Chapter 6
The first thing Trent felt when he first woke up was relief. He wasn't fighting an unknown demon for control of his body. Slowly he opened his eyes and sat up, feeling better than he had in months!
He looked around the room, not knowing where he was. The room had a twin bed he was currently lying on, a simple dresser and desk, but nothing on the walls. Nothing at all looked familiar to him.
He sat up, momentarily dizzy from moving to fast and tried to stand up. Once his vision cleared, he cautiously used the walls to steady himself and begin to walk out of the room and down the hall.
Part of him wished that this was all a dream. That he wasn't in some weird house he had never seen before, but home where he knew where he was allowed to be and ask of the secret hiding places to stay away from Anton.
Anton Mercer had once been a loving father. But something had happened that turned him into this violent, abusive man who only wanted Trent around when he needed release. Sometimes Trent wondered why he even adopted him if he was just gong to hate having him around once the paperwork went through. Until those papers were signed, he treated Trent like he was his own.
As he walked down the hall, thinking about what his father would say to him when he got home, he began to notice pictures on the walls. They were all of Dr. Oliver and who he assumed was his wife…
Was he in Dr. Oliver's house?
He began to hear someone coming up the stairs and almost bolted back into the room he woke up in. Dread began to creep its way up his body before he saw Ethan come into view.
"Hey Trent! You're awake!" Ethan was his normal cheerful self until he saw the look on Trent's face. "Hey man, you're turning grey, are you alright?"
Trent didn't know what to say. He was glad to see Ethan. He was a really good friend when Trent wasn't acting all crazy and he was also one who didn't ask questions when he was having problems with Anton, just offered for him to sleep over his house and play video games all night.
"Trent, man come back to me," Ethan said as he put his hands on Trent's shoulder to get his attention.
"Where am I?" Trent asked shakily. Anxiety was starting to build up again in his body and he could feel his body begin to shake.
"DR. O!" Ethan shouted down the stairs.
Trent leaned heavily on Ethan when his legs began to give out and heard someone else running up the stairs. Tommy came into view with the woman who was in a lot of pictures on the wall with him.
"Trent?" Tommy called his name, but Trent didn't respond. He was getting dizzier by the second and his vision was starting to go dark.
"Ethan, get me a water bottle, Kim, get him something to eat please?" Tommy lifted Trent into his arms and headed back to his room. Once Trent was laying down on the bed, he was starting to feel a little bit better.
"Dr. Oliver, what am i doing here?"
"Just try to relax for right now Trent. That's a really really long story."
"But sir, I have to get home before my dad gets home!" Dad's attitude about where Trent was and what he was doing and how long he spent outside the house was starting to be crazy. HIs side was still hurting from when he helped Hayley a little bit extra at the Cyberspace last week and dad wasn't to happy.
"Trent, listen to me, you're injured, you're shaking, dehydrated and probably haven't had a decent meal in a while considering how loose your pants are right now. I think your dad will understand. I'll call him and let him know you're staying here."
"No! Dr. Oliver you can't let him know!" Trent was scared. HIs dad hasn't been normal in a while, but whenever Dr. Oliver was brought up, he would get really angry, which never went well for Trent.
"Trent," Tommy was whispering because he was really hoping he was reading these signs wrong. "What's your dad do?"
Trent was silent. He didn't want to go back into foster care and he didn't want to go back to Anton, but which was the less of the two evils? "Nothing… he doesn't do anything. He's just… wants whats best for me and wants me to get into college. He'll be worried that i've been here all night."
"Trent, you know you can tell me anything," Tommy whispered to him. He was trying to control his anger, not wanting to believe his long-time friend and colleague would have abused his son.
"Dr. Oliver please just let me go home," Trent begged. He didn't want to have this conversation.
Ethan came in at this point with a water bottle and quickly handed it to Trent. "Kim's making you a sandwich. I told her turkey was your favorite."
Trent nodded his head and took a sip of the water, trying to avoid eye contact with either of them.
"Trent, i dont think its a good idea for you to go home right now," Tommy said. He didn't really know how to convince him to stay without just outright saying he couldn't go.
"Wait, you're trying to go home?" Ethan commented as he was about to leave the room. "Trent you can't be serious after what happened last week?"
Trent gave Ethan a hard glare, trying to get him to drop the subject, but Tommy wasn't about to let him.
"What happened last week?"
"I'm not 100% sure, but by the look of Trent's side I would say he got thrown into a wall while not in his suit!"
"That was a Tyrannodrone," Trent immediately said. He tried to move out of the way as Tommy moved his shirt out of the way and saw the bruise and wound on his side. There was dry blood going down in a large scratch and the wound looked a little infected.
"Ethan go get Kim and tell her we need her up here. Also tell her to get a first aid kit."
Ethan left right away as Tommy held Trent down on the bed. The young man was trying to get up and run away. "Dr. Oliver please! I have to go home!"
"Trent i need you to listen to me! You're not going back to Anton! Not if he does that to you!"
"I told you it was a tyrannodrone!"
"Are you kidding me Trent? I've been a ranger for a decade! The power inside the suit protects us from impact so we don't bruise! Trent please! I'm trying to protect you!"
"Why do you care?"
Trent's voice was whispering and his eyes held pain. It broke Tommy's heart, he couldn't wait for Kim any longer.
"Because I'm your father."
Trent's heart skipped a beat. Then one, two, three, four beats later he took a deep breath and was frozen in place. Tommy didn't have to hold him in bed anymore.
"What?" he whispered.
"Trent, I'm your father."
"I don't understand."
"Trent…"
Kim's voice startled both father and son. She was standing in the doorway with tears in her eyes, sandwich in one hand and first aid kit in the other. "Please let me explain."
Trent moved away from Tommy but stayed on the bed,
"Trent, we are your biological parents. When I was pregnant with you, your father and i were in high school. Your father and I were also rangers. Believe it or not, Tommy and you were a lot more alike than you think.
Tommy's powers were given to him by an evil sorceress, who had him under a spell of mind control. He…"
"Kim, please."
Kim nodded and let Tommy finish.
"I just found out recently, that while I was under Rita's spell, I raped your mother Trent, and unfortunately that's how you were created."
Trent was silent, trying to process what he was just told.
"I don't know what to say… "
Kim took over the conversation again.
"I was 15 Trent, and i knew the Fernandez's through a family friend. I knew they had been trying to have a child for almost ten years, and no matter how you came into this world, I wanted you to be a part of it. They both agreed for it to be an open adoption, so I got pictures of you every year for your birthday and christmas, and that was the thing i looked forward to all year."
All three of them had tears in their eyes at this point.
"When your parents died and the pictures stopped coming, i didn't know who to contact to find out why, and frankly I didn't think I had a right to demand more photos. I still have every single one of them, they were the only way I got to see you."
"When Kim had told me," Tommy started, I was so angry with myself. I couldn't believe that I could do that to the love of my life, but we got you out of it. If you want Trent, you will always have a home here."
"I wouldn't have to go back to Anton?" Trent asked.
"Not if you don't want to. We will take him to court if we have to."
Trent smiled. Happy to have a real family once again. "I want to stay with you."
Tommy and Kim were ecstatic. They immediately hugged before Trent winced from the pressure on his side and Tommy remembered what Anton did.
"Let's get this cleaned up and then have something to eat. We have a lot to talk about."
As Tommy took the first aid kit off the floor and lifted up Trent's shirt, Kim blew up.
"WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY SON!"
