Author's Note: So this chapter is short. There's more but it's not quite finished and I wanted to get this out to you guys. There's more Carter and Lori in the next chapter. Thanks for sticking with me this far. Season premiere is tomorrow!

It only took a few hours for Kyle to track down the number to small local bank in the New York area with an identical account number. There had been no activity since it had been initially opened, it contained no money, and while they hadn't been able to get the names that belonged with the account, Elizabeth knew she would find Lori's and Toby's names on it.

She had begun to piece things together. Toby stood to make a lot of money from her husband's book, just like he did the first time, only this time much more. All the additional pestering and urging was because he needed David to publish. He needed the money, she assumed, to put into the empty account they had just discovered. And while Elizabeth wasn't sure of the arrangement Toby had made with Lori, she was sure he was going to tell her everything.

She and Kyle made their way into the large, glass paneled building. They had decided that the element of surprise was their best weapon against Toby, and an interrogation at his agency would certainly be just that. Elizabeth also knew that a questioning at the precinct would draw attention and she didn't want the FBI to catch wind of this.

"We're here to see Toby Forrester," Kyle told the receptionist flashing his badge.

The woman gave them a polite but clearly annoyed smile. "Do you have an appointment?"

"Ma'am we are detectives, we…" Kyle started but Elizabeth cut him off.

"Can you just call him and tell him that Elizabeth Wilson is here to see him," she said calmly even though inside she was a bundle of nerves.

They stood and waited as the woman proceeded to call Toby's office. She spoke in a hushed tone and Elizabeth and Kyle didn't miss the annoyed looks she shot their way. But they were the ones with smirks on their faces when she reluctantly told them Toby would see them upstairs.

Toby's door was open when they reached his office and he waved them in, still on the phone with someone else. His office looked as if it had been professionally decorated, a far cry from the small one Elizabeth remembered from before Losing Lyndon was published. As she looked around, more anger built on top of what was already there. Toby was greedy, plain and simple, and her daughter was gone because of it.

"Elizabeth, what can I do for you?" he asked, still distracted by what he had been previously doing.

"What do you know about the whereabouts of Lori Stevens?" she asked cutting to the chase.

Toby froze for a split second before looking up. They could both tell he was trying his best to keep calm and not let on, but years of detective work let them see past the façade easily.

He cleared his throat before answering "Is this because of the interview I had with her? David must have told you, which surprises me, but like I explained to him, it was over the phone. I have no idea where she is or any of her plans."

This time it was Elizabeth that froze. She had no idea what Toby was talking about. David hadn't mentioned an interview to her. She didn't know what it was about or when Toby had conducted it. As confident as she had felt coming into this was as lost as she suddenly felt.

Kyle picked up on her stumble at Toby's words and took the lead. He pulled out a small plastic evidence bag from his inner jacket pocket and tossed it onto the desk.

"My patience is beginning to run thing, do you want to try answering that question again?"

Slowly he picked up the bag, which held the scrap of paper with his handwriting. Toby could feel the wall closing in on him but all he could think to do was to continue denying any involvement. They still hadn't proved anything; they hadn't connected it to him.

"Thank you for returning this, I misplaced it and have been searching for it. But it has nothing to do with Lori Stevens, it's just numbers for…"

"For a joint bank account in New York that belongs to you and a Lauren Stephenson, more appropriately Lori Stevens," Elizabeth interrupted. She was bluffing. The court order hadn't come through yet so they didn't have the names the account belonged to, but she had to get something from him. "Aiding and embedding a fugitive is as serious offense, it carries some major jail time. Tell us what you know or I'll make sure you get the maximum sentence."

She watched Toby's face finally fall. The last bit of defiance vanished upon her threat and all his fear rose to the surface.

"It wasn't supposed to be this way," he began quietly. "Yes, Carter was supposed to end up with Lori, but not like this. Our deal was I got her new and passports for them both, along with a little cash and in return she gave me an interview that David could use in his book. It was going to make me millions and then I would wire her some additional funds and that was it.

"But Lori strayed. Carter was supposed to go willingly, but from briefly speaking to her she began to sense that wasn't going to happen. So she kidnapped her again and took off. There were supposed to be drop offs on certain dates but everything got thrown out the window. All I know is that she is still expecting money in that account soon. That bank is the only connection I still have with her."

"There has to be more," Elizabeth said.

"I promise, that's it."

She turned away from Toby and ran her hand through her hair. They had come up against a wall once again. Tears of frustration had begun to pool and she couldn't let him see. She had to be strong for Carter. Once again Kyle picked up on Elizabeth's actions and walked over to Toby's chair.

"You're coming with us. Maybe a little drive will jog something else to memory. And then once we're at the station you'll help me " he said pulling the man to his feet by the arm. Kyle gave him a little shove and soon the two were out the door, leaving Elizabeth to herself.

She glanced around the office until her eyes fell on shelf behind Toby's desk. There sat one of the first copies of Losing Lyndon. She had always thought those pages had captured the entire story of their nightmare, but now she wasn't so sure.

Her mind traveled back to what Toby had revealed to her. Everything he said made her feel like they were finally going to close in on Lori, but something didn't feel right, and she had a terrible feeling it had to do with that interview that was mentioned.

She knew it held answers and she needed to find it. Just like she needed to find her daughter.
