Disclaimer: Saban owns power rangers...not me :(
Bug813 asked for there to be some Trent/Kira action in this chapter so I'm definitely going to try to work that in here!
Thank you all so much for the reviews and I'm so glad you are enjoying this story! Keep them coming and I'll keep the chapters coming!
Chapter 3-
Tommy looked through another stack of notes he took out of the black lock box he, at one point, hoped he'd never have to go through again. It's not that he wasn't proud of the work he did for those years on the island with his partner Anton Mercer, but the result of the explosion, Mesagog, was something he didn't exactly like reliving.
"This is all my research on Mesagog's development. I took notes for Anton and he asked me to keep them for safe keeping. The white dino gem's stuff is probably on the bottom."
He and Billy started taking larger binders out of the box, looking for the right one. Billy discretely took the binders of research on Mesagog and moved them over to the desk in the corner Hayley told him he could use as long as he's here. He'd definitely be going through those later.
"It should be in this one," Tommy whispered to himself as he opened one of the thinner binders on the bottom and started scanning its contents. Tommy not be as fast of a reader as Billy and Hayley, but he wrote the thing dammit! He shouldn't have to read the stupid thing thoroughly to find the information he's looking for. He should know this!
Tommy knew beating himself up about the whole situation wasn't going to help his son. But for god's sake he couldn't get his head to think correctly! The white dino gem. He distinctly remembered the research he did on it's evil transformation with Anton, but for the life of him, he couldn't think of how to negate the evil affects!
It was in one of these freaking notebooks and he couldn't find it!
Beep Beep Beep!
He looked towards the control center as Billy ran over to it and started typing on the keyboard. A few seconds later, a view of the white ranger's current location came up on the screen. He was morphed and bent over on his knees in an alley, gripping his chest as if he was in pain. After a few seconds, he would flicker between being morphed and being in human form. When they would see his face, it was scrunched up in pain, and fear was in his eyes.
"What's happening?" Kim asked as she ran down the stairs when she heard the alarm go off.
"I think Trent is fighting the gems power," Billy said as he typed into the computer. "I can't get an energy reading on him like I could have in the command center. There's nothing I can do to help him."
They heard three voices shout "Power down!" before Conner, Ethan and Kira were kneeling next to Trent, not touching him, but calling out to him, letting him know they were there.
"Trent you can fight it!" Ethan called out.
"We're all right here for you!" Kira said, inching a little towards him before moving back when he morphed back into the white ranger and jerked onto his back.
"Dude! I know you're still in there!" Conner encouraged. "You can beat this! You're Doctor O's son for god's sake! You can do anything!"
"Conner! Shut up! You don't want him to loose his focus!" Billy called into the communicator. God sometimes the red ranger didn't think.
Trent looked up at Conner, thinking he misunderstood what Conner said. But loosing his focus for that brief moment allowed the evil white ranger to take over his body again. He pushed the three of them away from him and took out his drago dagger, moving it around in a swirling pattern and making gold arrows appear before sending them flying at the unmorphed dino rangers.
"Don't even think about using his family against him rangers," the evil white ranger said as he put the dagger back in his sheath. "His father is already on my side, and soon he will be too."
With that, the white ranger turned and began to walk away.
"Guys!" Billy called into their communicators. "Take your lasers and shoot right under his armor on his left side by his armpit. You only get one shot!"
Being the best shot, Ethan took out his laser and carefully aimed at the retreating white ranger. His target was getting further and further away so he aimed as quickly as he could and shot. When the laser hit it's target, the white ranger crumpled to the ground and demorphed, leaving behind an unconscious Trent.
"Do you guys have a way to bring him back to the lab?" Billy asked.
"My car is about two blocks from here," Conner said. He turned around quickly and started running down the street to get his car. Ethan and Kira ran over to Trent and bent down next to him, rolling him onto his back.
Ethan took Trent's left wrist and took his dino gem off before wrapping it in his overshirt and putting it in his back pocket. The last thing they needed was for this temporary stun to wear off.
"How'd you know to do that?" Kim asked as her and Tommy looked on at the scene through the monitor. Billy picked up one side of the binder Tommy had been going through earlier and then pointed to a diagram he had been looking at.
"Page nineteen tells the white rangers weak spots when morphed." With that he went back to reading the binder.
"And you didn't remember that handsome?" Kim asked.
"Do you realize when was the last time I went through those binders? About five years ago and never looked back, hoping I wasn't ever going to have to speak of dino gems again. There's a lot in there that I don't remember writing."
"Like how to negate the affects of the white dino gem?" Billy asked, looking up from the middle of the binder, smirking at what he was reading.
"Are you serious?" Tommy ran over to read the page Billy was on.
"What do we have to do?" Hayley and Kim asked at the same time. Hayley came into the room, setting up the cot to set Trent on and hearing the last of the conversation.
"According to this, we have to have a more powerful dino gem fight the white dino gem for the bond with Trent's DNA."
"Another dino gem?" Hayley asked as Billy started typing into the computer. The two females looked at Tommy and he held his hands up in surrender when he saw the looks on their faces.
