Natasha managed to find Steve's apartment in New York on the day he was supposed to go to that party with Helena. He should not have been too surprised since S.H.I.E.L.D. had been keeping tabs on him since he came out of the ice. Natasha would have been able to figure him out. Chances were she was the person who was keeping tabs on him.
"I used to work for the Wayne Foundation when I was looking into something in Gotham City," Natasha was explaining to him. She was not going to go into full detail on what she was exactly doing. "My contacts tell me you're the plus one of Helena Wayne's for a party tonight."
"She asked," Steve could only say to her. That had seemed to be reason enough for him. He was unsure of why anyone would have had a problem with her.
"You probably have no idea what to expect when you're there," Natasha said to him, sounding like she had assumed that he had no idea what was happening.
"When I was with the USO for the senator," Steve said to her. "I went to many of those events."
"Those may be different than anything thrown in Gotham," Natasha had said to him. "They're very old money and don't like anyone who would not follow that much."
"At least that hasn't changed," Steve said to her. He did not sound too surprised about that. He was not surprised by what she was trying to tell him.
"They all have mob ties," Natasha said to him.
"When I grew up in Brooklyn," he said, and he wondered why she did not figure that out before then. "I had neighbors with mob ties." He paused for a moment as he thought about what had happened. "It sounds like you don't want me to go with Helena."
"Her father tends to be very overprotective of her," Natasha said to him, and he started to wonder why she was trying to do what she could to dissuade him doing any of that. "And, you need the full support of the Wayne's to survive the party."
"Really," he had said to her, and he could only shake his head back at her. "We'll be fine."
"I hope so," Natasha said. "More for your sake than anything else. She would make it easier for you. She would not leave you alone there to deal with all of them."
"I hope so," Steve commented. He was starting to become irritated with all of that. "Since she asked me to escort her and all."
Natasha nodded back at him, feeling the need to really agree with him. Then, she began to wear the look of someone needing to do something important. "Have you noticed anything off about Helena?"
That was not something he expected to hear from her.
"Sorry?" He asked her. "I don't quite understand what you're asking."
"Something's off about that whole family," Natasha said to him like she had wanted to him to know something very important. "I don't know how or why, but I can tell they're off. Like they're hiding something big."
"Never noticed that," he said to her. He had no idea what she was talking about. He could not see why she was so concerned about that whole situation. "Never. Only when she talked about when she lost her mother and how that had affected her. Nothing too much more than that."
"The more time you spend with her," Natasha said to him like she had thought he would see what she was talking about at some point. "The more you'll notice that all."
Helena had been watching many different news clips of what had been happening in New York City since the Chitauri invasion. She did not really like everything she was hearing about at the time. There were groups of people who were taking advantage of that whole situation to make themselves richer.
She should not have been too surprised about that whole situation. There were always those who would try to take advantage of almost anything in any kind of a situation, and no one had really seemed to care about that at all. That had made some people feel the need to act and do something about what was happening.
The first came from Hell's Kitchen. An unknown man would be dressed in red and ruining anything the Kingpin would have tried to do in that area. His actions led him to being called the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.
Another just recently appeared out of nowhere. He wore a green hood that had completely covered his face in a dark shadow, and he preferred to use a bow and arrow to pick off anyone who made the city a terrible place to be in. He almost always seemed to kill, so it would have made anyone wonder if maybe he had some kind of a vendetta against those he was picking off.
Helena knew what had needed to be done, and she had to do something to make it happen or even possible. She needed to keep the world a better place, and it had looked like she may have been the only person who cared about all of the people who were caught in the middle of it all.
That may have been why she was so busy planning how she would get involved with it all. They needed her help, and she was going to do what she could to help them all. She needed to do something. Helena could see what Dick was telling her about being very sure of what she was going to do.
That may have been the way the Huntress had actually came to be. She was not going to sit on the side anymore, and something really needed to be done about all of that. Not then and not at that moment, and she was going to be the one to act.
