Burning Together

Weiss and Blake were sitting in the small lounging room, the tv turned to a popular news station for something to listen to as they drink their tea and read. They had sent Ruby and Yang out for the weekly grocery run, hoping that maybe they could have some peace and that the sisters would cause trouble outside of their dorm room.

It was a great day for a cup of tea anyway. The sun was shining, there was a gentle breeze to calm the heat the rays brought with them, a few passing clouds covered the eyes of those outside. It was a wonderful day.

Maybe that's why those two hellions were taking so long in getting back.

"It's been a while since we sent them out." Weiss hummed as she sipped her mint tea. "I would what they decided on brining home that's causing them to be so late."

"Knowing them, it's probably a stray animal." Blake offered as she read the text of her novel. "I'm sure they're buying a collar and treats for it right now, if they decided on a name, that is."

Weiss only gave a small hum in approval, too content to further the trivial chatter of 'maybes' and 'what ifs'. Instead, she took in the scent of her mint tea, focused on the warmth the steamy cup brought to her hands and how smoothly it ran down her throat. It was all very pleasing...

...But it would be nice to have Ruby playing with her hair or curled up by her side.

She was sure Blake was thinking the same thing too, except about Yang of course. The small glances she would throw at her feet or her side was clue enough.

They should be back soon.

The tv went on and on about small robberies and dust prices, about how the weather was supposed to be great for family fun or for to just fun in the sun. It was all mindless babble for the two teens, just background noise to fill the void that the other two teens left in their absence.

'This just in! A robbery is taking place near the popular grocery store in Vale. It appears that a large group of armed thugs are attempting to mug two teenagers! We zoom in live to bring you all coverage!'

Blake and Weiss both perk up, their eyes flying to the screen to see Yang and Ruby, back to back, both with bruising and cuts on them.

Their thoughts were shattered then, much like the tea cup that Weiss had dropped onto the floor. How did this happen? Why did this happen to them/ Why weren't they just...backing down?

A man charged from the right, a metal pipe held high in the air, he was coming for Yang it looked like. Another man came, it was a flanked attack, something a gang would do, one with numbers on their side. Yang ducked from the oncoming blow of the pipe, her body turning as Ruby rolled over her back, legs high and strong as they came crashing down on the side of the attacker's neck.

Once ruby had her feet planted on the ground, Yang straightened her posture, stomped her leading foot onto the ground, gave her leverage, and uppercut the second man in the chin with enough force to send him in the sir slightly before she threw a roundhouse to send him away. They were fighting without their weapons, neither bringing them along, but it seemed as though they were holding their ground even as more men came and with greater numbers.

Yang was punching and kicking, her strength sending them backwards were as Ruby was kicking and punching, her speed keeping them safe and stunning them. But they were always back to back. They moved around greatly, turning circles and using the other to quickly turn around or to switch places, but they were always back to back.

'I can't believe this! Those two girls are fighting for their lives and winning! The tall blonde seems to pack a punch while the smaller one has one hell of a kick! Those men are scrambling to get some real hits in and they just might! Those girls are severely out numbered and they already look as though they took some heavy hits in the beginning! Can they pull it off?!'

Could they? Could Ruby and Yang really defend themselves against all those thugs? More importantly, why did it look as though they had been in that type of situation before? Why didn't they look scared? Why were they shouting out orders and calling out attackers instead of just running away? If they lost, they'd go down together and maybe...

...that was the point.

Maybe that was the point to all of this. Maybe they didn't want to leave the other, to abandon the one they loved most. Maybe they believed they could win together instead of lose alone. They would rather go down, burning and holding each others hand as they walked through Death's Gate.

But they wouldn't fall here. Not with them protecting each other. Not with Ruby taking hits meant for Yang and Yang shielding hits for Ruby. Not with them fighting as a single unit.

'It appears that the men are running away! The ones that can stand that is! Wow! I've never seen something like that! Who are these girls?! We have a camera crew going down there now to get the scoop!'

Weiss and Blake had watched as news reporters rushed to get their questions in, bombarded them with words and sounds, throwing microphones in their bruised and cut faces. Through gritting teeth the two teenagers watched as Yang kept the raving people at bay with flames while Ruby removed her overly large shirt, revealing a sweaty red muscle shirt underneath. The act was lost on people, even Weiss and Blake, until the watched the small girl begin to pick...

...their groceries...their groceries that must have been ripped from the paper bags they were in to just roll around in the street.

Everyone grew silent as the two used Ruby's shirt as a makeshift bag, watched on without a worried as the swelling eye of Yang began to close up or how Ruby began to limp and favor a leg. Watched as blood ran down their chins or from cuts on their arms.

Watched, as those two sisters held hands, smiled at each other with grins so bright and happy, and just limped away. Limped back home without so much a sound.

They would burn together one day, but they would do it with a smile on their faces and each others hand grasping their own.

A/N: I had this planned out for a bit, but I wanted to establish everyone's relationships first. I feel as though some of you may ask 'why didn't they use their aura to keep them safe?' And to answer this, they did! The injuries could have been much worse and remember, they were fighting a lot of armed thugs. If they used all their aura it keep themselves completely unharmed, they would have been far too tired to finished the fight or drag themselves home. This chapter will play a big part in another feelies one, so look out for details and enjoy! X3 til next time~!