"I swear guys, I had no idea."
"You wouldn't've Tommy," Billy said when he looked back. He figured the least he could do was help his friend out of the deep water he seemed to keep drowning in. "The final gem still isn't activated. Hopefully that means we can use it to negate Trent's effects, but I'm still trying to locate it. I'm getting occasional readings down by Reefside's beach front, which tells me there is something made from the same mineral components as the dino gems."
"Which side of the beachfront?" Hayley asked as she put her arms around her boyfriend's shoulders from behind.
"East side."
"Oh god."
Everyone turned towards Kim.
"What's there Kim?"
"That's where we broke the sword of darkness."
Everyone was silent.
"Anyone else feel like we're in the middle of a really bad horror movie full of flashback cliches?" Hayley asked.
Everyone nodded and then burst out laughing.
"Dr O! We got a problem!" Ethan's voice rang through the lair.
"Ethan what's going on?"
"It didn't work! Trent woke up but he wasn't Trent!"
"Where is he?"
"Gone!" Conner shouted into Ethan's morpher, completely out of breath. "He ran away with Kira!"
All four of the adults went pale.
"You had to say it, didn't you babe?"
~~~~~~With Trent and Kira~~~~~~~~~~
When Kira first came to, the first thing that came to her was that her head was killing her. She winced and put her hand up to her head and felt the blood coming from a cut at her hairline. "That's definitely not good," she said to herself.
She heard a groan come from her right and quickly sat up. Leaning down in a crunched down position holding his head was Trent.
"Trent!" She jumped off the rock she was using as a bed and wrapped her arms around him. Trent sat up slowly and looked up at her.
"Kira you have to get out of here!" His voice was barely above a whisper, as if it would physically hurt him to talk any louder.
"What? Trent I'm not leaving you here! We can help you!"
"No you can't! The gems already bonded with my DNA and pretty soon the evil side will completely take over just like he said."
"Like who said?"
"Mesagog."
"Trent, Mesagog doesn't know everything. Trust me and come see Dr. O. He's trying to find a way to let you have complete control and get rid of the evil in the gem."
"It won't work Kira." He sounded defeated. "The gem is not even with me right now and I can feel the evil trying to take over. You need to get out of here before it does. I don't want anything to happen to you."
"Nothing will Trent. Like I said I'm not leaving you here."
"Kira go!"
"NO!"
Trent ducked his head down and screamed in agony. He began jerking, and Kira lost her grip on him. She got knocked a few feet away from him and shakily asked him if he was alright. He stopped jerking and looked over at her slowly.
"I'm fine yellow ranger... but you won't be."
~~~~~~Back in the Lab~~~~~~
Hayley and Billy both sat at the super computer in the lab, completely oblivious to anything happening around them. Their fingers were moving faster than anyone could keep up with, entering data to help them find Kira and Trent's location.
"This is ridiculous! It's never been this hard to locate the kids!" Hayley exclaimed as a "no signal" alert showed up on her screen again.
"It's probably just satellite interference," Billy reassured her. "The clouds are overcast today, probably blocking the signal. Just keep trying, hopefully the sky will clear up soon."
Hayley shook her head in frustration and typed more into the computer before linking to the communicators to contact Tommy and Kim.
"You guys there yet?"
"Yeah," Tommy answered. Him and Kim had just parked the jeep at the beachfront where they destroyed the sword of darkness and started heading down the beach towards the caves. They both looked around, remembering what had taken place only 15 years ago on this very beach.
"There it is," Kim said pointing to a small entrance to the cave about half a football field in front of them. They both ran the rest of the way until Kim put her hand up, stopping Tommy in his tracks.
"I'll go in alone."
"Kim that's not funny."
"I know it's not. But this is a powerful gem. We can't take the chance that it's going to negate your gems affects and bond with you."
"Well how do you know it's not meant for you?"
She held up her wrist, encased in a thick black bangle.
"Billy gave this to me. It will continually put out some kind of frequency so the gem can't combine with my DNA. But your gem will come in contact with the gem and it will immediately try to take you. We need this for Trent."
"Kim I don't think this is a good idea. You don't know what will happen."
"I'm his mother Tommy," she choked up, her eyes watering. "After everything that's happened it's the least I can do."
Tommy wanted to argue, but he had to agree with her. He hugged her tight and kissed her lips before watching her disappear into the cave.
Not wanting to stand around twiddling his thumbs, Tommy started to patrol the beach area around the cave. Knowing Mesagog, this would be a good time to send down a monster.
He kept looking back at the cave Kim disappeared into, but arrived almost across the beach to the other side that had more caves. He was about to turn around and head back towards Kim when she heard a faint scream coming from the caves. He turned around and listened intently over the sound of the ocean.
"Trent please don't do this!"
Tommy ran up the rock formation, looking all over for the entrance. Finally he found it and ran in, blinking his eyes so they would adjust to the light. Once his vision cleared, his eyes got wide and he ran forward, his heart beating frantically.
"TRENT STOP!"
