Chapter 82: Daughter in Law

"Here, try this, April," Donnie urged. "It's very good."

April took a bite and smiled. "That's very good. Thanks, Donnie."

She stayed for a bit longer and then had to leave because she had school in the morning.

Donnie watched her go and decided to ask Splinter a very important question.

"Donatello, what is on your mind?" Splinter asked his purple-clad son.

"Well, there's a question I want to ask you and I want you to promise that you won't laugh or get mad when I ask it."

"I promise I will not laugh or get mad," Splinter declared.

"How would you feel if April was your daughter-in-law?"

"Why do you ask such a question, my son?"

"Well, she's been part of the family for a long time, and I really like her and I was just thinking about the future. Would you like her for a daughter-in-law someday?"

"That depends," Splinter replied. "Do you see yourself marrying her one day?"

Donnie blushed. "I don't know," he admitted. "I mean, I like her, but I don't want to marry her now."

"That is a wise choice, my son, for you are far too young to be thinking of such matters."

"Hai, Sensei, but I just wondered what you thought of the idea in the future. Do you approve of us being together? If you don't, I promise that I will stay away from her and remain single forever."

Splinter put a paw on his son's shoulder. "Donatello, all of my life, my dearest wish was to see my sons be happy. I never thought that any of you would find love as I felt that such a thing would be impossible. However, I see that you have found someone you care about deeply and I am not one to discourage such things if it makes you happy. But, that does not guarantee that this will last forever or that it will be a perfect relationship. I would advise you to not set your heart so highly on these things and to remember that not everything in life is perfect."

"Hai, Sensei, I'll remember that. But, if I did marry her, would you approve?"

"Yes, I would be honored to have April as a daughter-in-law. But for now, I am happy to have her as my student and feel that is the way it should be."

Donnie breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Sensei," he said. "That's taken a weight off of my mind."

"I am glad I could be of service, my son."

Donnie went to bed and felt happy. Even if things didn't work out with the two of them, it was worth it to hear Splinter say he approved of the possible marriage one day. He drifted off to sleep humming "Here Comes the Bride" and dreamed about walking down the aisle with his precious April, the only woman he would ever care about.

A/N: This drabble was pretty fun to write and I hope you enjoyed it as well. I think Donnie would have that question on his mind for future reference. Feel free to leave a review and have a shelltastic day.
