Rose' POV

I woke up, and I was freezing I looked around and I realised I was still on the roof, my clothes were wet and my body was shaking. The vent wasn't emitting much heat and I could only assume that the drop in temperature caused more students to open their dorm vents and divert less air out. Instead of sitting against the vent I was laying on my side next to it. I tried to move around but my body was numb. I felt so numb, physically and mentally. All I wanted to do was just to stay here and not move for a very long time, or until the world forgot about me but that wasn't going to happen.

I don't know how long I lay there for but I was so cold. My whole body ached and shivered. I opened my eyes but the early morning sun was bright so I shut my eyes, and I tried to cringe back into the shadows, but it didn't work. I opened my eyes slowly and moved my arm in front of my face so the light didn't hurt my eyes. I blinked a couple of times, while my eyes adjusted to the light.

After for what felt like forever, I sat up and moved around so I would get feeling back in my limbs. My body was sluggish and I felt like I was moving in slow motion. I tried to look for my phone but I didn't have it on me. Crap. This just means I had to get up, and find out the time. I looked at the around, and the sun was high in the sky, peeking through grey clouds. I heard someone talking.

"Guardian Petrov have you found her yet?" a male voice shouted from below.

"No," I heard Alberta reply, but it was a bit muffled.

"Where haven't you checked?" the male voice asked again.

"Stan, I have checked everywhere, every room, every space that I can think of." She yelled. I swear if I saw her face she would be glaring at Stan, at that I smiled. Well sort of. "I don't know where she is. What if she's got hurt or something, or if she wandered out of the wards and a Strigoi found her? I have no idea where she is! So stop acting like you care, and call Guardian Belikov to get here now, and find her since this is his fault," she shouted at him.

"Sorry Alberta I know you care for her, but she probably fine. Just sleeping somewhere, I can't call him you know that. She's the reason he left the Academy, we can't call him every time Rose does something bad or gets lost. We have to accept that he wants Tasha." Stan said.

The only thing that really caught my attention was the he knew about mine and Dimitri's relationship. But the one thing that hurt me the most was that Dimitri left because of me. My chest constricted from the pain of those words, so much so that breathing became painful. I closed my eyes willing darkness to take me. If I let it could it take this pain from me forever? No, not forever but for now just take this pain and numb me.

"Is there any out of bounds place Rose would go?" Their voices sounded closer but also farther away, like a dream.

"The roof. They haven't been checked," Alberta exclaimed.

"Okay, come on. We have no idea what part though. I think we should start with the upper campus. I doubt she would go to the lower campus where the elementary school is. That leaves seven buildings." Stan replied.

"Knowing Rose I don't think she would go to any of the school building. She hates class and only goes because she has to. I bet she may have gone to the gym or one of the dorm rooves if that is where she is hiding." Guardian Chase's voice floated through my fog.

The rest of their conversation became fuzzy as the darkness cradled me closer. I couldn't muster any strength or will to move, to fight the darkness that enveloped my mind. So I stayed still, and I eventually fell back as sleep shivering.

Alberta's POV

We all decided that the Moroi faculty dorms would hold as little interest to Rose as the class buildings. I chose to check the Novice dorm roof myself. I sent Guardian David Martin to check out the gym roof. He has known Rose since she was first dropped off. I know he was concerned about how Rose might take the news of Dimitri's transfer. I felt it was most likely that if Rose is on one of the roofs then it was ether the Novice dorms or the gym but I couldn't neglect to check them all. Chase Berghoff took the Dhampir faculty dorms while Stan Alto took the Moroi student dorms.

I got to the top of the stairs which lead to the roof, the door looked like it had been left ajar.

"Stan, Chase, David, are you at your roof yet?" I asked.

"Yes, but the door here hasn't been touched." Chase replied first. One down two to go.

"Yes the same outcome as Chase." Stan muttered.

"The door here hasn't been tampered with." David replied.

"Well I think I know where Rose is then, go to the Novice roof. I'll wait on the third floor landing for you three." I said which got a chorus of "Yes Ma'am." Within five minutes all three turned up.

"So you think Rose is up there?" David asked.

"Yes, the door looks open." I told them, they nodded. As we climbed the stairs to the roof, I got closer to the door and it was obvious that someone kicked the door open.

I pushed against the door, it moved slightly but stopped. I looked at the other three, I could see the worry in their eyes at the possibility that it was Rose herself against the door. I couldn't see what was blocking the door but it didn't feel like a body. I shook my head slightly before giving a hard push against the door and it opened slowly.

The light was shined in, and brightened up the small place in front of the door. We spread out and looked for Rose. As I walked around I saw a foot behind one of the air vents. I looked and saw Rose on the floor either unconscious or asleep. Her skin pale and cold to the touch and she had a blue tinge around her lips, but she still had a strong pulse.

