Hello Again!
I am not even going to give you a lame excuse. I am just going to apologize again and we will get on with the story.
Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson. If I did, The Blood of Olympus would be out already *ahem, ahem, Rick Riordan*.
Percy left alone that morning for Dr. Maddox's office. Annabeth had offered to come with him again, but he had politely declined, saying that he wanted to do it alone. Annabeth had said she understood.
He signed in with the blond lady at the desk and sat down to wait. Partly because he was bored and partly to take his mind off of his nerves, he looked at the paintings. He noticed the classic characteristics of the Renaissance Period. When he realized that he had actually remembered something from Art History, one of the most pointless classes he had ever taken, he smiled. This one of the strange things that happened when you hung out with Annabeth.
It was June. Classes had just ended, and with permission from his mom, and some help from Paul, he had dropped out of high school and signed up to take his GED online. He didn't want to be behind because of Hera stealing eight months of his life, and it wasn't like any of his friends went to Goode, anyway.
He had been so distracted that the nurse in dark blue scrubs had to call his name twice before he snapped out of it. He stood up and followed her not to the examining room where he and Annabeth had been before, but to the doctor's study. She told Percy to have a seat in the maroon armchair in front of the desk, and that the doctor would be with him shortly.
Percy glanced around the room. Jeez, did the doctor have ADHD? His study was absolutely bare, like Annabeth's room. Well, almost bare. Percy leaned forward and looked at the picture on the desk. Dr. Maddox and his wife. A wedding picture.
The doctor looked more solid in the picture. He was wearing a black tux with a blue tie that made his light blue eyes look dark. His bride was wearing a gorgeous white dress with dark blue earrings that Piper would have loved. They looked perfect together. The wedding had to have been recent, because Dr. Maddox didn't look any older in real life than he did in this picture- twenty five? Twenty six?
The door opened suddenly, and Percy started. The doctor smiled when he saw the picture.
"That's my wife, Esther," he said. "We got married last month."
"Congratulations," said Percy.
The butterflies started up. Wait, not butterflies- not moths, or anything like that. Owls, maybe. Or pterodactyls.
Okay, his ADHD was officially weird.
"So," the doctor said, the smile disappearing from his face.
Shoot.
"I'm not one to candy-coat things, although I can if you want me to."
Oddly enough, he seemed to be waiting for a response.
"Withholding judgment," he said, wishing that the doctor would get to the point.
The doctor fidgeted.
"Well," he said, looking at Percy uncomfortably. "You, um, well, you…"
Finally, he just blurted out, "You have cancer."
Not as bad as Rick Riordan dropping them into Tartarus and ending the book, but how do you like my cliffhanger?
I will not be updating until I get 15 reviews. I have the next four chapters written in my math notebook (which hopefully my teacher knows nothing about) so as soon as I get my reviews, I will type it up!
Review responses:
Aelita Anastasia Moonshade: The reactions will be spread across a few chapters. I will try to make longer chapters, but there is only so many words a girl can write during math class while pretending she is actually doing math.
HungerGamesgirl911: Thanks!
Gragra: It means that it is cancerous.
Olympus97: No definite schedule yet. Sorry.
Elmlea: Thanks!
Percabeth the Potterjay: Thank you. And thank you for getting on your account. It kind of bugs me when people write me reviews and I can't respond.
PercabethWithoutADoubt: Sorry!
AlphaOmega314: Thank you very much!
See ya next time! Don't forget to review!
