. We don't know how they've been attacking us so we need to find out what weapons they're using to attack us with."

Henrietta looked at Saito, stunned that he was so calmly dealing with the situation. She blushed a bit, thinking about how cool she thought he was and walked around her desk.

"Get some rest, Saito-dono. We're going to take care of everything until you're well," said Henrietta, simply. Saito grinned at her and nodded before rolling himself out of her office. Henrietta sighed when the door closed at smiled in the direction of the door. "Every time I see him he makes me more and more jealous of Louise."

Saito met up with Louise a little while afterward and she said that Asuna perked up when she heard that Albion had been attacked. She and Gwen ran off to meet with King Harold right after Louise dropped them there and Louise took Saito back to their home in Des Ornières.

"Saito-san~!" shouted Siesta as she ran down the slight incline to Saito and Louise. Louise was pushing Saito up the incline, and struggling, so Siesta had decided to help. "Please allow me, Louise. How are you feeling, Saito-san?"

"I'm fine, Siesta. There are some things going on but it's relatively okay right now. By the way, how is Tenshi? I hope she hasn't been dealing with too much while here," said Saito, worried Tenshi may have been over training.

"She's been okay. She mostly practices by helping me clean. It's quite effective to move at super speed. We've cleaned the entire house 3 times, both inside and out," said Siesta, causing Saito to roll his eyes and smile. Tenshi must have felt a little useless being stuck at home while I was sick, thought Saito.

As they moved towards the house, they heard a small explosion come from behind the house and saw gray smoke puffing up into the sky. The three looked at each other and Siesta pushed Saito, quickly, while Louise ran beside them, wand ready. They ran through the house and out the back door to find Tenshi fighting something akin to a metal golem.

"Tenshi! Are you alright?!" shouted Saito, shocked to find such a thing at his home.

"Y-Yes, S-Saito-sama! I-I'm s-sorry, though, t-t-the house!" shouted Tenshi before pointing at the mansion. There was a large hole in the back of the house with small flames burning around the edges. Louise quickly moved to put it out with water magic and Siesta rolled Saito to the edge of the porch nearby Tenshi.

"Who are you?!" shouted Saito at the metal golem-like being. A moment passed where everyone was a standstill, except for Louise who had finished putting out the flames and took her place next to Saito. Finally, a blast of steam blew off the center part of the golem and a very large round hatch plate popped off. It then rotated downward, revealing a small person inside the golem. Around him were all sorts of pressure gauges and handles and behind him were some air vents, probably to let free air enter the compartment.

"Hello there, stupid magic users! I've been waitin' for the master to arrive since I heard you were back in Tristain!" shouted the little man. Saito glared at him and he grinned, showing his hideous teeth which were brown and rotting away. "You're the great hero everybody's been talkin' about who led two wars and so I was sent to take you out. After all, you're the greatest threat to our victory!"

"So you're one of the Dwarves? Why do you want to start a war? Why do you hate magical beings?!" shouted Saito, annoyed. The Dwarf grinned at him again.

"Well, isn't it obvious? You stupid magic users think you're sooo good with all your magic and shit but in the end of the day you're just pampered nobles. We Dwarves are tough and strong and we're going to wipe out the weak little magic users. And we're gonna start with you!" shouted the Dwarf before pulling a handle. The hatch closed and steam blew out a pipe on the back of the golem.

The golem bent into a running position and ran at them, prepared to attack. Just before reaching them, Louise chanted an earth spell, causing a wall of rock to blast up in front of the golem. It was thick enough that the golem bounced off of it and fell to the ground.

"Siesta! Get me Vivlio!" shouted Saito. Siesta nodded and ran inside. Louise dropped the rock wall and they could see the golem rising to its feet.

"Tenshi, you learned that water spell I taught you, right?" asked Louise as she prepared a spell. Tenshi nodded and began to prepare her own spell. "One!"

"T-Two!" shouted Tenshi.

"Three!" shouted Louise.

