Fish!
"What a great spot!" Yang sighed as she slammed down her lounge chair and a large, ice filled cooler. Yang glanced out into the water and breathed deeply before letting it all out in a giant sigh of content.
Weiss glanced around as she set her own lounge chair down in the strong sun. The team had decided on going out for the weekend and relaxing, that was of course until Ruby said she wanted to go fishing. Normally, Weiss would have none of this until Yang whispered how it was a great way to get Ruby to be quiet and for them to catch a tan.
It was a done deal, really. All one had to say was 'Quiet Ruby'.
By the time Weiss left her own thoughts, her chair and her large sun umbrella was already up and ready for her, she even noticed Yang setting up Ruby's chair, though much closer to the water, and a much thicker umbrella beside it. All that was left was Blake and Ruby...but where were they?
"Yang! I can't get her out of the car!" Blake sighed as she walked up to the laughing blonde. "She won't budge and I swear she hissed at me." She then began to set up her own station as Yang walked off toward the car.
"Seriously, it was her idea to come here in the first place." Weiss sighed as she removed her swimming cover, revealing a simple bikini underneath. It was a pale shade of blue and had small frills at the neck line. "Why do you think she won't leave the car?"
Before Blake could answer, they heard a groan and a string of whines along with a laughing Yang. The two girls turned to see a flushed, sun screen covered Ruby. She had a dripping wet towel on top of her head and one draped across her neck.
Yang smiled as she led Ruby to her sit and angled the umbrella so it may cover more of the younger girl before she turned around and grabbed a large bag and tackle box and laid it beside Ruby. "Catch a monster, will ya? Then we can cook him up and eat him!"
"Okay." Ruby smiled before she began to put together an old, yellow fishing pole. "Me and Old Yeller here will catch a big one!"
Yang smiled gently before turning around and making her way to her own sit, her body covered by nothing more then a skimpy bikini so she can catch as much sun as possible. As she laid down and placed her sunglasses over her eyes, she couldn't shake the feeling of someone looking at her. Turning to her left, she saw Blake ogling her form and to her right, Weiss was staring at her like she should say something.
"Well?"
"Well, what, Snow Ball?" yang asked as she drew her sunglasses down her nose a bit to wink at Blake, who blushed deeply and hid her face in the depths of her book.
"What's with Ruby? Why wouldn't she leave the car when she was the one who wanted to go fishing in the first place?" Weiss asked as she pointed to the other girl.
"She didn't want to leave the air conditioner." Yang shrugged as she snuggled further into her chair and sighed happily. "Ruby doesn't handle heat well, you know."
Blake glanced at the other girl before turning back to Yang. "Then...why did she want to go fishing?"
"Ruby loves to fish! Even if she does get sick and horribly sunburned afterwards." Yang laughed as Ruby waved to them. "I think she likes the whole 'I'mma hunter waiting for my prey' type of feeling. I'm not so big on the sport myself."
"Of course she does." Weiss huffed as she applied a small amount of sun screen to her pale skin. "What is she doing with that stick?"
Yang turned her gaze to see her little sister driving a stick into the ground and placing her rod on it, then a small bobber on her string, making it hang low to the ground before sitting down and taking out her sketch book from the large bag Yang gave her. "Oh, that? She's just making a rest for her pole is all."
"Aren't you supposed to hold it?" Weiss asked as she looked on in wonder.
"You can if you want, but you could jiggle the line and alert fish, and this way, Ruby can draw while she waits." Yang smiled as she basked in the strong sunlight. "Yup, this trip is gonna be worry free, Ladies."
Blake and Weiss both smiled and relaxed as they released the tension that was building up in their shoulders. There was always something going with the sisters around, but to hear other wise was a nice feeling.
It didn't take long for everyone to slip into an easy, relaxed silence. Blake was reading her book, only glancing up to give Ruby praise when she had caught a fish. Weiss would just stare out into the water or ask questions to either Blake or Yang about fishing, since she knew little to nothing about it. The heiress even scolded Ruby for having her finger's in the creature's mouth, only to be told it was the safest way to hold the fish. Yang hummed for the most part, if she wasn't dozing off that is, the warm sun on her skin and the light breeze that flew by doing wonders for her.
It must have been an hour or two before Ruby stood up, pole in hand and eyes on the water, and began to move along the shore. Even if it was sweltering, (for her at least) she couldn't keep still for long. She began to hum a small tune, throwing everyone smiles as they smiled back at her, and even talked a bit about her classes.
"So, Blake..." Yang smiled as she glanced over to her girlfriend. "You excited for fish tonight?"