"Chase, Stan, David. I found her." I said into the mouth piece and they came over and looked at Rose on the floor. "She needs to get to the infirmary." I told them. They all moved to get Rose off the floor. Chase ran to the door to move the bucket and prop the door open wider. Stan ran for the closest empty dorm to get a blanket. I called the clinic to alert them we were coming. David picked her up in his arms, and shivered from her touch.

"Jesus, she's freezing. I can feel her though my coat." He exclaimed looking at me, Stan ran back with a thick blanket and covered her but when he felt her he took off his jacket and placed it over her as well.

"Come on, let's go." My men were moving even before I got the first word out. We walked down from the roof towards the infirmary as quickly as we could without jarring Rose too much. Luckily morning class was still hours away, so we didn't get any students watching or gaping at Rose. She's been through enough.

We arrived at the infirmary and Dr. Olendzki asked what happened. "She went missing yesterday about breakfast time and I think she's been out on the roof all night, while it was raining." I told her as David set her on the gurney. She gestured us towards the door as she and several nurses began working on Rose.

"Alright men, go about your normal duties. I will stay till we know anything and I will let you know how things go." With a curt nod they dispersed. I knew that if it were up to them they would all stay. They all cared for her, even Stan who had only known her a few years before she ran away with the Princess. He was so disappointed in her when she left and because of that he has become over critical of her but I know he still cares. I sat down ready for a long wait.

"Rose should wake up soon, she's just asleep. Her temperature was well below normal temperature and if she were a Human she would be in much more serious condition. She is also lucky that the weather is warming up now. Had the storm been colder, well, like I said she is lucky. We ran a few blood tests to rule out drugs or alcohol as a factor in this incident and none were found. The rest I'm afraid falls under doctor/patient confidentiality." she told me. Before walking away she paused. "Alberta? Can I ask you something candidly, please?"

"Yes." I replied.

"Has Rose been with anybody? In a relationship I mean?" she asked.

"Not that I know of." I couldn't tell her about Dimitri and Rose for Rose's sake.

"Oh ok. That's all Alberta." She walked away from me. Hmm that was strange. I walked back to where Rose was and looked at her. She looked a little pale, and vulnerable. I remember when she was just a little girl and she landed in here with a rare case of the flu. Moroi and Dhampir don't often get sick but when they do it is usually bad, we came close to losing her to it. It was then that I first acknowledged to myself that I loved her like my own. I left her and walked back to my room.

I got in and had a hot shower which unlocked most of muscles and calmed me down, hopefully enough for what I was about to do next. Once I was changed I got my phone and looked for Dimitri's number, I found it and called. After what seemed like forever he picked up.

"Hello Guardian Petrov." His voice sounded wary.

"Hello Guardian Belikov," I said with a sneer.

"Is something wrong?" he asked.

"Hmm, let me see Dimitri. You left her without a word," was all I said. He was silent for a few minutes. And then I heard someone in the background.

"Oh, Dimka there you are." Tasha purred. Hearing her voice made my blood boil for Rose.

"Dimitri, how could you do that to Rose? Did you not care for her one bit? Did you even think about what happen when you left, how it would affect her?" I said harshly.

"What do you mean Alberta?" The asshat had the gull to sound confused.

"Dimitri don't play dumb with me, I know about you two. But you..." I couldn't even finish the sentence off, I was getting so angry. "You know what Dimitri, you don't deserve Rose one bit." I said to him. I heard him sigh.

"Dimka, who's on the phone?" Tasha asked, she sounded close.

"Don't worry Tasha, I'll be done in a minute." I heard him moving around and then the sound of a heavy door close. The sound of a dog barking in the distance told me he was now outside.

"Alberta there was nothing going on between Rose and I." I heard him say.

"Dimitri Belikov don't bullshit me. I know there was. Roses' response to me telling her you left proved it. For her sake I won't report you she's under age. But you deserve to be punished for using her like that." I told him.

"What do you mean? How did she react?" he asked.

"Hmm let's see. Rose ran away from the cafeteria without breakfast, went missing for 18 hours, and then we found her curled up on the roof. Soaking wet from the rain we had last night unconscious. And now Rose is in the infirmary recovering from hypothermia, still asleep. Does that answer your question Dimitri?" I replied. He sighed.

"I guess, I should have told her myself."

"Dimitri if I had it my way, I would have you own your way back here to apologize to her but I won't do that because it would hurt her more."

"Alberta, would you tell her I'm sorry." What the cheek!

"Sorry Dimitri, I won't do that. Anyway I have to go. Night Belikov," I told him. I heard him try to bid me goodnight but I hung up on him before he finished.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

So I know a lot is happening in chapter 2. While re-reading it I couldn't find a suitable place to cut into two chapters. And it wasn't worth splitting it at Alberta's POV.

I hope you like revamped Chapter 2. Let us know what you think so far.
