Chapter 79: Dissidence

"Stop telling me what to do, Leo!" Raph yelled.

Leo sighed and tried his best to be patient. "Raph, your form is all wrong and you need to fix it," he answered.

"Oh, of course it's not! I just can't hold a candle to the perfect Leonardo, can I? Well, I'm sorry if my form isn't perfect enough for you, Fearless! Deal with it!"

Leo was getting angrier by the minute. "As your Sensei, I demand that you apologize for your tone! I am merely critiquing your form. Now, do the move again just as I showed you."

"You know, I think you've gotten worse at this whole thing," Raph said. "You just keep thinking you're so much better than we are when you're not!"

"I'm trying to do what Splinter asked me to do!" Leo snapped.

"You're not Splinter and you never will be!" Raph snarled.

Leo hesitated at his brother's words, the pain in his eyes obvious.

He turned and walked out of the dojo.

"Dude, that was way outta line," Mikey remarked.

"You should apologize to him right away," Donnie added.

Raph didn't acknowledge his other two brothers and left the Lair.

He found Slash on a rooftop and joined him.

"Hey, Raph, what's up?" Slash asked.

"Leo was being bossy so I left," Raph answered.

"Did you guys get in a fight?"

"Yep. He keeps thinking he's Splinter but he's not."

"Did you say that to him?"

"Yeah, I did," Raph said defiantly.

Slash sighed. "I thought you would have outgrown this behavior by now."

Rph glared at his best friend. "I thought you would be on my side!" he snapped.

"It's not about sides, Raph," Slash said. "He's your brother and he's going through a rough time right now. This isn't easy for him and you know it. He never wanted it to be this way. Cut him some slack."

Raph said nothing but mulled over his friend's words. After some careful thought, Raph said goodbye to Slash and headed back to the Lair.

He found Leo in the dojo and approached him.

"Leo, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for what I said. I know this isn't easy for you and I'm not making it any better by being stupid and stubborn. I promise that I'll try my best never to say anything like that again."

Leo turned and faced his brother. "Apology accepted," he said. "Now, give me ten flips."

Raph did as Leo asked without complaint. After he was done, he asked, "Do you think you could help me with my form?"

Leo nodded. "It would be my pleasure to help you, Raph."

After a few more tries, Raph perfected his form and was happy that he had made up with his brother. It wouldn't be easy, but Raph was going to try his best to not get under his brother's skin and to not act like such a jerk. He owed Leo that much.