Blake sighed, giving Yang a look that said that she saw this coming. "Yes, actually, I am. Ruby seems to be able to catch a great deal of good looking fish."
"Aren't they covered in scales and the like? How are you going to get rid of those?" Weiss asked, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks on the other two gawked at her. "What?"
"You have to de-scale and gut them, Weiss. Do you really not know this?" Yang asked as she scratched her cheek in disbelief.
"And why should I?!" Weiss snorted as she crossed her arms and looked away, clearly embarrassed about her lack of such common knowledge. "I've always eaten the finest of foods prepared by the most famous of chefs, so why should I know any of this?"
"I caught a fish!"
"Good job, Rubes." Yang waved off her sister as she looked at the blushing heiress. "So, you never had like, a home cooked meal?"
"Not all of us have, Yang." Blake pointed out. "I must admit, eating with the three of you is the closest thing to a family meal I've had."
"That's...true for me as well. My father might have been at the table but..."
"I caught a fish!"
"Yeah, yeah, Ruby." Yang, ever the big sister, puffed out her chest and looked at both of them in the eyes. "Then when we get back, I'm cooking a super awesome meal for the both of you!"
"I caught a fish!"
"Yes, Ruby, we know!" Yang sighed as she closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead.
Blake glanced up to see why Ruby kept saying that, what she saw made her let loose a very cat-like yowl. Ruby was thigh high in the water, both hands grasping the fishing rod that appeared to be seconds away from snapping in half due to whatever was on the other end of the line. "YANG! GO SAVE YOUR SISTER!"
"Wha-?! RUBY!?" Yang gasped as she lifted her gaze (for the first time in quite a while) to see her young sibling struggling with her catch.
"I caught a fish!" Ruby replied as she was drug further into the water. "He's a big one too!"
"Ruby! That is not what you tell someone when you are being dragged out to sea by some monster fish!" Weiss shrieked. "You should be yelling for help or at least let go of the damn pole!"
Yang, finally managing to make it over to her sister and take the rod from her, glared down at the smiling red head. "You're going to give me a heart attack one of these days! I swear!"
"But you told me to catch a monster!" Ruby whined as she watched Yang pull and tug on the rod.
"You can't...use my words...against me like that!" Yang growled as she fought with the creature. "The hell is on this line?!" The blonde stomped her foot down into the ground and gave a mighty tug before s sharp crack was heard along with a yelp. Yang, who was now on her ass, was only left holding the broken form of Old Yeller and no catch. "Uhh..."
"YAAAAANG! You broke Old Yeller!" Ruby whined as she took the snapped pole away from her sister and looked it over. "There's no way to fix him either!" The young girl sighed as she held the object in her hands with care. "Guess Dad wasn't kidding when he said he was old, huh?"
Yang, sighing as she stood up and brushed off her rump, placed her strong hand on the other's shoulders and looked out toward the water. "He lived as he died."
"Oh for Goodness Sake! It's a fishing pole! I'll buy you a new one!" Weiss groaned, having watched enough of the sisters' antics for the day. "I thought this was supposed to be 'worry free'."
"Can't you see we're having a moment here?" Yang threw her a fake sniffle along with a wink, smirking even as she saw Weiss flash red with anger.
"Can I have a red pole?" Ruby asked as she turned to look her partner in the eyes. "I don't think I can handle having a yellow one...too many memories."
Weiss mumbled under her breath before waving her hand. "Sure. Yeah, whatever. Just, let me enjoy my day in peace."
After a few minutes moving Ruby's chair closer to Blake's (Yang didn't want Ruby's shade blocking her sun) everyone settled down in a comfortable silence. Blake was reading her book, Ruby was drawing, Yang was snoring, and Weiss was trying her hardest to fall asleep as well. It was indeed a lazy day for the team, one they all seemed to have been in desperate need for really, even if they had that small hiccup.
"What do you think, Blake?"
The question caught the older woman off guard, making her jerk her head in the direction of the younger with wide eyes before she could calm herself down and notice the sketch the other was presenting her with. The sketch made her smile from ear to ear, even chuckle a tad.
It was of a giant, serpentine monster bursting forth from the water toward a small red figure. It appeared to be a fight scene, but upon further inspection of the piece, one would find a small bobber hanging from the creature's mouth and the figure holding an old, yellow fishing rod.
A/N: This is a true story for me! I was like, 4 or 5 when I went on a fishing trip with my family and my Grandma when I had caught something and was nearly dragged out to sea, saying "I caught a fish". If my mom hadn't of heard me...well...anyway! My dad broke the line and caught it hung up in a tree, forever leaving us wondering what was on the other end of th line. Maybe it was a sea monster!
