Here's Chapter 9 of RWBY Necrophobia. Enjoy.

It had been five days since the incident on the train. Team RWBY had spent three of those days in the hospital before returning to Beacon Academy. However, they were under the doctor's orders to keep physical activity to a minimum for the next few days while their auras patched up the last of their injuries.

Two days after being dismissed from the hospital (and wondering where Weiss was) Ruby, Blake, and Yang each received a message on their scrolls from Ozpin. After class they were to head to an airship dock and meet with Professor Goodwitch. Then they would board an airship and head to wherever Weiss was at.

They were currently trying to pass the time on the airship. Blake was reading a book she'd brought while Ruby and Yang were looking out the window. After a fair amount of time had passed Yang decided to break the silence.

"You know, I never thought I'd be so relieved to know that we're going to see the Ice Queen." Yang said.

"Yeah," Ruby said. "It's been too quiet in the dorms without her."

"Which is ironic because she's the second quietest person on the team." Yang said.

"Second quietest?" Blake asked. "Then who's the first?" Both Ruby and Yang turned to face her. "…Ok, point taken."

The girls were quiet for a moment. "I'm really worried about Weiss." Ruby said.

"Why?" Yang asked. "Goodwitch said she was fine. And we're on our way to see her."

"Uh, Yang?" Blake said, putting away her book. "That was before she left to find Weiss back in the hospital. She didn't come back after that and…" Blake hesitated, unsure about her next statement. "…is it just me, or has she been avoiding us since the hospital."

Ruby and Yang turned and looked at Blake. Yang chuckled a bit. "Nah, you're just imagining things."

"Actually Yang," Ruby said. "it does seem like she's been avoiding us for a while. And it might be just me but…do you think she doesn't want to tell us something about Weiss?"

"What makes you say that?" Yang asked.

"Well…She went to go find out what the deal was with Weiss, didn't come back, and she's looked sort of…shocked, ever since."

Yang was silent for a moment. "Can you two do me a favor?"

Blake and Ruby nodded towards Yang. "Stop freaking me out. I'm still getting over the whole train thing."

"This is freaking you out? Us talking?" Blake asked.

"Have you two heard what you've been saying?" Yang said. "You make it sound like something happened to Weiss that Goodwitch doesn't want to tell us."

"Maybe that's what's going on." Ruby said ominously. Yang and Blake both stared at her. "Nah, I'm just kidding."

A moment later (, while Yang was shaking her head 'no',) the pilot's voice was heard over the intercom. "Attention passengers, we will be arriving at our destination momentarily." Ruby, Blake, and Yang went over to the door. They probably just had a minute or two at most before they'd finally have some answers.

"So where do you think we are?" Ruby asked. She was curious as to what kind of hospital Weiss would have needed.

"Probably some sort of five star hotel-hospital combo." Yang said.

Blake chuckled a bit. "Yeah. Or maybe it's some private family clinic."

"Or it could be her house." Ruby said. Yang and Blake looked at her. "You know, maybe she went to spend some time recovering with family."

Before anyone could say anything, they all felt the airship slow to a halt. The intercom came to life. "We have reached our destination." The door slowly opened and sunlight poured in. The girls all looked out to see a rather plain building ahead of them. But what caught their attention was the sign on the building:

Vale Psychiatric Asylum

Each member of team RWBY looked at the letters on the building and then at each other, their eyes wide with shock and confusion. Eventually, Yang spoke up. "Uh, why are we at the nut house?"

"She lost her WHAT!?" Yang practically screamed. Ruby and Blake just stood there, mouths open in shock.

"Miss Xiao Long! Please keep your voice down!" Glynda, ironically, yelled.

"You just told us that Weiss has lost her mind! How do you expect me- Anyone to react calmly to that?!" Yang yelled again.

"I didn't." Glynda sighed. "That's why I've been trying to avoid having to tell you three."

"What, you didn't think we could handle it?" Yang growled.