"WATER PISTOL!" shouted Louise and Tenshi in unison. They pointed their wands out at the golem and two blobs of water, about the size of a person's head, shot off at high speed and smashed into the golem. The golem was thrown back and smashed into the ground before skidding a couple of feet. There were two large dents in the metal and Tenshi and Louise eyed the golem, suspiciously.

"Saito-san! I brought Vivlio-san!" shouted Siesta as she ran out of the house. Saito quickly took Vivlio from her and, before Vivlio could greet him, Saito activated his Myoznitnirn powers. The pages flew past at break neck speed and stopped on a random blank page. There was an enormous sniper rifle that was suddenly drawn on the page and the lines began to glow before the sniper materialized on top of Vivlio. Saito picked up the sniper and handed Vivlio off to Siesta.

The sniper looked like any average sniper but it did have a golden crystal ball on the back end with swirling energy inside. Saito's Gandalfr runes then began to glow as Saito aimed at the golem.

The golem finally recovered from the attacks of Louise and Tenshi and began to get up again. Saito watched it, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, but stopped when he saw it doing something strange. It moved a hand to one of its arms and hit it, causing a metal plate to slid back, revealing a compartment. It pulled something out of the compartment and used its other hand to snap something off of it. Saito immediately realized what it was and the golem threw it at them.

"Get down!" shouted Saito before shooting at the round object. He hit it just as it reach midway between he and the golem and it exploded. "Dammnit! They have grenades?!"

The golem used the smoke as cover from the explosion and rushed at them, startling Louise and the other girls. Saito pointed the sniper right at its chest and his Myoznitnirn runes glowed. The energy in the crystal ball began to spin, quickly, and Saito pressed the trigger just as the golem was going to reach them. The light in the ball drained out and magic was visibly sucked into barrel of the sniper. A yellow shot blasted out of the barrel and flew at the golem before piercing right through the hatch. The golem was knocked backwards from the force and fell to the ground. There was a pause and everyone could hear a rumbling. A glowing light shined through the hole in the hatch and there was a small explosion which blew off the hatch.

"W-Wow," said Tenshi, surprised that Saito defeated it so easily. Saito sighed in relief before setting down the sniper rifle on his lab. He leaned back in his wheelchair and closed his eyes as he relaxed.

"Saito, I'm going to send a message to Princess-sama about the incident," said Louise. Saito cracked his eyes open, about to look at her, but was frozen but what he saw. Louise noticed how he widened his eyes and she followed his gaze before her own eyes widened and she dropped her wand. Tenshi and Siesta's eyes followed and everyone was staring up at the sky with horrified expressions.

"There's just no way," said Saito, breaking the silence.

Above them, maybe a mile in the air, was zeppelin. And not just any zeppelin, one of such a large magnitude that they feared it would completely crush the Des Ornières mansion should it land on it.

Tenshi looked at Siesta who had just fallen to her knees, a horrified expression on her face. She turned when she heard Louise fall to her knees as well, her expression unreadable. Saito just continued to stare upward at the zeppelin, his eyes wide.

She looked up at the zeppelin again and saw a large hatch opening on the bottom of it and a large ball was coming out of it.

"S-Saito-sama? W-What is that?" asked Tenshi, worried by the answer.

"It's a bomb," said Saito, bluntly. Tenshi tensed and looked back up at the bomb. "Tenshi, I'm so sorry that we couldn't protect you."

"S-Saito-sama?" squeaked Tenshi as she looked at him. Tears were in Saito's eyes as he looked at the bomb.

"That thing will probably take out everything within a mile radius. I feel so sad that I can't protect the citizens from such a power attack," said Saito, sadly. Tenshi's eyes widened when she realized what was about to happen. She looked back up at the bomb and watched as it was finally released from the zeppelin and began to fall down. It may be the end…of Des Ornières.

So? What did you guys think?

The Dwarves strike first! Is our hero's home gone along with the rest of them?

Who knows? I'm not going to tell you! :3

I would love to hear your thoughts on this chapter and how you think everyone will get out of this predicament!