"No," Glynda said firmly. "In my time at Beacon, I've had to deal awful news to teams about their teammates and it's never easy. This is the first time I've ever had to inform anyone that their teammate has had a complete mental breakdown, so pardon me if I was unsure how to break the news."

Yang took a deep breath. "Sorry for snapping at you…I just…"

"Believe me, I can understand."

"Uh, Professor?" Ruby spoke up, having gotten over her initial shock. "I thought Weiss just had shrapnel injuries. How did that lead to her, you know, losing her marbles?"

"It probably didn't." Glynda said, turning to face Ruby. "No one here has any idea what triggered Miss Schnee's…episode."

"How do you know that?" Blake asked, still a bit shocked at what they were discussing. "We've only been here a few minutes."

"Yes, you've only been here a few minutes. When I found out about this, I came here as soon as I could." Glynda said. "Or did you think I wouldn't try to find out what had happened to one of my students."

They were all quiet. After a moment of fidgeting, Ruby spoke up. "So…can we see her now?"

Glynda (as well as Blake and Yang) turned to face her. "Yes you may. Just wait for her psychiatrist to arrive. She'll be the one to take you to her."

"You're not coming?" Blake asked.

"No." Glynda answered. "I…saw her a few days ago. And if she's still like that…" Glynda released a heavy sigh. "Besides, I need to talk with the management about Miss Schnee's case."

Glynda walked away from the group. At the same time, a woman in a lab coat came up to the girls.

"Are you three team RWBY?" The woman asked.

"Yep! That's us!" Ruby responded cheerfully.

"I'm Doctor Altheda, Weiss's psychiatrist." She extended her hand which each of the girls shook. "If you three would follow me I'll take you to Miss Schnee."

Altheda turned around and began to walk down a hallway, team RWBY following closely. The doctor turned toward a staircase and proceeded to head downstairs. As the girls followed, they began to realize how big this place was. From outside, the asylum looked like a relatively small building, appearing to be only two or three stories. But now it was clear that the majority of the facility was belowground. The patients they saw were all wearing hospital gowns. A handful of the one they saw were alone, but most were in the company of a doctor or nurse in uniform.

As they neared the bottom of the stairwell, Ruby decided to spark up some conversation. "Sooo….Why is this place so big?"

"This Asylum is one of the largest mental health facilities on Remnant." Altheda answered. "We help people from all over the planet."

They reached the bottom of the stairwell, which led to an empty corridor.

"So Weiss is in the basement?" Yang asked.

"N-No." Altheda said, suddenly stuttering. "She's…Well, she still two floors below us."

"I thought this was the last level?" Ruby said, confused.

"No, there's still a few more floors in this facility."

"Then why don't the stairs continue on?"

The small group turned right at the end of the corridor. Seeing the end of this new stretch of hallway, the eyes of each member of team RWBY widened slightly. At the end of the hallway were two armed guards standing on either side of a barred door. Altheda pulled out a scroll and held it up to the door, while at the same time giving a small nod to the guards. The door scanned her scroll, beeped, and slowly slid open.

"Uh…" Ruby said slowly, not sure what to make of the sudden increase to security. "What's with the-"

"Above us are the patients whose mental problems are minor in comparison to the people down here." Altheda interrupted. "Down here…I suppose you could describe it as intensive care."

None of the girls spoke for a moment. Then Yang, looking dumbfounded, said "Huh?"

"This ward is for patients who are currently a risk to others and themselves." Altheda explained. "And…I know this isn't something that I should be saying but…these are the kind of people you might imagine when you hear the word 'psychopath'."

"Huh?" Yang said again, still looking dumbfounded.

"Yang are you okay?" Blake asked. "I don't see how she could have been misinterpreted."

Yang looked back at Blake. "You do remember that we're here to see Weiss, right?"

"Yes." Blake answered, unsure of where Yang was going with this.

"We're here to see Weiss," Yang repeated. "Who's had some mental issue…" Blake nodded. "And now we're being led into Intensive Care." Blake's eyes widened in realization. "Yeah, looks like you see what I was getting at."

The group moved through the hall after they passed through security. Aside from an occasional doctor, the girls didn't see anyone else as they moved to the next staircase. Upstairs it had seemed more…hopeful. Down here there was a sense of gloom that filled the air. It felt as if they'd stepped into a prison instead of a hospital.

"Here we are." Altheda said, pulling her scroll out again and holding it to the door panel.

"Hey, Doctor Altheda?" Ruby said.

"Yes?"

"You mentioned that this place was for people who might hurt themselves or others right?"

"That's correct."

"So…which category does Weiss fall into?" Ruby asked.

Altheda sighed and looked at Ruby with a look that could only be described as pity. "Both."

The door opened and the doctor stepped inside with team RWBY following suit. The room as curved with slanted glass windows, peering down into another room. And, as each of the girls went across and looked through the glass at the room below them they saw her. The Ice Queen herself, Weiss Schnee.

Weiss was in a padded room, sitting on a bed, and scribbling something on a clipboard with a pen. She was surrounded by papers filled with repeated doodles of the same drawing over and over again. The wall behind her was almost completely covered with papers, and they formed a large scale version of the various doodles that littered the floor. Her large scale picture seemed to be made up of dozens upon dozens of small drawings, containing a combination of the reoccurring image, some sort of symbols, and some words that they couldn't quite make out. As the girls shifted their gazes, they saw the other graffiti on the walls. Towards one of the corners, the walls appeared drenched in ink used to repeat a single phrase over and over again: MAKE US WHOLE. The floor by the word wall was covered with pens and markers, some of which appeared to have been broken in half for their ink.

The girls just stood in shock at their teammate below them. "How long has she been at this?"

Altheda sighed. "Since about three AM…yesterday."

Altheda walked up to the window and looked down at Weiss, looking sort of depressed. "Her current symptoms include compulsive scribbling, reciting that 'Make Us Whole' phrase, and occasional outbursts of extreme hostility." Altheda paused for a moment, mentally debating whether or not to continue. "…And she has tried to commit murder three times since being brought here, as well as a single suicide attempt during a psychotic frenzy."

"Sui-Suicide?" Blake stuttered. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. None of them could. "Wh-What the heck could have caused this?"

"We've deduced that her condition was caused by some sort of extreme trauma. Unfortunately, the specific details for what caused Miss Schnee this trauma are unknown to anyone." Altheda said. Which certainly doesn't make my job any easier. If we knew what she experienced we might be able to actually help her.

"How can you get more specific than some sort of train monster?" Yang asked, snapping the doctor out of her thoughts.

"Come again?" Altheda asked, perplexed.

"Isn't the trauma you mentioned from whatever happened on the train?" Yang answered.

"No, it isn't." Altheda stated. "Weiss has been suffering from this unique dementia for years now. However…" Altheda paused for a moment, trying to remember what had been in the report about the mission the girls had been on before Weiss's breakdown. "It's possible that she may have been exposed to familiar stimulus related to the trauma she experienced while on that train." Under her breath the girls could barely make out her saying, "I swear that girl's company is a hazard to her own health."

"So you have no idea what trauma Weiss went through that caused this?" Blake asked.

"Oh, we know what caused the trauma beyond the shadow of a doubt." Altheda said firmly.

"But I thought you just said-"

"I said we didn't know the specifics of what caused the trauma." Altheda interjected. "And believe me when I say that people have tried to find out for dozens of reasons. But trust me, you've heard of the event that led to her current condition."

"We have?" Ruby asked, clueless as to what event the doctor was describing.

"'Course you have." The doctor answered. "The anniversary of the tragedy is only a few days away."

Blake's eyes widened and her ears raised up underneath the bow. "You couldn't mean-"

"I do." Altheda said.

"Weiss Schnee is possibly the sole survivor of the Cerca Mine Incident."
